The police said that a 42-year-old woman was shot dead near her residence in Dabri area of&nbsp; India's capital Delhi on Thursday evening. The victim was identified as Renu.

The police said that Dabri police station received information regarding an incident around 8.45 pm.

"Around 8:45 pm on Wednesday, under the Dabri police station, we got information that a 42-year-old woman was shot dead near her house. The woman was identified as Renu. She was a housewife living with her family in the Vaishali colony area under Dabri Police Station," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harshvardhan.

The DCP further said that police had formed several teams in order to catch hold of the suspect. However, it was later found that the attacker had shot himself dead when the police reached his house to arrest him. The accused was identified as Ashish and was aged 25.

"We formed several teams to nab the accused. We identified him and when we reached his house, he shot himself dead on the roof of his house. We found the weapon with which he had killed himself," DCP Harshvardhan said.

The DCP further added that the two had met at a gym two to three years ago.

"We found that Renu and Ashish met in a gym nearly 2-3 years back. Further investigation is on,"&nbsp;the DCP added.

<h2>Issues had arisen in Renu's family over friendship with Ashish: Police</h2>

The DCP said that the police have yet to identify as to what exactly triggered the man to kill the woman and that the officers were investigating the matter and talking to the members of both families.

“What exactly triggered the man, identified by his first name Ashish, to kill the woman, Renu Goyal, before killing himself is a matter of probe. No suicide note was recovered on Ashish or from his house. We are speaking with members of both families, their relatives, neighbours and friends for clues that may help us find the reason behind the murder and suicide,” said DCP (Dwarka) Harshvardhan.

“It was not immediately clear who shot Goyal dead. The CCTV cameras were scanned. It was found that a man approached her and shot her from close range. Thereafter, he left. Through the human intelligence network, we learnt about her friendship with a man (Ashish) and that issues had arisen in her family over their friendship,” the Hindustan Times quoted Vardhan as saying.

Ending gender-based violence wherever it occurs has been a top priority for the President throughout his career, as a Senator, and as Vice President," the White House said.&nbsp;

"As Commander in Chief, he’s made clear that our one truly sacred obligation as a nation is to prepare and equip those we send into harm’s way, and to care for them and their families both while they are deployed and when they return home. The reforms implemented through today’s Executive Order do just that, promoting dignity and respect for those who serve by better protecting our servicemembers and making the military safer and more just," it further added.

The White House said that the order takes significant action to reform the military justice system by amending the Manual for Courts-Martial and its accompanying rules for Courts-Martial that include establishing the rules that will govern the new Offices of Special Trial Counsel (OSTC), the independent military prosecutors who will now decide, in the place of commanders, whether to prosecute covered offences such as sexual assault and domestic violence, child abuse, and murder.

As per the latest Pentagon data, there were nearly 8,942 cases of sexual assault involving military personnel that were reported in the year 2022, slightly up on the previous year.&nbsp;

US President Joe Biden signs order transforming way military handles sexual assault cases

After the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in the year 2021, the United States completed one of the biggest airlifts in history, with more than 120,000 evacuations. The Afghans who were rescued to safety were promised a home in the US, but as per a new report, the country has taken days and months to process their applications, and the people have waited so long that they are now being sent back to the realm of the cruel rule that they fled.

As per a CNN report, dozens of Afghans, who were informed that they were eligible to apply for the resettlement process as they had worked with the United States, have been forcibly sent back to Afghanistan from Pakistan, where they had escaped awaiting the completion of the process that they were assured by the US.

A man, who was waiting for his US visa, spoke of his predicament as to how he was deported and released at the Afghan border by Pakistani police this summer.

“They did not hand us over to the (Taliban) Afghan border forces,” CNN quoted him as saying. “They just released us on the border and told us to go back to Afghanistan. It was me, my four kids and my wife deported together.” He is now living in hiding in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Another anonymous Afghan, who also spoke from hiding, said, “So this is very, very dangerous, and it is very tough… How many people have been killed, had been tortured, have been disappeared?” The man, who is a former employee of a US contractor, said that the Taliban “will punish me, they will put me in jail. Maybe they will kill me? I’m sure they will.” He further added: “Still, we believe that the USA will help us. We believe we didn’t lose our hope still.”

After the Taliban's takeover on August 15, 2021, many Afghans were airlifted out of the country in a US-led operation. Thousands also fled across the border to the neighbouring country Pakistan, with often incomplete paperwork, after the United States issued guidelines that they should wait in a third country for their visa applications to be processed.

