The Department of Tourism, Kashmir hosted a Model G20 Summit in Srinagar on Friday (April 28). The summit brought together over 60 participants from universities across J&amp;K including Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and University of Kashmir (KU).

The opening ceremony of the event was presided over by Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary to the Government of Jammu &amp; Kashmir, Department of Tourism and Culture. He expressed his belief that this event would serve as a stepping stone for the younger generation, opening more opportunities for them in the future.

During the event, the students actively participated in deliberations and negotiations while representing their respective G20 countries. The discussions primarily focused on priorities in the tourism sector, such as sustainable tourism practices and gender equity &amp; women in tourism.

"This model G20 event is like a rehearsal to the main event happening here next month. We had students from various institutions, and we are participating in this event as delegates and we have to discuss about tourism and sustainable tourism, women in tourism and effective promotion of tourism. We discussed the issues and it's going to be a major event in Jammu and Kashmir. It's going to open new avenues for us and people are going to perceive us differently. It's going to be a boon for the tourism sector," said Sadat Hussain, Student.

The Model G20 Summit served as a valuable platform for the participants to enhance their understanding of the workings of G20 and the issues it addresses. It provided a unique opportunity for the participants to hone their negotiation and diplomacy skills, which are essential in today's globalised world.

Kashmir has always had some amazing inspiring stories and one such story is of Shabir Hussain Khan. Khan is also known as the 'Blood man of Kashmir' as he has donated over 182 pints of blood in the last 42 years saving hundreds of lives of people in need of blood in the Kashmir valley.&nbsp;

Shabir Hussain Khan's story started in 1980 when his friend met with an accident in Jammu and Kashmir summer capital in Srinagar. He went to the hospital to donate blood for his friend and since then he has donated 182 pints of blood in the last four decades. Not only has he donated blood hundreds of times but also organised over 1200 blood donation camps across the union territory.&nbsp;

''I started over 40 years ago around 1980 in the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar Medical College. My friend had an accident, and I went to donate blood for him, but then I continued to donate blood. It created some beautiful satisfaction in my heart, as I belong to a BPL family, and I used to see people in trouble finding it difficult to get blood in these hospitals. I thought it is the best thing to do for humanity. Our Islam also teaches us the same. I have donated 182 pints of blood since 1980, I have organised more than 1200 blood donation camps across the valley, '' said Shabir Hussain Khan, volunteer blood donor.&nbsp;

Khan has been called the biggest life saver of the union territory. He says he will keep donating his blood till the time he is alive. As his blood group is O negative making him a universal donor, he says saving lives is his life's mission and the best satisfaction as well.&nbsp;

''I had only and only thought that Allah will bless me if I help the people in need. My blood group is O negative, and a lot of children require it and I feel proud that I am able to help. Allah had decided this for me, and I think it is the best thing that could have happened to me. When humans donate blood, they leave everything in the hands of God. People pray for me all the time and I have made this promise to myself that I will keep donating my blood till I am alive, '' said Shabir Hussain Khan, Volunteer Blood Donor.&nbsp;

Shabir has been continuously doing awareness programmes across the Kashmir valley and inspiring thousands of youngsters to donate blood for people in need. He has been motivating people to donate blood. Shabir also held blood donation camps during the peak of corona time for the people in need.

Shabir's only wish is that the government of India recognises his and the efforts of other blood donors in the valley. Shabir has not received a single government award for being the highest blood donor of the union territory.&nbsp;

''Government does not recognise our efforts, ten times my name was sent for state award but did get it. I hope there is a scheme for blood donors. They need to be appreciated for their work. They need the government to appreciate their efforts. The refreshments for the donors are nothing, '' said Shabir Hussain Khan, volunteer blood donor.&nbsp;

Shabir Hussain Khan's journey in blood donation started decades ago and he continues to save lives of people without getting anything in return.

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&amp;K) government inaugurated secure accommodation/ flats for the Kashmiri pandit community in north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Bandipora districts, Shopian district of south Kashmir and Ganderbal district of central Kashmir today. The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha inaugurated the accommodation.&nbsp;

The accommodation has been built under the Prime Minister’s package. Over 1200 flats were inaugurated by the LG of J&amp;K today. Around 300 flats are being constructed at a new migrant colony in Khwaja Bagh area of Baramulla in North Kashmir at a cost of Rs 40.22 crore rupees (51,39,468.60&nbsp;US$). Work on most of the flats have been completed while the rest of the flats are said to be completed within sometime.

