As of Sunday, at least 20 people had been shot, one fatally, said DuPage County Deputy Sheriff Eric Swanson told reporters. As per reports, victims were taken to the nearby hospitals in DuPage, Cook and Will counties.&nbsp;

Fire officials had earlier said that there are five gunshot victims and at least 10 people have been shot and injured out of which two of them are in critical condition. According to Battalion Chief Joe Ostrander with the Tri-State Fire Protection District the shooting took place at around 12:30 am (local time), reported the local media.&nbsp;At least 12 ambulances responded to the scene,&nbsp;Ostrander added.

The condition of the victims was not immediately known. Additionally,&nbsp;Swanson said that the&nbsp;motive behind the shooting is unclear and it is still an active investigation.&nbsp;

A jury on Friday found an American man guilty of claiming the lives of 11 Jewish worshippers at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue in the year 2018, in what is deemed the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in the history of the United States, reported local media.

Robert Bowers was convicted of opening fire inside the synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 27, 2018.&nbsp;

Federal prosecutors charged Bowers with 63 counts, which also included 11 counts of obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death. The jury found him guilty on all counts, a spokesperson for the US Attorney's office in Pittsburgh confirmed, as cited by news agency Reuters.

Jurors, during his trial, heard testimony from the survivors of the attack. The evidence of Bowers' antisemitism included several posts that he made against Jews on a far-right website in the months leading to the attack.

The jury will now decide if Bowers should receive the death penalty for the shooting rampage.

In the sentencing phase, prosecutors will try to showcase that exacerbating factors were involved, making a case that Bowers carefully plotted the attack and that he targeted vulnerable victims. Most of the victims of the shooting were elderly.

The incident took place during Shabbat services and Bowers was armed with an AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifle and three Glock handguns. The police then arrested him at the scene.

The massacre claimed the lives of members of three congregations in the synagogue. Two additional worshippers and several police officers were also injured in the incident.

As per local media reports, Bowers had expressed strong anti-Semitic views online before the attack.

The then-US president Donald Trump had called for Bowers to receive the death penalty.

However, the Department of Justice under President Joe Biden has not carried out any federal executions since he came to power in January 2021.

However, he said that the US wants Iran to de-escalate tensions and curb its nuclear programme. The US also wants Iran to cease support for religious proxy groups and support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The US also wants Iran to release detained American citizens.

The Senate has confirmed civil rights attorney Nusrat Choudhury to become the first Muslim woman to serve as a federal judge in the history of the United States, reported the Associated Press.

Following a party-line vote on Thursday&nbsp;(June 15), she will start her lifetime appointment in Brooklyn, New York.

She is the legal director of the Illinois chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which applauded the confirmation. She worked at the national ACLU office from 2008 to 2020, spending seven of those years as the deputy director of the ACLU Racial Justice Programme.

The ACLU referred to her in a tweet as a "trailblazing civil rights lawyer".

She made history as the first Muslim-American woman and Bangladeshi-American to be a federal judge, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, who made the recommendation.

“Nusrat Choudhury is a shining example of the American Dream,” Schumer said in a statement.

“She is the daughter of immigrant parents, a graduate of Columbia, Princeton, and Yale Law School, and has dedicated her career to making sure all people can have their voices heard in court,” he added.&nbsp;

Her bio on the ACLU’s website says: “Nusrat helped secure the first federal court ruling striking down the US government’s no-fly list procedures for violating due process.

“She filed litigation to challenge the NYPD’s unjustified and discriminatory profiling of Muslims for surveillance, which resulted in a court-ordered settlement agreement, and to secure public records about the FBI’s racial and ethnic mapping program.”

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, abstained from the vote because she supports criminal justice reform. Her prior comments, he claimed in a statement, raise concerns about her capacity to be objective towards law enforcement officials, as reported by the Guardian.

Choudhury served as a legal clerk in New York City for Judges Barrington Parker Jr. of the 2nd US&nbsp;Circuit Court of Appeals and US&nbsp;District Judge Denise L&nbsp;Cote.

She was a member of the Presidential Task Force on Strengthening Public Confidence in the American Justice System.

Her selection adhered to Joe Biden's pledge to prioritise diversity in background, ethnicity, and gender in his judicial appointments.
