OpenAI's financials are raising fresh questions about the economics of the artificial intelligence boom. According to audited financial documents reviewed by the Financial Times, the ChatGPT-maker's losses surged dramatically in 2025.
OpenAI's financials highlight the enormous costs of building and scaling advanced AI systems. The firm reportedly generated $13.1 billion in revenue last year. But total costs and expenses reached $34 billion, resulting in losses of around $38.5 billion. That is nearly eight times higher than the roughly $5 billion the company lost in 2024.
