Delhi, sweltering in intense heatwave, was home to top 3 hottest places in India on Friday

India's national capital Delhi sweltered amid intense heatwave conditions on Friday (May 31) and occupied the top three hottest places in the country.
Mungeshpur emerged as the hottest place in the country after recording 49.6 degrees Celsius which was followed by Narela where temperature soared to 49.4 degrees Celsius and west Delhi's Najafgarh which recorded 49.2 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Sirsa district of Haryana emerged as the fourth hottest place in the country at 48.8 degrees Celsius. After this, Delhi's Jafarpur and Pusa emerged as the fifth hottest, recording 48.3 degrees Celsius.
New Delhi's base station Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius, which was six notches above normal, in comparison to 45.6 degrees Celsius recorded a day earlier.

The minimum temperature remained at 29 degrees Celsius which was two notches below normal. A day earlier, the minimum temperature was 30.4 degrees Celsius.

The humidity remained between 13 per cent and 59 per cent while the heat index or 'feel-like' temperature remained at 44 degrees Celsius, which was the same as the previous day.
The national capital has been battling scorching and severe heatwaves for seven straight days now. Friday marked the heatwave's sixth consecutive day as the city base station in Safdarjung matched a May 2013 record.
The year's highest and its second highest temperature were recorded by the station on Wednesday (May 29) at 46.8 degrees Celsius.
Sensor goof up in Mungeshpur temperature, says IMD
The automatic weather station at Mungeshpur earlier this week recorded 52.9 degrees Celsius which the IMD later confirmed was a sensor's error. The same area had earlier recorded 49.9 degrees Celsius.

According to the weather department, an incumbent western disturbance is likely to change weather from late Friday night (May 31) or Saturday (June 1). This has increased the possibility of some quick respite in temperature after a thunderstorm or very light rain.
The department had also issued a yellow alert for heatwaves in some isolated areas.
"There are chances of a drop in the daytime temperatures. However, some areas will still suffer heatwaves. Chances are the humidity will rise, which might increase the discomfort level during the daytime," an official at IMD stated.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to range between around 44 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung on Saturday (June 1).
