Earlier on September 16, Seth and Nagar, who both have resigned from the House as Samajwadi party members, were elected unopposed from Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

The by-election and its results were scheduled to be held on September 23, however, as no other candidate filed nomination, Seth and Nagar were elected unopposed.

Both the former Samajwadi Party leaders joined the BJP a month back.&nbsp;

After quitting Akhilesh Yadav's party they were elected as BJP candidates for the by-election to Rajya Sabha on September 3.

As the BJP kicked off `Sewa Saptah` on Saturday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s birthday which falls on September 17, party leaders hailed him as someone who has devoted his entire life to the serve the nation and that it was apt to celebrate his birthday in this manner.

The BJP MPs met patients at the AIIMS hospital and distributed fruits amongst them. 
Singer-turned-politician, Hans Raj Hans while talking about the `Sewa Saptah` said, "The world considers him (Prime Minister Modi) to be a great man (hain India ke, lekin puri duniyan me unko aise hi mana jaa raha hai jaise wo mahapurush hain). He devoted his entire life to serve the country. So, his birthday should be celebrated in this manner only."

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said that they were doing this to give a message that the political establishment is here to serve the country.

"We were doing it for a message that as a political establishment we are here to serve the nation and even birthdays will not be celebrated by sycophancy but through work. We are translating the Prime Minister`s message to every individual through our deeds," she said. Lekhi also said that we need to minimise the use of plastic to check pollution and single-use plastic should not be used at all.

Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari reiterated the message that his party was observing `Sewa Saptah` this week on the occasion of Prime Minister`s birthday. We have distributed fruits to patients and are promoting no use of plastic, he said.

BJP MP from West Delhi, Parvesh Verma said that party workers across the country will be going to hospitals and will undertake cleaning work to observe the `Sewa Saptah`. "Our national president has started this. We are expressing our gesture of service by distributing fruits to people...this will continue through the entire week. All our workers in the country will go to hospitals and will serve by undertaking cleaning work," he said.

Cricketer turned politician, Gautam Gambhir too said that there is nothing better than serving people.

Kicking off "Sewa Saptah" to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s birthday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and met the patients admitted here and enquired about their health situation. He also distributed fruits to the patients.Amit Shah also swept the floor of the hospital while other leaders followed suit.

"The whole government machinery will throw its weight behind the `Sewa Saptah`. Zila Panchayat, gram panchayat, municipalities, municipal corporations, Taluka panchayat wherever the people have given us power, the crores of BJP workers will be observing it through plantation drive, cleanliness drive and by serving the poor and needy," said Shah.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated his whole life working for the poor and nation," he said.

Congress has decided to build a network of Preraks which on the face looks close to the system of Pracharaks, but in practice is far from it. We will go into those details little later. Preraks are expected to create an ideological cohesiveness within Congress. The system is targeted to enlarge ideological bandwidth of the organisation workers and giving them clear direction in term of the standing of the party on major issues.

The Preraks are supposed to undergo a week’s training before they would be appointed to their divisions. Each division would comprise 4-6 districts. It is a welcome step because Congress has finally understood the need for cohesion around ideology. It is also welcome because the purpose of the Prerak is primarily not electoral but ideological. It was a big missing link in the Congress, but to say that it can replicate an RSS experience is far-fetched. Preraks are being confused with both 'Panna Prakmukhs and Pracharaks'.

The job of the Panna Pramukh is to connect with each person on a voting list of a particular booth. It has nothing to do with the core RSS ideology. It is an organisational innovation done within RSS-BJP Parivar to make small vote banks effective by ensuring that everyone comes out and vote for the party. It was first tested in Madhya Pradesh and not in Nagpur.

On the other hand, shakha is central to what we know of RSS, not Pracharak System itself. Pracharaks may play the most important roles in the organisation but shakha is the place where the spirit of the organisation lies. It is here that foundation of a Pracharak is laid. Shakhas aren’t ideological classes. Shakhas represent brotherhood. Shakhas have a ritual. A shakha can be organised anywhere. It requires an open place.

