The government on Friday asked protesting farmers to be vigilant against their platform being misused, saying some "anti-social" as well as "Leftist and Maoist" elements are conspiring to spoil the atmosphere of the agitation even as the protesters stuck to their demands.

Photographs of some protesters at the Tikri border seen holding posters demanding release of activists arrested under various charges had gone viral, prompting Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to say that these "anti-social elements" are conspiring to spoil the atmosphere of the peasants' movement under the guise of farmers.

He also said the government is sensitive towards farmers and is in discussion with them and their representatives to resolve their concerns.

"A proposal to resolve the farmers' objection has also been sent to the farmers union and the government is ready for further discussion," Tomar tweeted.

Food, Railway and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal was more direct in his charge, alleging that certain Leftist and Maoist elements seem to have taken "control" of the agitation and rather than discussing on farmer issues, they seem to be having some other agenda.

In a tweet, he said, "People of India are watching, seeing what is happening, observing how across the country Leftist-Maoists are not finding any support &amp; therefore they are trying to hijack this farmers agitation &amp; trying misuse this platform for their own agenda."

Farmer leaders had on Thursday insisted that their ongoing protest against the Centre's new farm laws was "apolitical".

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Friday asserted that anything less than scrapping of the new agri laws won't be accepted and if the government wants to talk, farmer leaders should be formally conveyed like in previous occasions.

The government had asked farmer groups to consider its proposals for amending the Acts to address their concerns and said it was open to discussing its offer further whenever the unions want.

"They (government) should first tell us when and where they want to meet us as they did for previous formal talks. If they invite us for talks, we will discuss that with our coordination committee and then take a decision," Tikait told PTI.

The BKU leader said there was no question of returning home until the government repeals the three laws.

Asked whether the government has sent any invite for further discussion, he said the farmer unions have not received anything as such.

"One thing is very clear that farmers will not accept anything less than scrapping of new agriculture laws," he said.

Farmers leaders on Thursday announced they would block railway tracks across the country if their demands were not met by the government and would announce a date for that soon.

At least five rounds of formal talks have taken place between the Centre and representatives of farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, protesting on various borders of the national capital for about two weeks, but the deadlock has continued with the unions sticking to their main demand for the repeal of the three contentious laws.

The sixth round of talks between the government and farm union leaders, which was scheduled for Wednesday morning, was cancelled.

In a major development for South Asia, Bhutan and Israel formally established diplomatic relations with the exchange of diplomatic documents between Israeli envoy to India Ron Malka and Bhutanese envoy General Vetsop Namgyel in Delhi on Saturday.

Following the ceremony, the foreign ministers of the two countries, Bhutanese FM Lyonpo Dr. Tandi Dorji and Israeli FM Gabi Ashkenazi sent mutual congratulations. &nbsp;

A joint statement after the establishment of ties said, "it would not only build upon the existing close ties but open the path to greater cooperation and further strengthen relations between the two countries and peoples."

Both countries have had cordial ties&nbsp;with Israel supporting Bhutan's human resource development since 1982, especially in areas such as agriculture development.

The joint statement said&nbsp;both sides, "reiterated the shared desire of the two countries to further strengthen bilateral cooperation to the benefit of both peoples" and "in addition to deepening cooperation in areas including economic, technological, and agricultural development, the two ambassadors highlighted that the ties between the peoples through cultural exchanges and tourism would also be further enhanced."

Key areas both sides plan to increase cooperation after the establishment of ties are water management, technology, human resource development and&nbsp;agricultural sciences.

The development comes even as just last month Germany and Bhutan established ties. In West Asia, Bhutan already has ties with Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Oman. The last time the Himalayan country established any diplomatic relations with a West Asian country was with Oman in 2013.

Bhutan now has diplomatic relations with 55 countries. It is interesting to point out, Thimphu does not have any formal diplomatic relation with any P5 country&nbsp; - US, Russia, UK, France or China.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India was not just on-track to achieve its Paris Agreement targets, but it will also exceed them beyond expectation. He was speaking at the Climate Ambition Summit hosted by the United Nations and UK. The Summit marked fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement.

