The ongoing cyber attack on Taylor Swift has shaken the world. Every time you search for Taylor Swift on X and other social media platforms, what pops up are deepfake pornographic images of the celebrated singer much to the dislike of her fans and internet users in general. This attack has&nbsp;boldened the need to criminalise the practice in which artificial intelligence is used to synthesise fake but convincing explicit imagery.

Having started from Telegram and then to X, Taylor Swift’s search has been<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/dont-fret-its-not-your-fault-users-getting-error-message-on-x-when-searching-for-taylor-swift-684573"> littered with pornographic images of hers</a>. These images have now been removed from various platforms but only after they&nbsp;were viewed millions of times. In a statement, X said, “Our teams are actively removing all identified images and taking appropriate action&nbsp;against the accounts responsible for posting them.”

Meanwhile, calls for legislation that restricts online users from doing so have been growing. Yvette D Clarke, a Democratic congresswoman for New York, wrote on X: “What’s happened to Taylor Swift is nothing new. For yrs, women have been targets of deepfakes [without] their consent. And [with] advancements in AI, creating deepfakes is easier &amp; cheaper. This is an issue both sides of the aisle &amp; even Swifties should be able to come together to solve.”

Some individual US states have their own legislation against deepfakes, but there is a growing push for a change to federal law.

In May 2023, Democratic congressman Joseph Morelle unveiled the proposed Preventing Deepfakes of Intimate Images Act. This act aimed at making it illegal to share deepfake pornography without consent.&nbsp;

Republican congressman Tom Kean Jr said, “It is clear that AI technology is advancing faster than the necessary guardrails. Whether the victim is Taylor Swift or any young person across our country, we need to establish safeguards to combat this alarming trend.”&nbsp;

As for Taylor Swift, she is yet to respond to the whole matter.

Did we just access some unreleased versions of Lady Gaga’s hit songs this weekend? Listed under her real name, Stefani Germanotta, these unreleased versions of her hit songs made their way to streaming services, much to the surprise of her fans, who couldn't believe their luck.&nbsp;

<h2>Have you heard these unreleased Lady Gaga songs yet?</h2>

The three songs that sound like unreleased versions of songs we’ve heard before are purported different mixes or versions of two previously released songs – &nbsp;“Perfect Illusion” and “Fashion”. This also includes an unreleased 2007 song called "Retro Physical".&nbsp;

Fans who have done some internet digging claim that the 2007 unreleased song is a collaboration with producer Noize Trip which has been making the rounds online for many years. It, however, sounds a lot like a song from her 2008 debut album, The Fame.

The other two sound like early versions of the officially released songs. While the unreleased song which is called “Fashion” is listed as a demo, it plays as a slightly sped-up version of the Gaga song included on 2009’s Confessions of a Shopaholic soundtrack.&nbsp;

<h1><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hollywood/news-whats-in-the-grammys-luxury-gift-bag-this-year-its-valued-at-a-whopping-36000-684771">What's in the Grammys luxury gift bag? This year, it's valued at a whopping $36,000</a></h1>

Some even feel that these don’t strike them as leaks but the doings of Artificial Intelligence. Users speculate that they feel that the “Perfect Illusion” demo was made with AI.

The tracks were uploaded in late January, some nine days ago by a person called UnreleasedSongs. It also claims that they have the copyright to these songs. The songs are posted on Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal.

We wonder what Lady Gaga has to say about this.

Kevin Spacey has booked himself a Comicon appearance in a first. The actor has largely avoided any public engagement ever since he was named in sexual assault charges and lost a few projects on the way.

<h2>Kevin Spacey to make Comicon appearance</h2>

Making his comeback into showbiz with baby steps, Kevin has now booked his first comic book convention appearance which is set for February 16-18 at Mad Monster, the con held in Concord, North Carolina.&nbsp;

In a statement, Kevin said, “Amongst the many things that I’ve learned the past handful of years is how much my fans care about me. I know I can’t thank each one of them individually, but this is a great step towards doing just that.”

