Former Pakistan skipper Younis Khan has issued a stern warning to the Indian team as they prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Over the years, both India and Pakistan have had memorable encounters but the Men in Blue have gained the upper hand. However, according to Younis, Babar Azam’s side is better prepared for the tournament this time and has the required match-winners to win the contest at the showpiece event.

<h2>Younis backs Pakistan</h2>

"We have match-winners, we have individuals that can win you matches single-handedly, including Babar himself, Shaheen–Fakhar can do wonders, then, of course, we have seen Imam playing great innings," Younis said.

"The lesser you play against a team, that too against a big team – so whenever you will play them, especially if it is Pakistan and India, the pressure would be immense and tripled.”

The former great was part of the Pakistan side that lost to India in the 2003 and 2011 ODI World Cup and also spoke on the pressure both teams could face when squaring off in little over two months.

<h2>Asia Cup warm-up</h2>

Both India and Pakistan could meet thrice before the World Cup contest as they will be playing in the same group for the Asia Cup 2023 alongside Nepal. If both India and Pakistan manage to get the better of Nepal, they will meet in the Super Four stage of the completion. The arch-rivals could also feature in the Asia Cup 2023 final if both top the Super Four stage.

Rohit Sharma’s men in blue will face Babar Azam’s side on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. So far in the ODI World Cup history, India have never lost to Pakistan in seven matches. Pakistan’s only success against India in the World Cup came in the T20 World Cup in 2021 in UAE. India will be pushing for an eight-consecutive win against the Green Army as the World Cup nears.

Pakistan will start their World Cup campaign on Friday, October 6 against the Netherlands while India’s first contest will see them lock horns against five-time champions Australia in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.

ODI World Cup 2023: Former Pakistan skipper issues stern warning to Team India, says 'we have match-winners'

Esmee Brugts netted two long-range stunners as the&nbsp;Netherlands&nbsp;rediscovered their scoring touch in a crushing 7-0 win over Vietnam on Tuesday, reaching the Women's World Cup knockouts in style and locking up top spot in Group E. The Dutch had only scored once in each of their two previous games but, knowing goal difference could decide the group winners, were 4-0 up inside 25 minutes, with Brugts' curled effort the pick of the bunch. Her second goal in the 57th minute was a carbon copy of the first and put the&nbsp;Netherlands&nbsp;6-0 ahead before Jill Roord also bagged her second of the night to wrap up the emphatic win, the biggest of the tournament so far.

"I'll surely be looking back with a happy feeling," Brugts said. "I scored two but the rest of the team also played well. "The confidence level is the same as before the game. We wanted to be ranked first in the group. We managed to do so, and that's nice."

The&nbsp;Netherlands&nbsp;were expected to finish behind the United States in the group but the defending champions were held to a goalless draw by Portugal in Auckland and ended in second place in Group E, two points off the summit. The 2019 runners-up will travel to Sydney for their last 16 tie on Sunday and are likely to face Italy, who sit in second place behind Sweden in Group G.

Although they were missing all-time top scorer Vivianne Miedema due to injury, the Dutch had five different goalscorers against Vietnam, who had already been eliminated after losing their first two games.

Lieke Martens, Katja Snoeijs, Roord and Danielle van de Donk also scored in the first half and the&nbsp;Netherlands&nbsp;had a staggering 42 attempts at goal overall, including 17 on target. By contrast, Vietnam managed five shots but none on target. Dominique Janssen launched a wonderful ball from defence into Vietnam's penalty area, where Martens lobbed goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh to put the&nbsp;Netherlands&nbsp;ahead after eight minutes for her 60th international goal.

Snoeijs slotted in the second three minutes later after being set up by Van de Donk, and Brugts soon added another from distance, her strike from outside the box nestling into the top right corner. Roord, who had twice fired wide twice, finally got on the scoresheet after volleying in Janssen's cross. Roord drew a fantastic save from Kim Thanh just before halftime, but Van de Donk was on hand to tap in the rebound.

After Brugts' superb sixth with another fierce strike, Roord, who had hit the crossbar, headed in the seventh with seven minutes remaining. "I was afraid that the gap would be even bigger," Vietnam coach Mai Duc Chung said. "We have tried our best but it is clear that we cannot close the gap between us and the&nbsp;Netherlands. "We have conceded 12 goals in our three games, so our level is low even compared to other Asian teams. But I think our efforts have been great. In this journey, I am satisfied with the spirit of the team."

Football: Netherlands thrash Vietnam 7-0 to reach FIFA Women's World Cup knockouts

Nigeria produced the first major shock of the Women's World Cup as they stunned Australia 3-2 on Thursday to leave the co-hosts' tournament hopes on thin ice. Australia cut the deficit to one goal when Alanna Kennedy nodded home a header in the 10th minute of stoppage time but Nigeria rode out the final seconds to claim one of their finest wins in their ninth appearance at the global showpiece. The win in front of a huge crowd at Lang Park put Nigeria top of Group B level with Canada on four points but ahead on goal difference. Women's World Cup: MAJOR UPSET! Nigeria stun event co-hosts Australia 3-2

In a major development, the&nbsp;prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club's World Cricket Committee (WCC) has recommended the International Cricket Council (ICC) to 'substantially reduce' the bilateral men's ODIs following the conclusion of the 2027 World Cup.&nbsp; The committee has proposed the inclination towards bilateral ODIs only when they are within one year before every edition of the World Cup.