It invites people for sporting activity. The sporting activity is dual in nature. It lays the foundation for an individual within the organisation and also works as a character-building exercise. Sangh has a Guru which is Dhwaj and Shakha has a Mukhya Shishshak. The assembly of men also has a song and a prayer. It is from this system, people associated with RSS complete three years. The Pracharaks aren’t born out of a 10-day course.&nbsp;

They reflect a life-long commitment of men towards an ideology where family commitments are done away by forging a new brotherhood. Today there are barely 2500 odd full-time Pracharaks in RSS. The organisation draws its basic strength from Karyvahak. These are the people who after functioning as Pracharaks have gone back as Grihasthas.&nbsp;

They are bound to RSS by ideological commitment, daily interaction and strong outlook towards Indian society is cultural in approach.&nbsp;

RSS network is built on constant functioning organisational space which is focused on issues ranging from culture to family to environment. Pracharaks do not work for political end only. The idea is to engage with civil society to reach the desired end where RSS itself becomes part of it.&nbsp;

The attempt of the Congress is to address the immediate problem of ideological and organisational crisis whereas the idea of Shakha and Pracharak and the work associated with it very broad-based.

Preraks will come handy in terms of dissemination of basic ideas of Congress but it is not enough to create a challenge to RSS. Congress is trying to salvage a lost ground whereas RSS has been on an incorporation drive. It has been trying to reach out to those who do not share their world view.

RSS is a commitment towards refashioning of Hindu society. RSS has multiple organisations which work with civil society at the non-political level.&nbsp;

The best example of such a programme is Roti-Beti approach. It is a programme whereby RSS has worked to promote communal dining. In the case of inter-caste marriage, its public stand is to support it. I do not know what the Congress would do in this context but if it seriously wants to democratise the organisation and get fresh blood then it should have refrained from appointing Sharmistha Mukherjee and Anshul Meira Kumar on the same day as spokesperson of the Congress Party. Sharmistha is the daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee and Anshul is the son of former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. More so, Congress needs to organise training camps all across India which should not be associated with any electoral calendar. 
 
Lastly, Congress needs to rebuild the relationship with society on non-political issues if it wants to counter a behemoth like RSS. Congress will need to move beyond the electoral calendar. The present strength of BJP stems of ideological clarity and strong civil society connect which is harnessed by both Pracharaks and Karyavahas.

Prerak is nowhere close to the idea of Pracharak

Since the 1990s, two leaders who rose on the political horizon and were closely watched were Arun Jaitley and P Chidambaram. Both were sophisticated spokesmen for their respective parties, namely the BJP and the Congress. Both were lawyers and very eloquent in English, both written and spoken.

Jaitley, in a sense was a local product — studied in Delhi, active in ABVP and jailed during the Emergency. He married Sangeeta, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir finance minister, Girdhari Lal Dogra. Both his children are lawyers. He was a one-party-man throughout his life. He was trusted as a troubleshooter and had the ear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

P Chidambaram’s maternal grandfather, Annamalai Chettiar, was the founder of Annamalai University. Chidambaram got his law degree from Madras, but went to Harvard to pursue higher education in management.&nbsp;

But, the Harvard business education did not change his political orientation — Left of centre. He ran a Leftist magazine in Tamil Nadu with N Ram of The Hindu and Marxist Mythili Shivaraman — called Radical Review, mostly aligned to the CPI(M).&nbsp;

He was a junior to the legendary MK Nambiar and current Attorney General KK Venugopal. He met his wife Nalini in those days — she was also a lawyer — and married her even though she belonged to a different caste. She is the daughter of former Supreme Court judge PS Kailasam.

Chidambaram — better known as PC — was close to Rajiv Gandhi and was a minister from the late 1980s. Initially, he was a junior minister in 1986, but moved significantly up the ladder — except for 1999 to 2004 when the BJP was in power.

But along with Moopanar, PC quit the Congress and formed the Tamil Maanila Congress due to the party’s decision to align with Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK. Later, he floated his own party, but finally came back to the Congress. In that sense, he was not a one-party man.

