As tensions with China over its claims to the autonomous island remain high, a second legislative delegation from the US is currently in Taiwan.

Since US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit in early August, a continuous stream of Americans has been to Taiwan to meet with government representatives.

Since then, China has increased its military intimidation of Taiwan by routinely sending warships, bombers, and even drones toward the island.

On Thursday, the eight-person, nonpartisan group will speak with Tsai Ing-wen, the president of Taiwan.

It is led by Stephanie Murphy, a Florida Democrat who is one of the legislators who introduced a bill that would permit the US to lend arms to Taiwan in support, similar to a bill that was enacted to lend weapons to Ukraine. The Biden administration gave its approval last week to a USD 1 billion arms deal with Taiwan.

The other guests are Republican Scott Franklin of Florida, Democrat Kaiali'i Kahele of Hawaii, Republican Joe Wilson of South Carolina, Republican Andy Barr of Kentucky, Republican Darrell Issa of California, Republican Claudia Tenney of New York, and Republican Kat Cammack of Florida.

The US government's highest-ranking official to visit Taiwan in 25 years was Pelosi. In retaliation, China conducted extensive military drills that included launching missiles over the island and deploying ships through the Taiwan Strait's middle, which had previously served as a demilitarised zone between the two sides. The missiles made some landings in the exclusive economic zone of Japan.

High-level international trips to the island are viewed as interference in Chinese affairs and a tacit acknowledgement of Taiwanese sovereignty by China. Some believed that China's recent military exercises were a practice run for upcoming military action against the island, which US military leaders fear could happen in the next few years.

A US senator, another congressional delegation, as well as government representatives from Japan and Palau, visited Taiwan after Pelosi's visit. Additionally, the governors of Arizona and Indiana paid trips with an emphasis on semiconductors, a sector that Taiwanese firms dominate.

US President Joe Biden won’t be designating Russia as a state sponsor of terror, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has said.

She said that adding Russia to the US list of state sponsors of terrorism would bring “unintended consequences” and can harm the interests of US allies across the globe and Ukraine.

At the daily White House press briefing on Tuesday, Jean-Pierre said that such a designation is not “the most effective or strongest path forward ... to hold Russia accountable”.

“It could drive critical humanitarian and commercial actors away from facilitating food exports to help mitigate the global food crisis and jeopardize the Black Sea port deal that has already led to over a million tons of Ukrainian food exports,” she said.

The US official pointed out that declaring Russia a sponsor of terrorism would undermine the “unprecedented multilateral coalition” Biden has assembled in support of Ukraine’s fight against the Russian invasion.

Had Russia joined the US terror list, it would have been placed alongside Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Syria.

The White House spokesperson reasoned that US has already imposed “severe sanctions” on Moscow that are comparable to the consequence faced while being designated as the state sponsor of terror.

China on Monday (September 5) accused the US of launching tens of thousands of cyberattacks against the country and stealing vast quantities of private information, including that of private research universities.

Relations between the two countries have deteriorated in recent years as a result of cyberattacks on the US government and businesses.

However, the US National Security Agency (NSA) was charged in a report issued on Monday with launching harmful assaults against network targets in China in recent years.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said on Monday (September 5) that Iran has not received the US' official response to its last proposal over revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.

"Iran is waiting to receive the response from other parties, notably that of the American government," he said during his weekly news conference in Tehran.

Kanani's remarks have followed the United States' remarks last Thursday. The US said that Iran's latest response on reviving the nuclear deal was 'not constructive'.

The nuclear deal was struck between Iran and other world powers including the US in 2015. But former US president Donald Trump unilaterally took US out of the deal. Talks have been going on to restore the nuclear deal.

"We can confirm that we have received Iran's response through the EU," State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said late Thursday in Washington.
"We are studying it and will respond through the EU, but unfortunately it is not constructive."

Kanani said on Monday that Tehran had "never received a response... saying that its position was not constructive".

He maintained that Iran's response was "constructive, clear and legal".

"Iran is trying to cancel sanctions to economically benefit the Iranian nation and this is one of its top priorities," Kanani said.

