<p>New York Fashion Week kickstarted on Friday with a gathering of menswear and genderless designers showcasing their 2023 fall/winter collections.</p>

<p>Jimmy Alexander, the creator of the Los Angeles-based brand All Beneath Heaven, made his fashion week debut. "This exercise is really about the people looking at each other in the eyes… being able to be vulnerable with someone,"&nbsp;said Alexander.</p>

<p>Designer Terry Singh shared that his brand is all about freedom and family and that he wants to "celebrate who you are now".</p>

<p>Cross Eyed Moose, from One Jeanswear Group, says they're hoping to take over the accessible premium market. "Our model is we say it was born in the city and raised in the wild. So basically it’s streetwear, outdoor wear, work wear all combined in one with a colour story," said Jack Gross, the CEO of One Jeanswear Group.</p>

Menswear designers debut new collections at New York Fashion Week

<p>Australian scientists have identified a new active compound&nbsp;in an edible mushroom, Hericium erinaceus, that is capable of boosting nerve growth and even enhancing memory. The University of Queensland’s pre-clinical test has found that edible Lion's Mane mushrooms have a significant impact on the growth of human brain cells.</p>

<p>Researchers feel this discovery could be used&nbsp;to protect against&nbsp;and treat Alzheimer's disease</p>

<p>According to Professor Frederic Meunier from the Queensland Brain Institute, his team has&nbsp;identified new active compounds in&nbsp;the mushroom that improve brain cell growth. "Extracts from these so-called ‘lion’s mane’ mushrooms have been used in traditional medicine in Asian countries for centuries, but we wanted to scientifically determine their potential effect on brain cells," Professor Meunier shared.</p>

<p>"Pre-clinical testing found the lion’s mane mushroom had a significant impact on the growth of brain cells and improving memory. Laboratory tests measured the neurotrophic effects of compounds isolated from Hericium erinaceus on cultured brain cells, and surprisingly we found that the active compounds promote neuron projections, extending and connecting to other neurons,"&nbsp;Professor Meunier added.</p>

<p>"Using super-resolution microscopy, we found the mushroom extract and its active components largely increase the size of growth cones, which are particularly important for brain cells to sense their environment and establish new connections with other neurons in the brain," he concluded.</p>

<p>UQ’s Dr Ramon Martinez-Marmol, who is a co-author of the study, feel that the discovery had applications that could treat and protect patients against neurodegenerative cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.</p>

<p>"Our idea was to identify bioactive compounds from natural sources that could reach the brain and regulate the growth of neurons, resulting in improved memory formation,"&nbsp;Dr Martinez-Marmol said.</p>

<p>Dr Dae Hee Lee from CNGBio Co, which has supported the research project, said that the properties of lion’s mane mushrooms had been used to treat ailments and maintain health in traditional Chinese medicine since antiquity.</p>

<p>"This important research is unravelling the molecular mechanism of lion’s mane mushroom compounds and their effects on brain function, particularly memory,"&nbsp;Dr Lee revealed.</p>

<p>“And we had the Grammys and fashion week,” Siriano told The Associated Press in a backstage interview. “We had no time and I was like, well, we hope it works. It’s just such an honour. We wanted to make her look really beautiful and powerful.”</p>

<p>Then there was his update of Alicia Silverstone’s iconic “Clueless” yellow plaid skirt set for her Rakuten Super Bowl commercial airing Sunday. He even scored a cameo as a student in Cher Horowitz’s debate class.</p>

<p>Siriano and Silverstone are long-time pals and she sits often on his front rows. She was away filming this time around. Lindsay Lohan, with her brother Dakota and one of her sisters walking in the show, attended with Quinta Brunson and Julia Stiles.</p>

<p>“Growing up, literally any young fashion designer is obsessed with ‘Clueless.’ I mean, Cher is your muse. It felt really full circle,” he said of his Super Bowl moment.</p>

<p>Siriano had another muse on his mind for his latest collection: Hepburn. To be precise, Hepburn in a rose garden at midnight. He was inspired by a 1990s TV documentary series she did with Michael York, 'Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn'.</p>

<p>The series had Hepburn visiting spectacular gardens in England, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, the U.S. and elsewhere.</p>

<p>Siriano honoured the series with Japanese-influenced hats in purple check and large 3D floral embellishments in looks of fuchsia, or as he described it, “orchid purple.” He incorporated roses into a swirly black-and-white print and offered up sunny yellow in solids and colour-blocked looks.</p>

<p>And there were youthful, girly little black dresses, more matronly, roomy dresses and other looks, and a standout barely there evening dress in body-hugging, delicate tulle.</p>

<p>Siriano took his flower mission seriously, sending out one model in one of his big hats adorned with huge blossoms, with more huge blossoms on the top of a matching fuchsia pantsuit.</p>

<p>Wearable? It would take courage. A beautifully cut, long tuxedo coat with pants, all in the same pinky-purple hue, might be easier.</p>

<p>All thanks to Hepburn’s first and only television series.</p>

<p>“It was incredible and fabulous,” Siriano said of the show, “and just very inspiring.”</p>

<p>Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and her husband and actor Saif Ali Khan are all set to collaborate for the Hindi adaptation of the much-anticipated superhero audio series 'Marvel's Wastelanders', which is&nbsp;a new Hindi Audible Original podcast.</p>

<p>While Kareena will take on the iconic role of Black Widow in the alternate universe set in the future, Saif will feature as&nbsp;Star-Lord. However, both of their stories will have different arcs and seasons. And, the narratives will also not intersect.</p>

<p>The first season of the podcast will release in the form of Saif-led 'Marvel's Wastelanders: Star-Lord' on the audio streaming platform Audible on June 28.</p>

<p>While talking about his experience narrating his character and collaborating with the streaming platform, the actor recently said in a press conference, "Star-Lord, a beloved and roguishly charming hero's story is an against-all-odds story of survival and redemption."</p>

Happy Hug Day 2023: Why hugging is the universal expression of love

<p>'RuPaul’s Drag Race'&nbsp;season 15 started premiering its hour-long weekly episodes on&nbsp;MTV on January 6.
