Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday hit out at the Congress saying that the party had not taken any action against terrorists during their regime and asserted that Prime Minister ordered a surgical strike against terrorists after the Pulwama attack.&nbsp;

"During Congress time, Mauni Baba (Manmohan Singh) was our prime minister. That time terrorists used to enter the country and kill our soldiers. After Pulwama attack, Narendra Modi took action in 10 days by doing strike on terrorists based in Pakistan. He ensured that the country is safe," he said at an event here.

On February 26 this year, IAF fighters flew deep into Pakistan to bomb the JeM facility at Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The action came after the February 14 suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir`s Pulwama, which killed over 40 CRPF personnel.&nbsp;

Highlighting several `positive` changes in the country, Shah that the BJP-led government abolished Article 370 which opened the doors of development for Jammu and Kashmir.

"We made positive changes in many parts of country. We abolished article 370 and 35 A and made Kashmir part of India. Doors for development in Kashmir has now opened," he said.&nbsp;

"Congress MPs in Parliament said blood rivers will flow in Kashmir as this Article (370) was abolished but nothing happened. Without firing any bullet there is peace in Kashmir. No bullet has been fired till now," the Home Minister added.&nbsp;

In August this year, the Central government revoked Article 370 which gave special provisions to Jammu and Kashmir and also bifurcated the state into two union territories.&nbsp;

Amidst furore over Gopal Kanda`s backing to the BJP for government formation in Haryana, the party on Saturday cleared that it would not take any support from his Haryana Lokhit Party leader.

"No question of including Gopal Kanda in the government, neither are we taking his support," Senior Haryana BJP leader Anil Vij, told ANI.&nbsp;

Kanda, who won from the Sirsa Assembly constituency in the recently held Haryana election, allegedly abetted suicide of a young air hostess who worked for his aviation company in 2012.&nbsp;

A few months later, the girl`s mother had also allegedly killed herself.

As the results were declared on Thursday, Kanda pledged support to the BJP.&nbsp;

Expressing discontent, senior party leader Uma Bharti on Friday urged party leaders to remember the moral values of their organisation.&nbsp;

"If Gopal Kanda is the same person because of whom a girl had committed suicide and her mother also committed suicide as she did not get justice. The case is still pending in court, and this person is out on bail," she tweeted.

"Whether Gopal Kanda is innocent or criminal will be decided by law on the basis of evidence, but winning an election does not acquit him of crimes. There are many factors in winning an election," she added.&nbsp;

The BJP won 40 seats in the Haryana Assembly elections and tried to stitch up an alliance with Independents. However, it came under attack from the opposition over taking support from Kanda.

Later the BJP sealed an alliance with Dushyant Chautala`s newly formed political outfit Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which won 10 seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly.

"We have formed the alliance for the benefit of the state," he said while speaking to reporters here and added that he believes the alliance will last for five years.

"We are not taking support from anyone. Who is supporting whom in the (Legislative Assembly)) House is an independent decision of that individual (hum kahi kisi ko nahin le rahe hain... house me kaun kisko support krta hai...ye uss admi ka independent faisla hai)," he said.

On the BJP`s aim to achieve more than 75 seats in the state, Vij said, "We need to think seriously about the shortcomings. We will ask the workers about it."

Asked about several Ministers from the Haryana Cabinet losing the elections, the senior BJP leader said, "When I am saying that we will think, then we will think about all these issues. But it is necessary to ask those who lost before that. It will not be right to come to a conclusion without consulting them."

He also took a jibe at Bhupinder Singh Hooda saying the former Chief Minister should tell how did he run the government for five years when he got 40 MLAs.

On October 25, it was reported that The BJP and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) have decided to come together to form a government in Haryana and it will have deputy chief minister from the regional party.&nbsp;

Union Minister of Railways, Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that the government is targeting to become one of the top 25 countries in ease of doing business by the year 2024.

"Our target is to first come among the top 50 countries and then eventually find a spot among the top 25 countries in the list. Only developed countries, who have advanced economies, are among the top 25. India's target is to become a part of that club," Piyush Goyal told ANI.

The union minister said that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, he felt the need to reform the economic policies so as to attract investment on a large scale.

"There was not much development in the first few years of our government. After the year 2016, we started taking landmark decisions regarding the economy. Once the World Bank started assessing the impact of those decisions, India rose on the ease of doing business list," he said.

Goyal said that India ranked 142 in ease of doing business in the year 2014 but has moved up to 63 this year.