Over the years, a lot of questions have been raised about the plethora of bilateral ODI series being played across the globe. As not many of them draw much attention, the MCC feels there is a need to bring down the number of bilateral ODIs as it&nbsp;would&nbsp;mainly help in providing a much-needed&nbsp;space in the international cricketing calendar. The hectic international schedule has been the talk of the town for quite some time.

With Tests being prioritised by many current cricketers, along with the addition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the ever-increasing demand for T20Is, the onus has fallen on the ODI format; with several questioning its existence. In the recent past, many have questioned what exactly the format adds to an already-packed international calendar.

In this regard, the 13-member committee, led by former England captain Mike Gatting, is hopeful that "scarcity of ODI cricket would increase the quality&nbsp;achieved by removing bilateral ODIs, other than in the one year preceding each World Cup. This would, as a consequence, also create much-needed space in the global cricketing calendar."

<h2>'Test match financial audit'</h2>

Moreover, the MCC also raised concerns&nbsp;over the survival of Tests in nations outside the Big Three -- India, Australia and England. "The committee voiced particular concern for the survival of Test cricket in nations outside of India, Australia and England, with the associated impact brought about by a narrowing competition pool," mentioned the MCC release.

The committee has recommended that the ICC undertake a "Test match financial audit," which would, in turn, enable it to "identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme," after which "this need could be&nbsp;subsequently addressed via a separate Test match fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

The MCC further said, "The committee continues to hear of the growing unaffordability to host men's Test match cricket in many nations and concluded that the game currently lacks quantifiable data on the costs of hosting a Test match across its member nations. To address this lack of insight, it proposed a recommendation for the ICC to undertake a Test match financial audit to provide a clearer picture. This audit of operational costs versus commercial return would help the ICC identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme. This need could be subsequently addressed via a separate Test fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

<h2>Focus on developing women's cricket</h2>

On promoting women's cricket, the MCC release read, "It believes that the best way to support this objective is to establish a substantial and ring-fenced ICC Strategic Fund that can be allocated on a need-to-know basis to full member and associate nations that, amongst other key initiatives, fully commit to their women's pathway and national team."

MCC recommends ICC to cut down bilateral ODI series after 2027 World Cup

Ahead of the marquee India-Pakistan clash in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, in India, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi feels that equal importance should be given to all other games as well and not just the one versus Team India. Afridi, who was the Player-of-the-Match in Pakistan's only World Cup win over India&nbsp;during the 2021 T20 World Cup, stated that his countrymen should treat the India game as only one match and their aim is to win the ODI World Cup title.&nbsp;

"We should stop thinking and concentrating on just India versus Pakistan match because that’s just one game. We need to focus our thoughts on how to win the World Cup, and as a team, this will be our aim," Afridi was quoted as saying in a report by&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan. Speaking about the India-Pak battle, the two teams will face off at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 15.

The tournament will kick off with defending champions England facing New Zealand on October 05, in Ahmedabad, whereas India will meet Australia in their opening game, on October 08, in Chennai. On the other hand, Pakistan will meet Qualifier 1 (either Netherlands or Scotland) on October 06 in Hyderabad.

Afridi, 23, is one of the most important players in Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. In the recent past, the speedster has been injured -- since the 2022 T20 World Cup final -- but is now fully fit and put on a splendid show in the Vitality Blast. He is now gearing up for Pakistan's two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka&nbsp;in the island nation, which starts on July 16. Ahead of the series opener, Shaheen revealed that he is fully fit.

Not India vs Pakistan! Muttiah Muralitharan names the match he is looking forward to in ODI World Cup

Sikandar Raza delivered an all-rounder's masterclass to help Zimbabwe to a convincing six-wicket win over the Netherlands in their Cricket World Cup Group A qualifier on Tuesday. After first bagging four Dutch wickets, Raza then hit an entertaining unbeaten 102 off just 54 balls -- the fastest ever hundred in one-day internationals by a Zimbabwe player. The Netherlands had posted 315 for six wickets thanks to 88 from Vikramjit Singh, 83 from skipper Scott Edwards and 59 from Max O'Dowd.

Saqib Zulfiqar chipped in with a run-a-ball 34 not out to boost the total off their allotted 50 overs at the Harare Sports Club.

Raza proved to be the pick of the bowlers, picking up four wickets for 55 runs off his 10 overs.

Zimbabwe's run chase never seemed in doubt as Sean Williams hit a 58-ball 91 after openers Craig Ervine and Joylord Gumbie had contributed 50 and 40 runs respectively.

It was left to Raza to strike the winning runs, however, hoisting Logan van Beek over mid-off and into the stands for his eighth six in a spectacular display of power batting that had earlier seen him strike three consecutive sixes off Shariz Ahmad.

"I just wanted to go out there," said the 37-year-old Pakistan-born all-rounder, who sealed victory with 55 balls remaining.

"The&nbsp;platform was already set, I just wanted to stay humble and respect every ball but it was there, I went for it.

"As long as we win the game, we are happy and we are happy for each other's performance."

Group A's other match saw Nepal, who lost their opener to Zimbabwe, beat the United States by six wickets.

Karachi-born wicketkeeper Shayan Jahangir&nbsp;hit an unbeaten 100 to help the US team reach 207 all out off 49 overs after recovering from being 18 for four wickets.

