<p>In last one year, Jammu and Kashmir has had over 200 shoots which included those of films, web series and drama. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan shot for his film recently as well. The government has a film policy in place to make conditions suitable for film crews. The government has introduced one window approvals for shooting in Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Jammu and Kashmir used to be famous for film shootings during the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. If a part of a film was not shot in Jammu Kashmir, it was considered incomplete. Our effort, from the department of tourism, is that once again, Jammu and Kashmir should be brought into the mainstream of film shoots. You would be surprised to know that in the last one year we have had over 200 shoots which include films, web series and Drama due to which we realise the scope has increased now," said Syed Abid Rashid, Administrative Secretary, JK Tourism.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We are adding three hundred new destinations for the shoots this year. These include offbeat destinations, religious tourism destinations and adventure treks. We will have around 75 adventure treks, 75 religious tourism and 75 cultural tourism destinations. We will try to upscale them and start promotions at national and international level. We have our one window film policy," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kashmir is hosting G20 meetings between May 22-24 and the main focus of the meetings will include tourism. The Jammu and Kashmir government believes that the event would eventually mean more footfall of domestic as well as International filmmakers. The government is also trying to carry out international promotions to attract filmmakers from across the world.</p>

<p>"G20 is happening by the end of this month, the core focus area of it is tourism. So, it's an immense opportunity to project Jammu and Kashmir at an international level and promote it. We will have a lot of advantages and in future tourist footfall, the international tourist footfall in terms of film tourism will increase. I think this historical event is happening for the first time since 1947. It is one of the biggest events to be held in Kashmir to showcase JK to the whole world," said Syed Abid Rashid, Administrative Secretary, JK Tourism.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The local film makers are also hopeful that after G20, there would be more and more film crews as well as tourists coming to the union territory. And by opening these new destinations for the film crews, more and more film productions will choose valley for their shoots and will also generate employment at the local level.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's very nice to promote the tourism of Kashmir or JK as a whole. There are many places other than Gulmarg and Pahalgam in the Valley which need to be explored. The local Kashmiris want other places to be opened and which are shooting worthy, and I am extremely happy about it. It will create new job opportunities as hotels will open, taxi stands will open which means good for the industry. I am very happy about G20. Kashmir is already on the world map of tourism. G20 happening here means a lot for the locals, the government and also the film makers. It will bring Kashmir in the world limelight once again and for a good reason. It's good for films and tourism," said Mushtaq Ali Khan, a filmmaker and festival director of Kashmir Film Festival.</p>

<p>The Government of India believes that upcoming G20 meetings in Srinagar will showcase the valley as an international film shooting destination.&nbsp;</p>

Kashmir opens 300 new film destinations, over 200 films shot in last one year

<p>In a rare discovery, the Jammu and Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) have discovered a rare kind of fish for the first time in Dal Lake. According to the experts, the fish is called an 'Alligator Gar' fish.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) was cleaning the world-famous Dal Lake ahead of the G20 meeting&nbsp;since the venue is near the lake.</p>

<p>While the officials undertook the cleaning, they found the rare fish in the Dal Lake. The officials with the government said that the fish has a crocodile-like head and razor-sharp teeth.</p>

<p>The 'Alligator Gar' fish is native to North America.</p>

<p>"Our machines were carrying out de-weeding in Dal Lake and suddenly this fish appeared on the machine. For the first time we have seen such a type of fish which is known as the Alligator Gar. It was surprising for all of us, and no one had seen a fish like this which resembles the crocodile. Most of us were shocked. We are analysing the situation and we are seeking support from the fisheries department. We will see if there are more of these fish in the lake," said Masood Ahmad, an expert from J&amp;K LCMA’s research and monitoring department.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Social media is abuzz with videos of the rare fish 'Alligator Gar' being discovered in Dal Lake. The people in the valley and specially those who live on the Dal Lake have shown concern about finding a rare fish in the lake. Some of them even expressed concern and said that the fish could be an invasive species and a threat to natural aquatic life of Dal Lake.</p>

<p>"The Alligator Gar fish has been sighted for the first time in Kashmir. This fish is not harmful, but we don't have any research on it as this is the first time it has been seen here in the Dal Lake,” said Dr Farooz Ahmad Bhat, Dean at the Faculty of Fisheries, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Kashmir.</p>

