"It's not ideal for Timmy," Latham said. "He's a massive leader amongst the group and obviously he'll be assessed over the coming days when we get back home to see how bad it is, but we do have a bit of time leading into those first couple of games, so we'll know more over the next couple of days."

"He's a pretty resilient character, so I'm sure he'll be doing all he can to be on the plane, ready for that first game. But it's hard to know at this point what the timeframe will be. Once he gets home and has a few more scans, we'll know the extent of what's going on."

The Kiwis, meanwhile, lost the game by 100 runs and conceded the series 3-1 to England. They next play Bangladesh in a three-ODI series starting from September 21 before facing England in World Cup opener on October 5 in Ahmedabad.

Afghanistan have called up fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq back to the ODI fold for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Naveen played his last 50-over game for his country in January 2021 against Ireland and is making a comeback to the ODI side after more than two years.

Last year, Naveen made himself unavailable for the ODIs in January saying that he was taking a break from the ODIs. The Afghanistan Cricket Board then obliged and didn't pick him for the 50-over games since then. The pacer, however, played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and became quite infamous for getting into a spat with Indian batsman Virat Kohli.

Along with Naveen, who played for the Lucknow Super Giants, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir also got into an argument with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Kohli.

New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against England after picking up an injury. The Kiwis are currently in England for a four-match ODI series and lead it 1-0. Milne didn't play the first ODI either. The fast bowler, who has suffered from a low-grade hamstring injury, is now also under a shadow of doubt to make it to the final ICC ODI World Cup squad for the BlackCaps.

While New Zealand have selected a 15-man provisional squad for the quadrennial tournament, changes can be done till September 28 without permission from the ICC. New Zealand are expected to name their final 15 in an event on Monday, September 11.

Speaking on the injury, New Zealand coach Gary Stead said: "We have short turnarounds between these matches and want to try and look after the players as much as possible with the upcoming schedule.

"With Ben already here in England, it meant we could have him join the squad at short notice without the recovery time of a bowler joining from New Zealand mid-series. Ben impressed us in the UAE and [in the] warm-up matches in England, and will continue to learn being around some senior players in the touring group," he added.

Notably, Lister was expected to play for Kent in County Championship. The pacer had made his international debut against Pakistan earlier this year but has not been included for the upcoming Bangladesh tour.

"With Ben already here in England, it meant we could have him join the squad at short notice without the recovery time of a bowler joining from New Zealand mid-series. Ben impressed us in the UAE and [in the] warm-up matches in England, and will continue to learn being around some senior players in the touring group," he added. Notably, Lister was expected to play for Kent in County Championship. Overall, he&nbsp;has scored 3,223 runs from 96 IPL matches, at an impressive strike-rate of 148.32.&nbsp;

However, Buttler doesn't have a good ODI record in India -- having managed&nbsp;83 runs in eight matches so far at an average of&nbsp;11. Thus, he has a task to improve his record and help England successfully defend their title. The one-time winners have a plethora of superstars in their line-up, such as Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, etc. Having already led England to the championship in his only ICC event as captain, during the 2022 T20 World Cup, Buttler will feel confident leading the English line-up in the upcoming big-ticket event.

Rubiales supported Vilda and only three of the 15 were recalled for the World Cup.

"We need to make sure we're creating and providing opportunities for women," she added. "But not just giving them the opportunities, making sure they're supported and they're educated and they're ready to take those responsibilities and those opportunities. "So I think it's critical hire, it's got to be the right coach for this position. But in terms of gender, what we know is that in the last however many major tournaments, I think women have done alright."

Matildas jerseys, Johnson said, are outselling the Socceroos jersey from the&nbsp;FIFA&nbsp;men's World Cup last year in Qatar two to one. Research has shown the Matildas trail only Australia's men's cricket and soccer teams in national popularity, and have passed both the country's men's rugby union and rugby league squads. "So the (Matildas) brand is strong, it's powerful," Johnson said. "The brand is in every city and town across the country."

FIFA&nbsp;president Gianni Infantino, who attended Australia's 4-0 rout of Olympic champions Canada in Melbourne, labelled the tournament the "best ever" World Cup during a visit to Canberra this week. Johnson said a successful tournament would encourage Australia to consider bidding for the Club World Cup in 2029 "and then there's the men's World Cup in 2034 that we're also going to look at."

After a successful women's tournament in 2015, Canada will be co-hosts with the United States and Mexico for the 2026 men's World Cup. Similarly, "Australia will no doubt host a men's World Cup one day. And what better way to do that than on the back of the best-ever Women's World Cup," he added.

England got off to a terrible start in the penalty shootout when Georgia Stanway fired wide, but Desire Oparanozie couldn't take advantage and missed with an almost identical effort.

Beth England made no mistake, but Nigeria's Michelle Alozie shot way over top to give England an advantage they never surrendered, sealing the win when Chloe Kelly calmly converted. FIFA Women's World Cup: Morocco stun Colombia to storm into last 16 and chuck out Germany

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kyle Anderson attained Chinese citizenship through naturalisation on Monday (July 24).&nbsp;As per reports in the Chinese media, the basketball player's maternal grandmother was born in Jamaica to a Chinese father and a Jamaican mother. The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) confirmed the development. With this, the 29-year-old forward&nbsp;has become the latest elite athlete to acquire Chinese nationality through naturalisation. He is now the&nbsp;first-ever basketball player&nbsp;to do so.