"We have reduced our emission intensity by 21 per cent over 2005 levels. Our solar capacity has grown from 2.63GW in 2014 to 36 GW in 2020. Our renewable energy capacity is the fourth largest in the world. It will reach 175GW before 2022. "

He added that India had an even more ambitious target now: 450GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, and the country has also succeeded in expanding its forest cover and safeguarding its biodiversity.

PM Modi said that as the world was setting its sight to achieve higher targets, it must not lose sight of the past.

"Also review our achievements against targets already set, only then can our voices be credible for future generations. India is not only on track to achieve its Paris Agreement targets, but to exceed them beyond expectations", said Modi.

PM Modi added that in 2047, India will celebrate 100 years as a modern independent nation.

"To all fellow residents of this planet, I make a solemn pledge today that Centennial India will not only meet its own targets but also exceed your expectations," said Modi.

Citing India`s contribution on a global level to fight climate change, Modi said on the world stage, India has pioneered two major initiatives -- the international solar alliance and coalition for disaster resilience infrastructure.

The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. The agreement was adopted by 196 parties at 21st Conference of Parties in Paris, on December 12, 2015, and was enforced on November 4, 2016.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday requested the Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to speed up the process to build six more airports in the state.

"I request the Ministry of Civil Aviation to kindly expedite finalizing the sites and getting all statutory clearances on a single-window basis so that the government can commence the infrastructure work," said Rao.

Rao is currently in New Delhi, where he personally met Puri and discussed the matter.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said this will enable Telangana to start non-scheduled operators` permit (NSOP) operations with its own funds.

Rao reminded Puri that he had requested the Prime Minister immediately after the formation of Telangana in 2014 to establish six more airports as the state has only one at Hyderabad.

Telangana had proposed new airports to be built at Basantnagar (Peddapally district), Mamnoor (Warangal urban), Adilabad, Jakranpally (Nizamabad), Devarkadra (Mehboobnagar) and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

Following discussions with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), it was decided that only no-frills airports for smaller aircraft will be developed, which may be expanded in the future for commercial operations depending on demand.

"Though AAI has already taken up the Obstacle Limitation Surface Survey (OLS), soil testing and other investigations at the sites and some draft reports have recently come, the final reports are yet to be given," he highlighted.

Rao also produced a copy of the letter he wrote to Narendra Modi on September 6, 2014 about the proposal for Puri`s reference.

India built the Shahid Behesti Port at Chabahar as part of India, Iran, Afghanistan 2016 agreement to increase its connectivity with Afghanistan and beyond. Over the next six to eight months, India will attempt to deliver 600 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines using its expansive election machinery.&nbsp;

As part of this move, the most vulnerable groups will be given the vaccine, which will be stored in cold chain systems.

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/serum-institute-bharat-biotech-vaccines-applied-for-emergency-use-in-india-349185/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

VK Paul, the head of experts on vaccines told Reuters that cold storage facilities between 2-8 degree Celsius can be maintained.

Paul added how four candidates are at the forefront in India. "The four that I can see, including Serum, Bharat, Zydus, and Sputnik need normal cold chain. I see no problem for these vaccines," he said to Reuters.

The world’s largest vaccine maker - Serum Institute of India, is currently mass producing Covidshield by AstraZeneca.

In addition, Bharat Biotech and Zydus Cadila are in the process of developing their own vaccines. In November, Indian pharma company Hetero made a deal with Russia for the procurement of 100 million doses of Sputnik V per year.

Paul also claimed that the pilot approvals for vaccine use are expected to happen “very soon”. "I am hoping at the earliest because we are ready." However, no price has been decided yet, but Paul expects a “fair and reasonable price”.

Indian regulators are currently considering three vaccine makers for emergency use - Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Bharat Biotech.

Pfizer’s high demand and limited stockpile will slow down its vaccine rollout in India. IN addition, it requires to be stored in -70 degree Celsius or below, which would make its usage in India difficult, for the infrastructure is scarce.

