Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar may have been banned in theatres in Pakistan but the film's pirated versions are available openly in markets in Karachi. Despite its anti-Pakistan stance, the film has found an eager audience in the country.

Dhurandhar hits Pakistani grey markets: Pirated copies selling for this unbelievable price

Indian film ‘Dhurandhar’ is making waves globally, claiming the top spot on Netflix’s film list and trending in 22 countries. Its popularity has surged in Pakistan and beyond, showcasing a classic Streisand Effect in action.

‘Dhurandhar’ Tops Netflix Global Charts, Trends in 22 Countries

<p>Dhurandhar is now a movement in India. No other film in recent times has evoked such strong and fierce loyalty and fandom the way Aditya Dhar’s film has. The love translated to box office records with Dhurandhar becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. The film’s digital release has led to rewatching of the film for many who have replaced their popcorn tub with a magnifying lens, looking for hidden meaning and coming up with wild theories.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Since hitting digital platforms, Dhurandhar has been dissected more thoroughly than a high school biology frog. Every frame is being paused, screenshotted, and debated by "experts" who have suddenly discovered the hidden symbolism in even a background tea stall in one of the frames of the film. And the theories are just wild, some that would perhaps make Dhar scratch his head in confusion and put Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code to shame.&nbsp;</p><h2>How did it all start?</h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It all started post the film’s OTT release. As eagle-eyed viewers began dissecting every frame, coming up with theories, one of which got validation from Dhar himself. A particular scene featuring Ranveer Singh’s Hamza Ali Mazhari and Danish Pandokar’s Uzair Baloch caught fans’ attention due to one tiny detail: the way they held their guns. While Hamza keeps his finger strictly off the trigger, Uzair rests his finger right on it.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Screenshots of the two holding the guns were shared online. Soon enough, Dhar took to Instagram to clarify that this was no random framing choice. He explained that Hamza is a trained operative who only engages the trigger when ready to fire, a sign of discipline. Uzair, meanwhile, reflects a lack of formal training, with his finger placement signalling a tendency to act on raw emotion rather than calculated intent.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dhar’s validation opened floodgates and the Indian audience put on their critical thinking hat and started deciphering every minute detail about the film. Everyone was now an expert in Dhurandhar and Aditya Dhar’s school of filmmaking. Some of them were so outlandish that it would lead to Dhar himself scratching his head.&nbsp;</p><p>As some fans pointed out vague theories and appreciated Dhar’s writing, ‘Peak writing by Aditya Dhar’ became a meme fest.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Also read:<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/dialogues-muted-9-minute-runtime-trimmed-netizens-slam-netflix-s-dhurandhar-edit-1769758513029"> Dialogues muted, 9-minute runtime trimmed: Netizens slam Netflix’s Dhurandhar edit</a></p><h2>‘Peak detailing by Aditya Dhar’</h2><p>While some were genuine praises for the director and his writing, it didn’t take long for the meme-masters to make it into a meme fest.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Also see: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/dhurandhar-to-baahubali-the-5-indian-films-that-rewrote-box-office-history-1767697145086">Dhurandhar to Baahubali: The 5 Indian films that rewrote box office history</a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>‘Peak writing by Aditya Dhar’ became a tongue-in-cheek mockery of over-analysing everything. Dhurandhar's OTT release has led to fans coming up with wild theories and scrutinising each moment of the film in great detail. Soon after, the trend ‘Peak detailing by Aditya Dhar’ became viral and led to a hilarious meme fest on social media.

Dhurandhar is now a movement in India. No other film in recent times has evoked such strong and fierce loyalty and fandom the way Aditya Dhar’s film has. The love translated to box office records with Dhurandhar becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. The film’s digital release has led to rewatching of the film for many who have replaced their popcorn tub with a magnifying lens, looking for hidden meaning and coming up with wild theories. Since hitting digital platforms, Dhurandhar has been dissected more thoroughly than a high school biology frog. Every frame is being paused, screenshotted, and debated by "experts" who have suddenly discovered the hidden symbolism in even a background tea stall in one of the frames of the film. And the theories are just wild, some that would perhaps make Dhar scratch his head in confusion and put Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code to shame. How did it all start? It all started post the film’s OTT release. While Hamza keeps his finger strictly off the trigger, Uzair rests his finger right on it. Screenshots of the two holding the guns were shared online. Soon enough, Dhar took to Instagram to clarify that this was no random framing choice. He explained that Hamza is a trained operative who only engages the trigger when ready to fire, a sign of discipline. Uzair, meanwhile, reflects a lack of formal training, with his finger placement signalling a tendency to act on raw emotion rather than calculated intent. Dhar’s validation opened floodgates and the Indian audience put on their critical thinking hat and started deciphering every minute detail about the film. Everyone was now an expert in Dhurandhar and Aditya Dhar’s school of filmmaking. Some of them were so outlandish that it would lead to Dhar himself scratching his head. As some fans pointed out vague theories and appreciated Dhar’s writing, ‘Peak writing by Aditya Dhar’ became a meme fest. X users have been making theories and finding significance in the most mundane moments of the film, and the results are hilarious. A user noted, “In this scene, the guy eats half an apple and throws the other half away… showing the movie has two parts…you’re watching the first one and will have to wait for the second…Peak writing by Aditya Dhar saab”

Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar is one of the most talked about movies of the year. Set for the release on Dec 5, the movie stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi.

