Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, established Friendship Day in 1930. Every year on August 2nd, he planned to celebrate Friendship Day. People were upset because they thought Hall had discovered a way to sell more greeting cards in the name of "Friendship Day." This notion quickly faded from people's minds. On July 30, 1958, this concept resurfaced in the minds of an international organization called World Friendship Crusade. On July 20, 1958, Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho had the idea of celebrating Friendship Day worldwide. Later, in 1998, the then-General-Secretary of the United Nations, Kofi Annan's wife, Mrs. Nane Annan, named Winnie the Pooh the world's Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations. Finally, on April 27th, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 30th of July to be an official International Friendship Day. Furthermore, the assembly urged people to observe this day in accordance with their traditions and customs.&nbsp;

All squadrons of MiG-21 to retire by 2025: Indian Air Force

Mountain climbers from Australia and Canada lost their lives this week while attempting to ascend mount K2—the second-highest mountain in the world—in the Gilgit-Baltistan&nbsp;region of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, according to officials from the two nations.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed Matthew Eakin's passing and offered its "condolences to his family and friends." On Thursday, drone video allowed for the discovery of his body.

The foreign affairs department of Canada confirmed that it was informed of the death of a Canadian in Pakistan in a statement. The only information given was that officials were "offering consular assistance to the family," citing privacy concerns as the main justification.

An earlier report from a Pakistani climbing authority and one from the Canadian Press claimed that a search party on K2 had finally found Richard Cartier's body, who vanished on July 19 after an unrelated incident on the same peak. Cartier, a seasoned climber, was 60 years old.

With the majority of climbers dying during the descent, where even the smallest error can cause an avalanche and prove lethal, K2, in the Karakorum Range near the Chinese-Pakistani border, has one of the deadliest records. Fewer than a hundred people have succeeded in climbing to the top. The highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, has been ascended more than 9,000 times.

Eakin’s devastated friends posted tributes on social media to honour him, saying his death was a huge loss to the mountaineering community. One friend, Felicity Symons, said about their 23 years of friendship: "I will always see your smile in the clouds. Rest easy, my dear friend, in the mountains you loved."

The passing of Eakin and Cartier was confirmed by Karrar Haidri, the deputy head of the Pakistan Alpine Club, which coordinates search and rescue operations with the military and government of Pakistan.

The two climbers were located between Camp 1 and Camp 2 on K2, according to a report published earlier this week in The Dawn, one of Pakistan's English-language publications. They both went missing on July 19 as a result of different accidents.

K2 is one of the coldest and windiest climbs in the world. Climbers must cross virtually vertical rock cliffs, climbing 80 degrees at some points along the route, while avoiding frequent and unpredictable avalanches.

Missing Australian and Canadian climbers found dead on mount K2

One syringe was used to administer the Covid-19 jab to more than 30 students in Indian state of Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, flagrantly violating the "one needle, one syringe, only once" standard. On Wednesday, a vaccination camp for pupils was held at Jain Public School, and an aspiring nurse was sent to administer the shots.

The nursing student's father saw that she wasn't changing syringes while the immunisation was taking place and raised an alert.

The nursing student defended himself by saying that he only needed one syringe to administer vaccinations to all of the classmates.

"I did what I was asked to do. The person who delivered the materials (vaccines and other kits) gave single syringe," said the nursing student.

Parents of every student who received a vaccination during the camp urged that the guilty be brought to justice.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed for negligence and breaking the "one needle, one syringe, only once" guarantee of the Central Government.

The District Immunisation Officer, Dr. Rakesh Roshan, who was in charge of dispatching the vaccination team, was the subject of an investigation.

"We have also informed the health department of the state government. Meanwhile, we have started taking samples of all students who were given vaccinated at the camp. Strict action would be taken against whoever will be found responsible of violating norms," said a district medical officer.