"In a theoretical scenario, where there is no vaccine with conventional cold chain requirement, minus 70 degrees Celsius capacities will have to be created, and we will do so," Paul said.

India is also in talks with Moderna - another major player in the vaccine race. Paul did add that the vaccines are not expected before later in 2021.

India's external affairs Minister S Jaishankar batting for the Indo-Pacific concept has said that it represents "a natural evolution... the evolution of India", a concept backed by Washington, several European countries, and ASEAN coming up with an outlook on it.

"Indo Pacific is an emphatic statement that doesn't artificially separate Indian ocean, and India from the pacific ocean and those countries. The world is much more seamless," Jaishankar&nbsp;said at the virtual event.

&nbsp;"Only a person in denial of globalization will actually contest Indo pacific and certainly an Indian who will understand our interest beyond the Indian ocean will see the logic of it," Jaishankar said.

In June 2018, the Indian Prime Minister had first elaborated New Delhi's point of view on the concept saying, it is not a strategy or directed at any country but stands for a free, open and inclusive region.&nbsp;

The comments by EAM comes even as Moscow has expressed its reservation on it. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov last week called Indo-Pacific strategy which is being promoted by the western countries as being "Anti China."

Beijing has always been suspicious of the concept, which sees Asia-Pacific being replaced by Indo Pacific and it might lose its dominance to India in the region.

Meanwhile, EAM yet again spoke on Chinese aggressive action at Line of actual control calling events of this year "disturbing" and raising "basic concerns" about how the "other party has not abided by agreements" on many things including amassing troops.&nbsp;

"What has happened is not actually in the interest of China.... it has significantly impacted public sentiments."

2020 has been the worst year for India-China ties due to not only build up Chinese forces at the LAC but also due to the aggressive action in Galwan valley due to which 20 Indian soldiers died. Despite multiple rounds of talks at military and diplomatic levels, the build by the Chinese forces continues.

An Indian-American is among the 18 astronauts selected by NASA for its manned mission to the Moon and beyond.

NASA on Wednesday named the 18 astronauts -- half of them women -- who will train for its Artemis moon-landing programme.

Raja Jon Vurputoor Chari, 43, a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, MIT, and US Naval Test Pilot School, is the only Indian-American in the list.

He was selected by NASA to join the 2017 Astronaut Candidate Class.

He reported for duty in August 2017 and has completed the initial astronaut candidate training is now eligible for a mission assignment.

"My fellow Americans, I give you the heroes of the future who will carry us back to the Moon and beyond: the Artemis Generation," Vice President Mike Pence said at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on Wednesday.

"It really is amazing to think that the next man and the first woman on the Moon are among the names that we just read. We started today reflecting on a great hero of the past. The Artemis Generation are the heroes of American space exploration in the future," Pence said after he introduced the members of the Artemis Team during the eighth National Space Council meeting.

The astronauts on the Artemis Team come from a diverse range of backgrounds, expertise and experience.

Most of the astronauts in the group are in their 30s or 40s.

The oldest is 55, the youngest 32.

The agency's modern lunar exploration programme will land the first woman and next man on the Moon in 2024 and establish a sustainable human lunar presence by the end of the decade, NASA said.

NASA will announce flight assignments for astronauts later, pulling from the Artemis Team.

Additional Artemis Team members, including international partner astronauts, will join this group, as needed.

"We are incredibly grateful for the president and vice president's support of the Artemis program, as well as the bipartisan support for all of NASA's science, aeronautics research, technology development, and human exploration goals," said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.

"As a result, we're excited to share this next step in exploration, naming the Artemis Team of astronauts who will lead the way, which includes the first woman and next man to walk on the lunar surface," he added.

The selected astronauts will help NASA prepare for the coming Artemis missions, which begin next year working with the agency's commercial partners as they develop human landing systems; assisting in the development of training; defining hardware requirements, and consulting on technical development.

They also will engage the public and industry on NASA's exploration plans.

"There is so much exciting work ahead of us as we return to the moon, and it will take the entire astronaut corps to make that happen," Chief Astronaut Pat Forrester said.