As per the State Department figures, approximately 90,000 Afghans have been resettled in the United States since then. However, many are on the backlog list of Afghan Priority 2 (P-2) or Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) applications that are waiting to be processed.

<h2>Afghans in Pakistan facing most acute situation</h2>

As per the human rights group, the ones in Pakistan are in the most critical situation as hundreds of Afghans have been deported from there in a crackdown against migrants after the recent political instability.

So far this year, at least 530 Afghans have been deported from Pakistan, CNN reported citing Haseeb Aafaq, a spokesman for volunteer group the Afghanistan Immigrants Refugees Council.&nbsp;

Aafaq said that the Pakistani authorities made no exceptions for pending US visa cases. “There is no differentiation. The authorities here do not even think about where you are from. If you are Afghan, you must be deported if your visa is not valid, whether you are SIV or P-2 or sponsorship cases,” CNN quoted him as saying.&nbsp;

Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Saturday made a shocking revelation saying that his son Nicolas was arrested on charges of money laundering and illegal enrichment in connection to a scandal related to Petro's election campaign.

"To my son I wish luck and strength. May these occurrences forge his character and may he reflect about his own errors," the president said. "As I affirmed to the attorney general I will not intervene nor pressure his decisions, may the law freely guide the process."

The president has vowed to make peace or surrender deals with rebels and criminal groups to put an end to Colombia's 60-year internal conflict, which has claimed lives of 450,000 people.

The police identified Algaba by the distinctive tattoos imprinted on his body and also his fingerprints. He was missing since last Tuesday (July 18).

According to local media reports, the body parts were dismembered cleanly suggesting that it could be the work of some professional.

The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the alleged murder of the influencer. However, as per the authorities, Algaba was killed over his numerous debts.

According to local media reports, Algaba was under “irrecoverable” debts that he had racked up with &nbsp;Argentina’s tax agency. Also, his firm, Motors Lettuce SRL,&nbsp;began bouncing checks less than a year after it was formed in the year 2018.

He had also left a note on his phone saying that he had lost a lot of money investing in crypto, La Nacion reported.

As per reports, he had also run into intense trouble with the Barra Bravas gang, that was involved in Argentina’s soccer scene. The gang had reportedly asked him to pay a $40,000 loan.

“If something happens to me, everyone is already warned,” he wrote in a message.

Algaba’s brother Rodolfo Pérez said that he was not sure if his sibling was involved with the criminal gang. However, he insisted that he was “not a scammer”.

“I’ve been here for three days and hardly sleep, thinking, breaking my head, how could this happen,” he said. “But I’m not going to sit still, I’m not going to do justice with my own hands, but I hope that justice will be done.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

United States President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden admitted to a federal judge on Wednesday that he received around $600,000 from a company that was backed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which in a way contradicted claims made by his father earlier that no one in his family had ever “made money from China.”

Hunter appeared in a Delaware federal court for the very first time and denied two misdemeanour charges of deliberate negligence to pay taxes after an intended plea deal was rejected.

Prosecutors said in their proposed plea agreement with Hunter that he received $664,000 from a "Chinese infrastructure investment company," according to the official court transcript obtained by Fox News.

Hunter then confessed to Judge Maryellen Noreika that he earned $664,000 from a firm he established in the year 2017 with the chairman of the CCP-backed CEFC.

"I started a company [in 2017] called Hudson West, your Honor, and my partner was associated with a Chinese energy company called CEFC," Hunter said.

"Who was your partner?" the court asked.

"I don't know how to spell his name, Yi Jianming is the chairman of that company," Hunter responded.

"$664,000 from a Chinese infrastructure investment company, is that one of the companies we've already talked about?" the judge continued.

"I believe so, yes, your Honor," he said, before adding, "I believe CEFC."

As per Fox News reports, in the year 2020, emails were obtained that Hunter Biden had written to Zhao Runlong at CEFC extending "warmest best wishes" to Chairman Ye further hoping to see the Chairman soon.

"I hope my letter finds you well. I regret missing you on your last visit to the United States," Hunter wrote in the attached letter, dated June 17, 2017. "Please accept the best wishes from the entire Biden family as well as my partners."

"We are all hoping to see you here again soon, or in Shanghai," he added.

<h2>Joe Biden denied the accusations previously</h2>

United States President Joe Biden had previously denied making any money from a Chinese company.

"My son has not made money in terms of this thing about, what are you talking about, China," Biden told then-US President Donald Trump during the October 2020 debate.