Chidambaram was elected seven times between 1984 to 1999 and 2004 to 2014 from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu, but is not considered a mass leader. He has always been dependent on one of the Dravidian parties, and the one time he stood on his own, he was defeated by Congress candidate Sudarshan Natchiappan.

Jaitley also cannot be considered a mass leader. He lost the only election he fought from Amritsar in 2014, in spite of the “Modi Wave”. He was always the backroom boy, who knew the byzantine bylanes of Delhi and its Lutyen manipulators.

Both Jaitley and Chidambaram held finance portfolios for long — Chidambaram from 2004 to 2014 and Jaitley from 2014 to 2019.&nbsp;

PC was commerce minister in the PV Narasimha Rao cabinet. He reportedly rewrote the country’s foreign trade policy at one go during a non-stop eight-hour session in Udyog Bhavan in July 1991.&nbsp;

Many may not recall that PC resigned from the Rao cabinet during the Harshad Mehta scam since his family was presumably, a major shareholder in one of the related companies, in what came to be known as the Fairgrowth case.

Interestingly, the lawyer who argued on Chidambaram’s behalf, in this case, was another prominent lawyer-cum-politician — Arun Jaitley.

In their own words, they were good friends. In 2012, Jaitley was the then Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Chidambaram was the Home Minister of India. The Parliament was discussing the 2G scam. Jaitley led the opposition’s charge to question Chidambaram on the deal. Chidambaram initially said he was “happy” that his “friend of 22 years” was raising the issue. “I have great respect for the manner in which he raised the question,” Chidambaram said, adding, “and I sincerely hope that I would be able to respond to that and clarify all the doubts.”&nbsp;

But when Jaitley continued to grill the Congress leader, Chidambaram became emotional. “(I don’t) want to reveal private conversations (presumably between Jaitley and him) but I still maintain that it would be much simpler if somebody took a dagger and plunged it into my heart rather than question my integrity,” he said. The barb was clearly directed at Jaitley.

However, the role of Chidambaram and his wife in many dealings were not considered above board. He was legal advisor to Enron — but for its collapse, India may have had to pay a huge compensation. His wife, meanwhile, was the legal advisor to Gold Quest scheme, a Pyramid scheme of selling gold coins. She was also advising Saradha group’s chit schemes in West Bengal, which are under investigation. Later, his son Karti has been embroiled in many alleged dubious transactions.

In contrast, there are no major allegations against Jaitley, who was a favourite of the media. Once Arun Shourie jokingly called Jaitley the mass leader of a few Delhi journalists. After Jaitley’s demise, many in the media expressed their personal loss.&nbsp;

PC, though, is not popular with the media since he is perceived as arrogant and not courteous. He even used to set terms for his interviews.&nbsp;

In his younger days, PC was a chocoholic and chips lover, while Jaitley was fond of sweets and other savouries. It is said that Jaitley could remember great restaurants in many parts of the world along with their special dishes.

It will not be easy to replace the likes of Jaitley and Chidambaram as orators. It has been suggested that Jaitley was soft on PC and because of that, some probe agencies were going slow against PC.

Well, one of them is no more. The other is likely to spend long years in jail due to ED cases.

BJP national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao on Saturday said that the party is launching a "national unity" campaign 'One Nation One Constitution'&nbsp;from September in the wake of abrogation of Article 370.

"BJP is launching a national unity campaign 'One Nation One Constitution'&nbsp;from September 1 till September 30. In the month-long campaign, we will reach out to people to explain about the abrogation of Article 370 from the Indian Constitution and to explain the position, arguments and logic of the Government of India behind taking this decision," he told reporters.

"We have planned to organise a number of programmes. As part of preparation today, we have held a zonal level workshop here of southern states. The content of the programme with heads of each state will be discussed," Rao added.

The BJP leader said that the party's senior leadership will meet around 2,000 people across the country and will explain to them the idea behind scrapping provisions of Article 370.

"These 'opinion-makers'&nbsp;will further explain people in their area about the abrogation of article 370," he said.

Rao said that BJP National President Amit Shah, working president JP Nadda, Union ministers and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states will be touring different places to participate in this campaign.