"Walking on the lunar surface would be a dream come true for any one of us, and any part we can play in making that happen is an honour," he said.

The other members on the list include Christina Koch and Jessica Meir -- the two astronauts who performed the world's first all-female spacewalk last year.

India's cultural diplomacy continues even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) organizing in-person concerts in Spain to celebrate the hundredth birth anniversary of legendary sitar player Ravi Shankar. It was the first-ever event under organized amidst the pandemic as part of India's cultural reach out.

The concerts which were organized in several cities of the European country got a huge response. In Madrid, 1200 people came to the concert in a hall that can hold 2500 people. Due to COVID-19&nbsp;protocols, a limited number of people were allowed but tickets saw massive demand.

Speaking to WION, ICCR Director-General, Dinesh K Patnaik said," In these difficult times ICCR and govt of India has not stopped its cultural diplomacy activity and continues to project country's soft power abroad"

Most of the people who were involved in the concert were disciples of Ravi Shankar. An exhibition has also been organized as part of the celebration, which has a number of his memorabilia like posters of his concerts, sitars he played and even the clothes he wore.

Expressing his "delight at the public response in Spain" on the activities, Patnaik said, "would like to thank the government of Spain, especially the federal government of Castile and León for the generous and amazing support they gave to the events".

Sitarist Ravi Shankar has been single-handedly responsible for bringing Indian classical music to the west and turned the world on to Indian music.

He is well known for many things, including the famous "Concert for Bangladesh" he organized alongside former Beatles Guitarist George Harrison.&nbsp;

The concert, organized in August, 1971 in New York's Madison Square Garden was to highlight the plight of refugees from the then east Pakistan. The concert, not only raised awareness about Bangladesh and atrocities committed by Pakistan but also became a model for future concerts for Charity Benefits.&nbsp;

The exhibition organized in fact has the token of appreciation given to George Harrison to commemorate the sales of more than one million dollars worth for the "long-playing record album Bangladesh". 2021 will mark the 50th anniversary year of the concert which coincides with the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Independence year.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, a limited number of people were allowed but tickets saw massive demand. Speaking to WION, ICCR Director-General, Dinesh K Patnaik said," In these difficult times ICCR and govt of India has not stopped its cultural diplomacy activity and continues to project country's soft power abroad" Most of the people who were involved in the concert were disciples of Ravi Shankar. He is well known for many things, including the famous "Concert for Bangladesh" he organized alongside former Beatles Guitarist George Harrison. The concert, organized in August, 1971 in New York's Madison Square Garden was to highlight the plight of refugees from the then east Pakistan. The concert, not only raised awareness about Bangladesh and atrocities committed by Pakistan but also became a model for future concerts for Charity Benefits.

The Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of&nbsp;Luxembourg to India Mr. Jean Claude Kugener has said that both countries are coming closer&nbsp;in a number of sectors from space to education to IT and green and sustainable economies. Speaking exclusively to our Principal Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Ambassador&nbsp;Kugener said, "I am convinced that there are also many ways of cooperation between #DigitalLuxembourg and #DigitalIndia. The country has Europe’s highest concentration of top-rated Tier IV datacentres”.

Last month Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Luxembourg's PM Xavier Bettel held a virtual summit, the first standalone meet between the 2 countries in the last two&nbsp;decades. The country will soon join the India-led International Solar Alliance initiative.&nbsp;

WION: What are the key outcomes of the recent India - Luxembourg bilateral Summit?

Jean Claude Kugener:&nbsp;The recently held virtual Summit between the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, H.E. Mr. Xavier Bettel, and the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, was the first of its kind and offered an excellent occasion to discuss bilateral relations and further strengthen the dynamic cooperation between both countries. The tangible outcomes are three MoUs that have been signed-in the context of this summit. The two agreements of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) with the India International Exchange (India INX) and the State Bank of India (SBI) aim at increasing the cooperation in the financial services industry with a focus on green and sustainable Finance. The third MoU signed between the CEO’s of Luxinnovation GIE AND&nbsp;Invest India will support and develop mutual business cooperation between companies of the two countries. Other planned MoUs in Space, Higher Education, and among the Regulators are being processed and will be signed in the coming weeks.

