The Maldives has seen a major change in the last few months. On November 17 Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took oath as new President in which India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the only head of state as a guest.&nbsp;The New President will be visiting India in December.&nbsp;Meanwhile, in an exclusive conversation with WION's Principal Diplomatic Correspondent Siddhant Sibal, the new Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid spoke at length about the expectation of the new Maldives government from India, Maldives-China Free Trade agreement, Indo-Pacific concept among other things.

WION: How do you characterise the current India-Maldives ties?

Abdulla Shahid: Thank you very much. It's a pleasure to be here in Delhi. My first visit after taking office. I had the opportunity to receive PM Modi at the airport upon his arrival at the stadium in which President Solih took the oath of office. The warmth with which people of Maldives received PM Modi on his arrival characterises the new era in India Maldives ties. The Modi-Solih meet was characterised by warmth, closeness and sincerity. I was in the meeting and I see nothing but success in years to come

WION: What kind of assistance would you expect from India?

Abdulla Shahid: As you know President Yameen's dictatorship had taken the country to the brink of bankruptcy. We need generous assistance from the Indian government to overcome the difficulties we are facing. We need budgetary assistance. We also need to deliver on the campaign promises we have made. The pledges of development need to be delivered. In order to do that.. we need general assistance.

WION: The India Maldives Joint statement called for security and peace in the Indian ocean. What are the threats the region faces?

Abdulla Shahid: Our region is key to maritime throughout the world. All the ships that travel between the African continent and northeast Pacific go through our waters. We have a responsibility. We have seen increased piracy in the Indian ocean. We have seen increased tension within the Indian ocean, be it the rivalry between neighbouring countries or rivalry between Indian ocean interested countries, we need to simmer it down. We need to make the Indian Ocean a zone of less tension and free access to all.

WION: How do you see the Indo-pacific concept and the quad?

Abdulla Shahid: We are fully involved in the Indo-Pacific concept of free access. In order for intl trade to increase, we need openness. We can't, in this day and age, draw lines or sea lanes.&nbsp;

WION: Your take on the Quad and statements made after the meet in Singapore on the country?

Abdulla Shahid: &nbsp;Statements shows they are concerned about the dictatorship that was in the Maldives.

WION: Indians faced a lot of visa restrictions. Will those be relaxed now?

Abdulla Shahid: When I meet my counterpart I will disc ease of visa restrictions for Maldivian nationals and Indian nationals. I think both are countries must come to an agreement on visa easing. Hoping to sign a new agreement during President Solih's visit in December

WION: So president Solih is coming to India in December?

Abdulla Shahid: The new president will bring a message of goodwill of returning India-Maldives relation to normalcy. We recognise the long-standing generosity of the Indian government that will be the message President Solih will bring.

WION: You defence minister has already told WION that Indian helicopters are needed. How important are they to your country?

Abdulla Shahid: These helicopters have been used for humanitarian missions. Total of 164 patients has been airlifted from remote islands to Male. We as a seafaring nation, we lose people in the sea. In having these machines on site, will help us launch missions more easily.

WION: What are the key foreign policy decisions you will be taking?

Abdulla Shahid: The foreign policy created by Yameen is a total disaster. The Maldives has been sidelined. The Maldives lost its credibility internationally, nobody listens to what the Maldives says. We as the chairman of the alliance of the small island in the last 2 years have not done anything. We have played into the hands of the people who want climate change debate to be sidelined. Two years as the chair of the alliance we became disreputed. We will be vocal again on climate change. We will be vocal on environment issues internationally. Last time we wanted to contest for human rights commission in Geneva under Yameen, we didn't get it due to disastrous track record. We will go back and establish our self as the lead country on human rights issue within the UN. We are joining the Commonwealth. The Maldives left commonwealth since it asked Yameen government to get back in the main folds of democracy and human rights. Commonwealth is an association or group of countries to promote human rights, democracy and good governance.

Parliament will endorse the cabinet decision and president will write to the commonwealth to rejoin it. Through it, our young people will get a lot of opportunities.

WION: No discussion is over without mentioning China. How will be the ties between New govt and China?

Abdulla Shahid: &nbsp;President Yameen tried to play India against China and China against India. He wanted to be a puppet master. India and China are much larger in capacity to see through what president Yameen was trying to do. President Yameen's failure came through because of the manner he dealt with relations. We will not try to be a puppet master. We know better. We should have good relations with both.&nbsp;

I know that both India and China will respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Maldives. None of these countries would be interested in making the Maldives part of theirs. They will be interested in sitting down with us as equals and discuss issues. I see that is the direction we have to go. We have to keep in mind that our closest neighbour is India. The country which has delivered assistance to us. India will also in the future help us not because of geographical proximity only but because of a long-lasting friendship. We had a water crisis in Male, and Indian navy helped us overcome the difficulty. Because of the proximity and nature of the relationship between two countries, India has the tendency to immediately help us without a second thought. It's the nature of the relationship. These are eg of past. In future, I see nothing but good will.&nbsp;

WION: Will you relook at Maldives China FTA?

