They noted that the shipment reached an Indian port after eight weeks, from where they travelled 1,287 kilometres on the road to reach a small village.
Citing drone footage, BBC reported that the tyres were at a place where they were later thrown into furnaces. A person told them that processing imported tyres this way was legal and not dangerous. The publication quoted an Indian environmental lawyer as saying that there are 2,000 pyrolysis plants in the country, and half of them are unlicensed.

However, no one at the airline listened, and the saga stretched for a long time before the entire thing was finally fixed, according to a report by View from the Wing.
The person had bought the ticket outside the United States. The airline made a mistake in calculating the currency conversion during the refund, which led to the hefty amount being returned to the American Express card used for the purchase.
The honest customer did not want to keep the money since it wasn't theirs. So the person dialled customer care at American Airlines and told them about the mistake. However, every agent insisted that the refund was perfectly correct. When that didn't work, the person wrote emails to the airline's Revenue Protection group and even put the matter on social media. But nothing worked.

The person didn't know what else to do but was afraid of being asked for a higher amount of Americal Airlines realised its mistake weeks or months later and returned to them for the money. Depending on the exchange rate, the person would have to pay a lot more money.

So the customer then filed a "dispute" about the refund with American Express.&nbsp;
The refund was received on Feb 21, and the airline acknowledged that a mistake had happened days later. However, it still couldn't be fixed. The airline processed an adjustment on Feb 27, and to the shock of the passenger, charged them $28 million.
This spiralled into a whole other issue since American Express suspended their account due to &ldquo;high credit exposure" on March 1. The person tried to get in touch with people at Amex but could not reach a person of authority outside of normal business hours. Others who were available at those hours did not have the authority to correct a $30 million error.&nbsp;
Finally, Amex acknowledged the multiple errors on March 3 and removed the $28 million charge the next day. Things didn't end there as the process of fixing the problem had led to $300,000 being refunded, besides currency conversion costs and losses of $75,000.
American Airlines and American Express have apologised for the error and offered an undisclosed amount as compensation to the passenger.&nbsp;

At least 130 helicopters are assisting the firefighters.&nbsp;He said that a "small amount" of 5-10 millimetres of rain was expected on Thursday.&nbsp;
In a televised address, Han said that the damages because of the wildfires that began last Friday were snowballing. "There are concerns that we'll have wildfire damages that we've never experienced, so we have to concentrate all our capabilities to put out the wildfires in the rest of this week," Han said.&nbsp;

Californians reported seeing a streak of light in the sky on Monday night that many believe to either be an asteroid or meteorite. The celestial occurrence was seen by people in the Bay Area at around 9 pm. Videos captured from Bethel Island in Contra Costa County and other places in Northern California show the strange light shooting in the sky.
The American Meteor Society also gathered several videos of the fireball and posted them online. However, according to the New York-based nonprofit scientific organisation, what people saw was not a visitor from space but merely debris from a rocket or satellite. Reports suggest that the debris belonged to a satellite mission launched by SpaceX from Cape Canaveral on September 28 last year.

Experts say that the satellite is named Dragon Freedom 2 Deb, and debris from it was expected to enter Earth's atmosphere the same night since it was in a decaying orbit. But it wasn't clear where it would fall.

"This was not a meteor or fireball. It was most likely the satellite known as DRAGON FREEDOM-2 DEB &nbsp;that was expected to re-enter the atmosphere tonight," Robert Lunsford of the American Meteor Society said.

India's trade ministry, the prime minister's office and a government spokesperson did not reply to mail seeking comments.
Overall the U.S. trade-weighted average tariff has been about 2.2 per cent, data from the World Trade Organization shows, compared with India's 12 per cent. The United States has a trade deficit of $45.6 billion with India.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's U.S. visit in February, the two nations agreed to start talks towards clinching an early trade deal and resolving their standoff on tariffs.

A former hostage has come up and shared her harrowing experience of being sexually assaulted during her abduction to Gaza by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023.&nbsp;
In an interview with The New York Times, Ilana Gritzewsky recounted her first memory from the besieged Palestinian enclave, where she woke up half-naked and surrounded by seven gunmen.
Gritzewsky recounted how, after Hamas militants shot at their door that morning, she and her boyfriend Matan Zangauker, who is still in Hamas' captivity, leaped out of the window of their safe room in their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz and fled in different directions.
She recalled how gunmen captured her, placing her between two men on a motorcycle with her head and face covered.
She then said that one of the militants groped her from behind, touched her breast under her shirt and her leg.
Her leg was pressed against the exhaust pipe, which caused burns, and she lost consciousness before crossing into Gaza.

Gritzewsky said that she woke up to find herself on the floor, surrounded by seven gunmen. She recalled that her clothing was disheveled, with her shirt pulled up and pants pulled down.&nbsp;
Gritzewsky stated that she has no knowledge of what transpired prior to regaining consciousness. In an attempt to protect herself, she informed her captors that she was menstruating, believing this revelation may have spared her from further harm.
&ldquo;They hit me and lifted me up. I felt they were disappointed. I don&rsquo;t think I have ever been so thankful for my period,&rdquo; she says.
Gritzewsky said that &ldquo;one of her captors hugged her and told her, while pointing his pistol at her, that even if there was a deal, she would not be released because he wanted to marry her and have her children,&rdquo; according to NYT reports.
She added that the captors stole her jewellery and after being released, she found out that she had a broken hip.
The militants then confirmed that Zangauker was also a hostage but she didn't see him during the captivity.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not really available for my own rehabilitation, not for the body and not least for the soul,&rdquo; she said in the interview.
&ldquo;I live with the question of why me and not them. I have no answer. But if I am out, it&rsquo;s a sign that God wanted me to raise my voice to help those who are alive gain their freedom and bring back the dead for a proper burial.&rdquo;