Prime Minister Bettel also announced Luxembourg’s intention to join the International Solar Alliance underlining the government’s commitment to promoting the use of clean energy. Both Prime Ministers also welcomed the institutionalisation of regular bilateral consultations between the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg. The Prime Ministers agreed that the bilateral relations have significantly evolved and diversified since the diplomatic relations establishment in&nbsp;1948&nbsp;and the opening of the Luxembourg Embassy in New Delhi in&nbsp;2002.&nbsp;The economic and trade cooperation between Luxembourg and India has been growing consistently. As per the Indian statistics, Luxembourg is the 15th Foreign Direct Investor in India compared to 16th in&nbsp;2018&nbsp;and 28th in&nbsp;2005.&nbsp;Both leaders have acknowledged the high potential to further deepen the cooperation in Trade, Finance, Steel, Space, ICT, Innovation, and Sustainable Development, among others.

WION: What are the other key areas of collaboration?

Jean Claude Kugener:&nbsp;In addition to the cooperation mentioned previously, our countries have a strong cooperation in steel, which is at the origin of the creation of the first Vice-Consulate of the Grand Duchy in Bombay in&nbsp;1929.&nbsp;In the 19th century, Luxembourg was the 6th largest cast iron and 8th largest steel producer in the world. Today the world leading steel and mining company ArcelorMittal, headquartered in the Grand Duchy since its merger in&nbsp;2006, currently develops its presence in India through AMNS, following its takeover of Essar Steel. The Paul Wurth Group, a leading player in the design and supply of technological solutions in the primary stage of integrated steelmaking, has been active in India for 27 years and has worked with many Indian steel producers over the last decades.

Allow me to highlight other Luxembourg companies which are also contributing to the “Make in India”: Ceratizit, which enlarged its presence in India through a new manufacturing facility in Karnataka last year apart from its existing operations in West Bengal, manufactures hard cutting materials for different industries or Rotarex in Mumbai producing high performance valves, regulators and fittings for all gas applications and currently expanding its presence in Navi Mumbai. The Luxembourg-Indian Joint Venture Amer-Sil Ketex in West Bengal is producing highly sophisticated gauntlets among others for the automotive industry for South Asia. They are the largest producer of Tubular bags in India. Our countries are also cooperating in Space and the Luxembourg company SES, the world leader in operational satellites, has partnered with ISRO for many years and is currently operating 5 satellites over India. The government decided to become a leading player in the space industry and the launch of the Luxembourg Space Agency in&nbsp;2018&nbsp;following the&nbsp;SpaceResources.lu&nbsp;initiative in&nbsp;2016, created an environment enabling companies to research and invest in space ventures with the aim of making them both economically viable and environmentally sustainable.

Today, Luxembourg hosts over 60 companies, public and private, active in the space sector. One of them, the Luxembourg based Kleos Space S.A. recently launched 4 nanosatellites into orbit through the PSLV C49 mission of ISRO. A cooperation in space which will further grow in the decades to come. Also discussed during the summit was our cooperation in IT, digital and the emerging technologies. The IT companies present in Luxembourg have been expanding over the last years and decades and the statistics talk for themselves. We also see this impressive evolution in the increasing number of Schengen visas that our Consulate in Delhi is issuing for Indian citizens working in this area. It is not without any surprise that our consulate ranked number one of all the Luxembourg consulates in terms of issuance of Schengen visas in&nbsp;2019.&nbsp;In this context, allow me to mention that Luxembourg is often referred to as a start-up gateway to Europe. The activities of #DigitalLuxembourg, launched in&nbsp;2014, range from Indutech to eco-innovation technologies to Health tech and offers a wide range of initiatives to assist start-up businesses. I am convinced that there are many ways of cooperation between #DigitalLuxembourg and #DigitalIndia.

