That is for the team, but I still feel that when you are so much used to opening the innings and when you have to wait, then you put yourself in that doubt. Rahul has scored those runs at an average of 47 with two fifties and a highest of 84, which he hit in Brisbane, helping India draw the rain-affected Test.

"It just happened so that if you know where he felt that, 'if I'm not needed right now in the series, I'm better off. Saying goodbye to the game, but obviously, we've not been to Melbourne yet, so we don't know what sort of conditions we expect there and what sort of combination, but just keeping Ash in particularly in mind, giving him that respect that this if this is what he thinks, we should allow him to think that way and we should all stand by," he added.

With India needing 275 runs to win the Gabba Test, the rain was once again the highlight reel of Day 5 before the stumps were called. Interestingly, India started the day with the bat as Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep added eight more runs before the latter was dismissed by Travis Head.
With a lead of 185 runs, Australia came out to bat as they looked to make a good start to their innings. However, Bumrah was on the money for the visitors and scalped the wickets of Usman Khawaja (8) and Marnus Labuschagne (1) which saw him break Kapil’s record for most wickets.
Kapil had 51 wickets in 11 matches while Anil Kumble bagged 49 wickets in 10 matches during their tours Down Under.

He celebrated two balls later by smashing Cummins over deep mid-wicket for a massive six before umpires took them from the field for bad light with India 252-9.

Missing pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood, who was only able to bowl one over Tuesday after picking up a match-ending calf injury, Cummins (4-80) and Mitchell Starc (3-83) toiled hard to eke out wickets.

India's Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep pulled off an unlikely 10th-wicket partnership on Tuesday to avoid the follow-on and put the third Test against Australia in Brisbane on course for a draw.

When the pair came together the tourists still needed 33 runs to make Australia bat again at the Gabba on another day marred by rain delays.

But under gloomy skies and with rain about, the two managed to see off Australia's much-vaunted pace attack to frustrate the home side on day four.

Deep scored the crucial runs with an edge to the boundary just past the outstretched hand of Nathan McSweeney off Australian captain Pat Cummins.

He celebrated two balls later by smashing Cummins over deep mid-wicket for a massive six before umpires took them from the field for bad light with India 252-9.

WTC Standings if Gabba Test ends in draw A draw will make no favours to India in the race for the WTC final, but will temporarily keep their hopes alive for a place in the summit clash. India will attain a PCT of 55.88 while Australia will be on 58.89, meaning with two matches to go India’s chances will depend on their performances in Melbourne and Sydney. India will continue to stay third in the standings while Australia will all but reach the final with four matches still to play in the cycle. If rain plays a key role, the match could end in a draw with India’s hopes taking a dent in the race for the WTC final. At the time of writing, rain again played spoilsport as India were 194/7 and still trailed by 251 runs in the first innings. India still need 51 runs to avoid follow-on while there are only a maximum of four sessions remaining in the match.