"The only guy who made money from China is this guy," Biden said at the time, referring to Trump. "He’s the only one. Nobody else has made money from China."

The US President again denied any wrongdoings this year after the House Oversight Committee unveiled financial documents that showed the members of the Biden family getting payments of more than $1 million from deals in China and Romania respectively.&nbsp;

"That’s not true," the president had said on March 17.

On Wednesday, the guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum in the presidential palace. Later, a group of officers appeared on state television and said that they had thrown Bazoum out of power.

<h2>Wagner group chief hails Niger's military coup</h2>

Mercenary group Wagner chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin, hailed Niger's military coup calling it 'good news' and also offered the service of his fighters to bring order.

As per news agency Reuters, a voice message on Telegram app channels associated with Wagner said that though Prigozhin did not claim any involvement in the coup, he&nbsp;described it as a moment of long-overdue liberation from Western colonisers.

"What happened in Niger is nothing other than the struggle of the people of Niger with their colonisers. With colonisers who are trying to foist their rules of life on them and their conditions and keep them in the state that Africa was in hundreds of years ago," said the message, posted on Thursday evening.

"Today this is effectively gaining their independence. The rest will, without doubt, depend on the citizens of Niger and how effective governance will be, but the main thing is this: they have got rid of the colonisers," the message said.

<h2>Niger coup condemned&nbsp;</h2>

The country's former colonial power, France and the West African regional bloc ECOWAS called for the immediate release of Niger President Mohamed Bazoum. They further urged for a return to constitutional order.&nbsp;

French President Emmanuel Macron said he was all set to support sanctions against the perpetrators of the "dangerous" coup, after his foreign minister said the power grab did not appear to be definitive.

"This coup d'etat is completely illegitimate," Macron told a news conference in Papua New Guinea.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also said that constitutional order should be restored.

United States Vice President Kamala Harris said that the cooperation with Niger's government was fortuitous on its "continued commitment to democratic standards".

A spokesperson for the US-UN mission released a statement saying that the United States also backs taking action at the United Nations Security Council to de-escalate the situation in Niger.

In its bid to prevent a disastrous spill, the United Nations on Tuesday released a statement saying that it had commenced the process of transferring one million barrels of oil from a super-tanker, that was rusting, off the war-torn country Yemen.

"The United Nations has begun an operation to defuse what might be the world's largest ticking time bomb," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement.&nbsp;

"A complex maritime salvage effort is now underway in the Red Sea off the coast of war-torn Yemen to transfer one million barrels of oil from the decaying FSO Safer to a replacement vessel."&nbsp;

Taking to social media, the United Nations resident coordinator for Yemen, David Gressly, said that the transfer of 1.14 million barrels of Marib light crude from the 47-year-old FSO Safer to the new vessel will most likely take "less than three weeks".

<h2>Success is far from certain, say experts</h2>

According to experts, factors like soaring temperatures, old pipelines and sea mines loitering in surrounding waters, pose a grave threat to the success of the operation.

"Because it is the start of the emergency phase of the project to remove the oil, we need to be very cautious," Sarah Bel, spokeswoman for the UN Development Programme, told reporters in Geneva.

The United Nations hopes that the operation, worth &nbsp;$143 million, will obliterate the risk of an environmental tragedy, that if occurs, will on an estimate cost $20 billion to clean up.&nbsp;

Considering the Safer's position in the Red Sea, a spill would also cost billions of dollars per day as it would cause shipping disruptions through the Bab al-Mandab Strait to the Suez Canal, and would also destroy ecosystems, coastal fishing communities and lifeline ports.&nbsp;

The Safer, which is a floating storage and offloading facility, has been tied up around 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the port of Hodeida since the 1980s.&nbsp;

Experts from the private company SMIT Salvage were called two months later to analyse if the Safer could resist the transfer operation.&nbsp;

Last week, the United Nations engaged in a symbolic handover of the Nautica to "the people of Yemen", though the shipping company Euronav will continue to assist it on the UN's behalf for at least six months.&nbsp;

The United Nations also released a warning saying that even if the transfer successfully takes place, the Safer "will pose a residual environmental threat, holding viscous oil residue and remaining at risk of breaking apart."

Disputes are also expected over the ownership of the oil and the Nautica.

But as per some people, the Safer crisis is a positive sign.

"I hope it will be the beginning of the peace process," news agency AFP quotes Fathi Fahem, the Yemeni business leader who first put forward the idea of a replacement vessel for the Safer two years ago, as saying.

