Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, reports have emerged that unknown Ukrainian hackers created fake accounts of attractive women to trick Russian soldiers into sending them photos, the Financial Times reported. The hackers then reportedly passed the images to the Ukrainian military. FT quoted Nikita Knysh, a 30-year-old IT professional from Kharkiv, who opened up about his journey of joining Ukraine's resistance when the Russian invasion began in February. Knysh told the FT that he went to the Kharkiv office of his old employer, the Security Services of Ukraine (SBU) and asked for an assignment in order to help his nation. But the fighting had left the city in chaos. He eventually created a team with other hackers and founded a group nicknamed Hackyourmom. He recruited other hackers and founded a group nicknamed Hackyourmom, which now consists of 30 hackers from across the country, he told the FT. Knysh last month said the group of hackers used fake accounts pretending to be attractive women to trick the Russian soldiers in Melitopol. There apparently used several social media platforms, including Telegram. "The Russians, they always want to f**k. They send [a] lot of s**t to 'girls,' to prove that they are warriors," Knysh told the FT. The hackers were trying to get images of the soldiers. FT report mentioned one of the instances when the Russian soldiers sent pictures. After analysing the image, the hackers could identify that they had been taken from a remote Russian military base, which was said to be closer to occupied Melitopol in southern Ukraine. The report clearly mentioned that all the claims can not be verified but when the Financial Times spoke to government officials and fellow hackers, it learned that photographs, videos and log files backed up some of his assertions. Using fake profiles of women, Ukrainian hackers duped Russian soldiers to help military: Report

Taiwan said a Chinese military reconnaissance drone entered its air defence zone on Monday, the latest incursion as relations between the two neighbours remains tense.

The drone, identified by Taipei's defence ministry as a BZK-007 vehicle, crossed into the southwest corner of the island's air defence identification zone (ADIZ) along with eight Chinese warplanes.

Taiwan's ADIZ is much larger than its airspace and overlaps with part of China's ADIZ and even includes some of the mainland.

China has dramatically increased incursions into Taiwan's southwestern ADIZ over the last two years, but the use of military drones is rare.

The last time Taiwan's military reported one was October 2020, one month after it started making data on the frequency of Chinese sorties public.

Monday's incursion came after Taiwanese soldiers on a tiny islet just off China's mainland shot down an unidentified commercial drone last week.

That was the first time Taiwanese forces have downed a drone, following a sudden spate of incursions by small, commercially available drones in recent weeks.

In contrast, the BZK-007 is a much larger, military drone built by the Guizhou Aircraft Industry Corporation that can carry out long-distance flights and boasts much more sophisticated reconnaissance devices.

Taiwan's 23 million people live under constant threat of invasion by China, which claims the self-ruled, democratic island as part of its territory to be taken one day -- by force if necessary.

Beijing's sabre-rattling has grown more pronounced under President Xi Jinping, China's most authoritarian and internationally assertive leader in a generation.

Last month China sent warships, missiles and fighter jets into the waters and skies around Taiwan, its largest and most aggressive exercises since mid-1990s.

Those exercises were a protest against a visit to Taipei by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Taiwan also saw a record 446 air incursions by Chinese warplanes in August.

Crossings by Chinese warplanes of the median line, an unofficial barrier between the two sides running down the Taiwan Strait, have also become near-daily since Pelosi's visit.

In 2020, China flew a total of 380 sorties, according to an AFP database using Taiwanese military reports.

By last year that jumped to 969.

So far this year Chinese planes have made at least 1,100 individual incursions into the ADIZ.

In a breakthrough, scientists have used laser flashes to make tiny diamonds out of plastic bottles and even suggested that it could be raining diamonds on planets throughout the universe. The research is published in Science Advances.

Scientists have used common plastic to recreate the precipitation believed to form deep inside Uranus and Neptune. The strange phenomenon of making diamonds could help to limit plastic waste on the planet also.