<p>Government officials said that they will look into how and where has the fish come from and how long it has been here. Proper research will be carried out to determine how it reached the lake or whether it poses any danger to&nbsp;the local fish varieties in the Kashmir valley.&nbsp;</p>

India: Rare Alligator Gar Fish found in Dal Lake of Kashmir

<p>Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha inaugurated three Srinagar Smart City Projects and 25 Urban Local Bodies (ULB) projects in Kashmir Valley on Friday (May 12). Of the three Smart City Projects, Polo View has been transformed into a pedestrian-oriented shopping street, Abi Guzar Shiv temple has been renovated and dedicated to the people and Smart Advanced Traffic Management vehicles have been included in the fleet for Srinagar Smart City.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government has also dedicated Urban Local bodies (ULB) projects to the public today of which 16 are development projects in 11 ULBs and 9 are Solid Waste Management facilities in 10 ULBs. On the occasion, the Lt Governor said, that these projects will significantly boost urban infrastructure and give an impetus to ease of living. The Lt Governor also highlighted the steps taken to fulfil the aspirations of all 40 ULBs of Kashmir Division.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We have put people at the centre of cities and the projects both development and solid waste management, are offering unprecedented opportunities to improve the lives of millions of urban residents. The newly inaugurated projects are a testimony to our commitment to improve the urban environment. Today, economic development is gaining new momentum. Pace of completion of projects has increased 9 times and every section of the society is feeling empowered," said LG Manoj Sinha.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Lt Governor called upon the elected representatives of the ULBs and the common people to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the administration in the mission to rejuvenate the cities and make them more vibrant, efficient, clean and sustainable. Director of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir informed about the ongoing projects for the development of urban areas of the region.</p>

In every ULB we campaign about various schemes by the government. There is a regular chart, and it goes on," said Mathora Masoom, Director Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir Division.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The event was attended by top officials of the civil administration of the Kashmir region.</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir Fruit and Vegetable Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA), besides other farmers' associations in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, had pushed for a cap on such imports to save the local apple farmers of the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''I welcome the decision of the government that they have put a cap of Rs 50 on imports. It's a cap that the government has implemented. It will majorly hit the apple from Iran and Turkey. The other country's apples, like the United States, are already giving duty. This will benefit the Kashmiri apple growers. The apples from Iran and Turkey hit the market of Kashmir and Himachal. The local demand for our apples in the country will increase for sure,'' said Mohammad Shahid Chaudhary, General Secretary, JK Fruit Association.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government issued an order on May 8 stating that "in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 read with section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, read with para 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby ITC (HS), 2022, amends the import policy position under ITC (HS) 08081000 of Chapter-08 of Schedule-I (Import Policy)".&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the new Import Policy of India, the import of apples under ITC (HS) 08081000 is now 'prohibited' where the CIF import value is equal to or less than Rs 50&nbsp;per kg.&nbsp;</p>

Kashmiri apple farmers happy after Indian government amends apple import policy

<p>The University of Kashmir hosted international Y20 consultation meetings under India’s presidency of G-20. 17 Youth delegates from G20 countries like Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Brazil and Nigeria participated in the two-day event at the University of Kashmir in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

<p>A total of 108 students from the University of Kashmir, 34 students from schools around J&amp;K, 57 students from colleges around Srinagar, 11 students' colleges and universities in Jammu, 33 DoYA delegates, 25 Y20 Secretariat delegates and 25 student activists also participated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This global event will change the future with the involvement of so many countries. Many of the young students and delegates can influence this world. I am a strong supporter of conservation and safeguarding nature," said William, an American student.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The theme of the consultative meeting was “Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life” and was held under the aegis of India’s G20 Presidency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The Y20 is being held here in which’s students from across the world have gathered here. They have come to keep their points over climate change and those points will be sent across to the policymakers. If students today are gathered to keep their point in front of others, these same students can tomorrow become leaders for climate change. I am proud that Kashmir University is hosting this international event,” said Aqeel Ahmad, a student from Kashmir University.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ideas generated will eventually be taken to the G20 platform and shall contribute to policy-making in critical areas. The University has undertaken enormous research on the subject of climate change and has been designated as a Centre of Excellence in Glacial Studies in the Western Himalayas by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.&nbsp;</p>

Kashmir University hosts International Y20 consultations under India’s G20 Presidency