“Around 576 flats have been completed for the Kashmiri Pandit employees and we are trying our best to complete the 2000 flats by the end of this year. The Kashmiri community wants to live together and peacefully, we are trying to help solve the logistical problems of the Kashmiri Pandits as soon as possible,” said Manoj Sinha, LG JK.&nbsp;

The government also inaugurated another secure accommodation for Kashmiri pandit employees located at Sumbul area of Bandipora in north Kashmir. Officials said that alongside the safe and secure accommodations, steps are being taken to provide other necessary facilities to Kashmiri pandit migrant employees to live in these colonies.

The J&amp;K administration is constructing the safe accommodations in all 10 districts of Kashmir valley, for Kashmiri pandit migrant employees working in the valley. The decision of constructing more accommodation was taken in view of the spurt in target killings of Kashmiri pandits in Kashmir.&nbsp;

“It's a big development, it’s after 13 years these accommodations are completed, and the government has promised to the Kashmiri pandit community these flats and finally have been finished. We thank the LG and DC madam for the project. A lot of employees are living on rent, and some are not even earning that much, so this will help them a lot,“ said a local Kashmiri Pandit.&nbsp;

The migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees have also expressed satisfaction over the inauguration of newly constructed safe accommodations today in Bandipora and Baramulla areas of the valley.&nbsp;

Over 377,000 people visited Asia's Largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar this year before the garden was closed to the public. This is the first time ever, such footfall has been witnessed in the Tulip Garden. Within just 32 days, the garden saw a record-breaking number.&nbsp;

Located between Dal Lake and the Zabarwan hills, this year over 15 million tulips of 68 varieties were planted in the garden. And the Tulip Garden remained one of the main attractions for the tourists visiting the Valley in the spring season.&nbsp;

Around 500 gardeners and staff&nbsp;worked day and night to ready the garden for the public. It takes these gardeners around six&nbsp;months to get the garden ready and huge planning is done much earlier before the opening of the garden.

The Tulip Garden has played a major role in attracting more and more tourists to Kashmir Valley during&nbsp;the Spring season. Due to the huge rush of visitors,&nbsp;the government this year opened&nbsp;the garden much earlier than the usual date, which used to fall during the first week of April. This year,&nbsp;the garden was thrown open ten days earlier on March 20.&nbsp;

"This year our tulip show ran for 32 days. Our Honourable LG inaugurated the garden this year on March 19 and on March 20 we threw it open for the public. In just 32 days, we had a footfall of 377,000 visitors, it has broken all the previous records and this season around 80 per cent of the visitors were from outside union territory, and there is a positive side also there has been a significant jump in the footfall of foreign tourists which used to be in hundreds but this year it’s been up to more than 3000 tourists from foreign countries particularly from Thailand and European countries from Latin American countries, Argentina and U.S. we received a lot of foreign tourists and it was a great show," said Inam Ur Rehman, in-charge Tulip Garden.&nbsp;

Indian&nbsp;Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted about the opening of the garden. This year the tulip garden saw a huge footfall of foreign tourists as well. Over 3000 foreigners visited the garden this year. Social media played a major role in attracting more and more tourists to visit the Tulip Garden.&nbsp;

“It has been an honour that PM tweeted about the garden. PM Narendra Modi himself has been a brand ambassador of the garden.&nbsp;What better can we wish for than he promotes the garden.&nbsp;He tweeted previously also and this year too he encouraged us, it gives us a new energy to the department under the guidance of LG and Chief Sectt and Commissioner Sectt, who have all worked hard to make this show a success. Social networking plays a very significant role. There is hardly anyone who is not on social network. There was a great response from the public this year and social media played a major role," said Inam Ur Rehman, in-charge Tulip Garden.&nbsp;

While the whole world was celebrating Islamic Festival Eid, a small group of women in the remote village of Karith in India’s Ladakh decided to celebrate the festival in a unique way. These local women from the Karith village got together and raised slogans of cleanliness and made sure the entire village was cleaned on Eid.&nbsp;

The initiative was started by a local self-help group in the area along with the local females. The programme witnessed huge participation from women in the area and also showcased the relationship between humans and nature. Clean surroundings and maintaining a balance between nature and people are of the utmost importance.&nbsp;

“To observe and celebrate Eid Ul Fitr in a beneficial way, all of us got together and carried out the cleanliness drive in our village. The slogan of the clean Karith Village was raised, and a cleaning programme was launched in the village called Clean Karith. We generally clean our houses for the festival of Eid but this year we made sure to clean the whole village,” said a local woman.&nbsp;

The Karith village of Ladakh has taken several initiatives before this also which became a learning point for many other villages. The same ideas were replicated later by many villages across the country.&nbsp;