Abdulla Shahid: FTA was rushed through the parliament. I was in the parliament that time and I was not informed of the session. Many of my collogues did not know seating was taking place until it was over. Parliament or the parliamentary committee took less than 15 minutes also to review the 100-page document. It is unreasonable to believe that such a document can be reviewed in such little time. Now I am the foreign minister and I'm supposed to comment on the document which I don't think is fair. So I will get my officials to go through the document and advice the government. I will get the new attorney general to look at it. It is fair that we go in an agreement of that nature of that importance after knowing what it has.

WION: How much the Maldives owes to China?

Abdulla Shahid: &nbsp;Finance minister was in parliament on Thursday and was asked the same question. He answered that figures don't tally. He said he was getting different figures from different departments. As soon as the FM is in a position to tell, I'll be in a better position to start comparing how much we owe to China and other countries. All we know up to now is that Yameen government has been most irresponsible in borrowing and taking us to the edge of the debt burden

WION: Your take on China's one belt and one road initiative?

Abdulla Shahid: Integration of economies of all countries of the region has to be thought about. The interest of the not only one country should be given priority. We will be looking into the integration of India, Sri Lanka and other countries of the region.&nbsp;

WION: One country in the region continues to indulge in cross-border terror and SAARC has been defunct due to this?

Abdulla Shahid: &nbsp;Terror is an issue that we need to address. We need to address at a regional level and international level. So the more we shy away from addressing it, the more, we damage the core values we sort to promote. We need to address the issue at the regional level.&nbsp;

After many temple visits, Rahul Gandhi visits Ajmer dargah

BJP president Amit Shah in an exclusive interview with WION Editor-in-chief Sudhir Chaudhary defended the Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik and said there is no reason to doubt the intentions of the honourable governor. Accusing the Opposition of lying over the Rafale deal, Shah challenged the Congress president Rahul Gandhi to specify his source of information on the issue.

Shah also discussed CBI row, 2019 elections and other issues. Edited excerpts.&nbsp; &nbsp;

WION: Amid the campaign for the assembly elections, a new issue has emerged. What do you have to say about it? Do you think that dissolving the J&amp;K assembly was the only option?

Amit Shah: I don't think it's a problem. It's a solution. We do not have any reason to doubt the intentions of the honourable governor. Those crying foul also wanted the same. He has taken a political stand and cannot take it back.

WION: You have given an opportunity to the opposition parties in the state to come together. It's never been seen before that the three opposition parties come together to stake claim to form a govt.

Amit Shah: These three parties made claims of horse trading in the last week. These parties can tell you more about the same. I am only picking up from reports in the media. The administration and governor will know the details. From what I am gathering, preparations were on for the last three days. Based on that if someone stakes a claim which is not backed by any official letter either from the Congress or the NC- which to are presented before the media and not before the governor- I don't think that the people of the nation can be fooled by such things.

WION: On the issue of the Rafale deal, the entire opposition, including Rahul Gandhi, has made a huge deal out of it. Some say that it will prove to be what BOFORS became for Rajiv Gandhi. So is this issue being created only for the media, or does it have some truth?

Amit Shah: The Opposition does not have a solid issue hence they have created a fake issue out of this. They are lying. Not an extra penny has been spent and we have put our case in front of the Supreme Court. If the Congress has so much information what's stopping them from going to Supreme Court. Can the Congress President specify his source of information on Rafale? Are political parties the source of this information? Is this how one leads public life? He probably doesn't know that the papers given to him aren't accurate.

WION: What was the govt wary of when it came to the CBI that Alok Verma was asked to leave in the middle of the night?

Amit Shah: Two senior CBI officials accused each other of corruption. Who will investigate this now? Naturally a neutral agency. The CVC is probing the matter and till then officials in question have been sent on leave.

WION: What do you have to say to Rahul Gandhi's allegation that Alok Verma could have filed an FIR in the Rafale case and that is why the govt panicked?

Amit Shah: I don't know who scripts these allegations that Rahul Gandhi makes. If they tell me I would train that person. When Alok Verma was sent on a leave, two PILs were already filed in the top court. It had issued a notice after which a plea could not be registered. Somebody must tell this to Rahul Gandhi.

WION: There is a strong feeling that BJP may do something to create a wave in its favour. It could be the issue of Ram Temple or a war with Pakistan or any other issue which might evoke strong sentiments in favour of BJP. How true is that?