Sushant Modani&nbsp;chipped in with 42 and Gajanand Singh&nbsp;26, but the next best score was 12 and seven batsmen failed to make double digits as Karan Khatri Chhetri and Gulsan Jha shared seven wickets between them.

Bhim Sharki hit an unbeaten 77 while Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee&nbsp;pitched in with 39 runs apiece as Nepal sealed the victory with ease, ending on 211/4 with 42 balls remaining.

It was a second defeat for the Americans after they went down to the West Indies in their opening game.

The action continues Wednesday, with Ireland facing Scotland and Oman taking on the United Arab Emirates in Group B matches at Bulawayo.

Only two of the 10 teams taking part in the three-week qualifier will make the World Cup to be played in India in October and November.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a fairytale end to IPL 2023 as they defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in a rain-marred summit clash by five wickets. CSK's win also marked the end of Ambati Rayudu's career as the veteran had already announced that IPL 2023 finale would be his last game in the cash-rich league. Thus, Rayudu ended his career in a fitting way by contributing with a crunch 8-ball 18 in CSK's stiff chase of 171 versus GT. His&nbsp;international career includes&nbsp;55 ODIs and six T20Is for India, scoring&nbsp;1,694 and&nbsp;42 runs, respectively.

Many believe Rayudu was one of those cricketers who could not play for India for a long time despite having immense potential. He enjoyed a long run in India's ODI squad ahead of the 2019 ODI World Cup but was dropped from the final squad for the mega event in England and Wales. His omission shocked many as Rayudu did a reasonably good job at No. 4 before the BCCI selectors opted for Vijay Shankar in place of him. During IPL 2023, when rain halted proceedings in the second half, former India head coach Anil Kumble recalled Rayudu's omission and said 'it was a huge blunder'.

<h2>'It was a huge blunder'</h2>

"Rayudu should have played the 2019 World Cup. Oh yes, there's no doubt about it. It was a huge blunder. You prepared him for that role for so long and his name just disappears from the squad. It was surprising nonetheless," Kumble said on Jio Cinema during the rain break in the IPL 2023 finale.

Talking about Rayudu's numbers in the IPL, the right-hander ended with&nbsp;4,348 runs in 204 games at an average of&nbsp;28.23 and a strike rate of&nbsp;127.54. The 37-year-old ended with as many as six IPL titles, joint-most along with Rohit Sharma. He won three during his run for MI and an equal number of trophies for CSK.

Former Mexico goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal, the first footballer to play in five World Cups, has died at the age of 93, local media announced on Tuesday.

'Tota', as Carbajal was known, appeared in goal for Mexico at the World Cups in Brazil 1950, Switzerland 1954, Sweden 1958, Chile 1962 and England 1966, in which he made 11 caps for his country.

Carbajal held the record of playing in five World Cups for 32 years until 1998 when German midfielder Lothar Matthaus reached the mark.

Carbajal's compatriots Rafael Marquez and Andres Guardado, along with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have also since equalled his record.

Although Carbajal said he was scouted by Real Madrid between 1950 and 1954, the Mexican never left his domestic league and played most of his career in his hometown with Club Leon.

Record-breaking World Cup goalkeeper Carbajal dies aged 93

Kylian Mbappe was in another league yet again, while the ever-reliable Olivier Giroud netted a record goal, to send defending champions France into the quarter-finals of the World Cup with a 3-1 victory against Poland on Sunday.

Les Bleus, who will face either Senegal or England for a spot in the last four, had to dig deep but scored on the stroke of halftime as Giroud became the outright all-time scorer for France with 52 goals before Mbappe's 74th-minute and stoppage-time screamers sealed Poland's fate.

Poland, in the knockout stage for the first time since 1986 and looking for a first quarter-final appearance since 1982, had a huge chance in the first half but the France midfield did a great job at cutting the feeding line to Robert Lewandowski, who reduced the arrears with a twice-taken, last-second penalty.

Keeper Hugo Lloris made his 142nd appearance and is now tied with Lilian Thuram as France's most-capped player, and his experience mattered when he made a superb quick save to deny Piotr Zielinski.

Coach Didier Deschamps had warned that there was more to Poland than Lewandowski and he was proved right at the Al Thumama stadium as the French were at times shaky at the back.

"It's not been easy because they're a well-organised team and we had to make some positional changes at halftime," said Deschamps.

"We're a united squad and tonight the players' impeccable behaviour has been rewarded. Now we're going to spend a little bit of time with our families."

France got off to a dominant start before abandoning possession, looking to create space in the back of the Polish defence after Mbappe's first forays failed to lead to clear chances.

Poland's poise came close to being rewarded in the 38th minute when the onrushing Zielinski's shot was parried by Lloris. It then came back into the midfielder's path but his second attempt was deflected by Theo Hernandez.

Jakub Kaminski followed, only for his shot to be saved close to the goal-line by Raphael Varane.

"We fought, we created a couple of chances, some really clear ones, especially in the first half; it’s a pity nothing went in," said Lewandowski.

NINE WORLD CUP GOALS

One minute from the break, however, France's tactics paid off.

Mbappe drew the defence to him and slid the ball through into the path of Giroud, who grabbed the inch of space he needed to clip the ball past Szczesny and net his third goal of the tournament.

