"I am sympathetic to both sides of the puzzle. I totally respect and agree with a lot of aspects of the stance Cricket Australia has in terms of women's cricket in Afghanistan, but there's also another side to it, of promoting and growing the game.

"This is the second time Australia have backed out of a bilateral series, and I talked to Rashid Khan. He was really disappointed, more so because the Afghanistan people love cricket, and for them cricket is one of the few things they enjoy and brings happiness, and the fact they were going to play Australia was going to be huge, and they don't get to see that now. So it actually hurts the people, and the people are separate from the government," he added.

The comments come after Afghan skipper Rashid said 'there's no solution' to Australia's refusal to play bilateral cricket with the Asian country.

The two teams, however, keep meeting in ICC event, most recently in the ongoing T20 World Cup where Afghanistan came out as winner in a humdinger of a match. Afghans had come close to beating Australia in last year's ODI World Cup as well but Glenn Maxwell's extra-ordinary innings saw the eventual champions power through.

Currently, Afghanistan have an outside chance to making it to the semis of 2024 T20 WC, given they beat Bangladesh and Australia lose to India in their last Super 8 stage match.

The ball was changed in 37th over of the Australian innings on day four before play was halted due to rain and only 11 ball could be bowled prior to that.&nbsp;

The change came in after a Mark Wood-bouncer hit Khawaja on the head and the umpires deemed that it had gone out of shape. Khawaja, at the post-match presentation, however, said that the new ball was very different.

"We started off really well," Khawaja said. "The big thing was that ball. As soon as they changed that ball, the first over they changed that ball I knew straightaway this ball is very different. I went straight up to Kumar and said 'how old is this ball you've given them because it feels like it's about eight overs old.' You could see the writing on both sides and it hit my bat so hard.

Sharing his thoughts over what young kids in the crowd must be going through hearing such words every now and then, Khawaja, who is also a father, said,&nbsp;"Personally, if I am coming to the cricket and watching the cricket, I wouldn't want my kids to be around that. If I saw that, I would 100 per cent make a complaint or just leave."

Khawaja said upon complaining about the same to the local crowd, he often heard&nbsp;that when the English fans travel Down Under, they get the same treatment.

"If you talk about it to England guys, they say we are equally as rough when [they go to Australia]. I don't agree with it either way. I don't think it's the right thing to do," Khawaja said.

Australia's best batter so far in this Ashes, Khawaja said he is not a fan of such behaviour as he's someone who plays and watches sports for the fun factor and doesn't like getting personal over it.

"It can be a little disappointing at times, and I think we can take it too far in Australia. I'm not a big fan of it. I know watching a lot of sport and loving sport that it happens around the world. You watch the NBA [and] it happens there. Particularly when crowds can get real close to you, which they can in cricket. It is what it is, I don't agree with it," the left-handed batter said.

Things went out of hand after Jonny Bairstow's controversial dismissal on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test, at Lord's, on Sunday (July 02). After the Englishman ducked a slower bouncer from Cameron Green, during his side's unsuccessful 371-run chase, he was caught wandering off the crease and, as a result, was stumped by Alex Carey. His mode of dismissal sparked a huge controversy as the ones slamming it brought forward the 'Spirit of Cricket' debate whereas majority favoured Carey's action as it remains within the laws of the game.

After Bairstow's dismissal, Stuart Broad joined captain Ben Stokes (155) in the middle as they added 110 runs before England folded for 327 in pursuit of 371. During the Broad-Stokes partnership, the former took a dig at Carey for his actions. Moreover, the members of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) also joined in and mocked Aussie opener Usman Khawaja when both sides dispersed for the lunch break on Sunday. With MCC members also targetting the Australians, things went out of hand and many slammed their actions.

Now, former England captain David Gower has slammed MCC members for reckling Khawaja. He found their action 'horribly ironic' and said that 'it is a sort of pack mentality' which he does not appreciate. He lost his cool as Khawaja is 'actually the nicest man in cricket' and the MCC members should not have targetted him.