Amit Shah: See, we don't need a war to win an election. There is already a wave in our favour. We have given gas connections to over 5.5 crore poor households, 8 crore toilets have been built for the poor, 2 crore poor families have been given houses, 2 crore houses have been electrified. We are providing subsidised crops to farmers. The centre and state together are providing medical facilities worth Rs 5 lakh to every household. Can you believe the amount of work that this govt has done? A household had to bear smoke while cooking, that has been replaced with gas cylinders. A sixteen-year-old girl who had to relieve herself in the open now has a toilet. Can you imagine the boost in her confidence? A pregnant lady is vaccinated to protect her child and herself from diseases. There were 19000 villages where electricity poles hadn't reached even after 70 years of independence and now those villages are lit with power. We have made education, health and employment accessible. We plan to electrify all homes by 2022. All homes have a bank account. Our borders are more secure. We brought in one rank one pension. The growth rate has increased. Our economy has improved. Inflation has come down, so has the deficit. Foreign reserves are at a peak. The atmosphere of fear and insecurity is no longer there. No concrete allegations have been made against our govt. Do you think that the people of the nation do not know this? We ruled 6 states, now we rule 19. This is because of the faith of the people in our govt. &nbsp;Under the leadership of Modiji, we have worked to boost India's image globally.

WION: What if you come to power in 2019? People think that if you come to power again, there will be bolder decisions. There could be new leaders. Have you thought of an overhaul?

Amit Shah: We have only thought of coming back to power with more seats than we currently have. Our manifesto for the general elections will have all the details of our plans. There is a lot of discussions pending on the issue without which we must not make any claims.

Under the leadership of Modiji, we have worked to boost India's image globally.

Opposition has created a 'fake issue' out of Rafale deal: BJP president Amit Shah to WION

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said Monday that "it's in our best interest to heed" the advice given in our constitution".&nbsp;

He added that India's constitution is the "voice of marginalised and prudence of majority" and that "it's wisdom continues to guide us in moments of crisis".&nbsp;

Gogoi was speaking in New Delhi. Today is Constitution Day.

Gogoi added that if we do not heed the advice given in the constitution, "our hubris will result in sharp descent into chaos".&nbsp;

Gogoi said that when it was brought into force, the constitution was criticised as "far too large and rigid". But that time has weakened that criticism and "it's a matter of pride that our constitution has lived with great vigour in last 7 decades.&nbsp;

This is worst vote bank politics country has seen: Sitaram Yechury on Ram temple row

Ten years ago on this day, Mumbai came to a standstill after 10 heavily-armed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists carried out coordinated attacks at six locations across the city.

The string of incidents, commonly referred to as 26/11 attacks, spanned across four days, during which 166 people were killed and over 300 injured. Recalling the dreadful night, a survivor of the ghastly attack, Mohamed Taufiq Sheikh, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure justice is served to the kin of the deceased.

He also appealed for action against Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, who is known as the mastermind of the attack.

Sheikh, who is popularly known as Chhotu the Chaiwalla, told ANI: "The mastermind of that attack Hafiz Saeed is roaming free in Pakistan. No action has been taken against him. I want to appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to further tighten the security. I was told that I will be given a job, but nothing has been done about it as yet. There are going to be various events today, but all those are of no use, it will be better if some monetary help can be given to the kin of the deceased."

In Nariman House business and residential complex, one of the locations that was targeted by terrorists, a Rabbi, his wife, and six others, including five Israeli citizens, were killed after being held hostage.

The lone survivor of this attack was the two-year-old child of the Rabbi couple, Moshe, who later went on to become the face of innocent victims of ruthless terrorism.

In July 2017, Prime Minister Modi had met Moshe during his visit to Israel. Later, in January 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also met the 26/11 survivor in Mumbai during his visit to India.

Addressing the media in Mumbai on Sunday, Rabbi Israel Kozlovsky said Nariman House has been revamped to bring back the positivity that the building stood for prior to the attacks.

"All the five floors shall be used for a specific purpose so that all the visitors who come to see the building could get a positive message about how light of positivity and hope triumphs over the negative darkness of terror and trauma. The fear of death which had mounted over all those shot dead and other hostages that night is something which only they could narrate. The world as not yet come to peace and terrorism via different means is still looming over all of us. The building should not be left with a simple bad memory but instead we should get over it and so for this cause we have decided to dedicate the upper floors of the building so that all those visitors who come to see the spot get inspired by virtues of humanity and they become harbinger of hope," he noted.

Elaborating further upon the structure and interiors of the building, he added: "The upper floors shall be used to show people how Jewish way of life. All the visitors shall see about the life of deceased Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his family before they were massacred. The entire theme is white on all household items and the prominent displays will be Holtzberg's son Moshe's room, kitchen, bedroom, living room, apartment, entrance, hallway library, and common room."

After the attack, it was established that the 10 terrorists had sailed to Mumbai from Pakistan's port city, Karachi. Their voyage to Mumbai involved hijacking fishing dingy and killing four of the five men crew, leaving one occupant to ferry them to Mumbai coast.