The 36-year-old Giroud, who did not score in Russia four years ago, had drawn level with Thierry Henry on 51 goals after netting a double in the defending champions' 4-1 win over Australia in their opening Group D game.

France looked too casual, however, especially Mbappe, but the forward came up with a spine-chilling rising shot that went under the bar before curling another jaw-dropping shot into the top corner one minute into injury time.

They were his fourth and fifth goals in Qatar, and Mbappe became the first player to score nine World Cup goals before his 24th birthday, having netted as many as Argentina's 35-year-old Lionel Messi.

It helped Mbappe to erase painful memories from last year's European championship, when he missed the decisive penalty that sent Switzerland into the last eight after a shootout following a 3-3 draw.

A handball by Dayot Upamecano gave Lewandowski a chance of scoring a consolation goal with a penalty that was first saved by Lloris before being retaken -- and scored -- as the keeper did not have his feet on the line.&nbsp;

World Cup: Record Giroud, sublime Mbappe send France into quarter-finals with Poland win

Costa Rica bounced back on Sunday to win a shocking 1-0 match in Group E against Japan at the FIFA World Cup 2022. With this win, they severely damaged the Samurais’ chances of making it to the World Cup's round of 16. Costa Rica's Keysher Fuller stunned the Japanese in the game’s 81st minute by&nbsp;converting his team's first shot on target into a goal.&nbsp;

Japan, who had hoped to reach the round of 16 following&nbsp;their historic victory over Germany in the opener, suffered an untimely&nbsp;thrashing at the hands of Costa Rica, thus putting their&nbsp;ambitions of reaching the knockout stages in limbo.

Even though the experts had placed their bets on Japan before the kickoff,&nbsp;with Costa Rica now changing the qualification scenario completely&nbsp;after their win at the&nbsp;Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, it would be interesting to see what comes next during the last group stage matches.

Meanwhile, during the match, Japan looked sluggish overall. After a 2-minute opening burst, the rest of the game was seemingly played half-heartedly. They even tried changing gears in the second half by introducing attacking midfielder Kaoru Mitoma, but that didn't help them change the outcome in the end.

Fuller, during the fag end of the match, curled a shot, that ended up going past keeper&nbsp;Shuichi Gonda straight into the net giving Costa Rica much-needed relief.

Costa Rica bounced back on Sunday to win a shocking 1-0 match in Group E against Japan at the FIFA World Cup 2022. With this win, they severely damaged the Samurais’ chances of making it to the World Cup's round of 16. Costa Rica's Keysher Fuller stunned the Japanese in the game’s 81st minute by converting his team's first shot on target into a goal. Japan, who had hoped to reach the round of 16 following their historic victory over Germany in the opener, suffered an untimely thrashing at the hands of Costa Rica, thus putting their ambitions of reaching the knockout stages in limbo. Costa Rica beat Japan 1-0 with their only shot on target in the World Cup so far 😲 pic.twitter.com/P7O32NLrCY — B/R Football (@brfootball) November 27, 2022 × Even though the experts had placed their bets on Japan before the kickoff, with Costa Rica now changing the qualification scenario completely after their win at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, it would be interesting to see what comes next during the last group stage matches. Fuller, during the fag end of the match, curled a shot, that ended up going past keeper Shuichi Gonda straight into the net giving Costa Rica much-needed relief. FIFA World Cup 2022: Costa Rica inflict 1-0 defeat on sluggish Japan

A fleet of luxurious yachts bobbing in the harbour are among the five-star options as Dubai pulls out all the stops for well-heeled football fans who want to watch the World Cup in style.&nbsp; Those without tickets but with thousands of dollars to spare can view games on a big screen from the top deck of a $20,000-a-night yacht, against a backdrop of the Gulf financial hub's skyline.

With more than a hint of Dubai's trademark bling, the three-storey, 140-foot (43 metres) vessel has a big screen, jacuzzi, bar and a swanky lounge with L-shaped couches and a glittering crystal leopard statue.

The United Arab Emirates city, an hour's flight from World Cup host Qatar, is among the Gulf destinations expecting to cash in on a spillover of fans seeking more accommodation options and easier access to alcohol.

"This one is for $20,000 for an overnight charter," Xclusive Yachts marketing manager Jainney Thakker told AFP, pointing out the boat's features.

"We have a chef on board who offers gourmet cuisine from all over the world," Thakker added, as well as "free-flowing champagne".

The boat, which can accommodate up to 125 people, is among a number of pristine white yachts at Dubai's Marina Harbour, docked and ready for the influx of fans once the tournament kicks off on Sunday.

In one of its rooms, a large dining table flanked by upholstered chairs and bouquets of white roses is set with glass plates and silver cutlery.

An outdoor jacuzzi offers uninterrupted view&nbsp;from the stern. And for anyone who wants to sail to Qatar during the World Cup, the same company offers a separate package for a cool $100,000 for a roughly six-day trip. Thakker said her company has received more than 15 nightly bookings so far, mostly for groups of two to three people.

"The people who are booking with us are definitely the&nbsp;real VIPs... you know owners of super-cars, some of the really creme (de la creme) crowd," she said.

On shore, Dubai is gearing up with fan zones at parks, beaches and in the financial centre, while hotels are offering special packages.

Entrance to one fan zone in Dubai Harbour, with 330-square-metre screens, is $21 for a standing space. But a lounge table for eight people costs more than $920, while a premium suite for 15 is selling for $3,676, including unlimited booze.