“Karith village has taken several initiatives which can become a role model for the rest of the villages in the Union Territory. And this step will also come as a prototype for the cleanliness of the society, and it is said that a healthy village is the abode of a healthy society,” said Mohd Hasan of Yuva Karith Group.&nbsp;

The same group has earlier set up a pilot school and Ice Stupa in Ladakh which became popular not only at the regional but also at the national level. These women from the Karith Village have set new standards for keeping their village clean and inspired hundreds of others to take up the same initiative and make villages across India clean and green.&nbsp;

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today attached two properties of the sons of designated terrorist Syed Mohammed Yusuf Shah, Syed Salahuddin, the chief of Hizb-Ul-Mujahideen (HM) and Chairman of United Jihad Council (UJC). The immovable properties of Shahid Yusuf and Syed Ahmed Shakeel, located in Kashmir – in Soibugh Tehsil, Distt. Budgam and Nursing Garh, Mohalla Ram Bagh in Srinagar have been attached under section 33(1) of the UA( P) Act.&nbsp;

''Both Shahid Yusuf and Syed Ahmed Shakeel are lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since their arrest in October 2017 and August 2018. They were charge-sheeted on 20th April 2018 and 20th November 2018, respectively. The duo had been receiving funds from abroad from the associates of their father and overground workers of HM,'' said an NIA official release.&nbsp;

The NIA said that Syed Salahuddin fled to Pakistan in 1993, and was designated as an individual terrorist by India in October 2020. He continues to operate from Pakistan, from where he is guiding and instructing HUM cadres as well as activists of UJC, also known as Muttahida Jihad Council (MJC) which is a conglomerate of around 13 Pakistan-based Kashmir-centric terror outfits.

''Besides instigating and operationalising militant activities in India, primarily in Kashmir valley, Syed Salahuddin has been raising funds and routing finances to India through trade routes, Hawala channels, and international money transfer channels for furthering the terrorist activities of HM cadres,'' said the release.

According to the NIA, investigations were launched in November 2011 into the criminal conspiracy to raise/collect/provide funds to commit terrorist acts and distribute funds among the terror groups and their sympathizers in Jammu and Kashmir for the purpose of committing terrorist acts. The Special Cell of Delhi Police had initially registered a case in January 2011 and the case was subsequently taken over by NIA. Chargesheets as well as Supplementary Chargesheets were filed against eight accused in the case, including in 2011 and 2018.

NIA has been cracking down on terror funding machinery in a bid to dismantle the terrorist financing ecosystem operating in Jammu and Kashmir with the help of individuals based in Pakistan and other countries.&nbsp;

On Monday itself, the agency also seized six shops in Awantipora in a case relating to a 2018 attack on CRPF Group Centre at Lethpora, J&amp;K.&nbsp;

A major Cordon and Search Operation was launched in India's Jammu and Kashmir after a terrorist attack on security forces claimed the lives of five Indian troops on Thursday, April 20.

The search operation was launched across Rajouri, Poonch and Mendhar areas of Jammu region, about 580 km north of New Delhi. The security has been beefed up in multiple villages near Thursday's&nbsp;attack site.&nbsp;

The security deployment has been increased around&nbsp;Bhata Dhurian, Nar forest, Sanjiote, and Kotan area. Search operations will continue through the night of April 21 in the area.&nbsp;

Sources in the security forces told WION that it was an ambush and the terrorists involved in the attack could have come from across the Line of Control from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. At present the terrorists are expected to be&nbsp;trying to escape back into PoK.&nbsp;

The security forces have also shut all vehicular movement of civilian vehicles on Poonch Highway. The forces have&nbsp;suspended all civil&nbsp;traffic on the national highway stretch between Bhimber Gali and Bhata Dhurian. Forces have also advised locals to follow the Mendhar diversion for moving towards Poonch and Surankote.

Earlier on Thursday at around 3pm, one Army vehicle, moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajouri sector was fired on by unidentified terrorists, taking advantage of heavy rains and low visibility in the area. The vehicle caught fire, due to likely use of grenades by terrorists. Five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit deployed for Counter Terrorist operations in this area lost their lives in the incident.

''Another seriously injured soldier was evacuated immediately to the Army Hospital at Rajouri and is under treatment. Operations are in progress to locate the perpetrators, '' said Defence PRO.&nbsp;

Poonch terror attack: Indian forces launch major search operation, close highway, to nab terrorists

With the Holy month of Ramadan coming to an end, Kashmir Valley has witnessed the most peaceful Ramadan in the last three decades. Since the start of the insurgency in the Union territory, the incidents of violence in the Kashmir Valley have been lowest during this Ramadan.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police say no major incident of violence or Law and Order has taken place across the Kashmir Valley in the last month.