Hitting out at the DMK which has been vocal against the government's decisions of abrogating article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP leader said that the move is completely legal and as per provisions of the constitution.

"Whatever the government has done was done legally and constitutionally. In Tamil Nadu, DMK opposed the abrogation of article 370 and protested against it. We are challenging DMK and we will reach to people in every corner of the state," he said.

A few days back, DMK along with several Opposition leaders had staged a protest against the revocation of Article 370. Rao also outlined that people in Jammu and Kashmir were deprived of many benefits due to the earlier regulations.

"People from Scheduled castes in J-K were deprived of reservation benefits. They should also get benefit like people in Tamil Nadu. If women of Jammu and Kashmir marry a person outside their state then they were deprived of their rights. J-K people want democracy, good governance, reservation, etc," he said.

The BJP leader also accused Congress party leaders of making statements which are being used by Pakistan in UN against India. "BJP was in Opposition for a long time. We never made comments when the country fought wars," he said.&nbsp;

The BJP won 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha polls which was only four less than the Trinamool Congress's 22.

Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal on Wednesday condoled former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's death and hailed her as a "towering leader".

"Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal condoles the sad demise of former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and conveys deep sympathy to bereaved family members and constituents. She was a towering leader and her contribution to the making of modern India will be remembered forever," a statement issued by his office read.

The statement added that upon learning of Swaraj's demise, the Governor cancelled all his programs for the day and visited Jagannath temple in Puri to pray for the departed soul.

"Governor cancelled all his engagements of the day and with First Lady visited Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri to pray for the soul of Swaraj to rest in peace," it read.

On their part, political parties aren’t exactly selective about admitting turncoats, who may have been attacking them just the other day!

The pre-election switches may be uneven, but not exactly unethical, because if the electorate decides to back rank defectors, there is nothing that anyone can say or do.&nbsp;

This process of aya Rams and gaya Rams merely reinforce — if indeed any reinforcement was needed — that political parties, given the extreme diversity and vastness of Indian society, can scarcely be ideological at all, even loosely.&nbsp;

It would, therefore, be a mistake to describe the BJP as an ideological party, not the least by its own supporters, let alone critiques on the Left-Liberal end of the spectrum. To propose therefore that the BJP is entirely controlled by the RSS, is inaccurate. This may have held true for the early Jana Sangh, but over the decades the BJP has evolved into something far bigger than just the Sangh Parivar. There is little doubt that the RSS’s inputs to the BJP’s ultimate execution of its programmes are very significant, but the party’s stalwarts like Advani believed long ago that to expand its footprints, the BJP would have to move beyond a strictly regimented existence, something that the Left in India was unable to do. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

A look at the BJP’s leadership today, particularly in states where it has come to establish a presence only recently, will help to elucidate this point. Local BJP units, many of them set up newly, have to factor in local issues and deal with new entrants into the party fold, who do not come from the traditional saffron fold. They could belong to the Congress or even a regional party. To be sure, the RSS does provide the cohesion needed, but BJP’s horizontal, nationwide expansion, is its own doing.&nbsp;

Typically of India, the situation varies from one state to the other. In West Bengal and Tripura, the BJP was a very small party until quite recently. It constituted individuals associated with the Sangh Parivar, not all of them familiar with the ways of conducting electoral politics.

Many individuals from the Trinamool Congress and Congress who joined the BJP after 2014 or even just before the 2019 election, were better equipped to fight elections than the old-timers. &nbsp;

It would be fair to say that the remarkably good performance of the BJP in these two states, is thanks in the main to these new inductees, who skillfully harnessed the larger popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for electoral gains.&nbsp;

Such political integration is, however, not without its downside. In West Bengal, after the BJP’s electoral triumph in the Lok Sabha elections, there have been tensions in the local party unit on differing perceptions of Sangh old-timers and recent entrants. &nbsp;

A look at recent defections to the BJP in Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra, presents a different side of the problem. The implications of destabilising the HD Kumara Swamy government in Bangalore is being attributed to a lack of political ethics, because the provocation was triggered by Modi’s resounding mandate.

