Russia has placed Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Lithuania’s culture minister and other officials from Baltic nations on its “wanted” list on Tuesday (Feb 13) for their alleged involvement in the destruction of Soviet-era monuments.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Only the beginning’</h2>

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Estonian PM is wanted for “desecration of historical memory”.&nbsp;

The monuments, in question, some of which commemorate the Red Army, have long been controversial in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as they are seen as a symbol of a time when they were under Soviet occupation.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago, the three Baltic nations Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have demolished most of their Soviet-era monuments.&nbsp;

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the recent move “only the beginning,” adding that &nbsp;“Crimes against the memory of the world’s liberators from Nazism and fascism must be prosecuted.”&nbsp;

The Kremlin has said those placed on the “wanted” list by the Russian police had taken “hostile actions against historical memory” and Russia.

In addition to the Estonian PM, Estonia’s State Secretary Taimar Peterkop, and Karol Nawrocki, the head of Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance, were also added to the “wanted” list, according to the Russian media. &nbsp;

A report by Reuters, citing the Russian interior ministry’s database, said the list also includes 60 of the 100 members of the previous Latvian parliament, including former Interior Minister Marija Golubeva. The previous parliament’s term ended in November 2022.

Meanwhile, Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys who was also included in the list has since slammed Russia accusing it of distorting facts.&nbsp;

“The regime is doing what it has always done: it is trying to stifle freedom...and to continue to create its own version that is at odds with facts or logic,” he told AFP.

In response to Moscow’s move, Kallas on Tuesday slammed Russian “scare tactics” and called it unsurprising. “The Russian Federation's move isn't surprising because this is their usual scare tactics,” said the Estonian PM in a statement.&nbsp;

She also vowed to further support war-torn Ukraine and fight “Russian propaganda”.&nbsp;

In addition to the “wanted” list, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin has since ordered a criminal investigation into the matter. However, the Russian interior ministry database did not specify under which article of the criminal code the wanted are prosecuted.

The dozens of Baltic officials, including mayors, and municipal deputies who are included in the “wanted” list, according to Russian state news agency TASS have been accused of “destroying monuments to Soviet soldiers,” which is punishable by a five-year prison term under the Russian criminal code.

However, the Baltic politicians and the Estonian PM would not be arrested unless they enter Russian territory.

The Soviet-era monuments which were destroyed also included those commemorating Soviet soldiers killed in World War II. The Baltic states were annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940, then occupied by Nazi Germany before returning to Russian rule as part of the Soviet Communist bloc until its collapse in 1991.&nbsp;

<h2>Estonia’s warning for the West&nbsp;</h2>

On Tuesday, the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service in its national security threats report, warned that Russia is preparing for a military confrontation with the West within the next decade.&nbsp;

“Russia has chosen a path which is a long-term confrontation...and the Kremlin is probably anticipating a possible conflict with NATO within the next decade or so,” Kaupo Rosin told reporters.&nbsp;

“If we are not prepared, the likelihood (of a military Russian attack) would be much higher than without any preparation,” Rosin added.

However, the report also noted that a military attack by Russia in the short term is “highly unlikely” given that Moscow has to keep troops in Ukraine, but it&nbsp;plans to double the number of forces stationed along its border with NATO members Finland and the three Baltic nations.&nbsp;

“During a special unit’s operations...a video was discovered in a tunnel from a security camera installed there. The footage shows the leader of Hamas and mass murderer, Yahya Sinwar, fleeing with his children and one of his wives,” said Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari at a briefing.

