As per government data released by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, Destatis, while the country's overall population expanded in 2021, the young population in Germany—those aged 15 to 24—fell to a record low.

Statistics compiled at the end of 2021 revealed that the total population of Germany had topped 83.2 million for the first time. However, just 10% of them were between the ages of 15 and 24, which was the lowest percentage recorded since current records began in 1950.

According to the data, this reached an all-time low of just 8.3 million people in the relevant age group at the end of 2021.

With the exception of 2015, the Destatis data shows that the proportion of young people has been declining since 2005.

According to the report, the extremely high fatality rates during the Covid-19 waves were the primary cause of this development.

Furthermore, the results show that in 2021, the average life expectancy for newborn boys in Germany will be 78.2 years, a decrease of 0.6 years, and for newborn girls it will be 83.2 years, a decrease of 0.4 years.

Despite reaching historic lows, Germany's youth population share of 10.6% is on par with the norm for the European Union, according to a Deutsche Welle analysis.

According to Eurostat data, Germany has a younger population than nations like Spain and Austria but far less than the Republic of Ireland, where young people make up 12.6% of the total population.

You must constantly keep your internet browser up to date, regardless of which one you choose. This week in particular, it's critical because hackers could compromise Microsoft's Edge browser. To stop their data from ending up in the hands of thieves, Edge users must likewise update. You shouldn't ignore this update either because it fixes a vulnerability.

On Monday, the popular internet browser Microsoft Edge was alerted to various vulnerabilities by the Indian government's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) (Chromium based). It noted that the problems affected Microsoft Edge browser versions before 103.0.1264.71 and assigned it a "high" severity level.

According to the advisory, Microsoft Edge has a number of vulnerabilities. These might give a remote attacker the ability to get beyond security measures and run arbitrary code or launch a denial of service (DoS) attack against the impacted system.

The advice described the danger and noted that similar flaws exist in Chromium Open-Source Software (OSS), which Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) uses.

These vulnerabilities exist for a number of reasons, including:

Use after free in Guest View, Use after free in PDF, Use after free in Service Worker API, Use after free in Views ,Insufficient validation of untrusted input in File

By sending the impacted device a carefully crafted request, hackers might remotely exploit these flaws.

The solution was also reported by CERT-In in its danger report. Users were urged to install the proper patches in accordance with the Release Notes for Microsoft Edge Security Updates.

Major issue hits Microsoft Edge, Indian govt issues a severe warning

At least 20 individuals perished as a result of lightning strikes in the past 24 hours in Bihar, according to government records. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, expressed sorrow over the deaths caused by lightning strikes from Monday evening to Tuesday.

About 150 kilometres from the state capital, in the Kaimur district, seven fatalities were reported; meanwhile, Patna and Bhojpur both reported four. Each of the following reported one death: Jehanabad, Arwal, Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Siwan.

According to a formal press statement, Kumar also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the deceased's surviving relatives and urged people to exercise caution in bad weather.

Over the previous 24 hours, light to moderate rain fell in a few spots over areas of the north-central, south-central, and south-east, according to staff members at the India Meteorological Department's Patna office (IMD).

The IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rain across the state till July 30.

Experts blame Bihar's location in relation to monsoon elements as well as the frequency of lightning strikes. One of the main causes of the frequent lightning strikes, according to them, is Bihar's location close to the Nepalese Terai region.

Twenty people killed by lightning in India in 24 hours

Officials in the Japanese city of Fukui have advised beachgoers to keep their distance from a dissatisfied dolphin who is suspected of biting swimmers. In an effort to ward off the cantankerous critter, beach attendants at the seaside in the central area set up an ultrasonic device on Wednesday, according to the city.

There is a sign alerting dolphin enthusiasts not to handle the pets. Since the beach's official summer opening on July 9, according to local media, there have been at least ten instances of dolphin bites that have been reported by lifeguards.

According to a local official who spoke to AFP, two occurrences involving men in their 40s who were swimming close to the neighbourhood beach led to calls to Fukui's fire department. Although there have been few injuries thus far, local authorities have issued a warning about "possibly catastrophic wounds."

"Dolphins tend to be considered cute, but if you approach wild dolphins carelessly, you might get bitten and injured," Fukui prefectural police cautioned in a Twitter post Monday.

