India's Neeraj Chopra wins gold at Paavo Nurmi Games with throw of 85.97m ahead of Paris Olympics
India's javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has opened up on the adductor niggle that has been troubling him in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics where he will be defending his title. Neeraj said he would wait till after the Olympics to consult different doctors and look into the nagging issue.
Neeraj made the comment after he won gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games with a throw of 85.97 metres.In his six throws, the Indian bagged throws of 83.62m and 83.45m in his first two attempts before amassing his best of 85.97 on the third attempt. The next three throws saw Neeraj end up with a foul on the fifth attempt while the rest two ended up a little short of 83m.
“The weather was good today, a little bit cold with the wind. But I am happy with my adductor now because I could do all six throws," said Neeraj post the event.
“Every year I have some problems with my adductor, maybe after the Olympics I am going to talk to different doctors," he added.
The star Indian athlete also expressed the desire to compete in more competitions this season.
“Initially I wanted to compete more this season, but it was not possible due to my niggles."

Neeraj's nagging adductorissue
Notably, Neeraj was forced to pull out of Ostrava's Golden Spike meet last month after feeling'something' in his adductor muscle during training.
The 26-year-old said he didn't want to push his bodyso close to the Olympics and decided to skip the meet.
“I have had problems with it in the past and pushing it at this stage can lead to injury. Just to clarify, I am not injured but I don't want to take any risk during the Olympic year so had to take this decision. Once I feel it's fully recovered, I will get back to competitions,” said Neeraj.
Neeraj rose to fame at the Tokyo 2020 Games by winning thegold medal in the men's javelin event (India's first Olympic gold medal in athletics) with an impressive 87.58-metre throw.
Following his Tokyo blitz, Neeraj became the world champion and even registered a personal best (PB) distance of 89.94 metres at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022.
Paris Olympics 2024 will start on July 26 and Neeraj will be entering as one of the favourites to win the gold once again.
