Denmark's government on Sunday said it would put legal limitations in order to stop the demonstrations involving the burning of the Islam's holy book Quran in certain circumstances, citing security concerns.

This move came after global condemnation over protests involving burnings and desecrations of the Quran in Denmark and Sweden.&nbsp;

"The burnings are deeply offensive and reckless acts committed by few individuals. These few individuals do not represent the values the Danish society is built on," Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said separately in a statement.

"The Danish government will therefore explore the possibility of intervening in special situations where, for instance, other countries, cultures, and religions are being insulted, and where this could have significant negative consequences for Denmark, not least with regard to security," he said.

"This must of course be done within the framework of the constitutionally protected freedom of expression and in a manner that does not change the fact that freedom of expression in Denmark has a very broad scope," the Danish government said in a statement from the foreign ministry, further stressing it as one of the country's most important values.

Several incidents involving the desecration of the Quran have elevated diplomatic tensions throughout the Middle East with the two Nordic countries. &nbsp;

The Danish government noted that the protests have "reached a level where Denmark, in many parts of the world across continents, is being viewed as a country that facilitates insult and denigration of the cultures, religions, and traditions of other countries."

It added that the "primary purpose" of some of the actions had been to provoke and "could have significant consequences."

Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday urged Sweden to take substantial steps to stop incidents related to the burning of the Quran, as per a Turkish foreign ministry source.

In a phone call, Fidan told his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billstrom that the continuation of such "vile actions" under the garb of freedom of expression was 'unacceptable', the source said.

Denmark to put legal limits on protests involving Quran burnings

A bomb blast on Sunday (July 30) in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province claimed the lives of at least 44 people and wounded over 200 others. The explosion hit a convention of the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in the Khar tehsil Bajaur district .

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly bomb blast, but as per local media reports, the local chapter of the Islamic State (IS) group has carried out attacks against JUI-F in the recent past.

The district emergency officer told Geo News that a local JUI-F leader was also among those killed in the blast.

The official confirmed the name of the deceased as Amir Ziaullah Jan.

As per local media reports, the explosion occurred at a place inside the convention and law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area.

While speaking to Geo News, JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah said he was also supposed to attend the convention but could not do so because of some personal commitments.

“I strongly condemn the blast and want to give a message to the people behind it that this is not jihad but terrorism,” said the JUI-F &nbsp;leader, adding that the incident was an attack on humanity and Bajaur, Dawn reported.

Riaz Anwar, the health minister for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said that at least 17 people who had sustained injuries in the explosion were in serious condition.

"I can confirm that in the hospital we have 39 dead bodies, with 123 wounded that includes 17 patients in a serious condition," he told news agency AFP.

"It was a suicide attack, with the bomber detonating himself in close proximity to the stage," he added.

<h2>Tent collapsed and trapped people trying to escape, recalls survivor&nbsp;</h2>

"The tent had collapsed on one side, trapping people who were desperately attempting to escape," AFP quoted Abdullah Khan, who tried to help the victims, as saying.

"There was utter confusion, with human flesh, limbs, and body parts scattered throughout the area, alongside lifeless bodies."

Sabeeh Ullah, a 24-year-old party supporter whose arm got fractured in the incident, said the scale of injuries was frightening. "I found myself lying next to someone who had lost their limbs. The air was filled with the smell of human flesh," he told AFP.

<h2>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemns attack</h2>

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif released a statement, strongly condemning the attack targeted at the JUI-F convention, saying that the terrorists aimed at the ones who advocated the cause of Islam, the Holy Quran and Pakistan.

“Terrorists are enemies of Pakistan and they will be eliminated,” he said, adding that elements involved in the incident would be meted out strict punishment.

Later he took to Twitter, now rebranded as X, and said that the enemies who were attacking the political parties showed they were against Pakistan’s democratic system.

On Thursday, after a meeting with United States President Joe Biden at the White House, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said her government was still deliberating on the BRI and announced a trip to Beijing in the near future.

"We'll take a decision before December," Meloni told US broadcaster Fox News in an interview aired on Sunday.

She further said that the issue required discussions with the Chinese government and within the Italian parliament.

Meloni further laid emphasis on her view that it is a "paradox" that while Italy is part of the BRI, it is not the G7 country with the biggest trade with China.

She said that this shows how it is possible to have good relations with Beijing without the Belt and Road.

Clashes in south Lebanon's restive Ain al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp claimed the lives of at least six people on Sunday, said Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah movement and security sources at the camp.

The fighting that erupted overnight between Fatah and Islamists in the camp, killed a Fatah commander and wounded four of his aides that later died due to their injuries.

An "Islamist from the al-Shabab al-Muslim group" was also killed and six others including the group's leader were injured, said a Palestinian source inside the camp on the condition of anonymity as per news agency AFP reports. &nbsp;

Later, Fatah released a statement confirming the death of commander Ashraf al-Armouchi and four of his "comrades" during a "heinous operation".

The statement further said the "abominable and cowardly crime" was aimed at damaging the "security and stability" of the Palestinian camps in Lebanon.

A Lebanese soldier was also injured, hit by shrapnel from "a mortar shell that fell in one of the military posts", the army said on X, formerly Twitter. As per reports, his condition was stable.

In a statement, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called the timing of the clashes "suspicious in the current regional and international context".

