Notre Dame Cathedral is set to reopen in Dec, five years after inferno. Here's its first glimpse

In the remotest areas of Alaska, the residents were not far away from Thanksgiving as frozen turkeys were tossed in the parts of the region off the grid by Esther Keim, who is leading the Alaska Turkey Bomb.

Keim, for the third straight year, flew a small plane low and slow across the rural parts of south-central Alaska and dropped frozen turkeys to those for whom the grocery store is inaccessible.

While growing up in Alaska, Keim had seen a family friend airdrop turkeys to her family and others during the holidays. At other times, newspapers were delivered by the pilot.

Nearly 25 years ago, her family had shifted to more urban Alaska.

Now, with the use of a small plane which Keim had rebuilt with her father, she recently started her turkey delivery mission after she found that a family had been living off the land.

“They were telling me that a squirrel for dinner did not split very far between three people. At that moment, I thought … ‘I’m going to airdrop them a turkey'," Keim said.

Keim's efforts had spread by word of mouth as well as through social media posts. She has been delivering 32 frozen turkeys this year to people who live year-round in cabins which have no roads.

Here's how Esther Keim makes turkey deliveries

Every year, Keim goes out making 30 to 40 turkey deliveries as she covers 100 miles from her base north of Anchorage towards the foothills of Denali.

At times, she even enlists “turkey dropper” for help. At other times, she drops the turkeys herself while her friend flies the plane.

At a time, Keim bought around 20 turkeys with the help of donations which were given to her by people through Facebook.

The turkeys are packed in the plastic garbage bags. “Luckily it’s cold in Alaska, so I don’t have to worry about freezers,” Keim said.

She reaches out to families on the social media platform and informs them about the impending deliveries.

“We won’t drop the turkey until we see them come out of the house or the cabin, because if they don’t see it fall, they’re not going to know where to look,” Keim added.

She said that she likes to drop the turkey on a frozen lake if it is possible because it is easy to locate.

“As far as precision and hitting our target, I am definitely not the best aim. I’ve gotten better, but I have never hit a house, a building, person or dog," she said.

Putin's daughter earlier owned a fashion brand and worked as a DJ in Russia, as reported in the media. It was suggested in the reports that Putin had tried to block her public profile ahead of the war. Ohio Governor and Republican leader Mike DeWine on Wednesday (November 27) signed a bill which restricts transgender students from going into multi-person bathrooms which match their gender identities.

The bill was signed under the "Protect All Students Act" in which Ohio K-12 public and private schools, colleges and universities are required to designate separate locker rooms, accommodations and bathrooms "for the exclusive use" of males and females, on the basis of their gender which was assigned to them at the time of their birth, in buildings of school and other facilities which are used to conducting school-sponsored events.

“It revolves around safety, security, and, I think, common sense. It protects our children and grandchildren in private spaces where they are most vulnerable,” argued Republican Ohio state Sen. Jerry Cirino, who had sponsored the bill.

Some people have been exempted from the new instructions, which includes people who assist children or someone with disability and school employees.

The bill also included exemptions in case of emergency situations. Schools are free to offer single-use and family bathrooms to pupils.

The examination of a sample brought from asteroid Ryugu in outer space turned exciting for scientists when they found it had life forms on it. However, soon the excitement died down when they found that the microbes on the sample had actually originated on Earth.

The sample was brought to Earth in 2020 after being gathered in 2019 during Japan’s Hayabusa2 mission.

Scientists treated the Ryugu samples with great care and kept them under strict contamination controls, limiting their chance of contamination.

However, researchers at Imperial College London still ended up finding signs of terrestrial life in the samples.

"We found micro-organisms in a sample returned from an asteroid. They appeared on the rock and spread with time before finally dying off," said team leader Matthew Genge of Imperial College London while speaking to Space.com.

"The change in the number of micro-organisms confirmed these were living microbes. However, it also suggested they only recently colonised the specimen just before our analyses and were terrestrial in origin," he added.

"Without studying their DNA, it is impossible to identify their exact type. "However, they were most likely bacteria such as Bacillus since these are very common filamentous micro-organisms, particularly in soil and rocks," explained the researcher.

"It was very surprising to find terrestrial microbes within the rock. We usually polish meteorite specimens, and microbes rarely appear on them. However, it only needs one microbial spore to cause colonisation," said Genge.

What does contamination of asteroid sample mean?

In a study titled 'Rapid colonisation of a space-returned Ryugu sample by terrestrial microorganisms', the researchers said that no sign of contamination was shown in the material, however, filaments of organic matter which looked like terrestrial microbes were found on the surface of the sample in a week after it was exposed to the atmosphere of Earth.

"It shows that microorganisms can readily metabolise and survive upon extraterrestrial materials. On Earth, there is abundant home-grown organic material available, but on planets such as Mars, extra-martian organic materials may support an ecosystem," said Genge said.

"Our findings suggest that space missions could be contaminating space environments. It also shows that terrestrial microorganisms are adept at rapid colonisation," he added.

"The fact that terrestrial microbes are the Earth's best colonisers means we can never completely discount terrestrial contamination. Most of the time, contamination is not a problem as long as you know its source. The problem comes when scientists attempt to claim that the 'pristine' nature of a specimen is evidence that features are extraterrestrial," the researcher further stated.