The priority sectors in Luxembourg of the strategy Industry 4.0 (clean technologies and smart mobility, health technologies, space, logistics and financial services) have information and communication technologies as well as the use of data as their common denominator. They benefit from the country’s state of the art infrastructure for the data storage and handling, which includes Europe’s highest concentration of top-rated Tier IV datacentres and exceptional connectivity secured by very fast, ultra-low-latency connections. Widely recognised as a centre of excellence in cybersecurity, Luxembourg is as well at the forefront in fields such as electronic identification and the development of secure data lakes. Another area of cooperation, to name but a few, is Education as the University of Luxembourg has a number of MoU’s Indian Institutes of Technologies and various Universities which are in the process to be reviewed and renewed. I am delighted that we will see a stronger cooperation in this area as well in the years to come.

WION: And your cooperation in the green and sustainable economies?

Jean Claude Kugener:&nbsp;Our cooperation in this area is increasing and I highlight as an example the Luxembourg-headquartered company Boson Energy, which provides thermal treatment solutions that produce local clean energy from locally available fuels such as waste and biomass residue and is actively cooperating with the Clean Ganga project. Another Luxembourgish firm, Solarcleano recently exported its first solar panel cleaning robots to Mumbai. In our financial relations, sustainable and green finance is an area of cooperation which is going to be very promising in the coming years.

Following the COP21, the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) created the Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX) in&nbsp;2016, the world’s first and leading platform dedicated exclusively to sustainable financial instruments and as of today, it lists more than half of the sustainable green bonds worldwide. India is increasingly oriented towards sustainable finance and Luxembourg is a front-runner in this field. I was extremely pleased to welcome the CEO and Deputy CEO of LuxSE in Delhi in January as both intervened and presented Luxembourg’s leading role in sustainable finance at the Raisina Dialogue. The 2 MoU’s signed by the Luxembourg Stock Exchange with the India International Exchange and the State Bank of India are an excellent step in the right direction as green is going to be the future.

WION: How is a Luxembourg company helping with the Covid vaccine refrigeration?

Jean Claude Kugener:&nbsp;This new cooperation is another excellent outcome of the summit which results from the Prime Minister’s discussions. The Luxembourg-based company B Medical Systems, a pioneer in the medical equipment industry, is a global leader in the vaccine cold chain since&nbsp;1979&nbsp;and specialises in R&amp;D and the manufacturing of high-quality refrigerators, freezers, storage, and solutions for safe blood, vaccine, and other temperature-critical cargo transport solutions.

I had the pleasure to welcome the Deputy CEO of the company in September at the Embassy to discuss the company’s cooperation with India. On this occasion, M. Jesal Doshi, a Mumbai native, donated a refrigerator for the storage of critical Covid19 vaccines to the BYL Nair Charitable Hospital in Mumbai. Currently, the CEO, Mr. Luc Provost, and the Deputy CEO are in India to discuss further strengthening and new avenues of cooperation. Taking into consideration the timely important and crucial feature of vaccine refrigeration, I am extremely happy with the proactive response received from the various authorities, the continued assistance by the designated Ambassador of India to Luxembourg and of our colleagues at the Ministry of External Affairs following the Prime Minister’s discussions during the summit.

Exclusive: From space to education, India-Luxembourg coming closer, says country's envoy Jean Claude Kugener

Indian-American Rahul Dubey, who had opened the doors of his Washington DC home to over 70 people demonstrating in the Black&nbsp;Lives Matter protests has featured in TIME magazine's&nbsp;'Heroes of 2020' list.&nbsp;

The Black Lives Matter protests were held against the killing of a Black man, George Floyd.&nbsp;Floyd, 46, died in Minneapolis on May 25 when a white police officer pinned him to the ground and knelt on his neck as he gasped for breath. His death triggered nationwide violent protests with a section of the protesters resorting to looting and rioting across the country, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

TIME described Dubey as "The Man Who Gave Shelter to Those in Need."

On June 1, as demonstrators filled the streets of Washington DC to protest the killing of African-American Floyd, Dubey was home, not far from the White House.