"I found it horribly ironic, and horrible is the keyword, that MCC members were attacking Usman Khawaja, who is actually the nicest man in cricket. It's just wrong. I was in Australia for the last Ashes series and I watched him make hundreds there and watched him make his hundreds here as well. First of all, it's picking on the wrong man. It's a sort of pack mentality which I don't like, I absolutely hate," Gower said while speaking to SEN's Sportsday.

"MCC condemns the behaviour witnessed and once again we re-iterate our apology to Cricket Australia. We are thoroughly disappointed to be talking about poor behaviour when the Long Room, as stated by Pat Cummins himself, is otherwise renowned for being “really welcoming”. It has been a thrilling day to finish off a wonderful five days of Test cricket,” read the statement further.

Cricket Australia had raised the issue of its players being abused in the Long Room with the MCC and had asked the club to investigate the matter.

"Australian management has requested the Marylebone Cricket Club [MCC] investigate several incidents involving spectators in the members area during lunch on day five of the Lord's Test.

"It is alleged players and staff from the Australian team were verbally abused, with some being physically contacted, as they made their way to lunch through the members area," a Cricket Australia spokesperson had said.&nbsp;

Australia openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner, in particular, got engaged with the members while going back at lunch in the Long Room. The TV footage also showed Khawaja giving it back to the members before stewards intervened.

Speaking on Big Sports Breakfast, Clarke didn’t mince his words and slammed Robinson for the send-off he gave to Khawaja. Known to be vocal even during his time, Clarke said that had it not been about senior bowlers getting injured, Robinson wouldn’t have even been considered for the first Test.&nbsp;

“He needs to shoosh. If England were fully fit, you wouldn’t even get a game, Ollie. If Jofra Archer was playing, or if [Mark] Wood had been playing and was fully fit, old mate — I don’t know what town he plays for — he’d be back playing clubbies,” Clarke said.

He added if someone like James Anderson had given such a send-off, it would still make sense given his credentials in Test cricket, but Robinson, who Clarke feels has been around for a very little time, must look to take wickets only.

“I actually don’t know what he’s doing. If James Anderson is saying all this, he’s got street cred (credentials). He’s played 180 Test matches; he’s got a lot of wickets. This dude has been around for five minutes. He needs to concentrate on taking wickets. Ollie, just keep taking five-fors, and then you can say what you like,” Clarke added.

England fast-bowler Ollie Robinson made to the news following the send-off he gave to Australia Usman Khawaja in first Ashes Test. Many of the former cricketers criticized Robinson's attitude and behaviour but the fast bowler defended his actions. Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain, meanwhile, also weighed in on the incident.&nbsp;

Khawaja, enjoying a purple patch of form for the national side, became just the second Australian batter to bat on all five days of a Test match after Kim Hughes in 1980. While the nail-biting contest is still hanging in the balance, Khawaja could be the difference-maker in the contest while the second session was on roll at the time of writing.

After stepping on the field on Day 5, the veteran Aussie became the 13th player in the history of the format to bat on all five days of a Test match joining a list of players including Ravi Shastri, Andrew Flintoff, Cheteshwar Pujara, and others. In doing so, he also became the second batter after Hughes achieved the feat against England in 1980. Much to the surprise, the contest was not an Ashes match as the two nations met only a one-off contest that year at Lord’s. He is therefore the first Australian to play on all five days of an Ashes Test, and third overall to achieve the rare feat.

After rain-interrupted Day 5, at the time of writing, Australia were 150/5 from 50 overs with Khawaja batting on 41 and Cameron Green unbeaten on 4. The Aussies still need 131 to win with five wickets in hand while Stuart Broad was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. Both teams still have an equal chance of winning the contest on Day 5 as either side will look to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second Test at Lord’s which kick starts on Wednesday, June 28.