In these gruesome attacks, nine terrorists were killed while Ajmal Amir Kasab was nabbed by security forces and sent to Yerwada Central Jail in Pune. In August 2012, Kasab was awarded a death sentence, and hanged till death three months later.

Appeal for action against 26/11 mastermind: Survivor recalls terror of Mumbai attacks

Describing the Mumbai terror attack as a "barbarity", the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday called upon Pakistan and other nations to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against those responsible for the atrocity, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates.

On the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terror attack, the state department's Rewards for Justice (RFJ) programme offered <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/2611-attacks-us-announces-5-million-reward-for-information-on-perpetrators-179416">a new reward for up to $5 million</a> for information leading to the arrest or conviction of any individual who was involved in planning or facilitating the 2008 Mumbai attack.

"It is an affront to the families of the victims that, after ten years, those who planned the Mumbai attack have still not been convicted for their involvement," Pompeo said in a statement on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack.

"We call upon all countries, particularly Pakistan, to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against the terrorists responsible for this atrocity, including Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and its affiliates," Pompeo said.

Some 166 people, including Americans, were killed in the attack carried out by 10 LeT terrorists. Nine of the attackers were killed by the police while lone survivor Ajmal Kasab was captured and hanged after he was handed down death sentence by an Indian court.

The US, Pompeo said, is committed to seeing that those responsible for the attack face justice.&nbsp;

The RFJ programme is offering a new reward for up to USD 5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of any individual who was involved in planning or facilitating the 2008 Mumbai attack.

"On behalf of the Government of the United States of America and all Americans, I express my solidarity with the people of India and the city of Mumbai on the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terrorist attack," Pompeo said.&nbsp;

"We stand with the families and friends of the victims, whose loved ones were lost in this act of barbarism, including six American citizens. The barbarity of 26/11 shocked the entire world," said the top American diplomat.&nbsp;

The US, Pompeo said, is committed to seeing that those responsible for the attack face justice. The RFJ programme is offering a new reward for up to USD 5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of any individual who was involved in planning or facilitating the 2008 Mumbai attack. "On behalf of the Government of the United States of America and all Americans, I express my solidarity with the people of India and the city of Mumbai on the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terrorist attack," Pompeo said. "We stand with the families and friends of the victims, whose loved ones were lost in this act of barbarism, including six American citizens. The barbarity of 26/11 shocked the entire world," said the top American diplomat.

BJP president Amit Shah said on Monday his party believed that a grand Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya soon and accused the Congress of putting
Hurdles in its construction.

He said the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case is pending before the Supreme Court and it remains to be seen what happens there.

"All people wish that a Ram Temple should be built in Ayodhya soon. We also want that a grand Ram Temple should be build soon," Shah said.

The BJP chief was talking to reporters on the sidelines of his roadshow here on the last day of campaigning for the November 28 assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.

He alleged that the Congress was putting hurdles in the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

To a query on whether the Centre plans to bring an ordinance or enact a law to clear the way for construction of the temple, Shah said, "The Supreme Court has posted the hearing on Ram temple to January. Let's see what happens."

The Supreme Court last month had said that an "appropriate bench" will decide in the first week of January the schedule of hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.

BJP believes a grand Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya: Amit Shah

BJP president Amit Shah Sunday alleged that the Congress had "neglected" the "son of Telangana" and former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao after his death and sought the response of Rahul Gandhi, the chief of the opposition party, in the matter.

He also alleged that the Congress had not paid appropriate last respects to Rao, who died in 2004, when the party was in power at the Centre.

Addressing a public meeting here in Siddipet district ahead of the December 7 Telangana Assembly polls, Shah asked Gandhi to explain the "kind of treatment" meted out to Rao after his demise.

"Now Rahul Gandhiji is saying everyone should live with love. I want to ask him, when the son of Telangana and our former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao had died, (why) no 'salami' was given to his mortal remains and why were they sent to Hyderabad.

"I want to ask him (Gandhi), why such a treatment was meted out to the son of Telangana," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had accused the Congress in the past also of ignoring the legacy of Rao and humiliating him, which was denied by the opposition party.

During his speech, Shah listed out various welfare schemes launched by the Narendra Modi government in the last four-and-a-half years.

He said the Centre was working for various sections of the society, including the poor, farmers, women, Dalits and tribals.

Crores of toilets and houses were built for the people under the watch of the BJP government, Shah said.

"Our government provided LPG connections to poor women and also ensured electricity. These development works improved the standard of living of over 22 crore families," he added.

Improving the country's security was the biggest work of Prime Minister Modi, the BJP chief said.

"Under the previous UPA government, infiltrators from Pakistan used to enter India but no proper reply was given to them in those 10 years. However, after the Uri terror attack (in 2016), India under Modiji carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan and avenged the killing of our soldiers," he added.