The footage was reportedly filmed on October 10, three days after Hamas militants attacked Israel and killed nearly 1,200 people, according to Israeli officials, and took more than 240 others as hostages back to Gaza.&nbsp;

Israel has since retaliated with a military operation in Gaza and killed nearly 28,500 people, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza.&nbsp;

The IDF clip also shows troops giving a tour of the tunnel where the Hamas chief allegedly hid with other senior officials of the Palestinian militant group.&nbsp;

The video, according to Times of Israel, showed that the tunnel has two bathrooms, a kitchen, an area to sleep and a separate room which the IDF said belongs to Sinwar.&nbsp;

In the room, as per Israeli media reports, soldiers found a safe with millions of shekels and dollars in cash. The tunnel in question was in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, according to the IDF.&nbsp;

Hagari said that the video, obtained from a surveillance camera, was filmed on October 10 and shows that Sinwar “escaped with his family underground to one of the safe accommodation complexes he had built in advance".

The clip shows a man, Sinwar’s brother Ibrahim, leading the Hamas chief, along with his wife and children, through the tunnel, reported Times of Israel.

IDF releases video of Hamas leader Sinwar in Gaza tunnel with family days after October 7 attack

Ukraine on Wednesday (Feb 14) claimed it had destroyed another Russian warship in the Black Sea as the war intensified between the two countries, approaching its second anniversary, according to a report by news agency AFP.&nbsp;

The operation had been carried out on a Russian landing ship named the 'Tsezar Kunikov', with the Ukrainian military claiming that its forces along with military intelligence units collaborated to 'destroy' the warship.

"It was in Ukrainian territorial waters near Alupka at the time of the hit," Ukraine’s military said on the Telegram messaging app.

The Ukrainian side employed "MAGURA" drones to inflict the attack, rendering the vessel damaged beyond repair, according to a CNN report.

Notably,&nbsp;“MAGURA” drones are only a few metres long and powered by jet skis but they have a range of around 800 kilometres, thereby allowing the Ukrainian military to launch them beyond its coastlines to target Russian assets.&nbsp; &nbsp;

<h2>Previous attack</h2>

The Ukrainian claims about destroying the Russian warship come after Moscow in late December last year acknowledged that one of its warships had suffered damage during an airstrike by Kyiv at the Black Sea port.&nbsp;

The attack occurred in Feodosiya, located in Russian-occupied Crimea, in the early hours of December 26. The Ministry of Defence in Russia confirmed that Ukrainian aircraft equipped with guided missiles targeted the Novocherkassk, a landing warship.&nbsp;

"Sadly, one person was killed and two others were wounded in an enemy attack on Feodosia," Russia-installed governor of Crimea, Sergei Aksionov, said on Telegram.

Wednesday's missile launch took place around 9 am local time (0000 GMT) off the eastern coastal city of Wonsan which is the&nbsp;latest in a string of weapons tests conducted by Pyongyang this year.&nbsp;

"Our military detected several unknown cruise missiles over the waters northeast of Wonsan around 09:00 today and South Korea-US intelligence authorities are conducting a detailed analysis,"&nbsp;the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement.

"While strengthening surveillance and vigilance, our military is cooperating closely with the United States and closely monitoring additional signs and activities from North Korea," it added.

Pyongyang is yet to confirm the claims made by the Seoul military.&nbsp;

Notably, earlier this week, North Korea claimed it had tested a new control system for a&nbsp;multiple rocket launcher which would have an "increased" battlefield role. Experts believe that the fresh missile launches may have been conducted using the new system.&nbsp;

The multiple missile launch comes in the backdrop of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un overseeing the launch of Pulhwasal-3-31 missiles from a submarine last month.&nbsp;

The two Pulhwasal-3-31 missiles were fired off the east coast on January 28 and&nbsp;remained in the air for 7,421 seconds and 7,445 seconds, according to&nbsp;state-run news agency KCNA.

Prior to that, Pyongyang conducted cruise missile tests on January 24 and January 14, which were the country’s first solid-fuel intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

These lakes—Superior, Huron, Michigan, Erie, and Ontario—lie along or near the US-Canada border, and are linked by a series of smaller lakes and rivers covering a total surface area of 95,000 square miles, which just so happens to be the largest freshwater system globally.