Over 30 Indian students vaccinated with one syringe, probe ordered

With reports of a potential hack from abroad, at least a dozen schools throughout New Zealand have received bomb threats that have caused significant inconvenience. As a result, several of the impacted schools&nbsp;spread across Ashburton, Dunstan, Geraldine, Greymouth, Kaikoura, Levin, Masterton, Queenstown, Rolleston, Takaka, Palmerston Northwere, and Whanganui, were either evacuated or locked down.

The disruption on Thursday came 24 hours after four New Zealand schools in the North Island cities of Gisborne, Thames, and Waikato received threats via threat calls that later proved to be fake.

Cherie Taylor-Patel, president of the Principals' Federation of New Zealand, told public radio station Radio New Zealand (RNZ) that she had discussed the incidents with the Ministry of Education.

"The ministry has said that their understanding is that this was actually a cyberbot coming in from overseas," Taylor-Patel said.

"Today’s incidents were really unexpected, unprovoked and really distressing for those communities involved," she added. "It’s not something that anyone is prepared for and it’s something that no one wants to&nbsp;happen."

Although the calls "do not appear to be a safety concern," the New Zealand Police stated in a statement that it was still taking the threats "very seriously." According to the force, officers "were making inquiries to discover the source of the fake calls."

According to reports up to this point, no explosives have been discovered at any of the institutions the calls were directed towards. Police in New Zealand are looking into the potential that the threats are originating from outside, according to Assistant Commissioner Bruce O'Brien.

Bomb threats cause disruption in schools across New Zealand

By identifying a body discovered long ago on Australia's Somerton Beach that prompted decades of debate about who the person was and why he died, forensic specialists have contributed to solving a nearly 75-year-old mystery.

Through DNA analysis, the body that had been dubbed the "Somerton Man" over the years was eventually identified. By identifying potential relatives, the forensic testing assisted authorities and researchers in reducing the number of possibilities.

The body of the deceased was discovered in 1948 on an Adelaide beach. He was wearing a suit and tie, and he had a cigarette on his collar that was only halfway lit. The tags on his clothing were ripped off, and he had no identification on him. For many years, people conjectured that the man was a spy and may have perished during a covert operation.

After years of searching, authorities discovered illegible handwriting that some speculated might have been coded, but no fingerprint matches were ever established.

Derek Abbott of the University of Adelaide and Colleen Fitzpatrick, a forensic expert from the United States, began working on the unsolved case more than ten years ago. Fitzpatrick employed DNA sequencing to create a family tree. That led to 4,000 potential relatives and ultimately connected Webb to one of them who was still alive.

According to Abbott, the case's resolution followed a period of waiting for technology to progress sufficiently to lead them in the proper direction.

After more than 70 years, identity mystery of Australia's 'Somerton Man' solved

On July 27, AIDS experts revealed that a fourth person had been “cured” of HIV. However, the risky operation for patients who were facing cancer may not provide much solace for the tens of millions of people who are HIV-positive globally. Ahead of the International AIDS Conference, which gets underway in Montreal, Canada, on Friday, the 66-year-old man, known as the “City of Hope” patient after the Californian facility where he received treatment, was told that his illness was in remission.

After experts reported in February that a US woman known as the New York patient had also entered remission, he is the second individual to be officially declared to have been cured this year.

He said in a statement: “When I was diagnosed with HIV in 1988, like many others, I thought it was a death sentence.&nbsp;I never thought I would live to see the day that I no longer have HIV.”

He is one of four patients who have been treated in this fashion, and he is the oldest. Timothy Ray Brown, a “Berlin patient”,&nbsp;was the first in 2007.

The cure is the “holy grail”,&nbsp;according to the president-elect of the International Aids Society (IAS), and it provides “continuing hope and motivation” for HIV-positive people. Because non-HIV positive donors lack the receptors needed for HIV to infect cells, scientists think it works.