Shah said the respect for India had increased manifold in the world under Modi.

Turning to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government in the southern state, he claimed that the ruling party had failed to implement several welfare programmes of the Centre, including its ambitious health insurance scheme, because it was "scared" that the prime minister might become more popular in Telangana.

Shah accused TRS chief and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of not extending any help to the farmers in the state, due to which, he said over 4,000 of them committed suicide in the last four-and-a-half years.

Shah said KCR had failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of Telangana, including the three-acre land parcel scheme for Dalits.

He appealed to the people to vote the saffron party to power in the upcoming polls as the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the TRS had been elected earlier.

"Give one chance to Modiji and we will transform Telangana into a model state in five years," Shah said.

The 119-member Telangana Assembly will go to the polls on December 7 and the results will be announced on December 11.

News brief: Big stories of the day

Curtains came down Monday evening on the acrimonious campaigning for the high-stakes November 28 assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, where star campaigners of the BJP, the Congress and other parties addressed a series of rallies and held roadshows to seek support for candidates.

Canvassing came to a formal end at 5 pm and voting to elect a new 230-member assembly will take place on Wednesday. As many as 2,907 candidates are in the fray.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi were the star campaigners for their respective parties and addressed a number of poll rallies across the state.

They freely exchanged barbs and traded charges, raising the political temperature in the central state.

National and state issues, including the Rafale deal, demonetisation, development, GST, corruption, dynastic politics and the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government's performance, among others, prominently figured in their speeches.

BJP president Amit Shah, too, campaigned in the state, where his party is seeking a fourth straight term in office.

A purported video of MP Congress chief Kamal Nath on Muslim votes went viral during the last leg of electioneering with the BJP accusing the main opposition party of dividing society for electoral gains.

Two hours before the electioneering drew to a close, BJP vice-presidents Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and Prabhat Jha, addressing a press conference here, exuded confidence about the saffron outfit retaining power.

Sahasrabuddhe said electioneering started with "development" and "politics of performance" being discussed, but the Congress stooped low by dragging Modi's parents into the campaigning.

Addressing a separate press meet in the afternoon, chief Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed his party was set to come back to power in the state after 15 years.

Surjewala targeted BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is seeking a fourth term of office, over the lack of development in his assembly constituency Budhni.

The Congress leader claimed 90 per cent of people in Jait, Chouhan's native village, are living below the poverty line. He said poverty had increased in MP under the BJP rule.

Jha, however, countered Surjewala's claims on poverty and dubbed them false.

The BJP is contesting all the 230 seats, while the Congress has fielded 229 candidates, leaving one seat, Jatara in Tikamgarh district, for its ally - Sharad Yadav's Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD).

Besides the Congress and the BJP, other parties like the BSP, the SP, the AAP and the SAPAKS (a new outfit opposed to caste-based quota system) are also in the fray.

While the BJP is fighting the polls under the leadership of Chouhan, the Congress has not projected its chief ministerial candidate.

In the final days of electioneering, Modi crisscrossed the state and addressed 10 public meetings.

Gandhi, during his whirlwind electioneering tour of MP, held 12 public meetings and roadshows this month.

Amit Shah camped in Madhya Pradesh, where he addressed public meetings and held roadshows. The BJP chief held a roadshow in Indore hours before the campaigning ended.

Besides Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani also addressed rallies in support of BJP candidates.

During the electioneering, Gandhi announced his party will waive the loans of farmers in 10 days of coming to power.

Modi, speaking at one of his rallies, said farmers were in debt due to the "wrong policies" of the previous Congress governments and maintained the Centre was working on doubling income of cultivators by 2022.

The BJP primarily focused on the 10-year "misrule" of former Congress Chief Minister Digvijay Singh and listed the achievements under Chouhan.

The ruling party said Madhya Pradesh shed the 'BIMARU' (laggard) tag under Chouhan and saw all-round development under his leadership.

The highest number of 34 candidates are in the Mehgaon constituency in Bhind district, while the lowest -- four -- in Gunnor in Panna district, an EC official said.

According to the official, there are around 1,100 independents in the fray.
The BSP has fielded 227 candidates, while the SP is contesting on 51 seats.&nbsp;

The Aam Aadmi Party, contesting the Madhya Pradesh elections for the first time, has fielded 208 candidates.

As per the final electoral rolls, the state has 5,04,95,251 voters, including 2,41,30,390 women and 1,389 from the third gender.

In the last assembly polls, the BJP had won 165 seats, the Congress 58, the BSP four and independents three.&nbsp;

Campaigning ends in Madhya Pradesh, polls on Nov 28

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said his government was looking for an opportunity to bring to justice the perpetrators of the 26/11 attack, as he expressed solidarity with families of the 166 people who lost their lives during the carnage.

Modi was addressing an election rally in Bhilwara on the tenth anniversary of the terror strike when 10 Pakistani terrorists sneaked into Mumbai, killing scores of people in over 60 hours.