In what United Nations calls one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, thousands of people have lost their lives in the battle in Yemen or from factors such as lack of food and water.

Yet clashes between the Iran-backed Huthis and the Saudi-led coalition have reduced sharply since a UN-brokered truce began in April last year, even though it lapsed in October.&nbsp;

UN's Gressly said in a conversation with news agency AFP that the collaboration over the Safer could help pave the way for an enduring ceasefire between Yemen's clashing parties.&nbsp;

"Any time that you have an initiative, a project, where all parties need to cooperate, it's a positive sign that can be used and built upon," AFP quoted UN's Gressly as saying.&nbsp;

"But there's much work to be done to achieve peace here, many issues still outstanding. This issue by itself won't solve those."

In a shocking development, the US Virgin Islands revealed new allegations against JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N) over the bank's ties to disgraced Hollywood financier and its former client Jeffrey Epstein.

Ahead of a trial scheduled on October 23, the US Virgin Islands wants a judge to make a declaration that JPMorgan participated in Epstein's sex trafficking and also barred law enforcement.

As per news agency Reuters, its filings include extensive details about the bank's alleged conduct, which included payments of more than $25 million to disgraced late financier's associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and also payments made to Epstein's victims.

They further also quoted an email from September 2012 by a senior JPMorgan executive to Mary Erdoes, who is now the bank's asset and wealth management chief, comparing another client's house to Epstein's.

"Reminded me of JE's house, except it was more tasteful, and fewer nymphettes," the executive wrote. "More like the Frick [museum]. Art was fabulous."

"Wow," Erdoes responded.

On the other hand, JP Morgan wants judges to declare that the US Virgin Islands should not be able to seek financial relief, and also its claim that the bank obstructed law enforcement be rejected.

The bank has already decried the US Virgin Islands for having a cozy relationship with the disgraced Hollywood financier, where the top officials, in exchange for gifts, gave him tax breaks and also renounced sex-offender monitoring requirements.

The DGCA said, “Accordingly 51 spot checks were conducted across 11 locations pan India, on the Boeing 737 and Bombardier DHC Q-400 fleet of aircraft, wherein a total of 23 aircraft were inspected and 95 observations were made by the DGCA teams."

“The findings were of routine nature and were not considered significant by DGCA. Suitable maintenance action was taken by the airline to address the findings in accordance with DGCA guidelines. As a consequence, Spicejet has been taken off the enhanced surveillance regime by DGCA,” the DGCA added.

<h2>SpiceJet to get $61 million infusion from top shareholder</h2>

Meanwhile, the Indian budget carrier SpiceJet said on Wednesday (July 12) that top shareholder Ajay Singh would infuse USD 60.85 million into the airline as it aims to return to full operations.

About a fourth of SpiceJet's fleet has been grounded amid a string of weak quarterly results and fierce competition in the sector. The airline is scrambling to raise funds.

The fund infusion for SpiceJet has come at a time when Indian budget carriers are looking to take advantage of the vacuum left by Go First, a crisis-hit rival airline.

SpiceJet has said that it will issue shares, convertible securities or share warrants on a preferential basis to Singh. The deal will also open up credit facilities of 2.06 billion rupees (USD 25 million) under the government's emergency credit line guarantee scheme.

Singh, who is also SpiceJet's managing director, holds a 50.6 per cent stake in the company.

"This investment will allow the airline to accelerate its growth plans and capture new opportunities in the market, grow its revenue and profits," Singh said in a press release.

As per BBC reports, three Olympic and Paralympic events, triathlon, marathon swimming and Para-triathlon will take place in the river and by the year 2025, three open-air swimming areas will be accessible from the quayside.

"When people see athletes swimming in the Seine with no health problems, they'll be confident themselves to start going back in the Seine," the BBC quoted Pierre Rabadan, deputy Paris mayor in charge of the Olympics as saying. "It's our contribution for the future."

The water quality of the river drastically declined in all these years due to industrial sewage and the sanitation demands of the growing population in the French capital.

The declining water quality affected the aquatic life to a point where in the 1960s only three species of fish were recorded in Paris.&nbsp;

Swimming in the Seine was banned in the year 1923.

"Up to now, the Seine has been the safety valve for the sewage system. If we didn't occasionally allow wastewater into the river, it would have backed up into people's homes," Colin-Canivez added.

"Now a tunnel will bring the overflow to the reservoir, where it can be stored for a day or two - the time for the system to settle down again. Then it will be drained as normal to the treatment centres," he further said.
