Speaking at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expressed a desire for "stable equilibrium" and "respectful" engagement with Beijing. While noting that U.S.-China relations have improved recently, Hegseth cautioned against China’s "historic military build-up" and the expansion of its military activities throughout the Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized that the U.S. seeks to maintain a durable balance of power to prevent any single state from imposing hegemony.
