A car has crashed into a school building in Southwest London's Wimbledon region. According to reports, a child has been killed in the tragic incident. Six other children and two adults were also injured as a gold-cutter Land Rover crashed into the study preparatory school.

<p>It certainly kept Djokovic honest but the second seeded Serb, bidding to win a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon and fifth in a row, always looked in control.</p>

<p>Thompson, ranked 70, was within two points of levelling the match at the sharp end of the second set.&nbsp;But once Djokovic came through the tiebreak with a couple of timely aces thrown in, there was only really likely to be one outcome.</p>

<p>That said, Thompson, given loud backing by the Centre Court crowd desperate to see a contest, refused to slink away.</p>

<p>But serving at 5-6 in the third set the Australian could not keep Djokovic at bay and he netted a volley to end the contest.</p>

<p>Djokovic extended his winning streak on grass to 30 matches, with his last defeat coming against Marin Cilic in the 2018 Queen's Club final, but admitted he was pushed hard.</p>

<p>"He was a bit unlucky in the second set. He had some chances but yeah, he played a great match and deserves a big round of applause for sure," Djokovic said.</p>

<p>While Djokovic certainly does not need any help as he aims for a 24th Grand Slam title to match the all-time record of Margaret Court, things are certainly falling his way.</p>

Environmental protesters interrupted play at Wimbledon twice on day 3. The protesters were from the group- just stop oil - notorious for having blocked sporting and other events in the past. They released orange ticker tape mixed with jigsaw puzzle pieces. After the incidents, ministers met with police and organisers of major sports to discuss increasing efforts to prevent such disruptions. One of the protesters sat down cross-legged on the turf. Security staff quickly removed them. The crowd also began booing protesters with chants of 'get off'.

Kenin, aged 24, had won a Grand Slam at 21 and was once an upcoming star of of the USA - a place which now belongs to Gauff.</p>

<p>Kenin, ranked no. 128 ahead of the Wimbledon, had to go through three qualifying matches to enter the main draw. Since winning her only major in 2020 (Australian Open), Kenin had to deal with multiple injuries including a battle with COVID-19. The 24-year-old, however, seemed content after the win.</p>

<p>"I know where I was," Kenin said as reported by the Associated Press, "and where I should be."</p>

<p>Gauff, while speaking on the loss, said, "I didn't really put too much pressure on her. I felt like she could make a ball on the court (and) didn't have to be as good — and I wouldn't do much with it. That's what happened."</p>

<p>Gauff, however, acknowledged that coming from qualifiers, she expected Kenin to play with confidence.</p>

<p>"With three wins under her belt from ‘qualies,' I knew she was going to be playing with confidence," Gauff said.</p>

<p>Responding to the question on whether Kenin could reach the heights she once was at, Gauff said, "I mean, it's always possible for somebody to get back to that level. She's still on the younger end of her career. I think with how she played today, it shouldn't be too long."</p>

<p>Gauff, who made her breakthrough aged 15 at Wimbledon in 2019, is still only 19 and is touted as one of the rising stars in the sport.</p>

<p>The veteran star started the game beautifully with a break advantage before she fell on the court in the third game and could never recover from the fall. Williams was down a breakpoint in the third game and was moving to her left to block a backhand volley from Svitolina. Venus, however, slipped and fell as she approached the net and screamed in agony. <p>Nick Kyrgios withdrew from Wimbledon on Sunday with a wrist injury, stripping the tournament of one its headline acts 12 months after the firebrand Australian finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic.</p>

<p>"I'm really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year," the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram, explaining that he had hurt his wrist as he prepared in vain to play in Mallorca last week.</p>

<p>Kyrgios had been an injury doubt in the build-up to Wimbledon.</p>

<p>"As a precaution, I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn't have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.</p>

<p>"I'll be back, and as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans."</p>

<p>Kyrgios had been due to face wild card David Goffin in the first round at the All England Club on Monday.</p>

<p>His place in the draw will be taken by a lucky loser from qualifying.</p>

<p>Earlier Sunday, Kyrgios, whose lone match in 2023 came in Stuttgart last month, said that his battle to regain full fitness had been "brutal".</p>

<h2>Dreading coming back</h2>

<p>However, he added: "I didn't miss the sport. I was almost dreading coming back a little bit, but it's my job."</p>

<p>He also admitted there remained "question marks" over his ability to play best-of-five sets after such a lengthy absence.</p>

<p>"I feel like to the outside world, people don't understand. Just because it's not contact, it's not that physical.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I dare someone to go out there and play four hours with Novak and see how you feel afterwards."</p>

<p>At Wimbledon in 2022, the Australian dominated most of the headlines.</p>

<p>His high-octane, flamboyant shot-making was accompanied by signature clashes with rivals and officialdom.</p>

