US President Donald Trump says American forces carried out what he described as one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of West Asia, targeting military installations on Iran’s Kharg Island.
Trump said US forces “totally obliterated” military targets on the island but deliberately avoided hitting its oil infrastructure. Kharg Island is a strategic hub that handles a large share of Iran’s crude oil exports.
The US president also warned that Iran’s oil facilities on the island could be targeted in the future if Tehran interferes with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy routes.
The strike marks a major escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