The CBA said via a post on its official Weibo account, "[Anderson] obtained Chinese nationality this morning and met Yao Ming, chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association."&nbsp;With the new citizenship, Anderson is now eligible to represent China at the&nbsp;FIBA World Cup -- which gets underway on August&nbsp;25 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia -- and also&nbsp;at the Olympic Games, which will&nbsp;take place in Paris next year.

It is to be noted that FIBA has given the green signal to teams to have one naturalised player on their roster.

While China announced an 18-man squad for the World Cup, FIBA had made it clear that the final rosters will be confirmed post a technical meeting ahead of&nbsp;the tournament. Thus, it will be interesting to see if Anderson will make the cut in the Chinese squad and further strengthen their line-up.

Apart from Anderson, there have been several athletes who were naturalised, including many Brazilians who moved to China in order to fulfil their dreams of playing international football. Former Arsenal and Brentford midfielder Nico Yennaris, who was born in England, was the first overseas-born player to become a part of China's national soccer team in 2019.

It will be interesting to see if 29-year-old Anderson joins the Chinese squad ahead of the World Cup and how the striker adapts to a new team environment.

The FIBA World Cup will kick off on August 25 and conclude on September 10.

The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) confirmed the development. With this, the 29-year-old forward has become the latest elite athlete to acquire Chinese nationality through naturalisation. He is now the first-ever basketball player to do so. The CBA said via a post on its official Weibo account, "[Anderson] obtained Chinese nationality this morning and met Yao Ming, chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association." With the new citizenship, Anderson is now eligible to represent China at the FIBA World Cup -- which gets underway on August 25 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia -- and also at the Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris next year. It is to be noted that FIBA has given the green signal to teams to have one naturalised player on their roster. While China announced an 18-man squad for the World Cup, FIBA had made it clear that the final rosters will be confirmed post a technical meeting ahead of the tournament. Thus, it will be interesting to see if Anderson will make the cut in the Chinese squad and further strengthen their line-up. It will be interesting to see if 29-year-old Anderson joins the Chinese squad ahead of the World Cup and how the striker adapts to a new team environment. The official Twitter handle of ICC has now shared a video, as part of their "It Takes One Day" campaign, in the run-up to the 2023 World Cup. The footage encapsulates some of the most remarkable moments in the illustrious history of the World Cup.

In a bid to make the campaign more gripping, the ICC decided to cast Shah Rukh, along with the current World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan, in the video. Apart from former England captain Morgan, other stalwarts like Muttiah Muralitharan, Jonty Rhodes are also seen in the clip. “History will be written and dreams will be realised at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. 837 players involved in the World Cup will receive a daily amount of $10,950, regardless of the amount of minutes they played. This is a big increase compared to the 2018 World Cup in Russia where players received $8,530 each. The payment will be split up and disbursed to the clubs where the players were registered in two&nbsp;years in the build up to the Qatar World Cup.&nbsp;

Almost 46 English clubs will be the largest beneficiaries as they are bound to receive $37,713,297 combined. Clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany, and France follow the English clubs. The huge number of clubs demonstrates the widespread impact of the tournament.

"That they oppose the aggression of Russia and Belarus against Ukraine and they are not current professional soldiers nor do they work in any other security organs of either of these countries.

Ahead of the third and final ODI between India and Australia, in Chennai on Wednesday (March 22), Team India's head coach Rahul Dravid spilled the beans on the side's preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup at home. Dravid revealed that the team management has already shortlisted 17-18 players for the showpiece event. In a pre-match presser, Dravid told in Chennai, "Probably not going to get too many more games in our conditions. We had the opportunity to play in these conditions which is great. Yeah, coming out of the IPL to a large extent we are pretty clear about the kind of squad and the players we want. We have narrowed it down to 17-18 players." 'Within the squad we will like to keep the options. Overall, we are pretty much in good space' Dravid further opined, "We have some guys who are recovering from injuries and will come into the frame based on their recovery. All in all, we are pretty much in good space. We are able to give those who we have zeroed in on as many playing opportunities. "There are a couple of different combinations that we would like to try. It is a big tournament, a long tournament in India, we want to have that flexibility in our squad. some times four fast bowlers, sometimes three spinners. Within the squad we will like to keep the options. just to ensure that we have covered all our bases for all conditions," he added. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are out of action due to injuries. With a lot of cricket to be played in the run-up to the ODI World Cup, in the form of IPL 2023, ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final and Asia Cup 2023, the team management will hope for players to remain fresh and free from injuries. This will be India's biggest challenge heading into the ICC event at home. As per reports, the ODI World Cup is set to kick off in India on October 05 and the final will be held in Ahmedabad on November 19. At present, India face Australia in the three-match ODI series finale, in Chennai, on Wednesday (March 22) with the series levelled at 1-1.