Although some fluctuation in ice cover from year to year is typical, scientists, as per The Guardian, assert that global warming is fuelling ice melt and increasing water temperatures. They warn that this trend could worsen without prompt action.

As of early Tuesday, airlines have cancelled more than 1,220 flights in the NYC area, including 43 per cent of flights at New York’s domestic LaGuardia airport, reported AFP citing data from aviation tracker Flight Aware.&nbsp;

One in five flights were also reportedly cancelled at NYC’s main air hub John F Kennedy International Airport.&nbsp;

Additionally, multiple accidents were reported across the region, as per the Associated Press, prompting officials to ban tandem and empty tractor-trailers from highways.&nbsp;

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the highest snowfall totals&nbsp;around 20 centimetres and additional snow is expected in northern New York City suburbs and&nbsp;Connecticut, Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.&nbsp;

The NWS also warned of some coastal flooding along the Massachusetts coast. All non-essential Executive Branch employees were asked not to report to work on Tuesday by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, schools in Boston were closing and a parking ban was in effect until 4:00 pm (local time). Mayor Michelle Wu said the city’s homeless shelters would remain open.

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee signed an executive order to shut all state government offices, on Tuesday, as well as banned tractor-trailer travel on all interstates and state roads starting at midnight.&nbsp;

The ban was in coordination with Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York, said McKee.&nbsp;

The issue left many students and their parents frustrated as they reportedly spent hours logging in.&nbsp;

“I just spent almost an hour trying to log in and log out,” Chong Bretillon, a parent in Queens, said, as quoted by AP. She received repeated errors as she tried to gain access to a Zoom room for her elementary school student.&nbsp;

“Everyone’s frustrated,” Bretillon said. However, New York Mayor Eric Adams defended the decision saying it was necessary because of learning losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the win, the Democrats have narrowed the already razor-thin House majority enjoyed by the Republicans - making passing of legislation even more difficult. The House Democrats have risen to 213, closing in on the 219-member GOP majority.&nbsp;

Effectively, it means that Republicans can allow only two defectors to break ranks and still pass legislation along the party&nbsp;high-command lines.&nbsp;

An Indian-origin family of four people, who hailed from the Indian state of Kerala, was found dead inside their house in San Mateo, California, on Tuesday (Feb 13). &nbsp;

The police officials identified the deceased as Anand Sujith Henry (42), his wife Alice Priyanka (40), and their twin children Noah and Neithan (4).&nbsp;

As per the San Mateo police, two of the family members lost their lives due to the gunshot wounds. However, they have still not determined what caused the death of the other two family members.&nbsp;

The police officials have been investigating the case from the angle of possible murder-suicide. However, they have not ruled out other scenarios.

The family members' relatives earlier suspected that the deaths happened due to carbon monoxide poisoning from the heater or air conditioner since the family had complained of nausea and headaches in the past.

Anand Sujith Henry and his wife Alice have been living in the United States for the last nine years and both were IT professionals.&nbsp;

Alice was a senior analyst and Anand was a software engineer. They had shifted to San Mateo County from New Jersey two years ago. The neighbours and colleagues admired the deceased couple and described them as hardworking, friendly, and devoted parents.

The Indian Consulate in San Francisco said that they have been in touch with their family members in India and they are being provided consular assistance.&nbsp;

The consulate further expressed its condolences to the deceased family along with the Indian-American community.

Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that 400 search and rescue workers have been&nbsp;searching for the missing miners.

"In order to closely coordinate the rescue work, I will interrupt my international programme with our president and move to the region as of tonight," said Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, in a posting on X.

Ayson reports that as investigators examined the building's structural safety, Mayor Arthur Robes issued an order to close the damaged church.&nbsp;

Images that Robes shared on his Facebook page showed pieces of the wooden balcony that hung less than three feet (or less than a metre) above the bottom floor, which was covered with debris, broken plastic chairs, and church pews.
