The United States is pressing for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan’s civil war as violence intensifies in the strategic Kordofan region. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the escalating conflict is “horrifying” and said all those involved will face lasting condemnation. At least 100 civilians have been killed since early December, more than 50,000 people displaced in Kordofan, and over 12 million displaced nationwide as the war continues. The crisis resonated at a UN Security Council session as Washington stepped up diplomatic efforts.
