In India, a recent National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) survey on mental health and well-being of students revealed that studies, examinations and results are major causes of anxiety among school students while over 33 per cent comply with peer pressure most of the times.

As per the survey, at least 73 per cent of students are satisfied with their school life and over 45 per cent of students are not satisfied with their body image. The NCERT surveyed over 3.79 lakh students from 36 states and UTs.

In this year's budget, the government of India took an initiative at a national level for mental health issues and awareness, which is extremely important in the post-covid era.

While presenting the Union Budget for the year 2022-2023, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a National Tele Mental Health Programme keeping in view of 'long Covid'.

Long Covid is the phenomenon of coronavirus-related ailments remaining in patients long after they recover. The government also informed about the rolling out an open platform for the National Digital Health Ecosystem.

The recent NCERT survey emerged to be quite encouraging as it attempts to understand the mental health of students who are going to be the future of the country.

The survey tells that a total of 29 per cent of school students lack concentration, while 43 per cent of students between classes 6 to 12 have mood swings.

The Manodarpan Cell of the NCERT undertook the task of conducting the survey to help understand the perceptions of school students on aspects related to their mental health and well-being.

It collected information from students across gender and grades, middle state (6-8) and secondary stage (9 to 12) between January to March 2022.

The NCERT said that the anonymity of participants was ensured by making the name column optional, allowing students the comfort, privacy and independence to respond.

The survey report released on Tuesday said, "Decline in satisfaction with personal and school life is seen as students shift from middle to secondary stage."

It added, "The secondary stage is marked by challenges of identity crisis, increased sensitivity towards relationships, peer pressure, fear of board examination, anxiety and uncertainty experienced by students for their future admissions, career etc."

India: Studies, examination and results major causes of anxiety among school students, tells NCERT survey

France's Caroline Garcia powered past Coco Gauff of the United States in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the US Open on Tuesday.

In-form 17th seed Garcia advanced to the last four of a Grand Slam singles event for the first time in her career with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 28-year-old will play Tunisian fifth seed Ons Jabeur in the semi-finals on Thursday.

"My head is buzzing, I can't describe how I feel," Garcia said after the win.

Garcia, who arrived in New York as the form player in women's tennis following her victory in the Cincinnati Masters, produced another composed performance to dominate the 12th seeded Gauff almost from start to finish.

"I always played very aggressive and the last couple of months I feel healthy again and I've been able to move and practice the way I want," said Garcia.

"I just go for my shots even when I'm stressed or when I don't feel it. The way to improve for me is to move forward and I just try to follow that way."

The Frenchwoman took control early on with two quick breaks to race into a 4-0 lead in the first set with Gauff looking struggling to settle.

The American teenager double-faulted in her opening service game to concede an early break, and then blasted a shot at the net long with the court wide open in the fourth game to gift Garcia a second break.

Although Gauff broke back in the fifth game to cut the deficit, Garcia held her remaining service games to take the set.

Gauff was soon in trouble in the second set, broken in the opening game to allow Garcia to build a 3-1 lead.

Despite Garcia's serving statistics -- she had first serve percentage of only 52% and finished with as many double faults (4) as aces -- Gauff was unable to find the crucial break needed to get back in the game.

The remainder of the set went with serve, Garcia securing victory on her first match point, when Gauff sent a backhand return into the net.

Remains of a female "vampire" dating back to the 17th century were reportedly discovered by a group of archaeologists from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland, Daily Mail reported.

The skeletal remains were found with sickle and padlock, which were some of the measures apparently used hundreds of years ago by those who thought that the dead would rise. A sickle, which is a sharp blade, was placed over her neck and a padlock was found on a toe.

It is said that the sickle would have decapitated the alleged blood-sucker monster when it sat up. On the other hand, the use of the padlock would have made it impossible for the beast to return.

These are some popular vampire slaying tricks, which are claimed to be true. Notably, similar anti-vampire burial methods were found in other graves in eastern Europe.

As quoted by media reports, Professor Dariusz Poliński said: "Ways to protect against the return of the dead include cutting off the head or legs, placing the deceased face down to bite into the ground, burning them, and smashing them with a stone."

Professor Poliński added, "[The sickle] was not laid flat but placed on the neck in such a way that if the deceased had tried to get up most likely the head would have been cut off or injured."

Magdalena Zagrodzka added: "This is a unique find. There has never been anything like it before."