Taking a dig at the Congress, he said it was involved in the game of winning election in Rajasthan and other states when the terror attack shocked the world ten years back.

"The soldiers have their lives in hand and not camera,” said Modi adding that when the 26/11 terror attacks took place, New Delhi was being governed by 'madam' (apparently referring to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi) through a remote control. I remember the slightest criticism over the attacks used to rile up the then ruling party", she said.

On the terror attack, the Prime Minister said: "India will never forget 26/11 (November 26, 2008) attack or its perpetrators. We are looking for an opportunity... the law will take its own course, I assure the people of the country."

"Justice will surely be done," he added while expressing solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives.

He added that a grateful nation bowed to its brave police and security forces who had valiantly fought the terrorists during the Mumbai attacks.

The Prime Minister struck a chord with people in three districts of poll-bound Rajasthan by slamming Congress over what he called was its stand on terrorism, naxalism, tribal development issues and its concerns limited only to one family.

Modi addressed three election rallies in the state which goes to the polls on December 7. The votes will be counted on December 11. &nbsp;

He said the Congress used to teach the lesson of patriotism but when the army carried out surgical strike crossing over the border, the party questioned it and asked for video proof.

Modi asserted the government has given befitting replies to terrorists in their own language and it is costly for a terrorist now to go beyond the soil of Kashmir.

He claimed that terror strikes in the country have come down under the BJP rule.

Referring to Maoists and naxalites, he said they were were killing innocent people but the "Congress leaders and close aides of 'Naamdaar' were giving them certificates of revolutionaries".

Modi said that despite threats of terrorists and naxals, people in Jammu and Chhattisgarh came out to vote and the voting percentage remained at 70-75 per cent.

On the Constitution Day, which also falls on November 26, Modi recalled the stellar contribution of the great people including Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar who served in our Constituent Assembly.

Hitting out at Congress on casteist remarks, Modi said the people's issues do not bother the Opposition party. As the elections are approaching, Congress asks for my caste and is curious about "my father".

“When Prime Minister of India visits America and meets the President, they talk about welfare. Does the President ask him his caste before any discussion? Prime Minister represents caste of 125 crore people of India,” he said.

Responding to recent remarks of a Congress leader who questioned Prime Minister for seeking account of four generations of Congress that ruled the country, Modi remarked "I am a workaholic (Kaamdaar) who has 125 crore people of the country standing behind him. Modi has the courage to question accountability and be accountable of single penny".

"Have you ever heard that I took a holiday? Have you ever heard that I went somewhere for leisure or was missing for a week? I give an account of each and every decision I take and the work that I do" he asserted.

The Prime Minister said that even a month would not be enough to give account of works done by the BJP governments in the Centre and the state.

Highlighting some of the development works, he said that before BJP came to power in 2014, even 40 percent of villages did not have toilets. In four years, 95 percent of villages have toilets.

Only 50 per cent people of the country had their bank account and 55 per cent had LPG connection in 2014 and now every Indian has his bank account and 90 per cent families have LPG connection.

The Prime Minister also spoke about developmental works done by the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje led BJP government in Rajasthan.

He said that 36,000 km new roads were constructed in last five years including rural, state highways and national highways. As many as 50 lakh young entrepreneurs in the state alone received loans under Mudra Scheme.&nbsp;

He appealed to the people of Rajasthan to bring the BJP back to power.

In Dungarpur, Modi lashed out at Congress saying that the party was never concerned about tribals.

“The tribal community used to demand a separate ministry, minister, budget and development policies. But, Congress wasn't concerned about them. It was only after Atal Bihari Vajpayee became PM, that a dedicated ministry of tribal affairs was set-up," he Modi said addressing an election rally in Beneshwar Dham, a famous religious centre in Rajasthan's Dungarpur district.

In Kota, he urged people to understand the power of their one vote.

We are looking for an opportunity... the law will take its own course, I assure the people of the country." "Justice will surely be done," he added while expressing solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives. Modi addressed three election rallies in the state which goes to the polls on December 7. The votes will be counted on December 11. He said that 36,000 km new roads were constructed in last five years including rural, state highways and national highways. As many as 50 lakh young entrepreneurs in the state alone received loans under Mudra Scheme. "... Your one vote has given speed to the country. It has the power to change the country and shape its future,” Modi added.

A week after <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/us-tourists-death-in-andaman-3-accused-taken-into-police-custody-178874">American national John Allen Chau</a>, 26, was reportedly killed by an arrow by north Sentinelese tribesmen in Andaman islands, police officials are working with anthropologists and psychologists to retrieve his body.

Chau, who was believed <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/us-tourist-killed-by-isolated-tribe-in-andaman-and-nicobars-north-sentinel-island-7-arrested-178559">to be an American missionary,</a> had written notes on his adventures which was recovered by police later. The letters were handed over to the police by his local contact Alexander who was arrested in connection with Chau's&nbsp;killing.

