Manchester United slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton as Old Trafford remembered the legendary Denis Law on Sunday, while Tottenham's troubles also persist after they lost 3-2 at Everton.
Nottingham Forest maintained an unlikely title challenge with a 3-2 victory over Southampton to take Nuno Espirito Santo's men level with second-placed Arsenal and within six points of Liverpool.

United, by contrast, are 24 points adrift of the leaders and focused on mere survival after Brighton stormed Old Trafford for the third consecutive season.
Ruben Amorim's men looked to have turned a corner after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Liverpool was followed by knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup earlier this month.
But after Amad Diallo's late hat-trick papered over the cracks in a 3-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Southampton in midweek, Brighton exposed the glaring holes in the foundations of Amorim's United project.
Kaoru Mitoma squared for Yankuba Minteh to open the scoring inside five minutes.
Bruno Fernandes' penalty levelled for United before the break.
Mitoma restored Brighton's lead on the hour mark before Andre Onana dropped a cross into the path of Georginio Rutter to rifle in a third.
Victory lifts Brighton up to ninth and within four points of the top four.
United remain 13th but enjoy a 10-point cushion over the bottom three.
"We can't be comfortable in thinking that this is ok, because it is not," said Fernandes.
"I'm not here to lose games and be in the position we are in at the moment."
Before kick-off, tributes were paid to one of the club's greats in Law, who passed away on Friday aged 84.
The only Scot ever to win the Ballon d'Or, Law is the third top scorer in United's history, with 237 goals in 404 appearances.
A piper played Scottish national anthem "Flower of Scotland" as the teams walked out, with United legends Alex Ferguson, Brian Kidd, Paddy Crerand and Alex Stepney on the pitch as a eulogy was read out over the tannoy.
<h2>Spurs winless in six games</h2>
Tottenham are now winless in six league games after Everton boosted their survival chances with the first victory of David Moyes' second spell in charge.
The goal-shy Toffees had failed to score in nine of their previous 11 league games but struck three times before the break.
Dominic Calvert Lewin's first goal since September opened the scoring before a brilliant individual run and finish from Iliman Ndiaye.
Archie Gray's own goal compounded Tottenham's misery.
Late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison reduced Spurs' deficit but could not avoid a 12th defeat in 22 games.
"It is a challenging situation for sure, when you are losing players the amount we are at the moment," said under-fire Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who was without 10 first-team regulars.
"It's up to me to get us out of it and I've got to be good enough to do that."
Everton pull four points clear of the bottom three and within four points of 15th-placed Tottenham.
Forest were also rampant in the first 45 minutes to cut the gap at the top and consolidate their lead in the race for a place in the Champions League next season.
Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Chris Wood netted before the break.
Southampton salvaged some pride in the second period through Jan Bednarek and Paul Onuachu, but they remain on course for an immediate return to the championship, 10 points adrift of safety.
Manchester City have slipped to eighth after results on Saturday, but the defending champions could move level with Newcastle in fourth should they win later at Ipswich.

Carlos Alcaraz stayed on course for a blockbuster Australian Open quarter-final with Novak Djokovic when marathon man Jack Draper retired during their last-16 clash on Sunday. The Spanish third seed was well on top when the Briton threw in the towel when down 7-5, 6-1 on a sweltering Rod Laver Arena.<o:p></o:p>
The 15th-seeded Draper needed five sets to win his first three Melbourne matches, rallying from behind in all of them to stay in the tournament. He had spent nearly 13 hours on court to Alcaraz's six and it finally caught up with him.<o:p></o:p>

