New Zealand could be handed a major blow in their preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025 as they sweat over the fitness of star bowler Lockie Ferguson. As revealed on Friday (Feb 7) evening, Ferguson could be out of the Champions Trophy having sustained a hamstring injury during an ILT20 match on Thursday. Stefanos Tsitsipas became the latest victim of an extraordinary run by Mattia Bellucci at the Rotterdam Open Friday, as the Italian qualifier marched into the semi-finals with a 6-4, 6-2 upset.
World number 12 Tsitsipas never got to grips with Bellucci's left-handed serve and combination of flat backhands and heavy top-spin forehands, interspersed with well-disguised drop shots.
<h2>Mattia Bellucci continues dream run</h2>
"At the beginning of the week, I would have never expected this result," said Bellucci, 23, who had never before reached the semi-final of an ATP 500 event.
"I was really enjoying myself on court. Today I think I played even better, technically speaking, against a great opponent but I was in a mindset to fight for every point," said the Italian.
Bellucci, ranked 92 in the world, had already demonstrated his giant-killing prowess by downing second seed Daniil Medvedev in the previous round.
And he proved a real handful for Tsitsipas in the first set, retrieving impressively and surprising the Greek player with heavily sliced drop shots.
After breaking Tsitsipas at 4-4, Bellucci made no mistake serving out the set, saving a break point on the way and sealing the game as his opponent pushed a backhand long.
The sixth-seeded Tsitsipas's struggles continued early in the second set, as Bellucci broke serve and raced into a 3-1 lead, again drawing his opponent out with a clever drop shot.
Tsitsipas was the architect of his own downfall in his next service game, giving up a second break of serve with a double-fault on break point.
He saved a match point at 5-1 down, as he had done in the previous round against local hero Tallon Griekspoor.

But there was no miracle escape this time as Bellucci served out the match to love, taking the acclaim of an appreciative crowd.
Awaiting Bellucci in the semi-final is Australia's Alex de Minaur, last year's runner-up, who wasted no time in swatting aside German lucky loser Daniel Altmaier 6-1, 6-4.
In the top half of the draw, world number three Carlos Alcaraz faces compatriot Pedro Martinez while Russia's Andrey Rublev takes on Hubert Hurkacz from Poland.

With few days to go for the start of the Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan on Friday (Feb 7) inaugurated the renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Champions Trophy 2025: Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif opens renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore

Pakistan sports has seen a major backlash in the recent days as the nation prepares for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, its first major cricket tournament since 2008. However, it is the football federation which has made the rounds instead of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). On Friday (Feb 7), Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) was suspended by the FIFA (world football&rsquo;s governing body) in a major low for the nation. <o:p></o:p>
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Here&rsquo;s why PFF is suspended by FIFA<o:p></o:p></h2>
This is not the first time Pakistan Football Federation has been suspended as they faced embarrassment in 2017 and 2021. The latest ban comes after PFF&rsquo;s failure to adopt a revision of its constitution, which would have ensured fair and democratic elections. The ban means Pakistan won&rsquo;t able to compete in any international tournament organised by FIFA until they are registered again by the football body. <o:p></o:p>
"The PFF has been suspended with immediate effect due to its failure to adopt a revision of the PFF Constitution that would ensure truly fair and democratic elections and thereby fulfil its obligations as mandated by FIFA as part of the ongoing normalisation process of PFF."<o:p></o:p>
"The suspension will only be lifted subject to the PFF Congress approving the version of the PFF Constitution presented by FIFA and the AFC," read the statement from FIFA.<o:p></o:p>
According to an interview given to Reuters by PFF Normalisation Committee chairman Haroon Malik, not all newly-elected members of the body have agreed to FIFA's proposals.<o:p></o:p>

Celtic fans will be able to attend the second leg of their Champions League play-off round tie away to Bayern Munich after being handed a UEFA reprieve.
The Scottish champions feared supporters would be banned after a green smoke bomb was thrown onto the pitch from visiting fans during Celtic's 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa last month.
<h2>Celtic avoid fan ban</h2>
Celtic had received a suspended one-match ban on selling tickets for travelling fans after a pyrotechnic display in their 7-1 Champions League thrashing by Borussia Dortmund in September.
However, they have escaped with a fine of 10,000 euros ($10,400, &pound;8,340) for the lighting of fireworks and throwing of objects.
"As we had said previously, Celtic made every effort to ensure that our fans could attend this match, and we are pleased that UEFA has considered our detailed submission," Celtic said in a statement.
"We can also confirm that the original suspended sentence remains in place, as a result of the previous use of pyrotechnics, most recently at the match against Borussia Dortmund, by a small minority of supporters.

