US invites nation to democracy summit but does the host practice what it preaches?

In a move that will most likely anger China, US President Joe Biden has invited Taiwan to a summit for democracy next month. According to the US state department, the summit is expected to focus on three principle themes- defending against authoritarianism, fighting corruption, and respect for human rights. But the big question is who made the United States the torch bearer of democracy?
