In northern Iran, Goli Kouhkan was just 12 years old when she was forced to marry her cousin. By 13, she had a child — and years of abuse followed. Now, at only 25, she faces execution after a domestic dispute led to her husband’s death.
Her husband’s family has reportedly agreed to spare her life if she can raise 10 billion tomans (£80,000) by December.
Her story has sparked global outrage and renewed attention on Iran’s child marriage laws, women’s rights abuses, and the execution of young women.
