The United States has granted India a temporary 30-day waiver allowing Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil shipments already stranded at sea, despite sanctions on Moscow. The decision comes amid disruptions in global energy supplies triggered by the ongoing Iran war.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move is a short-term measure to keep oil flowing into global markets and ease pressure on energy prices, stressing that it applies only to cargoes already loaded before the restrictions and will not significantly benefit Russia.