<p>India is holding multiple security review meetings and drills to ensure tight security in Jammu and Kashmir as the union territory prepares to host historic G20 meetings on May 22. Ajay Bhalla, Union Home Secretary on Tuesday (May 9) held a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar. Top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau, Indian Army and paramilitary were present.</p>

<p>Security plans were discussed and finalised during the meeting. Upcoming G20 events in Srinagar will be the first in the city. India currently has the presidency of the G20 group of nations. The G20 meeting in Srinagar would be held at Sher E Kashmir International Convention Centre. Security has been strengthened at the venue. A huge number of security personnel can be seen guarding the venue.</p>

<p>India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is conducting daily security drills around the venue. The drills include anti-mine search and the use of trained sniffer dogs which are being used to sanitise the place. Bullet-proof vehicles are placed at all the entry and exit points of the venue. Soldiers as well as drones are involved in security arrangements to ensure 24x7 vigil. Marine commandos have been deployed around the Dal Lake for the very first time.</p>

<p>Indian Army's NSG Commandos will also be deployed for the protection of the delegates attending the meeting.</p>

<p>The security drills are being carried out by the CRPF thrice every day around the venue. The soldiers are sanitizing the area to ensure zero possibility of any untoward incident.</p>

<p>Security personnel have been put on high alert across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This has come after the recent Poonch attack and Rajouri encounter in which ten Indian army soldiers were killed. The search operation in the jungles of Poonch still continues. The forces have also intensified the anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley. Three encounters took place in different areas of North Kashmir recently in which 5 terrorists were gunned down by the forces.</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir Police have specially trained around 600 soldiers in soft skills, who will be deployed during the event. The officials were also instructed to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies to gather information about any potential security threats and take necessary actions to neutralise them.</p>

And the meeting is an opportunity for the youth to come forward and share their ideas on how they could contribute to addressing and mitigating the impacts of climate change," she added.&nbsp;</p>

Five Indian army soldiers killed during anti-terror operations in J&K's Rajouri

<p>Two terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit were killed in an encounter in the Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Both the terrorists are locals and have been identified as Shakir Majid and Hanan Ahmad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in Wanigam Payeen, Kreeri area of Baramulla by the police, Army (29RR) and SSB (2nd Bn).&nbsp;During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately. <p>ADGP Kashmir congratulated the joint team of police and security forces for conducting a successful operation without any collateral damage and termed it a big success as the killed terrorists were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in the area.</p>

<p>This is the second operation in the last 24 hours in the Kashmir Valley. Four&nbsp;terrorists have been killed in these two operations in the Valley ahead of the G20 meet to be held in Srinagar. The union territory has been put on high alert.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the meeting, the ADGP Kashmir reviewed the security arrangements and emphasised the need for co-ordinated efforts to ensure foolproof security for the summit. The officials also discussed the deployment of security personnel, traffic management, and crowd control measures to be adopted for the peaceful conduct of the summit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''We emphasised the need to be vigilant and take pre-emptive measures to prevent any untoward incident during the summit. We have advised that additional security measures should be placed at the vulnerable locations to avoid any untoward incident during the G20 summit, '' said ADGP Kashmir Police, Vijay Kumar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the meeting, a special focus on the emerging threat of VBIEDs and other modes of potential terror attacks including potential suicide attacks, standoff fire and grenade attacks were discussed in detail and counter-measures to counter these terror threats were also discussed. ADGP Kashmir instructed all district SSPs to focus on busting terror modules by apprehending terrorist associates and generating preventive intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the valley. Besides, all SSPs were instructed to conduct anti-terrorist operations on specific inputs. The officials discussed the deployment of additional security forces and use of modern technology to secure the venues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Two terrorists were killed in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today. Security forces had received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area after which a cordon and search operation was launched.</p>

<p>According to the Indian Army, based on a specific intelligence input provided by SSP Kupwara of likely infiltration from one of the terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control towards the Machhil sector, the troops were put on high alert on May 1.</p>

<p>The Indian army said, "A well-coordinated&nbsp;counter-infiltration grid was put in place in this rugged and extremely difficult area. A number of additional ambushes including those of the Indian Army and SOG Kupwara were placed along the likely routes of infiltration. The alert troops in ambushes braved continuous bad weather marked by incessant rainfall, poor visibility and a significant drop in temperature for two consecutive nights. Early morning on 03 May at around 08.30 AM, terrorists were sited by the troops having infiltrated onto their own side of the Line of Control.