"Probably no other country would have made such growth in this short period of time. We had picked up from a declining trend in 2014 and have reached at 63 now. India is one of the countries who have been rising on the list for the past three years," he said.

"It is also important that India has moved to 52nd rank from 108 earlier in insolvency list. We were also at 27th rank in construction permits list from 52 earlier," Goyal added.

The union minister is in Sweden, where he had participated in the 19th Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation (JCEC).

The slaying of two truck drivers from Rajasthan who were killed by terrorists in South Kashmir’s Shopian has created an atmosphere of fear among the non-local truck divers in the valley.

The slaying of two truck drivers from Rajasthan who were killed by terrorists in South Kashmir’s Shopian has created an atmosphere of fear among the non-local truck divers in the valley. In south Kashmir, according to truck drivers, around 100 trucks have left without loading apples after reports emerged about the murder of the truck drivers. On Thursday night, terrorists opened fire on two drivers and injured one critically near Chittargam village in Shopian district, mostly known for its Apple production. Terrorists also set three trucks on fire by hurling petrol bombs inside the cabins. “We are afraid but we also have to do our work because our families are dependent on the income we get from driving these trucks,” said Irfan Pathan, a driver from Rajasthan. Ilyas Khan and Zahid Khan from Rajasthan died on the spot while Jeevan Singh sustained bullet injury for which he is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Srinagar. “Every driver wants to leave Shopian and go home,” says Mohammad Ilyas, a truck driver from Uttar Pradesh, who was loading apples in his truck. The government has already created ‘safe zones’ for Apple traders and drivers after the killing of a truck driver Sharief Khan in a similar fashion on October 14 by two terrorists. After killing Sharief, terrorists also killed a Punjab-based apple trader Charanjeet Singh and leaving his colleague Sanjeev injured. “We have made secure zones to realign trucks in our district. We wanted all our growers to reach these zones to load apples in trucks. This was also done to provide them security,” said Yasin Choudhary, deputy commissioner Shopian. Authorise believe that the attacks on non-local residents are being carried out to hurt the Apple business and also to create fear in the valley. The drivers who have been transporting apples outside the valley say that they have never been fearful in Kashmir before. “These trucks had gone on the interiors of Shopian and were out of our sight. We have motivated drivers to continue and local people have also come forward for this”, said Yasin Choudhary, deputy commissioner Shopian.

Indians can now have easy access to Sao Paulo after&nbsp;Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced today that the South American nation will no longer require Indians to obtain a visa while visiting the country as a tourist or for business purposes.

The announcement was made by the Brazilian president while he was in China during an official visit. &nbsp;

WION&nbsp;spoke to the Brazilian embassy in New Delhi which said: "Brazil wants more businessmen and tourists from India. There are untapped opportunities for deepening people-to-people contact. We are implementing measures which could be the first step to facilitate bringing our people closer."

Earlier this year, the visa relaxation rule followed Brazil's move on similar lines to a number of nations including the USA, Canada, Japan and Australia. Brazilians, on the other hand, are still required to obtain visas for the said nations.

The new strategy outlined an openness towards tourists while eliminating visa requirements for countries with the biggest economic potential which also helps to promote Brazil's diverse culture and natural marvels.

India and Brazil share a close and multifaceted relationship at the bilateral level as well as in plurilateral fora such as BRICS, BASIC, G-20, IBSA, and several others.

According to government data, more than 4,700 Indians reside in Brazil with the majority of them living in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Manaus. The community mainly comprises of professionals, businessmen, scientists and researchers connected with space, agriculture, physics, and biotechnology. There is also an India association in Sao Paulo.

Apart from this, India and Brazil also share an interest in commercial, defense and cultural relations including the ITEC program. About 55 Brazilians have visited India under the ITEC program for training in communication, defense and management in the past seven years.

The Congress on Friday opposed India signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, saying it will be the "third big jolt" to the Indian economy after demonetization and GST and will result in liberalising Chinese imports to the Indian market.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that there was a possibility of India signing the RCEP agreement.

"After demonetisation and GST, it will be the third big jolt to our economy when the Prime Minister goes to Bangkok the next month and expresses India`s agreement to Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership," he said.

He said the government was not talking about` Made in India` now and the agreement will encourage `Made in China`.

Ramesh said that the balance of trade was heavily in favour of China.