The high-end offerings reinforce Dubai's well-cultivated reputation as a luxury destination, an image burnished by a series of reality TV shows including Netflix's "Dubai Bling", an international hit.

The show, following a cast described as millionaires, has topped the platform's viewing lists across the Middle East, although some object to the depiction of a city that is also home to swathes of low-skilled migrant workers.

To coax World Cup fans, the UAE is offering multiple-entry visas at the nominal fee of 100 dirhams ($27) to visiting supporters. Budget airline flydubai will run at least 30 return flights a day to Doha, part of a daily airlift of 160 shuttle services from Gulf cities laid on for the World Cup.

One Dubai hotel, on the man-made, frond-shaped Palm island, will be given over entirely to football fans.&nbsp; But it's not all champagne football for fans in Dubai. As a global inflation crisis sends prices soaring, many residents say they will forego World Cup festivities to save on costs.

Luxury yachts offer lavish stay to 'real VIPs' as Dubai readies for FIFA World Cup 2022

Qatar authorities said Wednesday they have seized 144 counterfeit World Cup trophies, the latest raid on fakes hitting the market ahead of the football tournament that starts later this month.

The interior ministry said officers launched an operation "acting on a piece of information about a website that promotes the sale of cups that mimic the true shape of the World Cup."

It released a photo showing the 144 life-sized trophies laid out across a floor and stated that "further legal procedures will be followed".

The ministry did not say where the trophies were found, nor whether suspects had been detained.

Football's governing body FIFA and Qatari authorities have stepped up warnings recently about distributing or buying World Cup fakes.

In June, Qatar warned drivers that it was illegal to have a World Cup logo on car number plates, after special plates were sold in online auctions.

One month earlier, police arrested five people for selling counterfeit clothes with the World Cup logo.

At the end of 2021, they raided a factory in the Gulf state producing perfume in bottles illegally using the World Cup brand.

Fake World Cup trophies seized in Qatar

A rampant&nbsp;United States&nbsp;set&nbsp;a new all-time women's&nbsp;basketball&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;scoring&nbsp;record&nbsp;Monday with a 145-69 demolition of South Korea, while Belgium booked their place in the quarter-finals. Eight of the Americans' 12-strong roster hit doubles figures, led by Brionna Jones with 24 points, eight rebounds and one assist in Sydney. A'ja Wilson drilled 20 points and Breanna Stewart 18 as the three-time defending champions ran riot, with Shakira Austin netting a field goal with just seconds left to ensure the&nbsp;record.

It was previously held by Brazil, who crushed Malaysia 143-50 in a group game at the 1990 tournament. "I thought we got off to a bit of a slower start than we wanted, but we had a group that came in that really changed things for us," said&nbsp;USA&nbsp;coach Cheryl Reeve, whose team are gunning for an 11th title overall. "We got more pressure and I think our size, the number of points we got in the paint was 90 or something. So our size was a problem for them and I thought we shared the ball well."

The&nbsp;United States, who had already qualified for the quarter-finals, were on another level both offensively and defensively, passing 30 or more points in all four frames against a Korean team that has struggled without marquee star Park Ji-su. Defeat left the Asian side facing a crunch Group A game on Tuesday against Puerto Rico with a quarter-final slot at stake. "I try to focus on how we played rather than the result of the game. I wanted our players to show their best ability and confidence on the court," said Korean coach Jung Sun-min. "Individually I think we played very hard and very well today."

Point guard Hind Ben Abdelkader poured in 18 points for Belgium as they ended Bosnia and Herzegovina's tournament dreams. Aiming to better their fourth place in 2018, they swept home 85-55 to join the&nbsp;United States&nbsp;in the last eight from Group A. Kyara Linskens and Julie Vanloo both chipped in with 13 points for their third straight win of the 10-day competition after an opening day loss to Reeve's&nbsp;United States.

Defeat ended any hope the Bosnians had in a hugely disappointing debut tournament, where they leaked 364 points over four consecutive defeats with Belgium successfully blunting the threat posed by dangerwoman Jonquel Jones. "We played a very good defence on Jones and as a team we were very focused," said Belgium coach Valery Demory.

The top four teams from each of the two groups progress to the quarter-finals with China also qualifying from Pool A if they beat Puerto Rico later. Serbia kept their hopes alive in a tough Group B, beating Mali 81-68. Canada are already through and face hosts Australia later, who can also qualify if they win. France will join them if they overcome Japan, whose ball movement and relentless defence that defined their run to the Tokyo Olympics final last year have so far been largely absent.

The International Cricket Council's (ICC) chief executive officer Geoff Allardice has said that the world body of the sport is planning to bring in parity in prize money for men's and women's tournaments from 2024 to 2031.

"One of the things that we did at the start of the cycle was we projected through this event cycle -- most of the ICC's finances are done with an eight-year view -- and what we've been trying to do over this cycle is bridge the gap between the women's prize money and the men's prize money," Allardice was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.com.

The ICC's chief executive made the statement when asked about the difference in the prize money of men's and women's World Cups.

So we're not there yet, but we're on the journey to getting towards prize money parity," he said.

An inconsistent India paid the price for a shoddy batting effort but England infused a new life into their title defence with a four-wicket win in a league-stage game of the ICC Women World Cup, here on Wednesday.

