Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is all set to shuffle his cabinet, with the rejig of his front bench expected to take place on Wednesday, CTV News reported citing senior government sources.

As per reports, Trudeau, ahead of a subsequent trip to Rideau Hall, is holding private meetings with ministers in Ottawa, following the rumours of a scheduled summer shuffle emerged in the federal political scene for weeks.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Housing and Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen, and Minister of Official Languages and Minister Responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Ginette Petitpas Taylor were the ones who had called off the announcements, according to CTV News reports.

Following fierce political scrutiny of the ways in which government handles important issues like housing affordability, public safety, and policies concerning online platforms during the autumn and spring sittings, the minority Liberals are attempting to reset their messaging on a few hot files with this upcoming and potentially momentous cabinet shuffle.&nbsp;

Several ministerial announcements across the country slated for Monday were postponed over the weekend, likely to allow the cabinet members to come back to the national capital in order to consult with PM Trudeau prior to the cabinet shuffle. However, some ministers have continued to travel outside of Ottawa on Mondays, as per CTV News reports.

In case an election is called, it is expected that the ministers will have informed the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) of their plans to run again. Since the ones who specified they won't run again are the ones to be likely removed, the prime minister may be able to promote the ones that are the high-performing members of his backbenches to the cabinet before the next election, which currently is scheduled for the year 2025.

Carolyn Bennett, who is a longtime member of the Liberal Party and also the current Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, on Monday, announced that she will not seek re-election, making the downtown Toronto seat open for the upcoming election.

As per reports, Bennett said that she had previously met the prime minister and conveyed her decision to him.

<h2>Previous cabinet shuffle was in 2022</h2>

The last time when Trudeau changed his cabinet was in the year 2022 when he only switched Helena Jaczek's and Filomena Tassi's portfolios, reported CTV News.

That shuffle was the very first time when Trudeau had tweaked his ministerial roster since the elections that took place in the year 2021, when he significantly changed ministers in charge of crucial portfolios and the Liberals managed to retain power with a second minority government.

Many believe that Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino will be reassigned after being criticised for the way he handled the gun control legislation and also the transfer of serial killer Paul Bernardo.

Amidst calls from the Conservative Party for him to leave, last week, when reporters questioned if Trudeau still had confidence in him, the prime minister responded by saying that anyone in his cabinet "by definition has my confidence."

"I have an amazing team in Ottawa, and an amazing group of MPs right across the country who are committed to serving their country every single day," Trudeau said.&nbsp;

Excluding the prime minister, at present, there are 38 members in the gender-balanced cabinet.

The timing of this expected shuffle comes before an August cabinet retreat in PEI and the return of Parliament in late September, CTV News reported.

Billionaire Elon Musk faced an interruption in&nbsp;his drive to rebrand the microblogging platform Twitter to X when police arrived at the spot and halted the work.

As a part of the rebranding of the social media firm, on Monday, the iconic vertical Twitter lettering was removed from the company’s San Francisco headquarters when the local police department paused them from continuing the “unauthorised work,” as per The San Francisco Standard reports.

Only the letters “er” were left on one side of the sign with the bird logo at the time when the work was stopped.&nbsp;

The police officers on the scene said that the Twitter officials had a work order to pull the down the sign at the Market Street headquarters but the firm did not inform the security officials and the owner of the building.

“Police on the scene said someone with Twitter had a work order to take the sign down but didn’t communicate it with security and the property owner of the building,” the Standard added.

Amid the confusion the police were called, however, the officials later through their inquiry determined that no crime had been committed and that the incident was not a police matter.

"Officers assigned to Tenderloin Station responded to the area of 10th and Market streets regarding a report of a possible unpermitted street closure," The San Francisco Standard quoted a police spokesperson as saying in an email.&nbsp;

"Through their investigation, officers were able to determine that no crime was committed and this incident was not a police matter."&nbsp;

In a post on X, Musk said acquiring Twitter was to ensure freedom of speech as well as "act as an accelerant for X - the everything app."

"This is not simply a company renaming itself, but doing the same thing," Musk wrote, adding that Twitter had served its purpose and that it had evolved past its name.&nbsp;

"The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video," wrote Musk.&nbsp;

He also hinted at the big changes that were coming, including the transformation of the platform into a financial app.&nbsp;

"In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world. The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird," Musk emphasised.&nbsp;

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) parliamentarian Sanjay Singh was on Monday (July 24) suspended from the Indian parliament's upper house Rajya Sabha &nbsp;for the remainder of the monsoon session for "repeatedly violating directions of the Chair."