"It's not the way I wanted to win. But obviously I'm happy to play another quarter-final here in Australia," said Alcaraz, who is bidding to win the title for the first time. "But a little bit sad, you know, for Jack. He's really a nice person, he doesn't deserve to get injured."<o:p></o:p>
Draper pulled out of the United Cup in the lead-up to Melbourne with a hip injury.<o:p></o:p>
Alcaraz is into the last eight at Melbourne Park for the second successive year.<o:p></o:p>
He has never gone further -- beaten in 2024 by Alexander Zverev -- and will have to beat either Djokovic or Czech Jiri Lehecka, who play later, to do so.<o:p></o:p>
The Australian Open is the only major missing from four-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz's collection.<o:p></o:p>
Should he go all the way, he will become the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam -- winning all four majors -- in the Open Era and the youngest to win in Australia since Djokovic in 2008.<o:p></o:p>
"I'm happy with the level I'm playing. On the court and off the court I'm feeling really comfortable here," he said. "Physically, I'm feeling great. So coming into the second week of a Grand Slam it is important to feel well physically because right now the matches are even tougher.<o:p></o:p>
"But I am ready."<o:p></o:p>
Alcaraz was beaten by Draper when they last met, on the grass of Queen's Club in 2024, but with the hot sun pounding down in Melbourne his booming groundstrokes caused instant problems for the Briton.<o:p></o:p>
The opening set went on serve until the Spaniard seized an opportunity in the sixth game to break on the back of two net winners.<o:p></o:p>
Draper kept plugging away and his persistence paid off with a break to haul back to 5-4 before Alcaraz broke once more to take control again.<o:p></o:p>
The Briton slumped 3-0 behind in the second set and was clearly struggling, finally pulling the pin when he lost the set.

The opening set went on serve until the Spaniard seized an opportunity in the sixth game to break on the back of two net winners. Draper kept plugging away and his persistence paid off with a break to haul back to 5-4 before Alcaraz broke once more to take control again. The Briton slumped 3-0 behind in the second set and was clearly struggling, finally pulling the pin when he lost the set. Kerala Blasters FC restricted NorthEast United FC to a goalless draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 tonight. The home team showed exceptional defensive prowess to hold the Highlanders at bay and secure a point despite playing with 10 men for over 60 minutes of the game.
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Kerala- NorthEast share spoil</h2>
Jithin MS, who scored his opening goal of the season in the last match, came close to getting the Highlanders the lead as he got to the end of a delivery by Mohammed Bemammer following a corner. His shot lacked direction though and ended high and wide on the left as it was hit from distance in the 12th minute.
Three minutes later, Kerala Blasters FC star Noah Sadaoui attempted a similar effort, again from outside of the 18-yard box. He aimed for the left corner of the net, but it ended off-target. Soon afterward, the Kochi-based team created an offensive move but Noah didn&rsquo;t time his run appropriately, getting flagged offside.
The game took a decisive turn in the 30th minute with Aibanbha Dohling of the Kerala Blasters FC getting sent off for violent conduct. This gave the Highlanders, the league&rsquo;s joint-highest scoring team (31), a fantastic chance to optimise their one-man advantage.
At the brink of the half-time whistle, Alaaeddine Ajaraie picked up a pass from Macarton Nickson outside the box and unleashed a left-footed shot that was blocked by the Kerala Blasters FC backline. Bekey Oram ensured that the Highlanders stayed in the quest for the goal, finding Ajaraie inside the 18-yard area on the left side, and the striker took a firm shot that required Kerala Blasters FC goalkeeper Sachin Suresh to save it in the top left corner.
Noah ensured a formidable start for the home team in the second half, teaming up with Milos Drincic to test the NorthEast United FC defence. His vicious effort from the right foot was saved at the centre of the goal by Gurmeet Singh.
NorthEast United FC responded with Guillermo Fern&aacute;ndez and Buanthanglun Samte joining hands near the box for the latter to find a pocket of space on the left and hit a shot with his left foot in the 56th minute that missed the target in the right.

Twelve minutes later, Nestor Albiach set up a pass for Ajaraie outside the box, and the forward didn&rsquo;t build up the move, instead exploring the space inside the Kerala Blasters FC box to make a shot that landed high above the net.
Fern&aacute;ndez had a defining opportunity land to him in the 82nd minute, having the chance to get the ball from inside the box with his right feet, but an organised Kerala Blasters FC defence thwarted that danger collectively, earning a hard-fought point from the draw.