Mikati denounced "repeated attempts to use Lebanon" as a battleground for the settling of outside scores "at the expense of Lebanon and the Lebanese".

He warned his country was again paying a price as "an arena to settle foreign scores."

"We urge the Palestinian leadership to cooperate with the army to control the security situation and deliver to the Lebanese authorities those who compromise it," his statement added.

Dorothee Klaus, director of UNRWA in Lebanon, said in a message on the X messaging platform that the agency called "on all militant parties to ensure civilians' safety and respect inviolability of UN premises", adding that the clashes damaged two schools run by the UN agency.

A ceasefire was agreed upon from 6:00 pm (1500 GMT) during a meeting of Palestinian factions including Fatah, also attended by members of the Lebanese Amal and Hezbollah movements, a joint statement thereafter said.

In central Baghdad, the protesters gathered in the pre-dawn darkness at Tahrir Square.

"Yes, yes to the Quran!" shouted the protesters, mostly young men.&nbsp;

Some of them carried portraits of Sadr, who has a following of millions among the country's majority Shiite population and also exerts great influence over the country's politics.

Security forces cut two bridges leading to the high-security Green Zone where governmental institutions and foreign embassies are located.

The protesters made attempts to crash through before the security officials pushed them back after which they ultimately dispersed, an interior ministry official told news agency AFP.

As per the official, the demonstrators were making attempts to reach the embassy of Denmark.

Demonstrators burn Quran in front of Iraqi embassy in Denmark

A shooting that erupted in the parking lot of a Michigan shopping centre, injured&nbsp;at least five people,&nbsp;two of them critically, said the authorities.

The incident took place at around 1 am outside the Logan Square Shopping Center in Lansing, the ABC News reported citing Lansing Police Department.

The police said that the officers found a large crowd when they arrived at the spot with multiple victims who had sustained gunshot wounds.

As per the police officers, the victims were aged between 16 to 26 years out of which two were in serious condition.

The police are yet to ascertain the cause behind the shooting and the matter is under investigation.&nbsp;

As per local media reports, it wasn't immediately clear as to why a large crowd&nbsp;was gathered at the shopping centre when the incident took place.

The officials said that due to the size of the crowd, Lansing police requested backup from several neighbouring law enforcement agencies.

As per the police officials, several firearms were recovered at the scene and several people have been detained for interrogation, but no arrests have yet been announced.

Multiple agencies responded, "due to the number of victims and nature of the incident," the city said.

The city said that a 30-year-old man lost his life in the incident. It further said that multiple victims were being treated at a local hospital, adding that more critical gunshot victims were airlifted to other medical facilities.

The city said that the probe is still ongoing.

"We are heartbroken to learn of this terrible incident, and our deepest condolences go to the families of the young man who was killed and everyone who was injured," ABC News quoted the city as saying.

South Africa's radical leftist opposition party released a statement on Saturday calling on the leaders of China, India and Brazil to boycott the BRICS summit, which is scheduled to take place next month, in a show of support for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will also be skipping the summit.

Leader of South Africa's third-largest party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF),&nbsp;Julius Malema urged the remaining BRICS leaders to also skip the August 22-24 summit in solidarity with Putin, at an anniversary rally.

"We call on the president of the People's Republic of China, India and Brazil not to come to (the) BRICS summit in solidarity with President Putin," Malema said.

Malema further slammed the United States for "threatening" South Africa and for keeping forward demands to turn against Putin in exchange for remaining part of the landmark African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which grants duty-free access to most exports.

"They can take away AGOA and leave us with our sovereignty," the 42-year-old said, addressing a packed stadium of over 90,000 supporters wearing the party colour red.

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken extended steadfast support to Niger's ousted leader Mohamed Bazoum from Washington, and gave a warning to those detaining him that "hundreds of millions of dollars of assistance" was at risk, said the State Department on Friday (July 28).

Blinken called Bazoum for the second time in a few days to offer America's "unflagging support" after the leader was detained in a military coup, said department spokesman Matt Miller in a statement.

In another call to former Nigerien president Mahamadou Issoufou, Blinken expressed concern over the ongoing detention of Bazoum and that "negotiations to ensure constitutional order in Niger were at an impasse."

France suspends development aid and budgetary support to Niger

A blast at a firework warehouse on Saturday, in Thailand claimed the lives of at least 12 people and wounded more than 100, the news agency AFP reported citing a senior official.

The explosion in the town of Sungai Kolok in the southern province of Narathiwat is thought to have been caused by welding during construction work on the building.

"A warehouse storing firecrackers in Sungai Kolok exploded this afternoon, the latest number is nine dead and 115 injured," Narathiwat governor Sanan Pongaksorn earlier&nbsp;told AFP.

"The fire is now under control. Preliminary investigation suggests the cause is a technical error during the steel welding process, as the building is under construction," he added.

The footage shared by local media showed a huge plume of smoke engulfing the area and the devastation caused by the incident causing&nbsp;damage to local shops, vehicles and homes.

According to broadcaster Thai PBS, as many as 500 houses were damaged by the blast in the border town on the frontier with Malaysia.

"I was playing with my phone inside the house then suddenly I heard a loud, thunderous noise and my whole house shook," eyewitness Seksan Taesen, who lives 100 metres away from the warehouse, AFP.

"Then I saw my roof was wide open. I looked outside and I saw house collapsing and people lying on the ground everywhere. It was chaos." &nbsp;