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar first called out Sanjay Singh for interrupting the proceedings of the House when it had taken up the Question Hour amidst demonstrations by the Opposition over its demand for a statement from Prime Minister on the violence in Manipur and an in-detail discussion on the issue.

After the house resumed proceedings at 12 noon, Singh came near the Chairman’s podium over opposition demands. Dhankar asked him to return to his seat. However, the AAP member kept protesting, and the Chairman named him.

Soon after the Chairman named Sanjay Singh, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal moved a motion demanding the Chair to suspend the AAP member, saying this kind of behaviour “is completely against the ethics and rules of the House.”

“Sanjay Singh should be suspended from the entire session of the House,” he said.

The Chairman then put the motion for approval of the House and said Sanjay Singh was being suspended for the remainder of the monsoon session of Parliament "for having repeatedly violated the directives of the Chair". The Chairman then adjourned the House till 2 pm.

His warning to Singh came after the AAP members were urged to take their seats as he briefed the House about the proceedings of the Business Advisory Committee.

AAP was among the opposition parties who demanded a statement from PM Modi in Parliament on the ongoing situation in Manipur and also an in detail discussion on the issue.

Dhankhar said he had received 27 notices under Rule 267. TMC leader Derek O’Brien sought to raise the demands of opposition parties. The Chairman cautioned him and adjourned the House till 12 noon.

The Opposition has rejected the government's proposal for a short-duration discussion.

The Monsoon session of Parliament began on July 20 and will continue till August 11.

The newspaper said that the massive demand for the first batch of online sales of shoes would help in potentially saving the company from having to take a big writedown on its remaining stock.

Adidas had stopped selling Yeezy shoes after it had cut ties with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West,&nbsp; last October after he made a series of antisemitic comments in interviews and social media.

Due to the now-defunct partnership, the highly profitable line hit first-quarter sales at the company by around $440 million.

However, the strong demand for the unsold shoes had suppressed fears at the company's headquarters that Ye's outbursts and a plunge in marketing in the recent past would have made the Yeezy brand too toxic, FT said, citing sources.

As per FT reports, the discussions on how much proceeds will be donated to individual charities are still ongoing, further adding that the company has chosen five charities in the US and China as a first step.

"Making donations of more than 8.5 million euros across the five charities has been discussed but no decision has been made," FT said, citing people familiar with the matter.

The final sum donated from the sales will be much larger as the company is willing to pay a significant share of its profits from the Yeezy inventory, said the report.

This year, the company had predicted a loss before announcing its intentions to sell leftover Yeezy stocks.

The commerce ministry on Monday released a statement saying that India and the United Kingdom have concluded the 11th round of negotiations for&nbsp;what is termed as a proposed free trade agreement (FTA). The statement further added that the next round of negotiations will take place in the coming months.

India and the United Kingdom are making efforts towards straightening differences on issues like intellectual property rights (IPRs) and rules of origin under the agreement, for which the negotiations began in January 2021.

"On July 18, the UK and India concluded the eleventh round of talks for the UK-India FTA. Technical discussions were held across nine policy areas over 42 separate sessions. They included detailed draft treaty text discussions in these policy areas," it said.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visited the United Kingdom on July 10-11 to participate in the 11th round of the negotiations.

The 12th round of talks is scheduled to take place in the coming months. The negotiations between the two countries for the agreement cloak as many as 26 policy areas/chapters.

Investment is being negotiated as a separate agreement (bilateral investment treaty) between India and the United Kingdom and would be concluded simultaneously with the free trade agreement.

Both countries missed the deadline last year due to economic and political crises in the UK.

The Indian industry is demanding greater access for its skilled professionals in the United Kingdom market and entry of Indian whiskey by removing conditions pertaining to the three-year minimum maturity&nbsp;period. The UK is also pursuing a significant cut in the import duties on Scotch whiskey. Britain is also looking for more opportunities for UK services in the Indian markets.

The bilateral trade between the countries has increased to USD 20.36 billion in 2022-23 from USD 17.5 billion in 2021-22.

The commerce ministry on Monday released a statement saying that India and the United Kingdom have concluded the 11th round of negotiations for what is termed as a proposed free trade agreement (FTA).