ISL 2024-25: 10-men Kerala Blasters snatch point after goalless draw against NorthEast United

Darwin Nunez struck twice in the final minutes as Liverpool got their Premier League title charge back on track with a dramatic 2-0 win against Brentford on Saturday.
Arne Slot's side were in danger of enduring a third successive league draw after wasting a host of chances at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Of all the candidates to end Liverpool's wobble, Uruguay striker Nunez would have been low down the list given his struggles over the last two seasons.
But he rode to Liverpool's rescue with a stoppage-time brace that lifted the Reds' seven points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
The Gunners can close the gap back to four points with a win against Aston Villa in Saturday's late game.
But Liverpool will hold a game in hand on Arsenal and have the destiny of the title still firmly in their grasp thanks to the much-maligned Nunez.
Slot had admitted he couldn't find a way to get the best out of the former Benfica star earlier this week.
The 25-year-old had scored just four goals in 26 games in all competitions prior to his unexpected double in west London.
Slot will gratefully take Nunez's contribution as Liverpool's first win in three league games kept them on course for a first title since 2020.
Since the turn of the year, Liverpool had only won one game in four in all competitions, beating minnows Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round.
They had drawn their previous two league games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, while also losing 1-0 at Tottenham in the League Cup semi-final first leg, making this victory essential to steady their nerves.
Brentford kicked off with the joint-best home record in the Premier League, an impressive statistic they underlined by scoring twice in the closing stages to draw 2-2 with Manchester City on Tuesday.
<h2>Nunez late show</h2>
Thomas Frank's side should have had Liverpool on the ropes when Mikkel Damsgaard failed to convert Mads Roerslev's ball across the six-yard box.
Brentford threatened again as Bryan Mbeumo forced Alisson Becker into action with a drive from the edge of the area.
Luis Diaz glanced wide from Ibrahima Konate's pass before Ryan Gravenberch's long-range blast was tipped away by Mark Flekken.
Konate shot wastefully wide and Brentford captain Christian Norgaard headed over as chances kept coming at both ends.
Liverpool had been denied three points at Forest by Matz Sels' superb saves and they were being frustrated by another in-form 'keeper, with Flekken saving well from Dominik Szoboszlai's low shot.
Szoboszlai was inches away from breaking the deadlock when the Liverpool midfielder slammed a 25-yard strike against the bar.
Cody Gakpo should have done better than poke narrowly wide from Salah's pass after Liverpool carved open the Brentford rearguard.
Early in the second half, Salah's shot deflected off Keane Lewis-Potter and was heading towards goal until Nathan Collins made a last-ditch clearance off the line.
Slot sent on Andrew Robertson and Nunez, who immediately headed wide from the Scot's cross to the visible dismay of his manager.
Alisson saved twice in quick succession from Mbeumo's free-kick and the Brentford forward's follow-up effort.

Liverpool's shot tally had reached 34 without a goal and they were nearly punished for their profligacy when Mbeumo's header was saved by Alisson.
As the seconds ticked away, Liverpool grew more desperate and Trent Alexander-Arnold's 30-yard rocket did nothing to ease their angst as it fizzed just wide.
But their pressure was finally rewarded in stoppage-time as Alexander-Arnold's cross picked out Nunez and he kept his cool to slot home from close range.
Slot danced a jubilant jig on the touchline and the Dutchman was celebrating again moments later as Harvey Elliott's pass found Nunez inside the area and he lashed a blistering finish past Flekken.

Slot danced a jubilant jig on the touchline and the Dutchman was celebrating again moments later as Harvey Elliott's pass found Nunez inside the area and he lashed a blistering finish past Flekken. Premier League: Liverpool strike late as Darwin Nunez sinks Brentford