Inconsistency returned to haunt Indian batters as they were bundled out for a meagre 134 by England, who chased down the target in 31.2 overs to record their first win in the tournament after a hat-trick of defeats.

India got some runs on the board, thanks to previous game's centurion Smriti Mandhana, who top-scored for the side with a 35-run knock while wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh made 33.

With wickets falling intermittently, England bowled out India in 36.2 overs.
England also made a stuttering start to their chase as they lost both their openers -- Danni Wyatt (1) and Tammy Beaumont (1) -- cheaply with the scoreboard reading four for two in the third over.

Wyatt was first to depart in the second over, courtesy a sensational diving catch by Sneh Rana off medium-pacer Meghna Singh (3/26).

Veteran Jhulan Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament, then trapped Beaumont in the second over after India went for the review. It was 250th wicket for the pacer in ODIs.

England skipper Heather Knight (53 not out) and Nat Sciver (45 off 46) then steadied England innings, playing cautiously to reach 34 for 2 in 10 overs.

While Knight played a captain's knock by anchoring the chase, Sciver took the attack to the Indian bowlers, hitting as many as eight boundaries during her entertaining knock, in which she pulled off some pull shots.

With just 135 required for a win, what England needed was a decent partnership after the early blows and Knight and Sciver provided that by sharing 65 runs for the third wicket.

Sciver's innings was cut short by Pooja Vastrakar. It was a soft dismissal and against the run of play as Sciver spooned a length ball to Goswami while looking to work the ball on the on-side.

Amy Jones (10) then stitched a 33-run stand for the next wicket with Knight before the former fell to a stunning backward running catch by India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur at mid-on off Rajeshwari Gayakwad's bowling.

By then it was all over for India by then as England needed just 32 more runs.

The Indians picked up two more wickets in the 30th over before England completed the formality.

Meghna dismissed Sophia Dunkley (17) and Katherine Brunt (0) within a span of three balls in identical fashion -- caught behind by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh.

Earlier, in sharp contrast to India's performance against the West Indies in their last match when they rode on centuries from Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur to post 317 for 8, their highest total in the history of the showpiece event.

Charlie Dean (4/23) was the pick of the bowlers for England while Anya Shrubsole also chipped in with two wickets as the Indians failed to build a decent partnership.

Having suffered three defeats from as many matches so far, it is a must-win match for title holders and four-time champions England.

The defeat failed to dislodge India from the top four as the Mithali Raj-led side is occupying the third spot in the eight-team standings with four points from two wins and as many losses.

England, on the other hand, opened their tally and are placed seventh with two points from four matches.

The defeat failed to dislodge India from the top four as the Mithali Raj-led side is occupying the third spot in the eight-team standings with four points from two wins and as many losses. England, on the other hand, opened their tally and are placed seventh with two points from four matches.

"It's pretty painful losing three close games in a row," England captain Heather Knight said at the presentation.

"I guess at times we shot ourselves in the foot with the fielding, a batter like Wolvaardt, you can't give her that many opportunities or she'll make you pay.

"We're pretty gutted with the situation, it's not through lack of effort or a lack of graft. We're going to have to keep believing that we've got a small chance of making it through."

England, who earlier lost to Australia and the West Indies in their first two matches, still have a mathematical possibility to advance to the semi-finals but would also need other results in their favour.

Hayley Matthews smashed a brilliant century to help the West Indies to a dramatic three-run victory over tournament hosts New Zealand in the opening match of the 12th Women's World Cup at Mount Maunganui on Friday.

The all-rounder, moved up the order to open the batting in place of Rashada Williams, took the game to New Zealand from the start and pummelled 16 fours and a booming six in her 128-ball 119.

The 23-year-old Barbadian returned to take 2-41 with her offspin and set back the New Zealanders in their bid to chase down 260 runs for victory in front of a sparse, COVID-19 restricted crowd.

Sloppy West Indies fielding gave Sophie Devine at least two lives and the New Zealand captain took full advantage with a battling 108 that kept the hosts in with a sniff of victory.

Seamer Chinelle Henry finally ousted the home captain with a brilliant juggled catch off her own bowling to set up a dramatic final five over under the Bay Oval lights.

Katey Martin (44) and Jess Kerr (25) needed six runs from the final six deliveries but Deandra Dottin, bowling her first over of the match, dismissed them both and ran out Hannah Rowe on the penultimate ball to leave New Zealand 256 all out.

"I thought we were right in it until the last over," said Devine.

"You don't get much more clutch than a bowler coming in in the 50th over and doing what Dottin did. So full credit to them but we've got to move on quickly."

Matthews said coach Courtney Walsh had called her on Thursday and told her she would be opening in place of Williams, who was ruled out of the match by concussion protocols.

Hayley Matthews smashes ton as West Indies upsets New Zealand in Women's World Cup opener

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said that plans to hold a biennial World Cup are a "no go" for everyone in football, adding that FIFA has also come to the same realisation.

The idea of a World Cup every two years has been gathering steam with FIFA president Gianni Infantino trying to get support from national federations, saying the switch would create an extra $4.4 billion in revenues for the world body.

Infantino insisted in December that he had majority backing to make the change despite opposition from European clubs and top leagues, and contrary to what the president of the continent's governing body believes.