In the past, scientists theorised that extremely high pressure and temperatures turn hydrogen and carbon into solid diamonds thousands of kilometres below the surface of the ice giants. In the latest research, scientists have found that "diamond rain" could be more common than thought.

Dominik Kraus, who is a physicist at Germany's HZDR research lab, said that diamond precipitation was quite different to rain on Earth. Kraus is one of the study's authors.

The process of creating the nanodiamonds is not easy, it required extraordinarily high pressures. The research team found the necessary mix of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in a readily available source, PET plastic. For the unversed, PET is used for everyday food packaging and bottles.

Siegfried Glenzer at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in California and his colleagues found that by using the mentioned plastic, diamonds can be made in much less extreme conditions.

Kraus said that while the researchers used very clean PET plastic, "in principle the experiment should work with Coca-Cola bottles".

"Very, very short X-ray flashes of incredible brightness" allowed them to watch the process of nanodiamonds - tiny diamonds too small to see with the naked eye - as they formed, Kraus said.

"The oxygen that is present in large amounts on those planets really helps suck away the hydrogen atoms from the carbon, so it's actually easier for those diamonds to form," he added.

Experts believe that ice giants like Neptune and Uranus are thought to be the most common form of planet outside our Solar System. It means that strange diamond rain could be occurring across the universe.

The United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Liz Truss defeated rival Rishi Sunak to be named the new British prime minister on Monday (September 5). She succeeds Boris Johnson who was forced out following a string of controversies.

The United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Liz Truss defeated rival Rishi Sunak to be named the new British prime minister on Monday (September 5). She succeeds Boris Johnson who was forced out following a string of controversies. After the result was announced, Truss said, "We need to show that we will deliver over the next two years. I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy." "I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people's energy bills, but also dealing with the long-term issues we have on energy supply," she added. Truss is Britain's third female prime minister after Margaret Thatcher (Conservative, 1979-90) and Theresa May (Conservative, 2016-19). But the road ahead is not going to be easy as she has a mammoth task to address multiple crises that the nation is facing on different fronts. Surging energy prices At the moment, the UK is facing multiple crises. The economy is forecast to go into a long recession later this year with inflation at a 40-year high. The new PM will have to tackle the energy crisis and a productivity crisis as both have affected people's living standards. Britain's energy regulator announced that the power bills will jump 80 per cent to an average of 3,549 pounds ($4,188) a year from October. This will send millions of households into fuel poverty. Businesses are also at risk unless the government intervene and comes up with a solution. ALSO READ | Liz Truss elected new UK Prime Minister, beats Rishi Sunak in leadership race Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, supplies are down nearly 50 per cent this year. There are chances that Moscow will cut off all gas supplies this winter. Just like Germany, France and Spain, the UK also needs an urgent crisis plan. In a research note, Goldman economists said, "In a scenario where gas prices remain elevated at current levels, we would expect the price cap to increase by over 80 per cent in January (vs 19 per cent assumed in our baseline). (This) would imply headline inflation peaking at 22.4 per cent, well above our baseline forecast of 14.8 per cent." Inflation The Bank of England has anticipated that as the energy crisis intensifies, inflation will jump to 13 per cent. According to Citigroup, the nation could peak at 18 per cent in early 2023. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs warned that it could reach 22 per cent if the natural gas prices "remain elevated at current levels". At 10.1 per cent in July, Britain had the highest rate of annual inflation among Group of Seven advanced economies. High dependency on imported gas and a fast-weakening currency are some of the reasons for British inflation. In the last three months alone, the pound fell to almost 8 per cent against the dollar. This performance is worse than the euro or even the Japanese yen. If this scenario continues to worsen, it will make the imports of energy priced in dollars even more expensive. Authorities in Canada are searching for two men who are responsible for the brutal stabbing incident that killed 10 people and injured 15 others on Sunday (September 4) in the Saskatchewan province.