India&rsquo;s challenge at the India Open 2025 came to an end as the men&rsquo;s doubles combination of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down against World No. 2 Nur Izzuddin and Goh Sze Fei of Malaysia in the semifinals on Saturday (Jan 18) at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall here on Saturday.
The Indian combination, making a comeback of sorts on the BWF circuit following an injury to Satwik, made a strong start against the Malaysian pair but struggled to counter the game plan of their opponents at the back end of both games and lost 21-18, 21-14 in 37 minutes.
<h2 class="MsoNormal">Satwik-Chirag bow out</h2>
The third seeds will now face Malaysia Open champions Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of Korea, who defeated fifth seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia 22-20, 21-19. The KD Jadhav Indoor Hall was packed to the brim in anticipation of another strong showing by Satwik and Chirag.
The world no. 9 combination, who had reached the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 last week, started strong, and it looked like they were in control of the opening game as they led 15-12. But Goh and Izzuddin began pressing the home favourites at the net and errors started to creep in.
Goh and Izzuddin clinched seven straight points from there on, and a smash error from Satwik handed the Malaysians the first game.
In the second game, the Indians lost eight of the first 10 points before a series of five consecutive points brought them back in the match. However, Goh and Izzuddin were quick in attacking the Indians&rsquo; serve and scored quite a few quick points to put them under pressure and ensured that the 2022 Asian Games gold medallists could not make a comeback by relying on their big smashes.
Earlier, in the women&rsquo;s singles semi-final, Pornpawee Chocuwong came back from the brink to beat Japan&rsquo;s Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan 11-21, 24-22, 21-19, while top seed An Se Young was made to work hard for her 21-19, 21-16.

Chochuwong looked down and out while trailing 14-19 in the second game, having lost the opener rather tamely. But she kept pushing herself to retrieve every attacking stroke Miyazaki played to close the gap within a point. She then saved three match points, forcing the Japanese to commit errors at the end of long rallies to force a decider.
In the decider, the Thailand shuttler was the more composed competitor among the two. She was patient on crucial points, and that made the ultimate difference in a match that lasted an hour and 13 minutes.

Noman Ali and Sajid Khan guided Pakistan to a strong position against the West Indies after another spin-dominated second day's play in the opening Test in Multan on Saturday.
<h2>Noman Ali leads the charge</h2>
The spin duo shared nine wickets between them to dismiss the West Indies for 137 in reply to the home team's 230 all out.
By the close, Pakistan stretched their lead to 202 by scoring 109-3 in their second innings, with Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel batting on nine and two respectively when bad light ended play 25 minutes early.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican (2-17) dismissed Muhammad Hurraira for 29 after an opening stand of 67 and Babar Azam for a second failure, trapped leg-before for five.
Skipper Shan Masood looked solid for his 52, hitting two sixes and two fours, before Warrican ran him out after attempting a quick single.
"The weather is foggy so if we have continuous play and take our lead over 300 then we can win this Test," said Sajid.
"It's great to bowl with Noman, who always guides me."
Warrican wants the target to be under 250.
"Obviously we don't want to get the lead go over 250 because it's a spin-favouring surface," said Warrican.&nbsp;
"We need a good comeback in batting the second time around on this pitch."

The dry and grassless Multan pitch has already produced 23 wickets in six sessions -- 19 on day two -- even though two-and-a-half hours were lost on day one and another 30 minutes on Saturday because of poor visibility.
Noman grabbed 5-39 for his seventh five-wicket haul in Tests while Sajid finished with 4-65 to dismiss the West Indies after lunch in a first innings that lasted just 25.2 overs.
Noman and Sajid, who shared 39 of the 40 wickets in the last two Tests against England in Pakistan's 2-1 series win last year, were once again unplayable.
Sajid opened the bowling and removed Mikyle Louis (one), Keacy Carty (0), Kraigg Brathwaite (11) and Kavem Hodge (four) in his first three overs.
Noman then further jolted the tourists with another four wickets to leave them tottering on 66-8.
The tailenders showed more resistance, with number 10 batsman Warrican unbeaten on 31 and Gudakesh Motie adding 19.
Jayden Seales was the last wicket to fall for 22.
Seales hit three sixes before holing out off spinner Abrar Ahmed.
Earlier, Warrican took 3-69 as Pakistan lost their last six wickets for 43 runs after resuming at 143-4.
Shakeel top-scored for Pakistan with 84 off 157 deliveries, including six boundaries, while keeper Mohammad Rizwan added 71.
Shakeel added an invaluable 141 for the fifth wicket with Rizwan, lifting Pakistan from a precarious 46-4 on day one.