"A biennial World Cup is a no go for everyone in football," Ceferin told the Financial Times Football Business Summit. "I am glad FIFA has realised that as well."

I had a discussion with FIFA's president about it yesterday. We cannot say football on other continents cannot be developed, but we should be aligned and it should not hurt European and South American Federations.

"We have discussions but as far as I am concerned, a biennial World Cup is off the table. I am sure we will come to a solution with FIFA soon."

FIFA did not immediately comment when approached by Reuters.

Ceferin also launched a fresh attack on attempts to form a European Super League, given what is going on in Ukraine at the moment.

Media reports suggest the breakaway, which spectacularly failed to get off the ground last April, could come back, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus still interested in forming the league.

"First they launch this nonsense of an idea in the middle of the pandemic, now we are reading articles every day that they are planning to launch another idea now, in the middle of a war," Ceferin added.

'Right decision': Robert Lewandowski on Poland's decision to not play World Cup qualifier with Russia

Poland will not play a World Cup qualifying soccer match against Russia next month because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the president of Poland's Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, said on Saturday.

Kulesza said the association was in talks with its Swedish and Czech counterparts regarding playoff matches set for March to fill a slot for the World Cup.

"In light of the escalation of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, the Polish national team is not going to play a match against Russian Republic," Kulesza said on Twitter.

Team India have an action-packed calendar before the T20 World Cup, which is set to be held in Australia later this year. Before the national side gears up to face Sri Lanka in the three T20Is at home, as per a report, BCCI is planning to field more teams parallelly as more bilateral series have been added to Rohit Sharma-led India's schedule prior to the showpiece event Down Under.

After India host Sri Lanka in three T20Is and two Tests, the Indian players will take part in IPL 2022, which will be followed by five home T20Is versus South Africa, a one-off T20I versus hosts Ireland and fifth and final Test (from the incomplete 2021 series) against England, in the United Kingdom. India will then reportedly travel to West Indies and Zimbabwe. The Asia Cup will also take place during the same time, hence, the Indian cricket board might field two teams simultaneously; with a second-stringed team playing against Ireland and Zimbabwe.&nbsp;

FIFA has invited the coaches of all 211 men's national teams to a meeting about their plans for a biennial World Cup and new international match calendar, the organisation said on Monday.

Video conferences for the coaches will be held on Tuesday and Thursday and will be led by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, FIFA`s head of Global Football Development.

UEFA have vowed to oppose FIFA`s plans until they are dropped by FIFA and sources told Reuters on Friday that European bodies will refuse to participate in any new tournament and calendar if the plans are pushed through at a planned vote in December.

"As a coach of the men`s national teams, their input is essential," Wenger, who has been central to the development of FIFA`s plans, said in a statement.

"Opportunities for us to come together are few and far between, but we must embrace these occasions as such dialogue helps us all to protect the unique place that football has in the world and to make it truly global."

FIFA has argued that a biennial World Cup would lead to increased chances for countries to play in the tournament and that a streamlined qualification process, with fewer international breaks, would reduce travel for players.

Mike Hussey, the former Australian batter, is confident about his country's chances at the men's T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.&nbsp;

Despite the fact that Australia hasn't won a T20I series since February 2020, losing to England, India, New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh, Hussey believes Australia can succeed if they adjust to the UAE's conditions.&nbsp;

"I'm actually pretty optimistic about Australia's chances. I think we've got a really good team, a dangerous team. If they can get their confidence up, adapt well to the conditions, then I think it`s a pretty darn good team. Hopefully, they can get on a roll," Hussey told foxsports.com.au on Sunday.

Brazil star Neymar says next year's World Cup in Qatar could be the last of his career.

The comments by the 29-year-old striker were made in the documentary Neymar &amp; The Line Of Kings,&nbsp;produced by DAZN. An excerpt was published on the channel's Twitter feed on Sunday.

"Man, I think it will be my last World Cup," Neymar said.

"I am facing it like the last World Cup because I don't know whether I will be able to, mentally, to endure more soccer."

"I will do everything possible to get there very well," he added.

"I will do all I can to win it with my country and realize my dream, the biggest since my boyhood. I hope I can achieve it."

Neymar will play with Brazil later on Sunday at Colombia in a World Cup qualifying match. The Seleo leads the 10-team round robin competition with 27 points after nine games.

The striker did not play in Thursday's 3-1 Brazil win at Venezuela due to suspension.

The match in Barranquilla will mark Neymar's return since the 2-0 win against Peru on Sept. 10, in which he turned in a key Brazil performance with an assist and a goal. Despite his efforts, Neymar made clear after the match that he is upset with the treatment he gets at home.

I don't know what else I need to do with this shirt for people to respect Neymar,&nbsp;he said. Local media accused the striker of being out of shape in the 1-0 win at Chile earlier in September, which prompted the striker to walk around shirtless during training to show how fit he is.

Against Peru, Neymar overtook Romrio as Brazil's top goal scorer in World Cup qualifiers, with 12 goals. He is also approaching Pele's record of 77 official goals for Brazil. The Paris Saint-Germain striker has scored 69 times for Brazil.

Neymar has so far played at two World Cups. In 2014, he picked up a back injury in the quarterfinals against Colombia, which stopped him from playing in the 7-1 humiliation against Germany in the semifinals.