Organisers of the event have announced that Kevin Spacey will be present with guests to sign autographs and pose for photos. His autographs can also be bought by those not present at the venue.&nbsp;

<h2>Back after a break</h2>

The Oscar-winning actor left the entertainment world and paused after his name cropped up in several #MeToo charges as he was accused of sexually assaulting young boys. He was named in several cases of sexual assault as he engaged with them in late 2017. He was subsequently fired from House of Cards by Netflix. He also lost on the film All the Money in the World in which maker Ridley Scott had to reshoot with Christopher Plummer for his scenes in the film.&nbsp;

As for Comicon, Kevin is relevant since he starred in the 1995 film The Usual Suspects, the cult crime drama that resonates with corners of the comic con crowd, and in American Beauty (1999).&nbsp;

In addition to the career fallout, Kevin Spacey faced a whole lot of legal trouble but was acquitted of sexual assault charges in the UK. Kevin then took a break from Hollywood and started work in the low-budget indie world.&nbsp;

Good news for longtime followers of The Daily Show as Jon Stewart returned to hosting duties for the Monday show. After a thorough search for a new host, the Paramount Global network zeroed in on Jon Stewart to host on Monday nights through the 2024 election cycle. He is also responsible for running the programme in addition to hosting duties.&nbsp;

Jon is also expected to play an oversight role at The Daily Show that could extend through 2025.&nbsp;

He will begin his on-air duties on February 12. From Tuesday to Thursday, the network plans to bring an array of names. Jen Flanz, the current executive producer, will continue her duties on the show.

<h2>What the network had to say</h2>

In a statement, making the announcement, Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studio said, “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season. In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Jon Stewart also announced the same on his X account and said that he’s “decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility.”

Jon’s name came up like a breath of fresh air as Comedy Central looked desperately for a new host following the departure of Trevor Noah at the end of 2022. They tried out people like Leslie Jones, Kal Penn, and Sarah Silverman, but nothing stuck.

Halle Berry’s sci-fi film The Mothership planned with Netflix does not have a go-ahead anymore as the OTT giant has pulled the plug on it. The OTT giant announced that it will no longer release Halle Berry’s sci-fi film The Mothership even though it's currently in its production stage.

A major portion of the filming is already through but it still needs extensive reshoots to complete the film. Netflix decided not to go over budget and commit to those reshoots. They have instead shelved the film.

The Mothership was to star Halle Berry as a woman who discovers an extraterrestrial object in her home one year after the disappearance of her husband. Matthew Charman wrote and directed The Mothership as his feature directorial debut.&nbsp;

In addition to Halle Berry, the film also stars Molly Parker, John Ortiz, and Omari Hardwick.

This is not a&nbsp;new concept for OTT giants and studios since most recently, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to shelve Batgirl in 2022. The DC film had already completed shooting and was expected to arrive on HBO Max. The company also shelved the animated feature Coyote vs. Acme late last year.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, The Mothership had backing from MRC, the company behind last year’s Netflix Sundance acquisition Fair Play. Halle Berry and Danny Stillman executive produced The Mothership, with Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Automatik acting as producers.

While The Mothership won’t go on Netflix anymore, Halle Berry’s association with the streamer is still strong. She next has the Mark Wahlberg feature,&nbsp;The Union, with the streamer.

In a funny mix-up, Tom Hollander was confused for Spider-Man actor Tom Holland once and he had no reason to complain. The Pride &amp; Prejudice actor revealed the episode during his recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers when he accidentally was sent a massive Marvel bonus cheque in place of Tom Holland.&nbsp;

<h2>Tom Hollander was confused for Tom Holland</h2>

Tom Hollander said, “I was here first. But he’s enormously famous” and then recalled an episode when his agency once mixed up him and Tom Holland over email and sent Holland’s box office bonus for one of the Avengers sequels to him.

Tom Hollander said, “People in the accounts department of my agency got confused. We were with the same agency briefly. And it was a terrible moment. I went to see my friend who was doing theater in England. … I sat smugly in the audience just having done a BBC show for $30,000 … the interval came and I checked my email and I got one from the agency saying, ‘Payment slip for first box office bonus for The Avengers.’”