PAK vs WI: Noman and Sajid help Pakistan dominate West Indies in spin battle

In a recent interview with WION, an ILT20 commentator Saba Karim discussed the league's growing influence in international cricket. The commentator highlighted how the ILT20 is attracting top-tier players and increasing its global fanbase.

Mia Blichfeldt, Danish badminton player has criticised the conditions at the ongoing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/indian-open">Indian Open</a> 2025 Super 750 tournament being played at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Blichfeldt has expressed her discontent with the playing conditions and the increasing pollution levels in the national capital.
The 27-year-old player has called the situation 'unfair' for all the players participating in the tournament. The world no. 23 had picked up a stomach infection but managed to fight through the second round before losing 21-13 16-21 8-21 to China's Wang Zhi Yi.
Mia took to her Instagram account where she said, "It's two years in a row that I get sick during the Indian Open. It's really hard to accept that many weeks of work and preparing gets wasted becuase of bad conditions. It's not fair to anyone that we have to train and play in smog, birds shitting on the court and dirt everywhere. These conditions are too unhealthy and unacceptable."

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/boxing">Boxing</a>, often called the 'sweet science', is a mix of skill, power, and drama that has entertained fans around the world for centuries. But the sport has long been shadowed by one major issue: Controversial decisions.
Unlike sports like football or cricket, which use technology to support clear rules, boxing relies on human judgment. Judges assess fighters based on criteria like effective aggression, clean punches, and defense. However, these guidelines are often applied inconsistently, leading to unpredictable results.
For example, the 2012 Olympics was riddled with controversial scoring, causing outrage among fans and calls for reform. More recently, during the 2023 Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois fight, a low-blow ruling divided opinions. Such incidents highlight the sport&rsquo;s vulnerability to subjective decision-making, which can tarnish its credibility and image.

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers hope for addressing boxing&rsquo;s fairness issues. By analyzing complex data, AI could support judges and improve decision-making. It wouldn&rsquo;t replace human judgment but enhance it.
For example, sensors and AI could track punch accuracy, power, and placement, providing factual data to back up judges&rsquo; scores. Instant replays, powered by AI, could be used for critical moments like disputed knockdowns or fouls without disrupting the fight&rsquo;s flow.&nbsp;

Critics worry that technology might ruin boxing&rsquo;s traditional feel. But smart integration can protect the sport&rsquo;s soul while ensuring fairness.
Boxing, a billion-dollar industry, depends on its credibility to attract sponsors, broadcasters, and fans. Unfair decisions hurt fighters, anger fans, and risk the sport&rsquo;s reputation. Embracing AI could protect its traditions while appealing to modern audiences.
With careful implementation, AI can help boxing honour its fighters and keep fans engaged. The goal isn&rsquo;t to take away the human element but to give judges better tools for fair decisions. In this way, boxing can evolve while preserving its legacy.

Denis Law, Manchester United and Scotland great, dies at 84

A relentless Iga Swiatek stayed on course for a maiden Australian Open title as she powered into the second week with a statement victory over Emma Raducanu on Saturday. In battle of former US Open champions, Swiatek easily had the measure of Raducanu as she romped to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph, rattling off 11 consecutive games from 1-1 in a brutal display.<o:p></o:p>
Five-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek hit 24 winners to Raducanu's nine on Rod Laver Arena. <o:p></o:p>
"I played a few shots that I thought after them, this is what I practise for to play these kind of shots, and that's why I really enjoyed today's match," said Swiatek, who was at times untouchable, committing just 12 unforced errors. "I felt really confident, so at the end I could push for even more. <o:p></o:p>
"Having converted all these break points as well was important, so I'm really happy with today's performance."<o:p></o:p>