"RCEP will result in the liberalisation of imports from China. We do not know what was discussed in Wuhan or Mahabalipuram but we can see the results, there will be liberalisation in imports from China. `Made in India` is not mentioned now. It`ll encourage `Made in China`," he said.

He said that managing director of Amul has written a letter to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in which he has expressed concern and said that Indian dairy cooperative will be ruined if India proceeds with RCEP.

"Managing Director of Amul has written to Minister Piyush Goyal stating that India should not do RCEP, else dairy cooperative would be ruined. The milk will be imported from New Zealand, sugar from Australia, dairy products would be imported and it will also ruin our agriculture," he said.

"India will accept the free flow of data under RCEP. The national interest particularly the national security has been removed from the draft RCEP," he added.

Ramesh alleged that the government was keen to sign the agreement due to "mismanagement of the economy".

"There is a text to RCEP, there is context to RCEP. The text to RCEP is bad, the concept is worst," he added.

The European Union looked set on Friday to delay a decision on Britain's request for a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/british-pm-boris-johnson-sends-unsigned-letter-seeking-brexit-delay-256989">Brexit extension</a> to give time for Britain's parliament to decide on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's call for an election.

"I'd be surprised if we land today," said an EU official before ambassadors to the 27 other EU member states went into a meeting to discuss postponing Britain's departure from the bloc, less than a week before the current deadline of October&nbsp;31.

Separately, a senior EU official said the 27 may agree in principle to a delay but set no new date until after parliament's vote on Monday on whether to have a snap election on December&nbsp;12.

Johnson admitted on Thursday that he would not meet his <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/johnson-adamant-on-brexit-deadline-despite-delay-request-257170">"do or die" deadline</a> of October&nbsp;31 and demanded a pre-Christmas poll to end what he cast as the "nightmare" of the Brexit crisis.

EU envoys to Brussels were due to discuss the length of a third delay to Brexit on Friday, though officials said they would be reluctant to set a date because it could dictate the direction of political events in London.

According to a draft decision by the 27, which was seen by Reuters on Thursday evening, a delay would be granted "with the view to allowing for the finalisation of the ratification" of the divorce agreement sealed with Johnson last week.

The draft text left the new Brexit date blank, but said the split could take place earlier if ratification was completed earlier - an idea known as "flextension", an amalgamation of the words "flexible" and "extension".

An EU official explained: "It's basically between a three-month flextension or a two-tier one."

Under the first idea, Britain would leave on Jan. 31, three months after the current departure date, but earlier if it and the EU raify an agreement before that. The second one would include a second specific date when Britain could leave.

Johnson won the leadership of the ruling Conservative Party to become prime minister in a minority government by staking his career on getting Brexit done by October&nbsp;31, but after parliament rejected his proposed legislative timetable on Tuesday he will fail to do that.

Brexit was initially supposed to have taken place on March 29 but Johnson's predecessor, Theresa May, was forced to delay twice as parliament defeated her Brexit deal by margins of between 58 and 230 votes earlier this year. Her failure cost May her job.

Johnson said in a letter to opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn on Thursday he would give parliament more time to approve his Brexit deal by Nov. 6 but lawmakers must on Monday back a December election, Johnson's third attempt to try to force a snap vote.

"Prolonging this paralysis into 2020 would have dangerous consequences," he said. "If I win a majority in this election, we will then ratify the great new deal that I have negotiated, get Brexit done in January and the country will move on."

Corbyn said he would wait to see what the EU decides on a Brexit delay before deciding which way to vote on Monday, repeating that he could only back an election when the risk of Johnson taking Britain out of the EU without a deal to smooth the transition was off the table.

It is not clear how Corbyn would respond if the EU makes no decision on a date on Friday.

The European Union looked set on Friday to delay a decision on Britain's request for a Brexit extension to give time for Britain's parliament to decide on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's call for an election. "I'd be surprised if we land today," said an EU official before ambassadors to the 27 other EU member states went into a meeting to discuss postponing Britain's departure from the bloc, less than a week before the current deadline of October 31. Separately, a senior EU official said the 27 may agree in principle to a delay but set no new date until after parliament's vote on Monday on whether to have a snap election on December 12. Johnson admitted on Thursday that he would not meet his "do or die" deadline of October 31 and demanded a pre-Christmas poll to end what he cast as the "nightmare" of the Brexit crisis. EU envoys to Brussels were due to discuss the length of a third delay to Brexit on Friday, though officials said they would be reluctant to set a date because it could dictate the direction of political events in London.