The access to north Sentinel Island and its buffer zone is strictly restricted under the Protection of Aboriginal Tribe (Regulation), 1956 and Regulations under Indian Forest Act, 1927.

Director general of police, Andaman and Nicobar, Dependra Pathak had said that as part of the probe, a police team last week had made a trip towards the Sentinel island with Alexander.

"We are in constant touch with anthropologists and psychologists," said Dependra Pathak added.

"If they suggest any methodology to interact without disturbing them then we can draw (up a) strategy," he said. "At this stage, we don't have any plan to confront our Sentinelese," he told Reuters.

The American embassy had said last week that they were working with the Indian government to find out more details about Chau's death.

A day before he was killed, Chau in his notes had said that while standing near the shore of the Sentinel island he saw two persons as the sun rose, he reportedly told them that he too has two legs. He wrote that he was inches from an "unusual guy about 5 ft 5" and as they got together he gave them some gifts.

However, the man "shot me with an arrow that directly hit the Bible which I was holding near my chest", he wrote.

The Sentinelese people are among the tribes that survived the tsunami of 2004. According to the 2011 census, only 15 Sentinelese people - 12 men and three women were believed to have existed. However, some experts say it could be more.

The natives of the island are known to keep away from visitors and often attacked them.

In 2006, two Indian fishermen, who had anchored their boat near north Sentinel were killed when their boat broke loose and drifted onto the shore.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said Monday his minister Navjot Singh Sidhu's decision to visit Pakistan for the ground-breaking ceremony of Kartarpur corridor was "his way of thinking" but he could not think of doing that when Indian soldiers and civilians were being killed by them.

Sidhu, a cabinet minister in Punjab, on Sunday accepted Pakistan's invitation to attend the ceremony on Wednesday, while Singh declined the invite, citing continuous terrorist attacks in his state.

As a man who has served the Indian Army, Singh said, he could not tolerate the killing of innocent Indians by Pakistani security forces and hence cannot visit the neighbouring country.

On Sidhu's decision to go to Pakistan for the ground-breaking ceremony there, Singh told reporters after the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur Sahib Corridor in Gurdaspur, that it was "his way of thinking".

On the central government's decision to send its ministers to Pakistan for the ceremony, the Punjab chief minister said it was for them to do what they deem fit but, he added, they should have been more sensitive to the feelings of Indian soldiers and citizens.

"The Centre cannot close its eyes to what is happening in India as a result of Pakistan's policy and support to terrorist groups," Singh said.

He said the world knows Pakistan supports terrorist activities in India, and cited as examples the attacks in Pathankot (2016), Mumbai (2008), Dina Nagar in Gurdaspur (2015) and the trouble in Jammu &amp; Kashmir.

Singh said he would not travel to Pakistan until it stops unleashing the cycle of violence in India.

"If you think (Pakistan Prime Minister) Imran Khan can stop it, that won't happen. Governments work under the army in Pakistan. Army is a power in itself. It is for Pakistan Army chief Gen Bajwa to understand that such things should not happen (again)... Armies don't fight innocent women and children, armies don't throw grenades on religious congregation, armies are there to defend the country," he said.

In August, Sidhu's visit to Pakistan for Khan's swearing-in had come under fire from opposition parties for his hug to Pakistan Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa. Sidhu had claimed that Gen Bajwa had told him about "making efforts to open the Kartarpur corridor".

Kartarpur is in Shakargarh in Narowal district of Pakistan's Punjab province. Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, had spent over 18 years of his life here.

Remembering those who lost their lives in the deadly terror attacks that shook Mumbai on November 26, 2008, President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday said that India remains "honour-bound" to defeating terrorism.

"Ten years after the Mumbai terror attacks, thoughts are with families and individuals who suffered. We salute those from the police and security forces who made the supreme sacrifice that day. India remains honour-bound to securing justice, and defeating terrorism #PresidentKovind," he tweeted.

India's financial capital came to a standstill on this very day a decade ago when 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who came to Mumbai via sea route from Pakistan carried out a series of coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across the city.

Attacks took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station, Cama Hospital, Nariman House business and residential complex, Leopold Cafe, Taj Mahal Hotel and Tower, and the Oberoi-Trident Hotel over a span of four days, killing 166 people and injuring over 300.

As India remembers the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks on its tenth anniversary, various events will be organised across the nation, especially in Mumbai, to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the ghastly attacks.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international working president Alok Kumar said Sunday the outfit will hold gatherings in every Lok Sabha constituency till December 6 to garner support for building a Ram temple at Ayodhya.

The VHP will "order" the MPs to support a law for the construction ofRam temple, he said at a rally here.

