New research reveals that more than 90% of vast floating 'garbage' patch of plastic in the Pacific Ocean comes from just six countries. The research specifies that most of the garbage patch is coming from overfishing in two countries—Japan and China. After analysis and proper sampling, a team of researchers with the Ocean Cleanup project and Wageningen University published on Thursday (September 1) their report in the Scientific Reports journal. The paper mentioned that the subtropical oceanic gyre in the North Pacific Ocean is currently covered with tens of thousands of tonnes of floating plastic debris. That debris is apparently dispersed over millions of square kilometres. The accumulation zone is referred to as the North Pacific Garbage Patch (NPGP). Previously, experts have noted how the garbage patch gradually becomes a sign of how the global ocean is impacted due to the widescale use of plastics and their discarding. The study noted that a large fraction of the garbage is composed of fishing nets and ropes. Meanwhile, the rest is mostly composed of hard plastic objects and fragments. There are times when plastic carries identifiable evidence of its origin, which helps the experts to find out the country from where the plastic has originated. In the new research, scientists analysed around 573 kilograms of dry hard plastic debris that was collected with help from The Ocean Cleanup organization in 2019. During the analysis, they found that more than a quarter of the fragments were from 'abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear' (known as ALDFG). The researchers were able to find out the country of origin of 232 objects. As per the study, the largest percentage is from Japan at 33.6%. China was next at 32.3%, South Korea at 9.9%, the United States at 6.5%, Taiwan at 5.6% and Canada at 4.7%. As per the calculations by the researchers, the trash in the NPGP was 10 times more likely to come from fishing activities. "Oceanic sources such as inputs from fisheries have commonly been attributed about half of a million tonnes [of plastic waste] per year, but this estimate which has been repeatedly cited over the years, was misinterpreted from an initial study dating back to the 1970s," the authors write in their paper. The incident was reported from Mahmudpur village in Unnao city. As per reports, local police arrested a man, who is identified as Ashok Kumar, along with his two sons. Here's what actually happened The man allegedly placed idols of Hindu deities in an agricultural field and claimed they had come from the earth. He wanted to earn money from common people. A senior police officer said that the three bought yellow metal idols online and buried them in their agriculture field. He later claimed that they had appeared there on their own. As quoted by the news agency, Additional Superintendent of Police Shashi Shekhar Singh said that the villagers were being told by Kumar and his two sons since Tuesday that following a dream they dug up their field to find the deities' idols there and now they want to build a temple there. Iran wants stronger guarantees included in the text put forward by the EU aiming to salvage Tehran's landmark 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Wednesday.

"We are thinking about how to reach a strong text on the issue of the guarantee, and to obtain stronger guarantees," he told a joint news conference in Moscow with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

"My colleagues are carefully examining the text of the American side," Amir-Abdollahian said of Washington's response to Tehran's suggestions on the EU text that was submitted on August 8.

"We want to reinforce in the text the idea that the International Atomic Energy Agency concentrates on its technical task and moves away from its political role," he said.

The United States had been adamant that Tehran cooperate with the IAEA to clear up suspicions about earlier work at three undeclared sites.

In June, the IAEA's board of governors adopted a resolution censuring Iran for failing to adequately explain the previous discovery of traces of enriched uranium at three sites not declared by Tehran as having hosted nuclear activities.

On Monday, President Ebrahim Raisi said reviving the atomic deal would be pointless unless the UN nuclear watchdog put an end to its probe of three undeclared sites in the Islamic republic.

The 2015 accord between Iran and six world powers -- Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States -- gave Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme.

Formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the agreement aimed to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon -- something it has always denied wanting to do.

But the US unilaterally withdrew from the deal under then president Donald Trump in 2018 and proceeded to reimpose biting sanctions, prompting Tehran to pull back from its own commitments.

Last week, amid rising hopes of a revived deal, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi in an interview with CNN rejected the idea of the agency closing its probe on the undeclared sites without receiving answers.

"When it comes to guarantees, resolving outstanding issues related to the IAEA is also of serious concern to us," Amir-Abdollahian said on Wednesday.

"If we can reinforce the existing text, reaching an agreement will not be far from being achieved," he added.

Earlier reports did not specify how many casualties the blast caused but WION's correspondent Anas Mallick had reported initially that at least 15 people were killed.

In a historic sighting, James Webb Space Telescope captured the first direct image of a planet outside of our solar system. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said that it is roughly six to 12 times the mass of Jupiter.

The American space agency noted that the showcased images from Webb science are in progress, and have not yet been through the peer-review process.

NASA said that the image, which is seen through four different light filters, shows how worlds beyond our solar system can easily be captured by James Webb's powerful infrared gaze.

It paves the way forward in space exploration and gives a peek into future observations that will reveal more information than ever before about exoplanets.

The judge added that the prosecution proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt. The announcement comes days after her husband, former Prime Minister Najib Razak, was jailed for corruption. Currently, Rosmah is out on bail but she will end up in jail if she loses appeals in two higher courts. Reports mentioned that she amassed hundreds of expensive Hermes Birkin handbags when her husband Najib Razak was prime minister. Birkin bags can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece. Her collection includes rare and expensive diamonds as well. News agency Reuters reported that police found 12,000 individual items of jewellery, 567 luxury handbags, 423 watches and $26 million in cash at properties linked to the couple. The probe mentions several details about the scandal and the US and Malaysian investigators say expensive jewellery was purchased for her from some of $4.5 billion in stolen funds, including a $27 million pink diamond necklace. Although, Rosmah has not been charged over 1MDB. Later, The Wall Street Journal reported that she spent at least $6 million between 2008 and 2015 on shopping sprees in London, New York and elsewhere.