When he received the email, he thought to himself that he hasn’t starred in any Avengers film but he continued to open it. As he opened, Tom Hollander said, “It was an astonishing amount of money. It was not his salary. It was his first box-office bonus. Not the whole box-office bonus, the first one. And it was more money than I’d ever [seen]. It was a seven-figure sum.”

Tom Hollander has been an active part of films. His latest role is in Ryan Murphy’s anthology drama series Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, which is set to premiere on FX on January 31.

Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t think the recently released Oscars 2024 nominations list did Barbie dirty by not giving Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie nods. While many have called it a snub as Greta didn’t get the Best Director nod and Margot was omitted from the Best Actress list, Whoopi doesn’t agree. She said, "it’s not a snub."

On the recently aired episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg said, “Here’s the deal: Everybody doesn’t win. They’re not snubs. And that’s what I want to sort of point out.”

Defending her stance, Goldberg added, “It’s not the elites, it’s the entire family of the Academy who vote for best picture nominations. We all vote for best picture, everybody.”

<h2>What's the whole fuss about?</h2>

Barbie has earned a place in the Best Picture category but not in the Best Director and Best Actress lists. Whoopi added, “You don’t get everything that you want to get. There are no snubs, and that’s what you have to keep in mind: Not everybody gets a prize. … The movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting.”

Apart from the Best Picture, Barbie has also earned a nod for Ryan Gosling in the Best Supporting Actor list and for America Ferrera in the Best Supporting Actress list. After Ryan got to know about the nomination,&nbsp;he shared his disappointment over Robbie and Gerwig being left out of those two categories. In a statement, Ryan said, “There is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film.”&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hollywood/news-ryan-gosling-gets-oscar-nod-upset-with-overall-barbie-snub-by-the-academy-683086">'There is no Ken without Barbie': Ryan Gosling calls out Oscar snub for Margot and Greta</a>

Barbie released in 2023 and coincided with the release of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. Together, the films created mayhem at the box office and earned massive praise.&nbsp;

'Everybody doesn’t win, they’re not snubs', says Whoopi Goldberg on Oscars Barbie nominations row

From questions of race to identity issues, Miss Japan pageant winner Carolina Shiino has heard them all. The Ukrainian-born model speaks in impeccable Japanese but because she looks “too European” (as argued by many on social media), people aren’t too happy about her win. Even as she won the pageant and was crowned, Carolina was seen shedding a tear or two about all the challenges she’s faced on the way to being accepted as Japanese.&nbsp;

<h2>Who is Miss Japan 2024&nbsp;Carolina Shiino?</h2>

Carolina is a 26-year-old model who was born in Ukraine. She moved to Japan at the age of five and was raised in Nagoya. She is the first naturalised Japanese citizen to win the pageant. But she has raised many eyebrows,&nbsp;with people asking 'What does it take to be Japanese?'&nbsp;since she doesn't have the visual features.&nbsp;

Her win comes nearly 10 years after Ariana Miyamoto became the first bi-racial woman to be crowned Miss Japan in 2015. Back then, Ariana had a tough time being of mixed race as her mother was Japanese and her father was an African American. Cut to 2023, Carolina Shiino has no Japanese parentage.

<h2>Win raises identity crisis debate</h2>

As soon as the news of her win surfaced on social media, people started posting stuff like, "This person who was chosen as Miss Japan is not even a mix of Japanese but 100% pure Ukrainian. Understand she is beautiful, but this is 'Miss Japan'. Where is the Japaneseness?"&nbsp;

Another X user wrote, “If she was half [Japanese], sure no problem. But she's ethnically 0% Japanese and wasn't even born in Japan.”

Others said her win was sending the "wrong message" to others in the country. One user wrote, "I think that Japanese people naturally (would) get the wrong message when a European-looking person is called the most beautiful Japanese."

Meanwhile, Carolina, earlier last year wrote on Instagram that she "may not look Japanese", but her mind had "become Japanese" because she had grown up in Japan. On her win, she said that winning the Miss Japan 2024 title was "a dream". "Being recognised as a Japanese in this competition fills me with gratitude,” she added.&nbsp;