India and the United Kingdom are making efforts towards straightening differences on issues like intellectual property rights (IPRs) and rules of origin under the agreement, for which the negotiations began in January 2021. "On July 18, the UK and India concluded the eleventh round of talks for the UK-India FTA. Technical discussions were held across nine policy areas over 42 separate sessions. They included detailed draft treaty text discussions in these policy areas," it said. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visited the United Kingdom on July 10-11 to participate in the 11th round of the negotiations. During the several rounds of talks, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal also visited the United Kingdom. He met with senior UK trade officials and took stock of the progress made in the 11th round of negotiations. The 12th round of talks is scheduled to take place in the coming months. The negotiations between the two countries for the agreement cloak as many as 26 policy areas/chapters. Investment is being negotiated as a separate agreement (bilateral investment treaty) between India and the United Kingdom and would be concluded simultaneously with the free trade agreement. Both countries missed the deadline last year due to economic and political crises in the UK. The Indian industry is demanding greater access for its skilled professionals in the United Kingdom market and entry of Indian whiskey by removing conditions pertaining to the three-year minimum maturity period. The UK is also pursuing a significant cut in the import duties on Scotch whiskey. Britain is also looking for more opportunities for UK services in the Indian markets. The bilateral trade between the countries has increased to USD 20.36 billion in 2022-23 from USD 17.5 billion in 2021-22. Tesla has expressed an interest in building a factory in India that would produce low-cost electric vehicles (EVs) for the local market and for export, the person said, adding that the company had indicated that it would be for the new vehicle.

The discussions represent a sharp reversal for the company after efforts last year to reduce import taxes on EVs shipped to India were scuppered by calls from government officials to commit to making cars locally.

The meeting with the commerce minister would be the highest level discussions between Tesla and the Indian government since June when Elon Musk met India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he intended to make a significant investment in the country.

The 2 million rupee ($24,000) EV Tesla representatives were said to have described in discussions about a potential Indian plant would be 25% cheaper than its current lowest priced offering, the Model 3 sedan which sells for the equivalent of just over $32,200 in China.

The $24,000 target price for the new Tesla vehicle was reported earlier this month by The Times of India newspaper.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Electric vehicles currently account for less than 2% of total vehicle sales in India, now the world’s third largest auto market.

Reuters reported in May that Tesla executives visited India and held talks with officials on establishing a manufacturing base for cars and batteries in India.

Discussions with Indian government officials in New Delhi are scheduled to resume this month, two people with knowledge of the talks, who asked not to be named because the discussions remain private, told Reuters.

As part of that, Tesla representatives are set to meet Indian commerce minister Piyush Goyal, the first person said, and discussions are expected to centre around setting up an EV supply chain and discussing land allotment for a factory.

The commerce ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

Tesla has aggressively discounted its existing models since the start of the year while Musk has repeatedly said its long-term success will hinge on bringing down the cost of EVs sharply.

Tesla has said its next-generation vehicle platform will slash production costs by 50% and that multiple models - including an automated "robotaxi" - could be built from it, without detailing what those future models will be or their pricing.

A Tesla plant under construction in Mexico will produce vehicles on that lower-cost, high-volume platform, which the company has said it said it will take to other factories as well.

Tesla currently produces EVs in California and Texas. Outside North America, it has plants in Berlin and Shanghai.

The Shanghai plant is Tesla's largest, accounting for almost 40% of the automaker's global capacity. Plans to add additional capacity there are pending regulatory approval.

Counter-terror officers "investigating alleged membership of a proscribed organisation" arrested both men last Monday, the Met added.&nbsp;

Officers arrested Choudary in east London and detained Hussein at Heathrow Airport after he arrived on a flight.&nbsp;

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring presided over the Westminster Magistrates' Court hearing and remanded both men in custody to appear at the Old Bailey court in London on August 4.

“On Monday, 17 July, Met counter-terrorism detectives investigating alleged membership of a proscribed organisation arrested a 56-year-old man in east London and a 28-year-old Canadian national at Heathrow Airport, after he arrived on a flight,” the Met Police said in a statement earlier.

“They were held under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and detectives were granted warrants of further detention allowing them to detain the men until Monday, 24 July,” the statement added.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) told the court on Monday that Choudary spoke to small groups online from June 2022 until his arrest, and gave lectures on the establishment of an Islamic State in Britain.