On August 8, the European Union (EU) put forward what it called was final text to restore the 2015 deal.

Talks to revive the 2015 accord known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action have been ongoing in Vienna since April 2021.

The deal granted Iran much-needed sanctions relief in return for curbs on its nuclear programme to prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon, a goal that Tehran has denied pursuing.

Talks have been going on to restore the nuclear deal. "We can confirm that we have received Iran's response through the EU," State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said late Thursday in Washington. "We are studying it and will respond through the EU, but unfortunately it is not constructive." Kanani said on Monday that Tehran had "never received a response... saying that its position was not constructive". Haven't got response from the US, says Iran over nuclear deal

Military sources in Iran said the country has upgraded the readiness of its air defences and installed civil defence systems in 51 of its cities to stave against any potential foreign attack. This comes as tensions with Israel and the United States have risen.

Brigadier General Mehdi Farahi, deputy defence minister, said Iran would be able to "identify and monitor threats by using round-the-clock software according to the type of the threat and risk" with the help of the civil defence apparatus.

The complexity of fights has increased in recent years, according to Farahi, who also noted that hybrid types of warfare, such as cyber, biological, and radiological attacks, have supplanted traditional wars. He avoided mentioning the nations that might pose a threat to Iran.

The commander of Iran's air defence headquarters, Brigadier General Qader Rahimzadeh, stated that his forces were at their greatest level of readiness at the time.

According to Rahimzadeh, the airspace of the nation is currently the safest for authorised planes and the most dangerous for potential aggressors.

Iran has charged Israel and the US with carrying out cyberattacks that have damaged the nation's infrastructure in recent years. Iran has also charged Israel with sabotaging its nuclear facilities, but neither country has admitted or disputed this.

Military tensions between the United States and Iran have long plagued the area. Even while both nations seek nuclear talks, the most recent episode saw Iran detain American military sail drones in the Red Sea earlier this week.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards' attempt to seize an unmanned surface ship controlled by the U.S. 5th Fleet in the Gulf, according to the US Navy, was thwarted on Tuesday. Iran said that the drone posed a risk to marine commerce.

Separately, official media said that security agents detained 12 adherents of the outlawed Baha'i faith in northern Iran.

Because the primary Baha'i shrine, which was constructed more than a century ago, is located in Israel, the Islamic Republic views the Baha'i faith as a heretical branch of Islam and accuses its adherents of having ties to Israel.

Amnesty International and other rights organisations have criticised the rising persecution of religious minorities in recent months, which has resulted in several arrests and the demolition of homes.

Since Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979, hundreds of members of the Baha'i faith have reportedly been imprisoned and put to death. The administration denies imprisoning or killing anyone because to their religious beliefs.

Richard Bernstein, a judge on the Michigan State Supreme Court, has demonstrated that justice is truly blind.

He has now shown that blind drivers can operate race cars as well. Legally blind since birth, Bernstein has demonstrated that someone who is blind can drive a race car as well. Bernstein told Fox News Digital this week that on Tuesday, August 23, Sheriff Chris Swanson, who was in the backseat, gave him directions.

On that particular day, Bernstein travelled around a dirt track at the Genesee County Fair in the vicinity of Flint, Michigan. He had never operated a vehicle before.

“People with a disability know what we can accomplish, but the real thing is for those who are not disabled to give us an opportunity,” Bernstein, 47, said.

According to the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 6 million Americans are thought to have vision impairment, and 1 million become blind in 2017.

As per the American Community Survey, the majority of blind or visually impaired people do not work or actively seek employment, compared to less than a quarter of people without impairments.

He used the abilities to complete 25 marathons, one Ironman race, and to fulfil his dream of becoming a race car driver, as reported by the New York Post.

Although many people know him as a justice, he joked, “No one calls me that. [Now] they call me race car driver.”

Due in part to his preparation for marathons, Bernstein was able to follow the sheriff's instructions regarding when to turn while driving with the sheriff despite the fact that he was blind.

His next objective is to dress like a race car driver, complete with a safety helmet, and go receive his licence from the Michigan secretary of state just to see what he will be told.