While the first case in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue was filed in 1950, the matter is still dragging on, Kumar said, adding the Supreme Court had ordered the district court hearing the criminal case related to the conspiracy to demolish Babri Masjid to decide the matter by March 2019.

Why then did the apex court not expedite the hearing of appeals on the title suit of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid in the same way, he asked.

The VHP leader cited the example of the ordinance which restored provisions related to an immediate arrest in the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Arrest) Act after the Supreme Court had diluted it and argued that even when a matter is before a court, a law can be brought in the matter.

"Starting from this month, from today itself, VHP will conduct 547 sabha (gatherings) in all Lok Sabha constituencies and meet respective MPs, and order them to support the law for Ram temple as asked by people," Kumar said.&nbsp;

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday will lay the foundation stone for the construction of Dera Baba Nanak-Karatarpur Sahib road corridor.

The corridor will reach up to the international border with Pakistan. The foundation stone laying ceremony will be performed in the Mann village of Gurdaspur district in Punjab. Vice President Naidu will be accompanied by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has also announced that the party leadership and workers would take part in the ground-breaking ceremony of the proposed corridor to Shri Kartarpur Sahib on the Indian soil while singing hymns of Gurbani on November 26.

<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/india-pak-agree-to-build-kartarpur-corridor-imran-khan-to-break-ground-on-november-28-178837">The decision to build the corridor</a> from Dera Baba Nanak to the International Border was taken on November 22 by the Union Cabinet. On the same day Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, had announced that Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan would be breaking ground for the Kartarpur corridor on November 28.

The development of the corridor will facilitate lakhs of pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of river Ravi, in Pakistan, where Guru Nanak Dev spent 18 years.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had issued a Note Verbale to the Pakistani Government, urging it to develop a corridor with suitable facilities in its territory from the International Border to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib to facilitate the easy access and passage of Indian pilgrims throughout the year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while participating in the Gurpurab celebrations on November 23 had said that Kartarpur Corridor could be a <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/kartarpur-corridor-will-act-as-a-bridge-for-people-of-india-and-pakistan-pm-modi-179055">reason to connect people</a>, adding that the incidents of 1947 should be left behind.

He had also added that if the Berlin Wall, which restricted the relationship between the people of East and West Germany could be pulled down, then the Kartarpur Corridor between India and Pakistan can also promote people to people contact.

The Pakistan Government on November 23, extended an invitation to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab cabinet minister and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor on November 28.

The invitation was, however, declined by Swaraj citing her prior commitments pertaining to election campaigns. Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Minister of State (IC) for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri would be representing the Indian government in the groundbreaking ceremony.

A day later, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also declined Pakistan's invitation to attend the Kartarpur Corridor foundation-laying ceremony to be held on November 28, citing continued terrorist attacks in his state and killings of Indian soldiers by Pakistan armed forces as the reason.

Interestingly, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has accepted the invitation and will be attending the opening ceremony of Kartarpur corridor.

Vice President Naidu to lay foundation of Kartarpur corridor today

Pakistan on Sunday welcomed India's decision to send its two Union ministers to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor next week, terming it a "positive response".

Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan is located across the river Ravi, about four kilometres from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. It was established by the Sikh Guru in 1522. The first Gurdwara, Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, was built here, where Guru Nanak Dev is said to have died.

Both India and Pakistan have announced that stretches would be developed in their respective areas, linking Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

Pak Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed India's decision to send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri, Radio Pakistan reported. Qureshi termed India's decision as a "positive response to Pakistan's move", it said.

"India has responded well to Pakistan's initiative in its bid to bring the Sikh community closer," he told the Associated Press of Pakistan during his visit to the stall of Indian High Commission at the Pakistan Foreign Office Women's Association charity bazar here.

India's High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria received Foreign Minister Qureshi at the stall.

Qureshi said Pakistan has won the hearts of millions of Sikhs with a single but significant step and expressed confidence that the Kartarpur corridor would attract members of the Sikh community to Pakistan from across the globe including the United States and the United Kingdom.

He said that the Sikh community will be greeted here amid sentiments of love and would take back positive image about Pakistan and its people.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the opening of the Kartarpur border showed that Pakistan stands with peace in the region.

"Pakistan through its conduct has once again shown who stands for peace in South Asia and which force is not sincere. PM Imran Khan has clearly shown Pakistan stands for peace.&nbsp;

Kartarpur border opening is history in the making, history will judge those who stood on the wrong side," he tweeted.

On Saturday, Qureshi extended an invitation to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and state minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to attend the ceremony at Kartarpur on November 28.

Swaraj thanked him for the invite and said that India will send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri to Pakistan next week to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor.

Amarinder declined Pakistan's invite while Sidhu accepted the request with "with unalloyed joy".

The corridor, once built, will give Indian pilgrims easy access to the shrine.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the groundbreaking ceremony of the corridor on the Pakistani side on November 28.
