Priya Prakash Varrier moves Supreme Court over case filed against Oru Adaar Love

Actor Priya Prakash Varrier and director Omar Luluhave filed a plea in Supreme Court over the case registered against her film "Oru Adaar Love"in Telangana.

Last week a complaint was filed against the director Omar Lulu.

The complainant allegedly claimed that thesong of the film ‘manikya malaraya poovi’hurt the feelings of the Muslim community. A case was registered under Section 295A.

Priya became an internet sensation after her teaser song from her debut film 'Oru Adaar Love' went viral on social media platforms.

However, as her presence was being noticed on social media, a Maharashtra-based group belonging to the Janjagran samithi filed a complaint against the actress and the director at Jinsi police station.

Samithi president Mohsin Ahmed had said: "This is a deliberate effort to hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims. We demand that a case under IPC section 295 of the IPC should be registered against actress Priya Varrier, director Omar Lulu and producers of the film."

The petition states that fringe elements have "misunderstood the lyrics of the song"which they claim allegedly offended their religious sentiments.

The petition said it adversely affected the petitioners right to life, liberty and freedom of expression under Articles 19(1)(a), 19(1)(g) and 21 of the Constitution.

Artists have the right to express themselves in a lawful manner, the petition stated, adding that the legality of the content of the film and the certification on the same can only be dealt with under law by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as prescribed under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.

FIRs cause nothing but "hindrance in the freedom of speech and expression"granted under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution and the same is an outright abuse of the process of law, the petition said.
