Pilot whales are known for their strong social bonds. Often, when one whale gets into difficulty and strands itself, the others follow, and this is what happened on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. A mass stranding of pilot whales. Initial reports suggested there were 55 animals, and later on, it was reported only 15 were still alive. They were euthanized on welfare grounds.
