Declaring that freedom and democracy are being attacked "both at home and abroad," President Joe Biden increased the urgency with which he called for the United States to keep providing aid to Ukraine. According to him, the goal of the State of the Union speech is to "alert the American people and wake up the Congress" about the dangers to democracy.