Yet, it would be instructive to remember that the Congress — Janata Dal (S) coalition that came into existence after the Assembly election in Karnataka last year, was itself steeped in rank opportunism. Both the parties had contested the polls bitterly against each other. Under the circumstances, replacing one unprincipled combination with another may hardly be deemed unethical.&nbsp;

Having said that, the BJP would be well-advised not to lose its original hallmark — party with a difference. The 2019 victory was prompted by peoples’expectations and coming so soon after that mandate, the murky games in Karnataka, Goa and poll-bound Maharashtra could make the party lose its moral sheen.

BJP now sees politicians of all denominations lining up to join its fold

Former Congress MP Sanjay Sinh and his wife Ameeta Sinh on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of working party president JP Nadda.

They both resigned from the party on Tuesday. Sinh also resigned from the Rajya Sabha taking a dig at the party, saying Congress is still living in the past.

"There is a complete lack of communication in Congress party and the leadership is completely missing. Unfortunately, Congress is living in its past and is unaware of the future. Today, the country is with PM Modi &amp; if the country is with him, I'm with him. I will join BJP tomorrow. I have resigned from the party, as well as my membership of Rajya Sabha," he said on Tuesday.

Sanjay Singh, who had earlier served in Janata Dal, was fielded by Congress against BJP heavyweight Maneka Gandhi in the recent Lok Sabha elections. He finished in the third position garnering only about 41,000 votes.

Currently, there are 105 BJP members supported by an Independent. Both Congress and JD(S) have 100 members in the 225-member House. The majority mark stands at 104, after 17 MLAs were disqualified by Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar under the anti-defection law.

Members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have mounted protests that have paralysed production at one of India's biggest coalfields following a deadly accident last week.

The BJP workers have been staging sit-down protests and waving flags at state-run <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/four-feared-dead-after-landslide-in-state-run-coal-mine-in-odisha-238096">Coal India Ltd's mines in Odisha</a>, demanding a safety audit of all mines in the region.

Rescue officials said they have recovered the bodies of three workers who were trapped inside the mine in Odisha's Angul district after a landslide on Tuesday, and are trying to recover another body from inside the mine.

Kalandi Samal, a local BJP leader who is leading the protests, said the demonstrations will continue until authorities ensure safety measures to prevent such tragedies and ensure adequate compensation to the victims.

"We demand specific guidelines on safety audits of mines," Samal said.

Production at Odisha state's Talcher coalfields, which account for at least an eighth of Coal India's annual production, has not resumed after the accident, said Dikken Mehra, a spokesman for Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, a unit of Coal India.

State-run Coal India has a near monopoly on the coal industry in India, producing more than four-fifths of the country's coal output.

"The forced stoppage of all the mines at Talcher has resulted in a cumulative loss of 842,000 tonnes of coal production," Mehra told Reuters, adding that the company has suffered a loss of about 856.8 million rupees ($12.43 million).

Though deaths at coal mines in India have come down over time, it remains one of the most dangerous countries to be a coal miner, with one worker dying every seven days on average in state-run mines in 2018.

In addition, thousands of workers, including children, have been killed in illegal rat-hole mines that are notorious for their poor safety record, with many accidents going unreported.

"We are in talks with all the stakeholders to resolve the issues as soon as possible," Mehra said, without divulging details on the timeframe for resumption of production.

Coal India is trying to divert supplies from elsewhere to ensure coal availability at utilities and companies that normally rely on the Odisha coalfields.

Those entities include state-owned NTPC Ltd, India's biggest electricity generator, as well as the state-owned National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO).

"Production will be affected if the mines remain shut for more days," said Tapan Kumar Chand, chairman of NALCO.

Listing the government`s achievements, he said that the Centre is introducing or amending laws to combat national threats, financial fraud and corruption.

"The government has amended the NIA Bill to give it more teeth. We have also amended the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act to designate persons as a terrorist who directly or indirectly is linked to terrorism. They will come in the net even as if they create an environment which promotes terrorism."