"Again we must make it very clear that pyrotechnics have absolutely no place at our matches and should further incidents occur, then clearly, once again, there is an extremely high risk of our supporters not being permitted access to future matches."

India star batter Virat Kohli could feature in the second ODI against England on Sunday (Feb 9) after he missed the opening contest of the three-match series on Friday. The claim comes after Shubman Gill opened up on the former India captain&rsquo;s fitness issue in his post-match comments as the hosts beat England by four wickets in Nagpur. Gill played a crucial 87-run knock in the opening ODI which helped India propel to a 1-0 lead in the series. <o:p></o:p>
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Virat fit for Cuttack ODI, claims Gill<o:p></o:p></h2>
"When he woke up in the morning, he had some swelling in his knee. He was fine till yesterday's practice session. There's nothing to worry. He will definitely be fit for the next game," said Gill in the post-match interview. <o:p></o:p>
The Indian vice-captain&rsquo;s 87-run knock was one of the feature innings as they beat England comprehensively. However, the win came in the absence of Virat who had a knee issue heading into the match. His absence meant Yashasvi Jaiswal got the nod as the opener while Gill dropped into the middle-order. <o:p></o:p>
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">India make light work of England</h2>
Asked to chase 249 runs to win, the Indian team did not have the best start to their innings as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma (2) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (15) in the opening six overs. However, the Indian team then came good with the bat Gill and Iyer started India&rsquo;s recovery. The pair put together 84 runs for the third wicket before Iyer was scalped by Jacob Bethell on 59 in the 16th over.

Gill was then joined by Axar Patel as they stitched a partnership of 108 runs as India established an iron grip over the contest. Playing at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Root made his return to the 50-over format after November 2023 before Jadeja got the better of him for the fourth time. Root was out of favour in the ODI format in 2023 and is likely to announce his retirement after the Champions Trophy 2025. Root fails on ODI return Having won the toss, England's decision to bat first proved to be right as Philip Salt (43 off 26) and Ben Duckett (32 off 29) stitched a partnership of 75 runs for the opening wicket. However, it was a runout that opened the doors for India’s comeback as Salt was dismissed on the fifth ball of the ninth over. The dismissal was followed by the wickets of Duckett and Harry Brook (0) as England went from 75/0 to 77/3. Root and skipper Jos Buttler (52 off 67) then stitched a partnership of 34 runs before the former England skipper was dismissed by Jadeja. Batting on 19 Root was dismissed leg before by the veteran Indian all-rounder as he put a spanner in the work. The English side has enjoyed a good last few years in the limited-overs format, having won the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the ODI World Cup in 2019. The Champions Trophy remains the missing piece in the puzzle, with their best run coming in 2004 and 2013, when they were runners-up. England will start their Champions Trophy campaign against arch-rivals Australia on Feb 22 in Lahore.

Australia received a major blow preparing for the Champions Trophy 2025 after captain Pat Cummins and star bowler Josh Hazlewood got ruled out on Thursday (Feb 6). MotoGP&nbsp;world champion <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/jorge-martin">Jorge Martin</a> has been ruled out of the remaining pre-season testing in Malaysia and will undergo surgery in Europe after crashing badly on the opening day at the Sepang track.
The Spaniard broke his hand and foot after being thrown off his Aprilia machine at turn two of the Sepang circuit. He had emerged unscathed from a crash earlier in the day.
He now faces a race against time to be fit for the start of his title defence in the season-opening Thailand Grand Prix on March 2.

"He has undergone a CT scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), both of which were negative for any injuries."&nbsp;
"He will stay in hospital overnight and tomorrow he will fly back to Europe to undergo surgery on his right hand and left foot."
The 27-year-old, who made the move to Aprilia after winning the 2024 championship for Pramac Ducati, had completed 13 laps when he lost control of his new bike and was flipped high into the air.
The Spaniard landed hard on his left foot before his head banged onto the asphalt.&nbsp;
Massimo Rivola, Principal of Aprilia Racing, said he had "no explanation" for the crash and that Martin had made "no mistake".
"It was a bad crash with apparently no reason from his side and from the bike," he said.&nbsp;
"He is a world champion, but he is also a MotoGP rider. He's not an amateur. And the bike had no problems."
Trackhouse team rider Raul Fernandez of Spain was also ruled out of the remaining two days with hand and foot fractures.
Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, meanwhile, topped the timesheets on the opening day of testing with a time of 1min 57.555sec.
"I was feeling quite good. We were focused on many things to try and make a good lap time and I think I did a good job," he said.
The 25-year-old Yamaha rider was fastest for most parts of Wednesday's session and claimed the fastest time on his 50th lap.
Six-time Spanish MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez came in second fastest with a time of 1:57.606 on his new Ducati machine, while his brother Alex Marquez was third after clocking 1:57.738.
