A Delhi Court on Monday (August 3) acquitted BJP leader and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Singh of the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers. The order of acquittal has been passed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Courts.
The judge also acquitted the co-accused, Vinod Tomar, in the case. The verdict had been reserved following extensive hearings involving the prosecution, complainants, and the accused. The proceedings were conducted in camera.
During the court proceedings, Senior Advocate Rebecca John appeared for the women wrestlers and Advocate Rajiv Mohan appeared for Brij Bhushan Singh, against whom the sexual harassment charges were framed against him in May 2024. However, he was discharged of the allegations brought by victim no. 6. In the case of accused Vinod Tomar, the court had framed charges under Section 506 part 1 concerning victim no 1, while discharging him of the remaining offences, the court noted.
Brij Bhushan Singh remains on bail
Earlier, the court had rejected Singh's request for further investigation in the case and for additional submissions regarding the framing of charges. He had argued that he was outside India on the relevant date. Singh remains out on bail alongside co-accused Vinod Tomar, the former assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India.

Delhi Police had filed the chargesheet against them under Sections 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 354A(sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, with section 109 (abetment) additionally invoked against Tomar. Separately, a cancellation report was registered in the POCSO case filed against Singh by a minor wrestler. The alleged incidents of sexual harassment are said to have taken place between 2016 and 2019 at the WFI office, at the official residence of Singh and abroad as well.