In the most recent edition of the tournament, Neymar had just returned from a serious foot injury and turned in an unimpressive performance in Brazil's 2-1 quarterfinals defeat to Belgium. He left Russia amid heavy criticism for his apparently exaggerated reaction to being fouled.

Neymar won the 2013 Confederations Cup title with Brazil. He has also won the gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The striker was injured before the 2019 Copa America, which the Seleo won at home.

Neymar says World Cup in Qatar may be his last

European clubs joined forces on Friday to rebuke FIFA for trying to railroad through plans for biennial World Cups, warning of a destructive impact on world football.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has infuriated the European Club Association, which is accusing the global governing body of being in breach of legal obligations with its rush to radically overhaul the sport and gain more control.

FIFA has been pushing internal interviews to media with retired players and former managers as it rushes to sweep up support from national associations for the plan to double the frequency of men's World Cups from every four years to two, while making the women's game appear to be an afterthought. UEFA has already expressed its concerns about FIFA's conduct and that has been echoed by the ECA, which represents 234 clubs.

The ECA said it would back a more balanced approach to club and international football by reducing the five windows typically in the year for players to be released for national team games to reduce the burden on players. It is the lack of apparent engagement by FIFA on the required new international match calendar (IMC) from 2024 that is troubling the clubs.

ECA has therefore followed with grave concern and alarm FIFA's launch of active PR campaigns and much pretence," the club body said in a statement to The Associated Press, "apparently seeking to railroad through reforms to the IMC, particularly the introduction of a biennial World Cup."

All 211 member federations of FIFA have been invited to online talks on Thursday on the new IMC.
The plans surfaced again in May when Saudi Arabia's federation nominally proposed at the congress in May for FIFA to explore biennial World Cups. The Saudis have emerged as one of the closest allies of Infantino, who has made trips this year to see Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It is former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who has been deployed to sell the case for World Cups every two years in his role as FIFA chief of global football development. He gave presentations to the media before bodies such as UEFA on his vision for the match calendar after 2024 which requires the approval of the ECA so clubs release players for tournaments. FIFA was in light of the range of predisposed decisions and communications ... In direct and unilateral breach of certain legal obligations," the ECA said.

Aside from the notable lack of genuine (or indeed any) consultation, and as many stakeholders have pointed out in recent days, FIFA's proposals would lead to a direct and destructive impact on the club game, both domestically and internationally,&nbsp;the ECA added.

In addition, the proposals would put players' health and wellbeing at risk. They would dilute the value and meaning of club and country competitions." The ECA pointed to how the plans would ?diminish and conflict? with women's football that would lose their right to stage events in a European summer without a men's tournament.
Any decisions relating to (the international match calendar's) future can only come about with the consent of football clubs,? the ECA said, with player welfare at their heart and in keeping with legally binding obligations which ordinarily should not need re-stating.

The ECA has, however, backed an expansion of the Champions League in conjunction with UEFA with the group stage due to jump from six to 10 matches per team from 2024. The only leading European clubs who are no longer ECA members are Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus over their ongoing pursuit of a European Super League. The breakaway was launched and collapsed in April, leading to Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi taking over as head of the ECA from Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli.

Infantino was accused of being complicit in the formation of the breakaway plans by Europe's elite before belatedly denying he colluded with the rebels after months of silence. Infantino's links to the Super League have heightened suspicions within European football about his motivations for more regular World Cups that give FIFA an even greater influence on a sport with the club game at its heart.

The reform of the IMC must be founded on jointly agreed outcomes, the ECA said, "balanced in the interests of all, following honest and detailed consultation ? not simply railroaded in the singular interests of FIFA on the back of a series of PR campaigns.

Clubs accuse FIFA of legal breach, railroading World Cup overhaul

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed FIFA's proposal to stage a World Cup every two years is "all about money" as former France star Patrick Vieira warned it would damage the standing of the competition.

The World Cup is currently played every four years, with the next edition scheduled for Qatar in 2022.

But FIFA president Gianni Infantino promised this week there would be decisions by the end of the year on the controversial plan, which is part of a move to cut out what he called "too many meaningless matches".

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, now director of development at FIFA, has backed the proposal from world football's governing body.

However, Aleksander Ceferin, president of European governing body UEFA, warned the plan would "dilute" the World Cup and the World Leagues Forum said it would "undermine players' welfare".

Fans groups from across the globe also voiced their opposition to the idea.

Klopp was strongly critical of the plans in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

"There is no other sport in the world with such a relentless calendar, no physical sport," he said.&nbsp;

"There are more demanding sports like athletics and marathons but they don't run 20 or 30 or 40 a year.

"We all know why it's happening. Whatever people say that it's about giving different countries opportunities, in the end it's all about money. That's how it is."

Klopp said if the World Cup became a biennial event it was certain that the European Championship would switch to being held every two years, meaning international players would be limited to a three-week break every year.

"At one point somebody has to start understanding that without the players -- the most important ingredients of this wonderful game -- we cannot play it," he said.

Crystal Palace manager Vieira, who played under Wenger at Arsenal, called his old boss a "visionary" but conceded having the World Cup every two years would lessen the importance of the competition.

"For me I think that it will lose a little bit of its importance to have the World Cup every two years," said Vieira, who won the 1998 World Cup with France.

"Something we need to take into consideration is the physical aspect and what we are asking the players to do," he added.&nbsp;

"We have to evaluate the risk of having the players play so many games with so little rest."