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, is one of the most-awaited movies of the year. Ahead of its release, the film has been facing backlash, and a trend of boycott has started against it. The movie got embroiled in a legal battle after the family of Major Mohit Sharma filed a petition seeking a stay on the release. Following that, an FIR was registered against the film after the controversy surrounding Singh’s mimicry of Kantara: Chapter 1 at IFFI 2025. Amid all this, actress Yami Gautam, who is the wife of director Aditya Dhar, has penned a long note against the boycott movement that has recently gained momentum on social media. Dhurandhar controversy: Why is Yami Gautam facing social media backlash? Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar is set to release on December 5, and ahead of its release, Yami has written a lengthy note addressing how certain movies have become targets of negative coverage. She also called out the extortion of money in the name of marketing. Taking to her Instagram handle, the actress wrote that there is a so-called trend of giving money. Also read: Dhurandhar: Not one but four action directors have choreographed the sequences in Ranveer Singh’s film “There is something I’ve been wanting to express since really long, I feel today is that day & I must. This so-called trend of giving money, in the disguise of marketing a film, to ensure good ‘hype’ for a film is created, or else ‘they’ will continuously write negative things (even before the film is released), until you pay ‘them’ money feels nothing but kind of extortion. Just because this arrangement is accessible to anyone- whether to ‘hype’ a film or spread negativity against another actor/a film is a plague that is going to affect the future of our industry in a big way,” it read. The actor further added, “Unfortunately, if anyone feels- it’s harmless & let’s do it because it’s the new ‘normal’, is mistaken. This monster of a ‘trend’ is eventually going to bite everyone. If truth is exposed about a million things under the garb of who & what ‘success’ is over the past 5 years esp, unfortunately, it’s not going to be a pretty picture for many.”

Talking about the series, series director Aditya Datt said, “Bad Cop is like your original cult masala stories with a captivating storyline, a deadly villain and your hero in a double role. I have always been an avid watcher of twin dramas, so when I was working on <em>Bad Cop </em>with Rensil, Aradhana and the team at Fremantle India, we knew this element would be our hook. We have designed the action and chase sequences from scratch and have hoped to provide the audiences a larger than life viewing experience. With actors like Anurag, Gulshan, Harleen and Saurabh, we wanted to bring a sense of realism to the story. They are all actors who come from a very different school of cinema and what they bring to the table, no one else can. Audiences are in for a treat and I hope they enjoy this one.”<br />

<em>Bad Cop</em> will stream on Disney + Hotstar from June 21.&nbsp;</p>

'The Immortal Ashwatthama' first look: Vicky Kaushal collaborates with 'Uri' director again for this superhero film

<p>One of the biggest takeaways from 2019's big hit <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/vicky-kaushals-uri-equals-bahubaali-2-as-the-highest-4th-saturday-grosser-194998">'Uri: The Surgical Strike'</a> was its catchphrase 'How's the Josh?'- a line that caught the fancy of people across all age groups, fans and politicians alike. But did you know that the film's leading man, Vicky Kaushal was initially hesitant to say it in the film and wanted it to be changed?</p>

<p>The film`s director Aditya Dhar said that at one point during the shoot, he was about to change the line following a suggestion from Kaushal.<br />
Recalling the incident, Dhar said, "We first shot the line `How`s the josh?` during the Myanmar sequence. Two minutes before the camera rolled, Vicky came to me and asked me to change the line because he thought somewhere the `feel` was not coming. I tried to explain that to motivate their team, army commanders talk like that, so let`s give it a try."</p>

<p>"I still remember when Vicky said that line for the first time, 30 members of our team had goosebumps on hearing it," added the 36-year-old director during a conversation with veteran screenplay writer Robin Bhatt as part of a programme titled 'Wartalaap' by the Screenwriters Association (SWA)in Mumbai on Sunday.</p>

<p>So, what was the story behind the line?</p>

<p>"I used to visit the Army club in Delhi along with my friends when I was a little boy. There used to be a former Army officer, who would ask all of us children to stand in a queue and ask us `How`s the josh?`. The game was, one by one, all children have to reply, `High, Sir`. Whoever would say it the loudest and the best would get a chocolate. Most of the time I used to win the chocolate," Dhar recounted.</p>

<p>It was just a memory that stayed with me, shared the film director.</p>

<p>When Dhar started writing the script of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/vicky-kaushals-uri-the-surgical-strike-earns-rs-200-crore-within-4-weeks-of-its-release-196222">'Uri: The Surgical Strike'</a>, he wrote the dialogue as part of Vihaan`s character without realising that the dialogue will become such a hit.</p>

<p>As the film has received a lot of appreciation from the audience and critics alike, asked if any producer has approached him to make such a film again, Dhar said: "Yes... Bollywood functions based on what is trending. Once a rom-com is hit, people will start making dozens of rom-coms. If a war film is hit, people will start making many of that. When I made `Uri...`, war film was not a commercially successful genre of the present time.</p>

<p>"Now that everyone wants to make films on war and Indian Army, I would look for something very different and start a new trend and will find a new challenge. When I start writing a story, I think about it two, three years ahead of its time," he added.</p>

<p>Bhatt said it is important for a writer to think ahead of his or her time because it is natural that after writing the script, it takes at least a year to release the film.</p>

<p>"Your story has to hold relevance till then and also it should have recall value. After a point, only 10 stories exist, the freshness in the narrative comes from a perspective and the expression of the storyteller," explained Bhatt, an award-winning screenplay writer who penned films like 'Baazigar', 'Aashiqui', 'Omkara', 'Koi Mil Gaya' among many others.</p>