The government has reduced 44 labour laws to just four codes which will benefit 50 crore labourers," he said.

He said the government is committed to improve the lives of women and empower them.&nbsp;

"Every member associated with any Self Help Group (SHG) will get an overdraft of Rs 5 thousand and one of a member of SHG will get a loan of Rs 1 lakh," he stated.

Calling the Modi government as a "government of motion, action and momentum", Nadda presented a report card of Modi rule 2.0 and listed a number of decisions it took to improve ease of living of the citizens. We have also amended the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act to designate persons as a terrorist who directly or indirectly is linked to terrorism. They will come in the net even as if they create an environment which promotes terrorism." The government has reduced 44 labour laws to just four codes which will benefit 50 crore labourers," he said. He said the government is committed to improve the lives of women and empower them. "Every member associated with any Self Help Group (SHG) will get an overdraft of Rs 5 thousand and one of a member of SHG will get a loan of Rs 1 lakh," he stated. Thereafter in 2012, he formed a new party "Karnataka Praja Paksha" but rejoined the BJP before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in which he got elected from Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency.

In 2018, the BJP veteran again jostled his way to the top post in the state but could not rule the state more than a week as his party failed to garner a majority.

BJP's BS Yediyurappa takes oath as Karnataka chief minister for fourth time

Lok Sabha on Friday saw an uproar when MPs demanded exemplary action against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan over his sexist remarks directed at BJP MP Rama Devi.

The remarks were later expunged as Rama Devi asked Khan to apologise.

Rama Devi said Azam Khan, being a repeat offender, should be dismissed by the Lok Sabha Speaker. "He has never respected women, we all know what he had said about Jaya Prada. He has no right to stay in the Lok Sabha, I will request the Speaker to dismiss him. Azam Khan must apologise," Rama Devi said.

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said no one should be allowed to misbehave with a woman and get away with it by just dramatizing it. "The entire nation watched yesterday what happened. This House passed the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Bill. I appeal to all to speak in one voice- You cannot misbehave with a woman and get away with it by just dramatising it," she said.

"Let us not reduce this to a problem of just women. This is a blot on all legislators including men. This is not a House where men come in and 'Kisi aurat ki aankhon mein jhanka jaye'," she added.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also condemned the remarks. "It is very encouraging to see everyone stand up and speak in once voice condemning what happened yesterday. We look towards you (LS Speaker) for exemplary action against him," she said. 
 
TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty said that all women want Speaker to take action against Azam Khan.

"Nobody can stand in the Parliament and tell a woman "look into my eyes and talk." Speaker sir, all women here are expecting something big from you on this," she said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said he will call a meeting of leaders of all parties and then take a decision on this issue.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav defended his remarks. "I don't think any unparliamentary words were used yesterday. It was the BJP MPs who have used unparliamentary words and if they are willing to take their words back, I am ready to take my words back too if I have used any," said Akhilesh.

On Thursday, Azam Khan stoked controversy in the Lok Sabha with his objectionable remarks against BJP member Rama Devi, who was presiding over the House. He later tried to downplay the remarks, saying she was like a sister to him.

Azam Khan did not apologise and said he will resign if he had said anything unparliamentary. He also staged a walkout along with his party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

NCP Mumbai chief Ahir Joshi cross over to BJP

The government is planning to conduct a competition among states to encourage water conservation, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The states that will perform better will get more funds from the Centre, he said. The plan was discussed at BJP`s parliamentary party meeting held at the Parliament on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Joshi said: "There will be a healthy competition among the states. The states that will perform well in terms of water conservation will get more funds."Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat gave a presentation to the BJP MPs on how they can contribute towards water conservation in their respective constituencies.

Joshi also said that the government will promote the competition at block-level to ensure that "every drop of water is utilised".

The government`s plan to ensure drinking water to every household was also discussed at the meeting.

Joshi said that Home Minister Amit Shah briefed MPs about the celebration of 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi`s birth anniversary and on tree plantation at booth level.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not speak at the meeting, he said.

The injured expressed satisfaction over the treatment being given at the district government hospital here.