''It was the most peaceful Ramadan this year. We saw no incidents of Violence in the Kashmir Valley during this holy month. Neither law and order nor any major encounter took place during this month, '' said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Kashmir.&nbsp;

According to data provided by security forces, In 2022 around 19 terrorists were killed in multiple operations in the Kashmir Valley during the month of Ramadan. There was also a series of attacks on civilians which included members of the minority community, Kashmiri Pandits in the month of Ramdhan.&nbsp;

The Ramadan of 2021 was more brutal and violent, as the number of casualties were much higher. Over 20 terrorists were killed in the over a dozen anti-terror operations in the Valley.&nbsp;

With peace prevailing in the Valley, the locals of the Union territory are happy. The restrictions on the Major mosques, including the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, were lifted this Ramadan and people were able to offer Shab-e-Qadr prayers after a gap of three long years in the mosque.&nbsp;

''It's God's grace that no violence took place during the month of Ramadan, the real message of Islam is about peace, Islam is does not teach us any violence. The day we learn Islamic teachings properly and learn humanity. We are so grateful, Islam never preaches violence, and I am happy we had a peaceful Ramadan, '' said Bashir Ahmad, Local.&nbsp;

However, the Political parties in the Kashmir Valley are questioning normalcy. Political leaders are saying that if there is peace, then what is stopping the government from holding elections in the Valley. They say the government of India should take advantage of this peace and begin the democratic process. They believe that a popular government in Jammu and Kashmir can make things better.&nbsp;

''Ramzan Sharif is one where such things don't happen, people are busy in prayers and asking god to forgive for their sins. If the government of India says everything is alright here, why don't they hold elections? Why not? If it's peaceful, then let's hold an election. What are they waiting for?, '' said Farooq Abdullah, Former Chief Minister of JK and Member of Parliament.&nbsp;

In 2018, the popular government led by BJP and PDP ordered the suspension of anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the month of Ramadan. However, the terror groups did not stop and continued their attacks. An army soldier was kidnapped and later killed on Eid.&nbsp;

Muslims across the world are observing the holy month of Ramadan and the people from Jammu and Kashmir are commemorating the holy month too. The huge number of devotees praying across various mosques in the Kashmir valley is witness to the increased devotion among people.&nbsp;

Shab-e-Qadr or Laylat-al-Qadr or the Night of Power falls between the nights of 26-27 of Ramadan and is considered as one of the holiest nights in Islam. According to Islam, The Holy Quran was first sent down from heaven during this night and the first verse of the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammad.&nbsp;

It was after a gap of three years, prayers were allowed in Jamia Masjid of Srinagar during the Shab-e-Qadr. Thousands of people from across various districts of Kashmir Valley converged at the Jamia Masjid to offer Taraweeh Prayers and pray till the wee hours of morning.

Jamia Masjid had been closed on most of the important occasions of the Islamic Calendar. This year the authorities allowed the devotees to pray during the Shab-e-Qadr. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had tweeted along with a video during the Shab-e-Qadr.

Shab-E-Qadr prayers held in Srinagar's Jamia Masjid, thousands  in attendance

Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are witnessing heavy rains in the plains and moderate snowfall in the higher reaches of the region. The change in weather has resulted in a decrease in the temperatures across both the Union Territories (UTs). The government has also issued avalanche warnings in higher reaches witnessing fresh snowfall.&nbsp;

The MeT department has predicted more rains for the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches till April 21. The government has issued an orange alert in various districts of the valley.&nbsp;

''Intermittent Light to Moderate Rain at most places of Kashmir &amp; scattered places of Jammu. Significant decrease in Rainfall from the evening. On 20 and 21, Intermittent light to Moderate Rain at scattered places across the Valley. The weather will remain dry after April 23, '' said a MeT Official.&nbsp;

Snowfall was witnessed in various areas of the Valley including the Gurez area of North Kashmir's Bandipora District, Machil area of North Kashmir's Kupwara District, Pir panjal heights in South Kashmir, and Amarnath cave area in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, while as it's heavily raining in plain areas including Srinagar and other parts.&nbsp;

Ladakh also witnessed fresh snowfall in some areas. The Minimarg area of Leh and Zojila in Kargil received fresh snowfall. Due to the snowfall in these areas, there have been multiple avalanches in the area, especially on Srinagar-Leh Highway at Zojila.&nbsp;

Several vehicles were buried under the avalanches on the highway in the last few days. The Srinagar-Leh highway has been closed to traffic as a precautionary measure.

The Bandipora-Gurez, Machil-Kupwara and Sinthan-Kishtwar roads have also been closed to traffic due to fresh snowfall in these areas.