After a 7 pm curfew, he noticed crowds in the street outside as "police had set up barricades seemingly to trap protesters, and were pepper-spraying those who remained. Dubey decided to take action, TIME said.

"I open my door, and I start yelling, 'Get in!'" says Dubey, who works in the health care sector.

Dubey said he gave about 70 protesters refuge in his home, housing them overnight to avoid curfew breaches.

A report in TIME said Dubey claims police officers made several attempts to breach his sanctuary that evening: posing as protesters trying to get inside, and attempting to intercept the pizza delivery he had ordered for his houseguests.

The move to open his door was driven by instinct, Dubey says nearly six months later.

For his act, Dubey had been hailed as a hero and saviour as those who took shelter in his house started tweeting about it.

In the 'Heroes of 2020', the publication also named Australia's volunteer firefighters who risked everything to keep their country safe, food-stall owners Jason Chua and Hung Zhen Long in Singapore who wouldn't let anyone go hungry during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor Reshorna Fitzpatrick and her husband Bishop Derrick Fitzpatrick of Chicago, who transformed their church to support their community during the trying year.

A newspaper deliveryman Greg Dailey, who began a grocery drop-off service in mid-March to anyone in need along his paper route and has since supplied more than 140 homes and conducted over 1,000 grocery runs in New Jersey's Mercer county, was also named by the magazine.

"From citizens providing food and shelter to those in need to volunteers who protected their neighbours from natural disasters, these heroes went above and beyond the call of duty in 2020," TIME said.

The prime minister's comments on Afghanistan come in the midst of renewed momentum in the Afghan peace process.&nbsp;
Top Afghan peace negotiator Abdullah Abdullah and several other senior leaders from the country visited India in the last few months to apprise about the peace process.

In his remarks, Modi also said that India wants to further intensify its development partnership with Uzbekistan and expressed happiness that many projects are being considered in that country under the Indian Line of Credit.

Uzbekistan is a key country in Central Asia which India considers as its 'extended neighbourhood'. The bilateral ties now encompass a wider canvas of cooperation including in areas of defence and security, trade and investment, energy, agriculture, education and science and technology.

Both countries are currently negotiating a bilateral investment treaty (BIT) and a preferential trade agreement. Last year, a pact was sealed providing for long-term purchase of uranium by India from Uzbekistan.

In his remarks, the prime minister also referred to cooperation between the two countries in key areas of defence, space and atomic energy sectors.

"Our security partnership is becoming a strong pillar of bilateral relations. Last year, the first joint military exercise between our armed forces took place. Our joint efforts are also increasing in the areas of space and atomic energy," he said.

Modi also said India was ready to share its expertise and experience with Uzbekistan as per its development priorities.

"India has great potential in areas such as infrastructure, IT, education, health, training and capacity building, which can be useful for Uzbekistan. The establishment of a joint working group on agriculture among us is an important and positive step," he said.

"With this we can find opportunities to increase our agricultural trade which will help the farmers of both countries," he added.

Modi also talked about cooperation between the two countries during the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is also a matter of satisfaction that during this difficult time of the COVID-19 epidemic, both countries have fully supported each other, whether to supply medicines or to ensure return of each other's citizens to home," he said.

"On the issue of India`s geostrategic needs in the IOR, General Rawat said: "We need to maintain strategic autonomy, cooperative relations with extra-regional powers, underscored by strong regional linkages that would provide us with a greater degree of strategic leverage."

"We need to build upon other and bilateral, trilateral and multilateral mechanism like `JAI` that is Japan, Australia, and India, like India-ASEAN and other already existing mechanisms to have the right balance in our strategic autonomy," CDS Rawat said.

"The economic centre of gravity is shifting and will continue to shift in this century. And with the major global supply chain passing through the region, Indo Pacific in general and Indian Ocean Region, in particular, will remain vital for transit and world trade," he added.

Summing up his address CDS Rawat said that "this is India`s century. Many across the world are bullish about India. It has the talent demographic dividend and vibrancy of the culture."&nbsp;