It was the first time that Raducanu, the 2021 Flushing Meadows winner, had reached the third round in Melbourne.<o:p></o:p>
Swiatek, the 2022 champion in New York, is looking to improve on a patchy record at the Australian Open, where she has only reached one semi-final in 2022.<o:p></o:p>
She is on course to do that in some style, having dropped just 10 games in her three matches so far.<o:p></o:p>
She put the 22-year-old Raducanu under severe pressure from the start, forcing the Briton to save break points in her first service game. <o:p></o:p>
It was to be the only game Raducanu won as the 23-year-old Pole took control, her depth, power and precision enabling her to reel off five straight games to take the set in 31 minutes.<o:p></o:p>
Raducanu was feeling the heat and dropped her serve again at the start of the second. <o:p></o:p>
At 0-5 30-0 on the Swiatek serve Raducanu had a brief glimmer of avoiding a dreaded 6-0 "bagel".<o:p></o:p>
But Swiatek snuffed out the chance, levelled at 30-30 with a forehand winner and an unreturned serve completed the demolition job in just 1hr 10min.&nbsp; <o:p></o:p>
Ranked 61, Raducanu's best Slam effort since winning the US Open has been a lone fourth-round at Wimbledon.<o:p></o:p>
She pulled out of her Australian Open warm-up event in Auckland with a back niggle and needed an injury timeout for a tight leg muscle in the previous round.<o:p></o:p>

Sports, Tennis: Iga Swiatek, the 2022 champion in New York, is looking to improve on a patchy record at the Australian Open, where she has only reached one semi-final in 2022.

A relentless Iga Swiatek stayed on course for a maiden Australian Open title as she powered into the second week with a statement victory over Emma Raducanu on Saturday. In battle of former US Open champions, Swiatek easily had the measure of Raducanu as she romped to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph, rattling off 11 consecutive games from 1-1 in a brutal display. Five-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek hit 24 winners to Raducanu's nine on Rod Laver Arena. "I played a few shots that I thought after them, this is what I practise for to play these kind of shots, and that's why I really enjoyed today's match," said Swiatek, who was at times untouchable, committing just 12 unforced errors. "I felt really confident, so at the end I could push for even more. "Having converted all these break points as well was important, so I'm really happy with today's performance." Swiatek, the 2022 champion in New York, is looking to improve on a patchy record at the Australian Open, where she has only reached one semi-final in 2022. She is on course to do that in some style, having dropped just 10 games in her three matches so far. She put the 22-year-old Raducanu under severe pressure from the start, forcing the Briton to save break points in her first service game. It was to be the only game Raducanu won as the 23-year-old Pole took control, her depth, power and precision enabling her to reel off five straight games to take the set in 31 minutes. Raducanu was feeling the heat and dropped her serve again at the start of the second. At 0-5 30-0 on the Swiatek serve Raducanu had a brief glimmer of avoiding a dreaded 6-0 "bagel". But Swiatek snuffed out the chance, levelled at 30-30 with a forehand winner and an unreturned serve completed the demolition job in just 1hr 10min. Ranked 61, Raducanu's best Slam effort since winning the US Open has been a lone fourth-round at Wimbledon. She pulled out of her Australian Open warm-up event in Auckland with a back niggle and needed an injury timeout for a tight leg muscle in the previous round. Relentless Swiatek squashes Raducanu to reach Australian Open last 16