"If you spot any, don't go near them," the police said, citing the case of a man who was bitten on the hand on Sunday.

According to Masaki Yasui of the tourism marketing department, the city believes that a single dolphin, who was initially spotted in April near the shore at a different beach, is responsible for the string of attacks.

We are aware that dolphins dislike having their back fin and the tip of their nose touched, among other body parts, said Masaki. He claimed that people had been trying to touch the dolphins in those regions, as evidenced by videos shared on Twitter.

People online are being inspired by the story of a man who never gave up and eventually landed a job at Google, his dream company. Tyler Cohen applied at the tech giant not once or twice, but a whopping 39 times. A man is currently rejoicing after being accepted at his 40th attempt after being turned down 39 times by his "dream company," Google. Tyler Cohen acknowledges that by continuing to apply to Google despite numerous rejections, he erred on the side of lunacy. On LinkedIn, he posted a screenshot of his correspondence history with the internet giant, which displays communications going back to 2019.

"There's a fine line between perseverance and insanity. I'm still trying to figure out which one I have, "said the San Francisco-based Cohen, who will presumably resign from his role as Associate Manager-Strategy & Ops at DoorDash to join Google.

"39 rejections, 1 acceptance," he added, alongside the hashtags # google # acceptedoffer # application and # noogler, which is Google's term for new hires.

Headstrong or crazy? Man lands his 'dream job' at Google in 40th attempt

In India, Alphabet-owned Google has relaunched Street View on Google Maps. This happened over ten years after the nation rejected the service because it lacked the required government security clearance.

The programme will be launched in ten locations at first, with a goal of reaching over 50 cities by the end of this year.

What is the Street View service from Google?

Through street-level photos, users of the mapping technology can travel the globe. The programme can be used to view well-known sites and landmarks, as well as identify nearby dining establishments, coffee shops, hospitals, petrol stations, shopping centres, public transportation information, and much more.

A bird's-eye view isn't always sufficient to get you where you need to go.Sometimes it helps to be on the ground in order to locate a destination or comprehend a confusing crossroads. Users will be able to scout the region in advance thanks to the Street View feature.

Users will be able to view the traffic conditions as well as a little-known shortcut to their destination thanks to one of the upgraded capabilities.

How should one use the Street View function?

Users in India can use Google Maps on their desktop or Android device, zoom into a road in any of the ten cities, and then navigate.

Users will have the chance to explore the neighbourhood by using the Street View feature, which will also provide information about nearby coffee shops and cultural hubs.

Afghanistan: Kabul's Karte Parwan gurudwara comes under bomb attack again

Scientists advising the World Health Organization (WHO) on monkeypox say the window is closing to stop its spread, with cases currently doubling every two weeks, raising concerns that it will take several months for the outbreak to peak.

WHO Europe has forecast just over 27,000 monkeypox cases in 88 countries by Aug. 2, up from 17,800 cases in nearly 70 countries at the latest count.

Making predictions beyond that is complex, scientists around the world told Reuters, but there is likely to be sustained transmission for several months and possibly longer, they said.

"We have to get in front of this," said Anne Rimoin, an epidemiology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

"It's clear the window of opportunity for doing so is closing," added Rimoin, a member of the WHO expert committee on monkeypox that met last week to determine whether the outbreak constituted a global health emergency.

A majority of committee members voted against the move and, in an unprecedented step, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared an emergency anyway.

Global health experts said action stemming from that declaration needs to be urgent, including increased vaccination, testing, isolation for those infected and contact tracing.

"Transmission is clearly unchecked," said Antoine Flahault, director of the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva, who chairs the WHO Europe advisory group. Jimmy Whitworth, a professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said he expected that cases would not plateau for at least the next four-to-six months, or until the those at highest risk of infection have been either vaccinated or infected. Sexual health organizations recently estimated that could be around 125,000 people in the UK.

Monkeypox has been a globally neglected public health problem in parts of Africa for decades, but cases began to be reported outside countries where it is endemic in May.

It generally causes mild to moderate symptoms, including fever, fatigue and the hallmark painful skin lesions, that resolve within a few weeks. Five people have died in the current outbreak, all of them in Africa.

Beyond Africa, monkeypox is spreading chiefly in men who have sex with men, putting sexual health clinics on alert for new cases.