In South Kashmir's Kulgam district, police rescued three nomadic families along with their livestock. They were stuck due to the heavy water flow in the Veshaw River and continuous rains in the area.&nbsp;

''Kulgam police rescued three nomadic families consisting of 19 members along with their livestock including more than 100 sheep to the safer place who were stuck in between the river Veshaw due to abrupt increase in water level following continuous rainfall, '' said police.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir's disaster management authority has issued an avalanche alert over higher reaches in five districts. They said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche could likely occur above 2800 to 3500 metres above sea level over Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, and Ganderbal districts. And hence advised people living in these areas to take precautions and avoid venturing into the avalanche-prone areas till further orders.

The government has also issued avalanche warnings in higher reaches witnessing fresh snowfall. The MeT department has predicted more rains for the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches till April 21. The government has issued an orange alert in various districts of the valley. ''Intermittent Light to Moderate Rain at most places of Kashmir & scattered places of Jammu. Significant decrease in Rainfall from the evening. On 20 and 21, Intermittent light to Moderate Rain at scattered places across the Valley. The weather will remain dry after April 23, '' said a MeT Official. Snowfall was witnessed in various areas of the Valley including the Gurez area of North Kashmir's Bandipora District, Machil area of North Kashmir's Kupwara District, Pir panjal heights in South Kashmir, and Amarnath cave area in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, while as it's heavily raining in plain areas including Srinagar and other parts. Ladakh also witnessed fresh snowfall in some areas. The Minimarg area of Leh and Zojila in Kargil received fresh snowfall. Due to the snowfall in these areas, there have been multiple avalanches in the area, especially on Srinagar-Leh Highway at Zojila. Several vehicles were buried under the avalanches on the highway in the last few days. The Srinagar-Leh highway has been closed to traffic as a precautionary measure. The Bandipora-Gurez, Machil-Kupwara and Sinthan-Kishtwar roads have also been closed to traffic due to fresh snowfall in these areas. In South Kashmir's Kulgam district, police rescued three nomadic families along with their livestock. They were stuck due to the heavy water flow in the Veshaw River and continuous rains in the area. ''Kulgam police rescued three nomadic families consisting of 19 members along with their livestock including more than 100 sheep to the safer place who were stuck in between the river Veshaw due to abrupt increase in water level following continuous rainfall, '' said police. Jammu and Kashmir's disaster management authority has issued an avalanche alert over higher reaches in five districts. They said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche could likely occur above 2800 to 3500 metres above sea level over Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, and Ganderbal districts. And hence advised people living in these areas to take precautions and avoid venturing into the avalanche-prone areas till further orders. With the government announcing the opening of registration for the Annual Amarnath Yatra, the preparations and arrangements for the pilgrimage have started in both the districts of Ganderbal and Anantnag of Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;

The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) announced earlier that this year the pilgrimage would be for 62 days instead of 45 days. The Amarnath Yatra would start from July 1. The SASB has introduced Aadhaar authentication-based registration for pilgrims this year. The registration can be done at over 500 bank branches across India.&nbsp;

“Hassle-free pilgrimage is the top priority of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji. The administration will provide best-in-class healthcare and other essential facilities to all the visiting devotees and service providers,” said Manoj Sinha, Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp; 
&nbsp; 
He added, “Telecom services will be made operational prior to the commencement of Pilgrimage. All the stakeholder departments are working in coordination to ensure facilities for lodging, power, water, security and other arrangements for the smooth conduct of Yatra,”&nbsp;

The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has also said that there will be a live telecast of morning and evening aarti (prayers) for devotees across the globe. Shri Amarnath Yatra’s App has been made available on the Google Play store to get real-time information about the Yatra, and weather and for availing of several services online.

According to the government, no one below the age of 13 years or above the age of 75 years, and no woman with more than six weeks' pregnancy shall be allowed to take the pilgrimage.&nbsp;

SASB held a meeting which was chaired by the Lt Governor and attended by the members and officials, reviewed various aspects of Amarnath Yatra-2023, including registration, provision of helicopter services, service providers, camps, langars and insurance cover for Yatris.

The Lt Governor also directed the officials to ensure high levels of cleanliness and to take necessary interventions for sanitation and waste management during the Yatra.&nbsp;

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha said that “Kashmir division is witnessing ‘Yellow Revolution’ with oilseed crops registering significant growth. There will be additional opportunities for oil extraction and value addition and therefore more entrepreneurial opportunities for people.”

The Lt. Governor Sinha highlighted the efforts of the UT Government to realize the true growth potential of Jammu Kashmir and lauded the efforts of progressive farming and improving agricultural productivity and encouraging the adoption of new agriculture techniques.
