Tamil Nadu CM Vijay has officially confirmed his government will scrap the long-proposed Parandur greenfield airport project, citing the interests of farmers and local communities who had protested for years against losing their land. Vijay assured the Assembly that a new site will be identified where there's no local opposition, and announced plans to expand Meenambakkam airport with a new Terminal-5, raising its capacity to 55 million passengers annually. DMK has slammed the move, arguing the state lacks authority to unilaterally scrap the project since civil aviation falls under the Centre.