Jamshedpur FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season on Friday (Jan 17) night. The league leaders took the lead in the first half courtesy of a goal from Subhasish Bose whereas Jamshedpur FC clawed their way into the game when Stephen Eze found the equaliser at the hour mark.
<h2 class="MsoNormal">Jamshedpur-Mohun Bagan match ends in draw</h2>
With this draw, the Men of Steel propelled to the second spot, eight points behind (28) the Mariners (36) with a game in hand, having 15 players as compared to the 16 of the Kolkata-based team.
The game started with a great rhythm, with both teams trying to dominate each other in wide areas. However, the first 15 minutes hardly saw any glaring chances fall for either team. However, the Mariners had two glorious opportunities to take the lead in the 17th minute in quick succession.
Firstly, it was Jamie Maclaren, who latched onto a long ball in the penalty area and just as he was to hit the target, Stephen Eze cleared it away. Moments later, Jason Cummings found Liston with an exquisite through ball, but before the winger could square it past Albino Gomes in goal, Eze cleared the lines once again.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant&rsquo;s persistence paid off in the 25th minute when Tom Aldred rose the highest to head the ball from Cummings&rsquo; corner. Subhashis pounced upon the Aldred header and calmly flicked it past Albino to hand the lead to the visitors.
Cummings almost doubled the lead for the visitors in the 36th minute when Maclaren found him with a through ball. The Australian was in behind the Jamshedpur FC backline but Eze blocked his eventual effort. Later in the half, Alberto Rodriguez with a dink pass unleashed Liston through on goal. But once again the winger squandered a golden opportunity to double the lead. Right before halftime, Maclaren combined with Cummings and the former&rsquo;s effort was saved by Albino with relative ease.
After the first half, Khalid Jamil decided to change his playing style as he made wholesale changes. Sourav Das, Imran Khan and Lazar Cirkovic made way for Javier Siverio, Mobashir Rahman and Seiminlen Doungel for the hosts as they opted for a more direct style of football.
The game took a drastic turn in the 60th minute when Eze drove past multiple Mohun Bagan Super Giant defenders with a piercing run. The Nigerian entered the penalty area and worked his way past three opposition defenders before pulling the trigger and finding the bottom right corner of the net past Vishal Kaith.

The equaliser poured life into the home crowd and brought momentum to their gameplay. In retaliation, Jose Molina turned to Greg Stewart to replace Cummings. After a spell of lull, Rei Tachikawa replaced Jordan Murray to add more teeth in midfield for the hosts. Meanwhile, Dimitri Petratos came on for Maclaren for the final push for the Mariners.
The Mariners almost found the winner when Petratos squared it to Liston in space but his subsequent effort was tipped over by Albino. Late in the game, Rodriguez had a great opportunity to head it home from a set-piece but his effort was a whisker away from target. Both teams threw bodies forward but were unable to find the decisive goal. Eventually, they had to settle for a draw.

Belgium's football association on Friday announced the sacking of national team coach Domenico Tedesco after disappointing performances at Euro 2024 and in the Nations League.
<h2>Tedesco sacked</h2>
"Unfortunately, the Red Devils did not perform as we hoped at Euro 2024, just as they did in the next Nations League campaign," the football association (RBFA) said on their website.
Tedesco was appointed in February 2023 to replace Roberto Martinez and rebuild the squad as the country's "golden generation" departed.
Tedesco's team qualified for Euro 2024 but were eliminated in the last 16 by France, who then beat Belgium twice more in the Nations League as the Red Devils finished third in their group.
They face a relegation play-off against Ukraine in March.
"I was always proud to be the coach of the Red Devils, we achieved great things together," Tedesco said.
"This team is still at the beginning of its development and will cause a sensation in the coming years. I wish the players, the great employees of the federation and the fans all the best from the bottom of my heart."
The dismissal had been expected for several weeks, but the negotiations took time because of the complicated financial situation of the RBFA.
The 39-year-old Tedesco was under contract until 2026 at an estimated annual salary of 1.7 million euros ($1.75 million).
Five members of Tedesco's support staff and coaching team were also fired.
"Domenico made an excellent start as national coach and proved that there are still great things possible, even after the send-off of the previous generation," said RBFA CEO Peter Willems.
"He has integrated a number of young players into the team, and his successor can build on this. We would like to thank him and his team for the pleasant cooperation, their hard work and dedication, and wish them all the best for the future."

The RBFA did not announce a timetable for appointing a successor.&nbsp;
Belgian media have reported that the RBFA technical director Vincent Mannaert had approached Sergio Conceicao, who instead accepted the AC Milan job, as well as former Barcelona great Xavi and sacked Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, who were not interested.
Local news reports named Frenchmen Rudi Garcia and Thierry Henry and Dutchman Mark van Bommel as leading candidates.