The cure is the “holy grail”, according to the president-elect of the International Aids Society (IAS), and it provides “continuing hope and motivation” for HIV-positive people. Because non-HIV positive donors lack the receptors needed for HIV to infect cells, scientists think it works. The growing Chinese real estate crisis, which has put major developers in debt, has caused Yang Huiyan, the richest woman in Asia, to lose more than half of her wealth. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ms. Yang, the majority shareholder in Country Garden, the largest developer in China, had her net worth fall by more than 52% in one year, from $23.7 billion to $11.3 billion.

Her decline in wealth serves as a stark reminder of the nation's prolonged real estate crisis, which raises worries that it will eventually harm the country's financial system and funding sources.

The crisis started in 2020 when Chinese authorities cracked down on the industry's unsustainable debt, driving major businesses like Evergrande to the verge of bankruptcy.

When Yang Guoqiang, the founder of Country Garden, purportedly transferred his shares to Yang in 2005, she inherited her money from him. At the developer's initial public offering two years later, at the age of 26, she rose to the position of richest woman in Asia.

China's property crisis causes Asia's richest woman to lose half of her $24 billion fortune

In one of the biggest frauds on the open-source platform, a Chinese lady posing as a historian spent years creating alternate stories of Medieval Russian history on Chinese Wikipedia, inventing fictitious governments, battles, and nobility. Chinese author Yifan, who was conducting research for a book when he came across an article about the Kashin silver mine, revealed the swindle last month.

According to the Wikipedia site, the mine, which was found by Russian peasants in 1344, employed more than 40,000 slaves and freedmen and served as a notable source of income for the Russian principality of Tver in the 14th and 15th centuries as well as for succeeding regimes. The essay went into great detail to describe the construction of the mine, the geological makeup of the soil, and even the refining procedure.

Yifan believed he had discovered intriguing material for a book. He had no idea that he had stumbled onto an entire fictional universe created by a user going by the name of Zhemao.

She has published 206 entries on Chinese Wikipedia since 2019, each one fusing reality with fiction in a sophisticated strategy that went undiscovered for years and challenged the limits of crowdsourced platforms' capacity to weed out dishonest users.

Yifan was alerted when he investigated the sources Zhemao provided and ran the silver mine narrative by Russian speakers, only to discover that the pages or editions of the books she claimed did not exist. Her lengthy entries on ancient Slavic wars—conflicts that could not be located in Russian historical records—were likewise criticised by the people he contacted.

After a group of volunteer editors and other Wikipedians, including Yip, went through her prior contributions to over 300 articles, the scope of the scam became apparent.

Chinese woman spent years writing fake Russian history on Wikipedia

The US economy has contracted for the second consecutive quarter, a development that in many other nations would be regarded as an economic recession. In contrast, the US uses extra information to make that choice. But the shrinkage, which occurred at an annual pace of 0.9 percent in the three months leading up to July, has received a lot of attention as economic worries intensify.

The cost of food, gas, and other necessities is rising at a rate not seen since 1981.

Fears are growing that a recession is on the horizon, if it hasn't already, as the US central bank aggressively increases borrowing prices to try to cool the economy and reduce pricing pressures.

US President Joe Biden has attempted to persuade the public that the economy is still in good shape by pointing out that the unemployment rate remains at 3.6 percent and that hiring has remained strong in the face of declining public confidence.

The release of the report is crucial. Under the pressure of severe inflation and rising borrowing prices, consumers and companies have been struggling. In an effort to combat the worst inflation outbreak in four decades, the Federal Reserve hiked its benchmark interest rate by a hefty three-quarters of a point on Wednesday. The famously challenging "soft landing" that the Fed is aiming for is an economic downturn that manages to contain skyrocketing prices without sparking a recession.

