BBC Director-General Tim Davie and News CEO Deborah Turness have resigned following backlash over a Panorama documentary that misleadingly edited U.S. President Donald Trump’s January 6 speech. The edited footage made it appear Trump explicitly encouraged the Capitol riot, sparking widespread criticism of the broadcaster’s editorial judgment. Both leaders took accountability amid calls for the BBC to issue a formal apology as it faces scrutiny over impartiality and bias claims. The controversy has led to a major leadership shakeup within the corporation.