Belgium sack national team coach Domenico Tedesco after poor Euro 2024, Nations League campaign

However, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?title=PV+Sindhu" rel="dofollow noopener" target="_blank">PV Sindhu</a> and Kiran George were knocked out of the India Open 2025 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall here on Friday (Jan 17).
<h2 class="MsoNormal">Satwik-Chirag win</h2>
Satwik and Chirag were at their dominant best in their quarter-final encounter against South Korea&rsquo;s Yong Jin and Kang Min Hyuk, winning 21-10, 21-17. However, it was a heartbreak for the other Indians in the fray with Sindhu going down 21-9, 19-21, 21-17 against fourth seed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in women&rsquo;s singles while Weng Hong Yang of China defeated Kiran 21-13, 21-19 in the men&rsquo;s singles quarterfinals.
The loss against Tunjung notwithstanding, there were a lot of positives to take home for Sindhu. The 29-year-old, who had been struggling with injuries since the Paris Olympics, struggled with her movement in the opening game but took the fight to her opponent once she found her range.
Trailing 3-9 in the second game, Sindhu began pushing Tunjung to the back of the court thereby nullifying the sharpness of Indonesia&rsquo;s quick slice drops and keeping the shuttle long enough in play to force an error from her opponent.
She caught up with Tunjung at 9-9 and though both the players stayed neck-and-neck thereafter, Sindhu managed to take the match into a decider by forcing the fourth seed into taking more risks to try and win points.

The former champion continued with the same strategy in the decider and it looked like she could script an upset with both players locked at 17-17. Some brilliant stroke play from Tunjung and a wrong judgment from Sindhu ended up deciding the fate of the match which lasted an hour and two minutes.
In the men&rsquo;s singles quarterfinals, Kiran fought hard against Weng and even saved a match point in the second game but an error on a forehand drive ended his hopes of advancing any further in the competition.

Rory McIlroy will need a spectacular weekend to win a third straight Dubai Desert Classic title after slipping nine shots behind halfway leader Ewen Ferguson on Friday, while Jon Rahm missed the cut.
Four-time champion McIlroy mixed three birdies with two bogeys to card a one-under-par second round of 71 and sit on three-under for the tournament.
The world number three is playing his first event since winning the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai last November.
"A little frustrated. But I thought the conditions were a little tricky," he said.
"Get out there early tomorrow and try to post a score and get myself up the leaderboard and give myself a chance for Sunday."
McIlroy, who started the tournament with a two-under 70, bounced back from an opening bogey with a birdie on the second hole but missed several chances.
A five-foot birdie putt slid by on the short par-four 17th, but McIlroy made a birdie on the final green.
"The greens will continue to get a little bit firmer, and will put such a premium on putting it in the fairway and hitting a lot of greens," added McIlroy.
Scotsman Ferguson snatched a one-shot lead over Daniel Hillier with an eye-catching finish.
He followed a birdie on the penultimate hole with a stunning approach shot on the 18th to set up a closing eagle.
Ferguson leads on 12-under overall after signing for a seven-under 65.
World number 223 Hillier also made a brilliant eagle on the par-five last hole, finishing off a bogey-free 65.
The New Zealander will head into the weekend chasing just his second title on the European Tour, after his 2023 British Masters victory.

<h2>Rahm struggles</h2>
Rahm opened with a three-under first round but paid for a terrible start to his second day to miss out on the weekend.
The two-time major champion, starting on the back nine, made double-bogeys on both the 12th and 18th holes and eventually carded a five-over-par 77 to finish two shots below the cut line.
"Not the way you want to start the year, but if there's any positive side of it, it is the beginning of the year," said LIV star Rahm, who is hoping to play well enough on the European Tour to automatically qualify for Luke Donald's Ryder Cup team later this year.
"There's a lot of golf and a lot of months to look forward to.
"I have a pretty clear idea of what I need to work on."
Viktor Hovland, who showed signs of form late last year after a difficult season, also missed the cut after adding a 73 to his disappointing 75 on Thursday.
His 2023 European Ryder Cup-winning teammates Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre remain in the chasing pack, on four-under and five-under overall respectively.
Tyrrell Hatton, who plays alongside Rahm in LIV Golf, is only four strokes off the top of the leaderboard in a tie for third place after firing 65.

I’m really pleased with my game. There is always something to work on, but this is definitely my best match of the tournament,” said Djokovic in the post-game interview.
