Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief Dushyant Chautala on Friday said his party will support any party in the formation of government in Haryana which agrees to a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) that provides for 75 per cent reservation in government jobs for natives of Haryana.

Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief Dushyant Chautala on Friday said his party will support any party in the formation of government in Haryana which agrees to a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) that provides for 75 per cent reservation in government jobs for natives of Haryana. "The party which agrees to Common Minimum Programme in which we want 75 per cent reservation in government jobs for Haryanvis and implementing Chaudhary Devi Lal`s idea of old age pension, we will give our support to it," Chautala said at a press conference in New Delhi. "JJP will support to the party which agrees to our demands under the common minimum programme," he added. The 11-month old JJP won 10 seats in its debut assembly polls and its role can be crucial in formation of a government in Haryana as no party has got full majority. The JJP national executive, which met here, elected Chautala as leader of the legislative party. Chautala also said that JJP has not spoken to any other party on formation of government as the meeting of national executive to decide party`s agenda had not been held. "Now we`ve been authorised, we`ll talk to concerned people. Hopefully, in few hours or few days we`ll have positive result," he said. While the BJP won 40 seats in the 90-member assembly, Congress won 31 seats in the state. The BJP has got support of independents but Congress has not given up efforts to form a government in the state.

Will support party which agrees to CMP with our demands: Dushyant Chautala

Historic 98% turnout in J&K's local body polls would make every Indian proud: PM Narendra Modi

After the landslide victory in Indian general elections, BJP entered the electoral contest with a lot of confidence.

Both Maharashtra and Haryana were already being ruled by the BJP but the election results threw a surprise for the largest party in the country.

First, let's take a look at Maharashtra. The contest was for 288 seats.

The Maharashtra assembly has 289 seats — but one seat is reserved for a nominated member.

The magic number for Maharashtra is 144. BJP has won 104 seats as compared to 122 in 2014 elections. A dip of 18 seats.

While its alliance partner Shiv Sena also lost 7 seats as compared to 2014. Last time they had won 63 seats. While this time their tally was at 56.

The incumbent alliance is set to form the govt again. But the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has underperformed in the state. They have fallen short of their target of 220 seats.

Congress and NCP had joined hands for the elections. And the decision has paid well for them.

Especially for Sharad Pawar, his beleaguered party has managed to slow the saffron march in the state.

NCP gained 13 seats. As compared to 41 in 2014. Pawar's party got 54 seats this time.

While congress to benefit from the alliance. They won 45 seats this time As compared to 42 in the last elections. A gain of 3 seats.

Ministers bite dust

Even though Sena and BJP are set to form the government, 7 of their sitting minister have been defeated.

Topping the chart is Pankaja Munde. She has lost from the parliament constituency of Maharashtra.

She is the daughter of late BJP veteran — Gopinath Munde. She is also the state's rural development, and women and child welfare minister.

Another interesting detail is that BJP did not benefit from the Shiv Sena alliance. When BJP went alone in 2014, it got seats in triple numbers and with the alliance, the party got confined to double-digit. The alliance did not work well for BJP in 2019.

Maharashtra assembly election results 2019: BJP-Shiv Sena set to form govt but fall short of their projected target

Assembly Election results in Haryana and Maharasthra have shown that there is still some hope left for regional parties in electoral politics of India.

While BJP continues to dominate the political landscape of the country, Sharad Pawar and Dushyant Chautala have managed to make inroads.

Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), despite divisions within his family, has firmly grabbed the reins of Jat politics and sentiments in districts which are their traditional strongholds.

While the Maratha strongman Sharad Pawar was the last man standing who did not give up even in the face of the mass exodus from NCP-Congress to Shiv Sena and BJP.

In Haryana, the BJP won 40 seats, with the main opposition Congress party cornering 31 seats. The state has a 90-member assembly, meaning either party will need an ally to form a government.

Jannayak Janata Party, a regional party that has emerged a likely kingmaker in the state with 10 seats, has not announced who it will side with.

"The keys to the Haryana assembly will be with the Jannayak Janta Party," party leader Dushyant Chautala told reporters on Thursday.