"I remember clearly ... saying that 'I think I'm going to die,' because I can't eat, I can't drink. I can't even swallow my own spit," said Harun Tulunay, 35, a sexual health advocate who was hospitalized with monkeypox in London earlier this month but has since recovered.

'SUSTAINED TRANSMISSION'

While monkeypox is not causing large numbers of deaths globally, an unpleasant virus establishing itself in new populations is still bad news, scientists said.

Flahault's group has modeled three scenarios for the coming months, all of which include "sustained transmission," either between men who have sex with men; beyond these groups and possibly into more vulnerable populations, like children, or between humans and animals.

The latter scenario risks the establishment of a monkeypox reservoir in animals in new countries, as it has in parts of west and central Africa, said Flahault.

Ongoing transmission could also lead to mutations that make the virus more efficient at spreading in humans, scientists said.

On Tuesday, German scientists released a study ahead of peer review that found mutations in one of the 47 cases they sequenced that could help monkeypox spread in people more easily.

"The alarm bell was going off (in Africa) but we kept hitting the snooze button. Now it's time to wake up and do something about it," Rimoin said. "An infection anywhere is potentially an infection everywhere."

"An infection anywhere is potentially an infection everywhere." WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Share your stories and opinions with us here.

Monkeypox emergency could last months, with window closing to stop spread, experts say

A prominent Kremlin propagandist recently praised former American president Donald Trump's views on sexuality and advocated for Moscow to support him in the 2024 election so he may surprise the American government.

The renowned radio host Solovyov played snippets from Trump's mocking of "woke beliefs" being taught in schools and the military, including the LGBTQ perspective on sexuality and gender identity, on the most recent episode of the Russian programme "Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov." Solovyov defended Trump's views on the LGBTQ community in response, stating that he shared them with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Simply put, those are our guys," Solovyov said, as quoted by The Daily Beast. "There are obviously shared values and common understanding between Trump, Orbán, and Putin—but not between Trump and Zelensky."

For the government-owned All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, Solovyov has been a well-known presenter (VGTRK). Putin has given the host numerous honours for promoting Russian propaganda, including the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree in July 2022 and the Order of Service to the Fatherland in 2014.

According to the U.S. Department of State, Solovyov is "the most ardent Kremlin propagandist around" for spreading untrue assertions that "Ukraine is a Nazi state." He is also well known for his anti-Western and anti-Ukraine hatred and misinformation.

Trump, who is currently the front-runner in the Republican primary, is considering a bid for the presidency in 2024. In a programme on Tuesday, Solovyov used the term "krasavchik," a general term of fondness in Russian, to say, "Of course Trump is a beaut."

The host of Evening with Vladimir Solovyov added, "I am deeply sure that there would not have been a February 24 if Trump had been around." He was alluding to the day when Russia invaded Ukraine.

He claimed that during the meetings in December, when tensions were high due to a Russian build-up of troops on its border with Ukraine, Trump would not have acted as "disrespectfully as Biden and his staff."

Trump has frequently been charged with prejudice against the LGBTQ community. Just hours after taking office in January 2017, Trump deleted any references to LGBTQ+ concerns from the official White House website. According to the Human Rights Campaign, Trump has also chosen anti-LGBTQ judges and repealed Obama-era rules that shielded transgender and non-binary workers from workplace discrimination.

Andrey Sidorov, a guest on the programme and the deputy dean of foreign politics at Moscow State University, claimed that Trump might cause a "complete internal breakdown" in the United States and undermine a robust political system during the program's broadcast. Additionally, Sidorov told Solovyov that he thought Moscow ought to "if we could" assist Trump in 2024.

Trump is one of our guys, and he has to win the election: Russian State Television

Two brothers have been detained by police in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, after they allegedly vandalised 100-year-old "mazaars" with the apparent goal of stirring up communal unrest. The men, named Mohammad Kamal and Mohammad Adil, were discovered wearing orange headbands when they demolished the Qutub Shah's tomb, the Dargah Bhure Shah Baba, and the Jalalshah Baba on Sunday evening in Bijnor's Sherkot neighbourhood.

They also set the "chaadar" offered at the tomb on fire.