As per reports, co-accused Hussein effectively worked for Choudary in Canada.

“The charges relate to the proscribed organisation Al Muhajiroun, also known as the Islamic Thinkers Society. Criminal proceedings against Mr Choudary and Mr Hussein are now active and they each have the right to a fair trial,” said Nick Price, from the CPS Counter Terrorism Division.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings. The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges for a criminal court to consider,” he said. &nbsp;

"We are experiencing, here and in many countries, extreme climatic events: on the one hand, various regions are affected by abnormal heat waves and devastating fires; on the other, in many places, there are cloudbursts and floods, such as those that have scourged South Korea in recent days: I am close to those who are suffering and to those who are assisting the victims and the displaced," he said.

"Please, I renew my appeal to world leaders to do something more concrete to limit polluting emissions," the Pope said at the end of his Angelus message to crowds in St. Peter's Square.

"It is an urgent challenge, it cannot be postponed, and it concerns everyone. Let us protect our common home," the pope added.

He then called on the world to speedily ditch fossil fuels and also made the protection of the environment a basis of his pontificate. He noted in his landmark 2015 "Laudato Si" (Praised Be) encyclical that the planet was "beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth".

The pope in his address also expressed solidarity with the ones severely affected by the climate crisis and the ones lending a helping hand to them.

At least 1,500 of those evacuated from areas of Kiotari and Lardos, in the southeastern part of the popular Mediterranean island, were taken to a safe beach, said the coastguard. Furthermore, those evacuated are being housed at an indoor stadium and at hotels on the island, said Konstantinos Taraslias, a deputy mayor of Rhodes.&nbsp;

Pope Francis urges world leaders to make conscious efforts to tackle climate change

Nearly a thousand protesters took to the streets in Baghdad at the call of Muslim cleric Moqtada Sadr, on Saturday, who then attempted a demonstration by marching to Baghdad's Green Zone housing foreign embassies.

The demonstration was arranged in response to an apparent desecration of the Muslim holy book.

On Friday, the extreme right group Danske Patrioter posted a video of a man burning what seemed to be a Quran on its Facebook page.

Copenhagen police deputy chief Trine Fisker told news agency AFP that "not more than a handful" of protesters had gathered Friday across from the Iraqi embassy.

"I can also confirm there was a book burnt. We do not know which book it was," she said. "It was quite peaceful."

In central Baghdad, the protesters gathered in the pre-dawn darkness at Tahrir Square.

"Yes, yes to the Quran!" shouted the protesters, mostly young men.&nbsp;

Some of them carried portraits of Sadr, who has a following of millions among the country's majority Shiite population and also exerts great influence over the country's politics.

Security forces cut two bridges leading to the high-security Green Zone where governmental institutions and foreign embassies are located.

The protesters made attempts to crash through before the security officials pushed them back after which they ultimately dispersed, an interior ministry official told news agency AFP.

As per the official, the demonstrators were making attempts to reach the embassy of Denmark.

On Saturday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei released a statement saying that the persons behind desecrating the holy book Quran, should face the "most severe punishment". He further demanded Sweden hand them over for prosecution in Islamic countries, Iran's state media reported.

"All Islamic scholars agree that those who desecrate the Koran deserved the most severe punishment... The duty of that (Swedish) government is to hand over the perpetrator to the judicial systems of Islamic countries," Khamenei said in a statement carried by state media.

Early on Saturday, Iraq's foreign ministry had condemned "the desecration of the holy Quran and the Iraqi flag" in front of the embassy in Denmark.

In a separate statement, the ministry said "we cannot allow to happen again" what occurred at the Swedish embassy.

It reaffirmed Baghdad's "full commitment" to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and said it guarantees "the protection and security provided to diplomatic teams".

"We are mobilised today to denounce the burning of the Quran, which is all about love and faith," said protester Hassan Ahmed, while speaking to AFP. "We demand that the Swedish government and the Iraqi government stop this type of initiative," he added.&nbsp;

Then later on Thursday (July 20), Iraq cut diplomatic ties with Sweden and ordered the Swedish ambassador to leave the country.

Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani "instructed the Swedish ambassador in Baghdad to leave Iraqi territory", his office said in a statement.

UNESCO on Sunday released a statement condemning Russia's "brazen" attack on Ukraine's Odesa, which targeted many sites in the port city's World Heritage Centre.