<p>He was fined $10,000 for spitting and $4,000 for shouting obscenities -- one of which sent the British tabloids into meltdown as it was within earshot of eight-year-old Prince George.</p>

<p>Kyrgios also fought out an explosive third round clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas with the Greek even describing him as "evil" and a "bully".</p>

<p>In the final against Djokovic, he demanded a woman be ejected from the crowd for consuming "700 drinks, bro".</p>

<p>"In a way it was good to be home. Obviously heartbreaking as well," said Kyrgios as he reflected on his time out of the sport.</p>

<p>"Last year I felt like everything kind of came together for me. Finals of Wimbledon. Barely lost a match. Had the third best season on tour.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Obviously my body was just crying out for some sort of rest."</p>

<p>For Kyrgios, being away from the tennis courts didn't mean an absence from the public view.</p>

<p>In May, his car was stolen from his mother at gunpoint outside the family home in Canberra.</p>

<p>Before that incident, Kyrgios pleaded guilty in February to assaulting a former girlfriend.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He avoided a conviction for what the magistrate called a "single act of stupidity".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kyrgios has also been the headliner in the Netflix series "Break Point" where he spoke candidly about his mental health.</p>

<p>He admitted he had considered suicide and ended up in a psychiatric ward in 2019.</p>

<p>"It took me seven, eight years to be able to just open up about that," he explained on Sunday.</p>

<p>"I feel great now. It's hard because I'm putting so much expectation on myself. Compared to that time, I'm feeling a lot better."</p>

<p>Three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray is gearing up for Wimbledon 2023 edition. The veteran's career has been marred with injury concerns. Before he decides to call it quits, Murray will be eager to add more titles to his cabinet. Recently, the Brit spoke at length on his retirement plans and revealed that he wants to sign off on his 'own terms'.</p>

<p>Speaking to Sky Sports, the 36-year-old said that he is focused on making the most of the opportunities in the last phase of his professional career. In 2018, he underwent hip surgery which kept him out of action for almost the whole season. However, now he wants to remain injury free and compete hard till he decides to step aside. Murray revealed that he plans to 'keep playing a bit longer' but hopes no big injury derails his progress.</p>

<h2>Another injury would mean the end for me: Murray</h2>

<p>Murray said, “I hope not, but you never know. It's why athletes need to make the most of it while they're still able to because if I was to have another big injury or if something happened to the metal hip, that would be me finished. I wouldn't try to come back from another operation or major surgery again so I want to keep playing a bit longer."</p>

"I know it's not going to be going on forever, but I have an idea of when I would like to finish and it's not this year's Wimbledon. I don't know exactly which tournament it would be or where it will be. I just have an idea of how much longer I would like to play for and I don't want to put myself in a position like before I had the operation."</p>

<p>“I want to finish on my own terms. I want to finish on the court where I feel I can still do myself justice and playing at a really high level. I definitely feel I can do that for a couple more years,”&nbsp;Murray concluded.</p>

<p>Murray occupies the 39th spot in the latest ATP rankings and&nbsp;recently emerged on top to claim&nbsp;the Nottingham Open title before facing a first-round&nbsp;exit&nbsp;at the Queen’s Club Championships. <p>Carlos Alcaraz remains in the hunt for his first grass court title as the world number two beat former champion Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals at Queen's Club on Friday.</p>

<p>Alcaraz admitted earlier in the week to watching videos of Roger Federer and Andy Murray to learn how to move on the grass and appears to be finding his feet on the surface ahead of Wimbledon next month.</p>

<p>Since surviving a marathon first round encounter with French lucky loser Arthur Rinderknech, Alcaraz has not dropped a set to reach the last four in London.</p>

<p>A break in the first game was enough to win the Spaniard the first set as Dimitrov missed three chances to break back in the sixth game.</p>

<p>The Bulgarian, who won the Queen's title in 2014, got off to a flier in the second set as he led 3-0.</p>

<p>Alcaraz battled back to lead 4-3, only to give the break back for 4-4.</p>

<p>However, the US Open champion was gifted the chance to serve for the match when an error-strewn game from Dimitrov threw away his serve to love.</p>

<p>Alcaraz took full advantage to set up a semi-final clash with Sebastian Korda, who beat British number one Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-6 (7/1).</p>

<p>"Grigor is a really top player in every surface, but even more here on grass, he feels the ball very well," said Alcaraz.</p>

<p>"I played very well since the beginning. The two matches before helped me a lot."</p>

<p>Second seed Holger Rune said he was fired up by Lorenzo Musetti's smashed overhead that hit the Dane in his 6-4, 7-5 quarter-final win.</p>

<p>Alcaraz will be playing in only the third grasscourt tournament of his career at tour level this week and he said his practice on the surface had been limited.</p>

<p>"I arrived in London Saturday morning and I had my first practice on grass," he said. "I wasn't able to practice too much at home as we have no grass courts. "I need to adapt my movement and shots on the grass, but I'm really happy with the practice I have had here."</p>