The results for 286 Assembly constituencies of Maharashtra were declared on Thursday with the BJP securing a total of 105 seats and its alliance partner Shiv Sena, 56 seats.

As per the Election Commission, BJP secured 105 seats, Shiv Sena (56), Congress (44) and the Nationalist Congress Party (54).

While Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi won 3 seats, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen, Prahar Janshakti Party and Samajwadi Party won 2 seats each.

One seat each was bagged by Sawbhimani Pakasha, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha, Peasants and Workers Party of India, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Krantikari Shetkari Party, Jan Surajya Shakti and Communist Party of India (Marxist).

BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won an absolute majority in the Maharashtra assembly polls.

Pollution levels in New Delhi have hit their worst for the second time in October, earning a "very poor" rating and indicating air quality could deteriorate further after the festival of Diwali.

The air quality index, which measures the concentration of poisonous particulate matter, touched 388 in New Delhi on Friday, according to US embassy data, way above the "safe" limit of 60.

The index measures the concentration of tiny poisonous particulate matter, PM2.5, particles that are less than 2.5 microns in diameter and can be carried deep into the lungs, causing deadly diseases including cancer and cardiac problems.

Senior government officials, who did not wish to be identified because they are not authorised to talk to media, said the main reason behind the sharp deterioration in air quality was a lack of wind speed.

A thick, toxic haze could envelop New Delhi and neighbouring cities if the authorities fail to clamp down on fireworks to celebrate Diwali, the festival of light that falls on Sunday.

Air quality usually starts worsening in New Delhi ahead of Diwali.

The Supreme Court last year allowed the use of only "safe and green firecrackers", for a maximum two hours, and only in designated areas such as parks, aiming to lessen the risk to health.

But authorities failed to enforce the decree and crackers continued to crackle late into the night. As a result, PM 2.5 levels in some parts of the city soared to 689 the next day, indicating emergency conditions.

To avoid a repeat of last year and wean residents away from bursting tens of thousands of firecrackers, New Delhi authorities are offering residents laser light shows to mark Diwali this weekend.

Other than the smog triggered by firecrackers, smoke from the surrounding countryside, where farmers at this time of the year burn the crop residue in their fields to prepare for winter sowing, causes pollution in New Delhi and surrounding cities.

Among a host of measures to curb pollution, the city government of New Delhi has decided to restrict the use of private cars between November 4-15.

Some of the other steps include banning diesel-run generators and the burning of garbage.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 103 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, while its ally Shiv Sena is ahead in 63 seats, as per official trends from the Election Commission (EC).

Congress, on the other hand, is leading on five seats while its alliance partner, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is ahead in 41 seats.

Independents are leading on four seats and the Krantikari Shetkari Party is ahead in one constituency, according to the EC.
There are 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly. Counting of votes began at 8 am today.

The state went to polls in a single phase on October 21.

The electoral fate of 3,237 candidates in Maharashtra was sealed in EVMs by the voters who had exercised their franchise in the assembly polls. At least 96,661 polling booths were set up in Maharashtra for citizens to cast their votes.

BJP had contested on 150 seats while Shiv Sena had fielded it candidates in 124 constituencies in the state. The remaining seats were left for smaller allies. On the other hand, Congress contested the polls in alliance with the NCP.

The assembly poll results will be crucial for the NCP as well as for Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), AIMIM and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA).

Most exit polls have predicted the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance getting elected in Maharashtra but have differed in their projection of the number of seats.

The assembly elections are the first after the BJP-led government's decision to revoke Article 370. A verdict in its favour will give a boost to the party ahead of the winter session of Parliament next month.

A victory will also keep the political momentum with the BJP after its emphatic victory in the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The polls are equally as crucial for the Congress which has faced desertions after its second successive debacle in the Lok Sabha polls. A strong performance will help the party in its process of electoral revival.

The BJP has already declared that incumbent Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will continue to lead the state government if the party is voted to power.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 103 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, while its ally Shiv Sena is ahead in 63 seats, as per official trends from the Election Commission (EC).