There are several claims and counterclaims over the existence of vampires. While many call the legends of vampires unreal, some experts claim that vampires actually walked among us.

The First News reported and as seen in the images, the woman had a protruding tooth at the front of her mouth. That tooth might have made people believe that she was a vampire.

Haarlem, a beautiful Dutch city known for its outlying tulip fields, art museums and hofjes, will become the first in the world to ban meat adverts from public spaces to discourage consumption, Dutch News.nl reported.

Haarlem is pushing forward to reduce consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and it will prohibit the adverts from 2024 after the meat was added to a list of products deemed to contribute to the climate crisis. The ban was agreed upon last year and it was made official last week.

The report said that the advertisements will not be allowed on city buses, shelters and screens in public spaces.

Although, the move has led to complaints from the meat sector that the municipality is "going too far in telling people what's best for them".

The report mentioned that Amsterdam, Leiden and The Hague have already banned ads for flying, petrol-powered cars and the fossil fuel industry.

Haarlem GroenLinks councillor Ziggy Klazes, who tabled the motion, told the Dutch daily newspaper Trouw, "Meat is just as harmful to the environment. We can’t tell people there's a climate crisis and encourage them to buy products that are part of the cause."

Despite party leader Wopke Hoekstra's recent support for protesting farmers, the motion was supported by the Christian Democrats (CDA), the report mentioned.

CDA councillor Ron Dreijer told the paper, "We are more sustainable than the national party."

In response to the move, the meat sector said it was unhappy with the ban. The spokesperson for industry body Centrale Organisatie voor de Vleessector, told the paper, "The authorities are going too far in telling people what's best for them."

Notably, the meat sector came up with 'Nederland Vleesland', a campaign to promote meat eating as "a matter of taste" as well as an economic benefit.

For the first time in the United Kingdom, a white man will not hold one of the country's four most important ministerial positions—prime minister, treasury, foreign office and home affairs. After Liz Truss became the new Prime Minister, she installed her loyalists into top jobs.

While speaking on the condition of anonymity, a US official told the agency on Monday that Moscow's move shows that "the Russian military continues to suffer from severe supply shortages in Ukraine, due in part to export controls and sanctions." Although, there is no clarity over how much weaponry Russia intends to purchase from North Korea. When the US and Europe pulled away from Russia, North Korea sought to tighten relations with Russia. Recently, the Biden administration confirmed that the Russian military in August took delivery of Iranian-manufactured drones for the Russia-Ukraine war. The White House also said that Russia faced technical problems with Iranian-made drones, which were said to be acquired in August. We live in an era when bugs and creepy crawlies can spy on you. Yes, it's not a concept of a Hollywood movie. Insects can actually be used for spying, defence, search and rescue missions or for environmental monitoring in the future.

Recently, scientists came up with a system for creating remote-controlled cyborg cockroaches, which are part machine and part insect. They are equipped with a tiny wireless control module that is powered by a rechargeable battery attached to a solar cell.

The insects will be able to move freely despite the mechanical devices, ultrathin electronics and flexible materials.

Research published in the scientific journal npj Flexible Electronics on September 5 is an example to show the world how the use of cyborg insects is becoming a practical reality.

The cyborg can help while inspecting hazardous areas or monitoring the environment. But in order to make it a success, these robo-insects must be controlled by the handlers remotely for long periods of time.

It means it needs a rechargeable battery backup and highly advanced wireless controls.

In order to implement the plan successfully, scientists needed to develop a special backpack, ultrathin organic solar cell modules and an adhesion system. The adhesion system keeps the machinery attached for long periods of time and also allows natural movements of legs and wings.

To carry out the research, the team experimented with Madagascar cockroaches, which are approximately six cm long. They integrated these devices into a cockroach that has a limited surface area.

Using a specially designed backpack, scientists attached the wireless leg-control module and lithium polymer battery to the top of the insect on the thorax.

The report mentioned that the backpack was 3D printed with an elastic polymer and conformed perfectly to the curved surface of the cockroach.

Scientists also developed a special backpack, ultrathin organic solar cell modules, and an adhesion system that keeps the machinery attached for long periods of time while also allowing natural movements.

Kenjiro Fukuda, RIKEN CPR, the team experimented with Madagascar cockroaches, said, "The body-mounted ultrathin organic solar cell module achieves a power output of 17.2 mW, which is more than 50 times larger than the power output of current state-of-the art energy harvesting devices on living insects."
