Russian hackers claim cyberattack on Spanish defence firm that is refurbishing Leopard tanks for Ukraine

Russian hackers have claimed responsibility for a recent cyber attack on a Spanish defence firm that isrefurbishing Leopard tanks for delivery to war-torn Ukraine, the news agency Reuters reported on Wednesday (June 5).
American aerospace and defence company General Dynamics had said that its subsidiary in Spain- calledSanta Barbara Systems-wastargeted in an attempted cyberattack (on its website)"that was detected immediately and has not compromised any of the company's systems."

The subsidiary temporarily disconnected its website until an ongoing investigation concluded. "The company's sensitive data remains well-protected," a spokesperson for General Dynamics told Reuters.

TheNoName hacking group from Russia claimed responsibility for the cyber attack. In a post on Telegram, NoName said, "We sent our DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) missiles against websites in russophobic Spain."

The group has often directed suchactions against countries that support Ukraine.
A warning
Santa Barbara assembles heavy vehicles such as Leopard tanks and artillery equipment for the Spanish army. The firm has also been involvedin refurbishing Spain's mothballed Leopard tanks for delivery to the Ukrainian army.
A spokesperson for General Dynamics in Spain told Reuters that the country's national cybersecurity institute had warnedSanta Barbara in the past few daysabout the possibility of such a cyberattack.