The incident was discovered after some bystanders saw the brothers on the rampage and called the police.

A sensitive scenario that may have escalated into a fight was avoided when the Bijnor District Magistrate and SP arrived on the scene and ordered to immediately begin the repair work on the three damaged graves.

The guys allegedly plotted to destabilise the atmosphere in the state, according to ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar.

The investigating authorities will also look into the fact that Kamal has visited Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, according to the information they have so far.

Other major agencies, besides the ATS, IB, and STF, are anticipated to question the guys.

Two brothers arrested in Uttar Pradesh for vandalising mazaars

A wildfire is devouring Slovenia, and as it spreads across areas that were once First World War battlegrounds, it is colliding fatally with explosive ordnance that is more than a century old. A bomb from World War I burst while firemen were working nearby, according to media reports.

Despite being struck by shrapnel, there were no serious casualties among the firefighters. Because there have been so many explosions, authorities have ceased keeping track of detonations and are now only noting those that occur close to roads.

According to local media sources cited by Vice News, President Borut Pahor and Prime Minister Robert Golob visited the western Slovenian district of Kras on Sunday, where a huge fire that had been burning for 10 days appeared to be under control. Golob announced efforts to cope with the fire's aftermath and steps to prevent similar-sized incidents in the future.

According to local media sources, the fire is currently under control, but it will need to be closely watched for a few more days to make sure it doesn't reappear.

(Europe's wildfire threat eases but blaze grows in Slovenia)

The sources also stated that there are only a few hotspots left in the northern portion of the fire zone, where tiny subterranean flames are exploding.

The conflagration, which has affected around 5,000 acres of land, is being fought by more than 1,000 firefighters and Slovenian military personnel. The area where the fire is currently burning was the scene of 12 battles during World War I. Huge quantities of explosives were used, and almost 200,000 people were killed.

The removal of the military weaponry from Europe will probably take a further 100 years. The task was already dangerous and will become much more so if the earth continues to heat up unabatedly.

Wildfires detonating 100-year-old bombs from World War I in Slovenia

Myanmar's junta lashed out Tuesday against international condemnation of the country's first use of capital punishment in decades, saying the four executed prisoners—two of them prominent democracy fighters—"deserved many death sentences." The executions announced Monday sparked condemnation from around the globe, heightened fears that more will follow and prompted calls for sterner international measures against the already-isolated junta.

But the military authorities were defiant, with spokesman Zaw Min Tun insisting the men "were given the right to defend themselves according to court procedure".

"If we compare their sentences with other death penalty cases, they have committed crimes for which they should have been given death sentences many times," he said at a regular press briefing in the capital, Naypyidaw.

"They harmed many innocent people. There were many big losses which could not be replaced."

The prisoners, who included a former lawmaker from ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi's party, had been allowed to meet family members through video conferencing, he said, without providing details.

The junta had previously rejected criticism from the UN and western countries over the death sentences.

'Extremely troubled'

Phyo Zeya Thaw, a former lawmaker from Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD), was sentenced to death in January for offences under anti-terrorism laws.

Democracy activist Kyaw Min Yu — better known as "Jimmy" — received the same sentence from the military tribunal.

The two other men were sentenced to death for killing a woman they alleged was an informer for the junta in Yangon.

The junta has sentenced dozens of anti-coup activists to death as part of its crackdown on dissent after seizing power last year, but Myanmar had not carried out an execution in decades.

After a chorus of international condemnation on Monday, including from the UN, the United States and European countries, there was fresh criticism of the junta on Tuesday.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) bloc, which has led diplomatic efforts to end the crisis, said it was "extremely troubled and deeply saddened" by the executions.

In a statement issued by current chair Cambodia, it accused the junta of a "gross lack of will" to engage with ASEAN's efforts to facilitate dialogue between the military and its opponents.

In Bangkok, hundreds of people staged a noisy protest outside the Myanmar embassy.

Some held photos of Ko Jimmy and Phyo Zeya Thaw alongside Aung San Suu Kyi as they chanted, "We want democracy."

And Malaysia’s foreign minister, Saifuddin Abdullah, slammed the executions, calling them a "crime against humanity."

He called for a review of the so-called five-point consensus agreed by Southeast Asian leaders last year aimed at defusing the political crisis in Myanmar following a coup.
