“We have studied the contents of the video, which is in clear violation of Chicago Convention, which lays out a framework for international civil aviation operations," the envoy added.&nbsp;

Verma, as per HT, also pointed out that the bilateral civil aviation agreement between both nations consists of provisions that can be invoked to tackle these threats.&nbsp;

WION also sought a response from the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs if they have taken note of Pannun's threats to blow up an AI flight on Nov 19.

Acknowledging the question asked by WION, "Is the Canadian government planning any action on this threat?" the authorities responded by saying they would be looking into the matter.&nbsp;However, as of now, specific details are still awaited.&nbsp;

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun had said, "We are asking Sikhs not to fly AI on 19th November. There will be a global blockade, and AI will not be allowed to fly anywhere across the world on 19th November. Sikhs, you do not travel by AI after the 19th. It can be life-threatening." 
 
The warning is alarming since Khalistani terrorists had bombed Air India's Boeing 747 'Kanishka' flight from Toronto to India in 1985, killing 329 passengers, including 268 Canadian citizens of Indian origin and 24 Indians.

<h2>Threat for airport closure&nbsp;</h2>

Pannun also issued a warning to the Government of India, saying, "The Indira Gandhi International Airport should remain closed on the 19th of November."

“It is the same day on which the final match of the World Terror Cup will be played. It will be shown to the world that a genocide of Sikhs happened in India and India did it. When we will liberate Punjab, the name of these airports will be Shahid Beant Singh and Shahid Satwant Singh Airport,” he added.

It is worth noting that November 19 marks the birth anniversary of the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who was assassinated during the protests against Operation Bluestar in Golden Temple in 1984.

This comes months after the horrifying incident in Canada where a tableau celebrated the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards was paraded in Brampton on June 4. 
 
The Canada government has not yet reacted or taken any action on the threat by Pannun.&nbsp;

Pannun has made such threats earlier as well. About a month ago, Pannun, who is a designated terrorist, threatened the Hindus living in Canada to leave the country and announced a fresh referendum asking if the Indian high commissioner was responsible for the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India's High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma has asked Canada for evidence that would support allegations made against India that it is involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. "Where is the evidence? Where is the conclusion of the investigation? I would go a step further and say now the investigation has already been tainted. A direction has come from someone at a high level to say India or Indian agents are behind it," the envoy added.&nbsp;

The Indian envoy's call for evidence comes in response to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations leveled against India in September where he said that agents of the Indian government are involved in Nijjar's killing.

India has already dismissed the allegations in Nijjar's killing and termed them "absurd and motivated." The country also retaliated by expelling a Canadian diplomat when Ottawa removed a top Indian diplomat - Senior Punjab cadre IPS officer Pavan Kumar Rai, the head of Indian intelligence in Canada.&nbsp;

The survey reflects growing criticism that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has exacerbated existing housing shortages through its immigration policies.&nbsp;

Speaking to Bloomberg, the survey's author Keith Neuman said, "This is the first time in our research that a significant number of Canadians are now questioning the number of immigrants being accepted."

The main thing is that people have been more concerned about Canada's capacity to absorb a lot of newcomers when things aren’t working as well as they were before.

The survey comes as Immigration Minister Marc Miller is expected to announce on Wednesday the new annual permanent resident targets. In 2022, the Trudeau administration said that it aimed to welcome record numbers of 485,000 permanent residents next year and half a million in 2025.

Earlier, Immigration Minister Miller said he’d either keep or raise those targets, not reduce them because “the need is too great.”

For 20 years, a majority of citizens rejected the opinion that Canada was accepting too many newcomers. However, this sentiment has changed due to record population growth, high cost of living and elevated shelter prices.&nbsp;

Some 47 per cent of respondents are against the idea that the country needs immigrants to increase its population, compared with 38 per cent last year, the survey showed.

In a statement, the antivirus giant said, "As there has been no evidence or due process to otherwise justify these actions, they are highly unsupported and a response to the geopolitical climate rather than a comprehensive evaluation of the integrity of Kaspersky’s products and services." It awards Can$23 billion (US$16.7 billion) in compensation to more than 300,000 children and their families, and an additional Can$20 billion for the reform of the child welfare system in indigenous communities.

"It's a historical compensation agreement and the largest in the history of Canada," Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu told reporters in Ottawa.

"It will in no way erase the harms done, but it will acknowledge the pain that many of the litigants suffered," she added.

The settlement follows several lawsuits that led to decades of litigation and negotiations, and a human rights tribunal's finding that the government had underfunded Indigenous children's services compared to those for non-Indigenous children.

Despite making up less than eight percent of children under 14, Indigenous children account for more than half of those in Canada's foster care, according to a 2016 census.

The settlement also comes on the heels of discoveries of hundreds of unmarked graves at former Indigenous residential schools set up by the government to effectively strip students of their culture and language.