Watch: US GDP shrinks by 1.4% in first quarter

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-gdp-shrinks-by-14-in-first-quarter-475070/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

Consumer confidence has been damaged by the inflation increase and the public's anxiety over a potential recession, and the economy is currently delivering frustratingly conflicting signals as a result. Additionally, as the November midterm elections draw closer, the unhappiness of the populace has lowered President Joe Biden's public popularity ratings and raised the possibility that the Democrats may lose control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Consumer spending is still increasing. However, Americans are becoming less confident: According to the Conference Board, a research organisation, their forecast for the state of the economy six months from now has dropped to its lowest level since 2013.

Fueling recession fears, the US economy shrank again in second quarter

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Chinese billionaire Jack Ma intends to give up control of Ant Group Co as part of the fintech giant's effort to win over regulators after a protracted crackdown. According to Dow Jones, the transfer of control by Ma might delay Ant's initial public offering by a year or more. The publication cited Chinese securities regulations that call for a suspension of public listings for businesses that have undergone a change of ownership.

Alibaba has not yet made any public comments about it. Before the bell, the company's US-listed shares were trading down.&nbsp;

Ma, a 57-year-old former English teacher who is now one of China's most well-known businessmen, has been the subject of government action that seems to have been taken to lessen his influence and the power of his firms.

Watch: Unconfirmed reports link Jack Ma to government probe, Alibaba's shares fall 9% in Hong Kong

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/unconfirmed-reports-link-jack-ma-to-government-probe-alibabas-shares-fall-9-in-hong-kong-476132/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

Since separating Ant's antecedent assets from Alibaba more than ten years ago, he has had control over the company. Over time, he transformed it into a corporation that now controls the Alipay payments network, which has more than one billion users, as well as a sizable microlending operation and an investment platform that previously housed the largest money-market fund in the world. If Ant went public, its value was projected to exceed $300 billion.

Ma is a towering figure at Ant, owning 50.52 percent of the company's shares through an entity in which he has a dominant position despite not holding an executive position or being on the board.

Some of the sources claimed that he may have given up control by giving up some of his voting rights to other Ant leaders, such as Chief Executive Eric Jing, so that they would then all have collective authority over the business.

According to a Reuters report from last year, Ant was looking into ways for Ma to give up control of and sell his interest in the leading financial technology company. Ant, a unit of Alibaba, has undergone a comprehensive restructuring by China after the country's regulators halted its $37 billion initial public offering in late 2020. After the cancellation, Ant, which Ma controls, started a regulatory-driven reorganisation plan that would transform it into a financial holding company.

Jack Ma intends to give up control of the Ant Group: Wall Street Journal

As per media reports, Unjected, a dating service designed for people who do not wish to get immunised against COVID-19, had important information about its entire user base compromised due to an error in the admin dashboard.&nbsp;GeopJr, a cybersecurity expert, recently contacted the Daily Dot and showed how the setup error allowed anyone with the right information to take control of the website.

As shown by GeopJr., the "debug mode" was activated when the site went live. This mode, which is used by software developers while the site is still being built, has a wide range of settings and features. The paper stresses that such a mode should never be activated by default in a deployed application.

The researcher was able to alter the website using these features in nearly any way, including by adding or removing pages, providing free subscriptions for premium services, or even wiping the entire database of post backups.&nbsp;

The site reportedly had 3,500 users at last count, and the administrator features allowed access to all of their data.Unjected appears to have high goals for connecting the unvaccinated community but has a limited user base.

Unjected not only offers dating services but also a "fertility" section where users can donate their semen, eggs, or breastfeeding. Users can also register for a "blood bank" by providing their location and blood type on a different portion of the website. The mRNA molecules used in the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are referenced in the branding for both the blood bank and the fertility services, which both claim to assist consumers in finding "mRNA-free" donors.

After the Unjected app was removed from the Apple App Store in August 2021 for breaking Apple's COVID-19 content restrictions, the Unjected website has since become one of the project's primary gateways. Android users can still download the app, though, as it is still available on the Google Play store, where it has received more than 10,000 downloads and has received reviews with an average rating of 2.5 stars.