Authorities in Canada are searching for two men who are responsible for the brutal stabbing incident that killed 10 people and injured 15 others on Sunday (September 4) in the Saskatchewan province. The shocking incident happened in the sparsely populated indigenous community. Canadian Prime Justin Trudeau called the mass stabbing "horrific and heartbreaking." On his official Twitter handle, Trudeau wrote, "The attacks in Saskatchewan today are horrific and heartbreaking. I’m thinking of those who have lost a loved one and of those who were injured." Here's what we know so far about the incident How did the incident take place? In a statement, Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore with the RCMP Saskatchewan said that the first stabbing report came at 5:40 am (local time) in the James Smith Cree Nation. Minutes after that, they received reports and calls of other stabbings, at a total of 13 separate locations. The next hours emerged to be extremely chaotic for the authorities in the region as Saskatchewan RCMP sent out multiple alerts and updates on the stabbings. They also issued a Dangerous Persons Alert for Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. ALSO READ | Canada mass stabbing: 10 killed, 15 hurt in Saskatchewan province; hunt on for two suspects Who are the suspects? Blackmore also informed that the callers identified the suspects. After the initial probe, the police named the two suspects identified as Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30. Images and descriptions of both were also provided. However, no further details about their motive or the victims were given out. As per the reports and eyewitness accounts, the alleged attackers fled in a vehicle. The police said that the two men were seen travelling in a black Nissan Rogue. Were indigenous people the targets? The incident took place in the region which is sparsely populated by an indigenous community but the assistant commissioner said authorities believe "some of the victims were targeted by the suspects and others were attacked randomly." "To speak to a motive would be extremely difficult at this point in time," Blackmore added. In Canada, indigenous people account for less than 5 per cent of the entire population of about 38 million. Reports have claimed that they suffer from higher levels of poverty, unemployment and a lower life expectancy than other Canadians. After the incident, the police issued warnings as their bulletins urged people to report any suspicious people and to take precautions, including sheltering in place. They also warned against picking up hitchhikers or approaching suspicious people. One advisory read: "Do not leave a secure location. Use caution allowing others into your residence." Stabbing incidents in Canada The recent incident reminds the world of several other stabbings that took place in various parts of the country as Canada has witnessed similar incidents. In 2020, a gunman, who at one point masqueraded as a police officer, killed at least 16 people in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. In 2017, a man opened fire during evening prayers at a mosque, killing six people and wounding five. In 2016, a student killed his two brothers at home before opening fire at a remote community high school, killing two more people. In December 2014, a man killed eight people, including his wife, before killing himself. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Warnings are issued as South Korea is preparing for the most powerful storm in its history to make landfall early Tuesday. The weather agency in the country hinted that typhoon Hinnamnor could cause casualties.

The powerful typhoon is travelling at a speed of 24 km per hour. It is expected to make landfall southwest of the port city of Busan early on Tuesday (September 6). The experts have noted that the storm is to be even more destructive in South Korea than Typhoon Sarah in 1959.

A Bloomberg report mentioned that the oil refiners, chemical operations and the nation's oldest nuclear power plant started to take necessary precautions.

On Monday, strong winds and high waves pounded the port on South Korea's Jeju Island. Authorities in the country have raised the typhoon-alert level to its highest.

Han Sang Un, who is the chief forecaster at Korea Meteorological Administration, said, "We're now entering a phase where we have to minimize casualties." During a briefing on Monday Han also urged residents of southern coastal areas to remain indoors.

He added, "It's a massive typhoon with a 400-kilometre (248.5 miles) radius, which is big enough to cover Seoul to Busan. Most regions in Korea will experience intense rain and wind."

The administration noted that the typhoon is likely to impact Jeju at about 1 am (local time) Tuesday. It will hit the southern coastal cities at about 7 am (local time).

The Bloomberg report also further mentioned that the run rates of three reactors at the Kori Nuclear Power Plant were lowered to less than 30 per cent to prepare for the storm.

On the other hand, the liquefied natural gas traders said they expected delays to some shipments. Several other companies and industries took the necessary steps ahead of the typhoon's landfall. Some industries are to suspend production early Tuesday.