From the late 19th century to the 1990s, some 150,000 indigenous children were taken from their homes and placed into one of 139 residential schools.

Thousands died, mostly from malnutrition, disease or neglect, in what a truth and reconciliation committee called "cultural genocide" in a 2015 report. Many others were physically or sexually abused.

Canada is just starting to come to terms with the nationwide trauma.

The Canadian government, on Monday (Oct 23), released a statement saying that it detected a China-linked "Spamouflage" campaign which it claimed had bots spamming the social media accounts of members of parliament and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with disinformation and propaganda.

The Spamouflage campaign, which used networks of newly created and hijacked accounts on social media to post bulk messages, happened in August and September this year, said the foreign ministry in a statement.

The campaign targeted dozens of lawmakers from across the political spectrum, the statement added.

The messages that were posted on the internet, accused the lawmakers of criminal and ethical violations and also included a claim alleging that the Hawaiian wildfires were caused by a secret U.S. military "weather weapon" and deepfake videos.

Many such comments in English and French languages were posted on the lawmakers' Facebook and X accounts, after which the government teamed up with the networks and removed the bot networks.

"This campaign could discourage and make it difficult for MPs to carry out their duties and may dissuade MPs and diaspora communities in Canada from speaking out on issues which concern them," said a foreign ministry report about the incident.

"For some time now, the Canadian side has been falsely accusing China of spreading false information against Canadian politicians, a move that is in itself a dissemination of false information, in the absence of any direct and substantive evidence," the embassy statement said, adding that Canada should do more to improve and develop bilateral relations.

The China-Canada relations hit rock bottom after Canadian police detained a Chinese telecommunications executive in late 2018, after which Beijing retaliated and arrested two Canadians on spying charges. All three have since been released.

Canada, has in the past, also levelled allegations against China for interfering in its affairs via various schemes such as illegal police stations and the targeting of lawmakers. China has strongly rebuffed all such accusations.

Canada has increased its efforts to fortify its banking sector on Thursday, by offering loan guarantees to mitigate the impending impact of the global financial crisis, which is anticipated to push the country to the brink of recession. This measure aligns with similar multibillion-dollar programs adopted in the United States and Europe, aiming to restore confidence in lending markets after numerous bank failures, primarily linked to investments in distressed U.S. mortgages.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty emphasised the government's commitment to preserving the competitiveness of Canadian financial institutions in global wholesale markets. Reuters quoted him as saying in a statement, “The government of Canada is acting today to ensure that financial institutions in this country are not put at a competitive disadvantage when raising funds in wholesale markets to lend to consumers and businesses.”

The global economic turbulence, which has rattled world markets and plummeted consumer confidence to historically low levels, is predicted to bring Canada's economy dangerously close to recession, according to the Bank of Canada. In its quarterly report, the central bank projected a 0.4 per cent contraction in the fourth quarter of this year and zero growth in the first quarter of 2009, meeting the technical criteria for a recession, which entails two consecutive quarters of economic decline.

Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney emphasised that while the economic outlook was sluggish, he refrained from characterising it as recessionary. Finance Minister Flaherty expressed optimism that a recession could still be averted.

According to Reuters, Finance Minister Flaherty reasserted his commitment to maintaining the country's 11th consecutive budget surplus for the current year. However, he cautioned that this might not be sustainable in the following years and did not rule out the possibility of providing additional economic stimulus, in addition to the previously announced tax cuts.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in news again and not for right reason. The video of him visiting a mosque and getting booed by the assembled, and very angry crowd, is doing rounds on social media. The video has gone viral on a number of social media platforms.

Toronto Sun reported that Trudeau attended a mosque in Etobicoke area of the city on Friday (October 20). The PM's office reportedly did not inform the media in advance about the visit. However, it was reported that the Canadian PMO later said that the visit was to show support for those in Muslim community who were affected by the developments in the Middle East including the Israel-Hamas war.

A video posted by several social media accounts on X (formerly Twitter) appears to show a brief moment during Trudeau's visit when some people gathered at the mosque can be heard saying "shame" and even urging a facilitator to not allow Trudeau speak at the podium.

The video also shows Trudeau addressing the crowd and thanking those gathered for giving him the opportunity to "pray alongside" them in the "difficult time".

The video also depicts those gathered outside the mosque urging Trudeau to push for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.

The Toronto Sun has also reported that Salma Zahid, the Toronto-area Liberal MP who is also the chair of the Canada-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group, has written to Trudeau demanding a call for a ceasfire. The letter also demands that Trudeau stand up for upholding of the international law. The letter has reportedly signed by 23 Liberal MPs, eight NDP MPs and two Green Party MPs.

"International law is clear that innocent civilians and all those not taking part in the fighting must on no account be attacked and must be spared and protected," says the letter.