"UNESCO is deeply dismayed and condemns in the strongest terms the brazen attack carried out by the Russian forces, which hit several cultural sites in the city centre of Odesa, home to the World Heritage property 'The Historic Centre of Odesa'", the Paris-based body said in a statement.

The Russian strike, which is also the latest attack on the Black Sea city and one of Ukraine's most important ports after Moscow pulled out of a grain deal that allowed Kyiv to export its grain, claimed the lives of at least two people.

UNESCO chief Audrey Azoulay said the attack marked "an escalation of violence against (the) cultural heritage of Ukraine".

The strike damaged the Transfiguration Cathedral, originally built in 1794 under imperial Russian rule, demolished under Soviet leader Stalin in 1936 and rebuilt in the 1990s following the Soviet Union collapse.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday (July 23) vowed "retaliation" against Russia after the historic port of Odesa was attacked by Moscow with projectiles, claiming the lives of two people and damaging an Orthodox cathedral. &nbsp;

"Missiles against peaceful cities, against residential buildings, a cathedral. There will definitely be retaliation against Russian terrorists for Odesa. They will feel this retaliation," Zelensky said.&nbsp;

Ukraine released a statement saying that 19 missiles were launched by Russia on Odesa overnight.

At least two people lost their lives and 19 others suffered injuries, which included four children as residential and religious infrastructure suffered damage in an attack, informed the governor of the region on Sunday (July 23).

"Odesa: another night attack of the monsters. Unfortunately, we have one civilian killed as a result of the nighttime terrorist attack by Russians on Odesa," said Oleg Kiper on Telegram. Earlier, he had said that there were "18 victims, including four children," in an attack launched by Russia at 3:00 am (0000 GMT).

"Fourteen people were hospitalised in the city's hospitals, three of them were children," he stated. He added that the attack also led to "damage to civilian infrastructure, residential buildings and a religious institution".

Thunberg admitted to the Malmo district court that she had not abided by the orders from the police to relocate, but also denied criminality, citing the necessity created by the "climate crisis." However, the judge said that she was still liable and fined&nbsp;her 1,500 kronor ($144) plus an additional 1,000 kronor to the Swedish fund for victims of crime.&nbsp;

The 20-year-old climate activist appeared in court on Monday in the southern Swedish city of Malmo after 11 am (0900 GMT).

According to news agency AFP, as per the charge sheet, Thunberg "took part in a demonstration that disrupted traffic" and "refused to obey police orders to leave the site".

"It's correct that I was at that place on that day, and it's correct that I received an order that I didn't listen to, but I want to deny the crime," Thunberg told the court when asked about the charge against her.&nbsp;

Thunberg, citing the need created by the "climate crisis", said she had acted out of necessity. &nbsp;

"My actions are justifiable," Thunberg told the court. "I believe that we are in an emergency that threatens life, health and property. Countless people and communities are at risk both in the short term and in the long term."

After the short trial, the court however found that Thunberg was still liable for her conduct and slapped her with a fine of 1,500 kronor ($144) plus an additional 1,000 kronor to the Swedish fund for the victims of crime.&nbsp;

The rally, which was organised by the environmental activist group "Ta tillbaka framtiden" (Reclaim the Future), tried to create an obstruction on the entrance and exit to the Malmo harbour in order to demonstrate against the use of fossil fuel.

"We choose to not be bystanders, and instead physically stop the fossil fuel infrastructure. We are reclaiming the future," Thunberg said in an Instagram post at the time.

Thunberg shot to global fame after starting her "School Strike for the Climate" in front of Sweden's parliament in Stockholm at the age of 15.

She founded the 'Fridays for Future' movement which very soon became a worldwide phenomenon.

In addition to the climate strikes, the 20-year-old activist regularly reprimands world leaders and governments for not taking appropriate measures to tackle climate change.

Environmental activist group 'Reclaim the Future' said that despite the legal pressure, the group will be determined and make efforts to stand up to the fossil fuels industry.

"If the court chooses to see our action as a crime it may do so, but we know we have the right to live and the fossil fuels industry stands in the way of that," group spokesperson Irma Kjellstrom told AFP.

Six members of the organisation would be appearing in court in Malmo, she said.

"We young people are not going to wait but will do what we can to stop this industry which is burning our lives," she said, explaining the group's plans for continuing civil disobedience.