<p>"There are a lot of players who slice on grass. I'm not one of them so I have to think about movement. I have to be focused on every movement and shot. "For me it's more tiring when you're moving on grass. It's totally different, so you have to be really specific."</p>

<p>The total prize money on offer at Wimbledon has risen to a record&nbsp; $56.52 million&nbsp;for the Championships this year, a 11.2% increase on 2022, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) said on Wednesday. Winners and runners-up of the men's and women's singles finals will also see their prize money rising to previous levels in 2019, where they received $2.98&nbsp;million and $1.49&nbsp;million pounds, respectively.</p>

<p>The prize money for winners fell to $2.6&nbsp;million in 2021 before it was increased to $2.54 million last year. The qualifying competition prize fund has also received a 14.5% increase on last year while any player losing a first-round match is assured of at least $69,000 -- an increase of 10% on 2022.</p>

<p>"We are delighted to offer record prize money to the players competing at the Championships this year, with double digit increases across the majority of events," said AELTC chairman Ian Hewitt.</p>

<p>"Our ambition with this distribution is to return the singles champions and runners-up prize money to the levels in 2019 prior to the (COVID-19) pandemic whilst... providing deserved support for players in the early rounds of the event."</p>

As things stand Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek will be the favourites to win the Championships this year. Both recently won the French Open and have momentum on their side going into the third Grand Slam of the year.</p>

<p>For Djokovic, it could be another record-breaking Slam as he searches for his 24th title. He currently has 23 Grand Slam titles, most by any men’s singles player while another win will see him go level with great Margaret Court for most Singles titles in a Slam.</p>

Kyrgios, runner-up at the Wimbledon Championships in 2022 was struggling with mental health issues and stated 2019 was the lowest point in his career before he visited a psychiatric ward in London. The incident came into the limelight after Kyrgios opened up about it in the latest OTT documentary.</p>

<h2><strong>Kyrgios opens on suicide on contemplation</strong></h2>

<p>“2019 was the lowest point of my career. That pressure, having all eyes on you, the expectation, I couldn’t deal with it,” Kyrgios said while speaking in the latest episodes of Break Point, the Netflix documentary.</p>

<p>“I hated the kind of person I was. I was drinking, abusing drugs, lost my relationship with my family, pushed all my close friends away.</p>

<p>“You could tell I was hurting. My whole arm was covered in scars – that’s why I actually got my arm sleeve to cover it all. I was genuinely contemplating if I wanted to commit suicide.</p>

<p>“I lost at Wimbledon, I woke up and my dad was just sitting next to me on the bed and he was like full-blown crying. That was a bit wake-up call for me. I was like, okay, I cannot keep doing this. I ended up in a psych ward in London to figure out my problems.”</p>

<p>Kyrgios has since put the incident behind him and won his first Grand Slam title in 2022 after he won the Australian Open men’s doubles crown. Kyrgios partnered with Thanasi Kokkinakis to defeat the world's No. 1 doubles team, Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić, en route to the quarterfinals and sealed the deal.</p>

<p>In the singles, he was successful at the Wimbledon Championships having reached the finals before he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final. It was Kyrgios’ first major singles final at a Slam before he was knocked out in the quarterfinal of the US Open. He did not play at the Australian Open, his home Slam with an injury.</p>

<p>Kyrgios is expected to play at Wimbledon Championships this year but has not played much tennis. He made his comeback in Stuttgart but lost out 7-5, 6-3 to Wu Yibing on Tuesday, June 13.</p>

Nick Kyrgios opens up on suicide contemplation after Wimbledon 2019, reveals he checked into psychiatric ward

<p>Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova said she will remove the logo of Russian sponsor Tatneft from her kit so she can compete at Wimbledon this year.</p>

<p>Wimbledon banned Russian and Belarusian players in 2022 over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine but said in March it would accept them as neutral athletes for this year’s championships.</p>

<p>Tournament organisers have said players would be prohibited from expressing support for the invasion, which Moscow calls a “special military operation”, and must not receive funding from the Russian or Belarusian states.</p>

<p>Kudermetova’s sponsor Tatneft is an oil and gas company.</p>

<p>“I think for Wimbledon, it’s not allowed to play with the badge from Russia, I know that,” Kudermetova told reporters at the Madrid Open on Monday.</p>

<p>“If I would like to play Wimbledon, I need to take the badge off,” she added.</p>

<p>While there is a ban on the players from Russia and Belarus from competing at tennis events they can still participate under a neutral flag. However, with little over a year before the Olympics, players from both nations will have to wait for a judgment. As things stand, they are unlikely to make the Olympics in Paris while a decision is pending.</p>

<p>The Scot added: "My understanding is that they are going to be allowed to play and I'm not going to be going nuts if that is the case.</p>
