Russian President Vladimir Putin is resisting attempts made by the US and its allies to isolate his country over its invasion of Ukraine by organising significant military drills along with China, India and others.

The week-long Vostok-2022 war games, which began on Thursday in Russia, include naval drills in the sea and are anticipated to involve over 50,000 soldiers and 5,000 pieces of military equipment and weapons. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and Russia’s Collective Security Treaty are taking part in the routine drills, Bloomberg reported.

However, when it comes to India, it previously refrained from participating in the drills and taking Russia’s side in the conflict, but due to its dependency on Moscow for armaments and concerns with border issues with China and Pakistan, it is expected that India will send 75-member team for drills. The US, on the other side, is wooing India as its defence partner and pleading with it not to go against UN sanctions against Russia.

But, during the UNSC’s procedural vote last week, India voted against Russia for the first time and also suspended plans to jointly develop helicopters and other deals with Russia.

The first monkeypox-related fatality in the US was verified on Tuesday by Texas authorities, who added that they are still trying to determine what role the disease played in the death of the "severely immunocompromised" patient.

Few cases of monkeypox patient deaths have been reported globally but none were reported thus far in the United States during the current outbreak.

The death was being investigated to see what part monkeypox may have played, according to a statement from Texas health officials.

They stated that the patient was an adult with a significantly compromised immune system.

There have been 18,100 cases of monkeypox reported in the US thus far. Health authorities' data suggests that there has recently been a minor slowdown in the number of new illnesses.

The majority of infections occur during sexual activity, and the epidemic mostly affects gay and bisexual men.

A CDC survey from last week found that since learning about the outbreak, about half of men who engage in heterosexual sex had cut back on their number of partners, one-night stands, or usage of dating apps.

The distribution of vaccines has been the main emphasis of the United States' response to the outbreak. The government has declared that doses will be made accessible exclusively during significant LGBTQ events, including this weekend's Southern Decadence celebration in New Orleans, two events in Oakland, California, and Atlanta's "Black Pride".

Preliminary government data released on Wednesday stated COVID-19 deaths caused life expectancy in the US to decline for the second consecutive year in 2021, reaching its lowest since 1996. The data further revealed, that drug overdoses and heart disease also played a significant factor in the overall drop in life expectancy.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) discovered that the decrease in life expectancy at birth by nearly one year, from 2020 to 76.1 years, was marked the biggest two-year reduction in nearly a whole century.

Men are now anticipated to live for 73.2 years, which is about six years less than women, while the life expectancy gap between both sexes increased last year to its widest in more than 20 years.

The CDC reported COVID-19 was responsible for over 46,000 deaths caused in the US in 2021.

The worst annual loss in life expectancy the United States recorded after World War II was in 2020 due to Covid.

According to Robert Anderson, CDC head said, “Mortality's been a little better in 2022 than it was in 2020, so I think it's likely that we would see maybe a slight increase in life expectancy,” Reuters reported. He further added that due to the fact that deaths normally increase in the winter, life expectancy is unlikely to recover to pre-pandemic levels.

Another factor that accounts for life expectancy other than Covid is suicide.

UK Chancellor Zahawi to visit the US: Visit aimed at solving cost of living crisis

Leaders and funders of the Republican Party are suddenly vocalising their concern about their election prospects.

It appeared certain that their party would win both the US House and the Senate in 2022 five months ago. Republicans seemed prepared to extend their advantages over Democrats in terms of the number of governorships and state legislatures they now hold. And best of all, it appeared that they had subtly disregarded former President Donald Trump.

Their future seems uncertain right now. Price drops for gasoline have occurred. Since Roe v. Wade was overruled by the Supreme Court, pro-abortion voters have increased, including those nonreligious but otherwise conservative women who might have voted Republican.

Their chances of winning the Senate are over since Trump interfered in primaries and nominated a number of undesirable candidates in swing states that needed to win. Politico published remarks from the Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel's tense conference call with significant donors on Wednesday. Small-donation amounts to Senate candidates have dramatically decreased, despite a rise in Democratic financing, as per The Atlantic.

Worst of all, in the eyes of Republican leaders, Trump's support among tribal Republicans has increased as a result of the execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago. In a potential primary election in 2024, the search increased his fundraising to $1 million a day and contributed to his growing lead over Governor Ron DeSantis. According to a poll cited by NBC, Trump and DeSantis were neck-and-neck in a field of candidates. After the search, he outscored DeSantis 52–20. Republican leaders are aware that Trump is a loser in the general election, despite the fact that the Republican base loves him. Trump leading the ticket in 2024 is a recipe for disaster; simply a reminder that Trump is still at large in 2022 harms the down-ballot candidates. Republican leaders have begged with Trump to postpone any declaration of a 2024 election because of this.

Biden's plan to cut student loan debt will only make things worse for the GOP. The Democratic Party's biggest challenge going into this election was the lack of interest among younger voters. Only approximately 28% of voters under 35 indicated "strong interest" in the 2022 election earlier this year. That's the same as in 2014, a disastrous year for Democrats, and significantly below the 39% who indicated "strong interest" at this point in 2018, a good year for Democrats. Biden has now significantly benefited people who have student loan debt. They will act as a solid barrier against any red flood if they turn out to vote for him and reward him.

When it comes to purchasing votes ahead of elections, Republicans are not helpless victims. President Trump increased payments to farm families by almost quadruple, from $11.5 billion in 2017 to $32 billion in 2020, in order to ease the pain of his trade war with China before of the 2020 election. But compared to Trump's agriculture subsidy, Biden's initiative to reduce student loan debt is significantly higher, costing at least $330 billion over 10 years and maybe as much as $1 trillion.

The message for Republican donors and leaders is that supporting Trump will cost money. The GOP's chances of winning the election are being harmed by Trump and pro-Trump candidates. Trump lost the 2020 presidential election. The GOP's control of the US Senate was lost in 2021 due to pro-Trump candidates. More Trump-supporting politicians are falling terribly.

In 2021, Trump tried one strategy to get out of this jam: he violently overthrew the results of his election. That did not succeed.
State-level pro-Trump politicians have tried alternative strategies, such as altering election laws to their advantage. At the edges, that might work. Marginal advantages might not be sufficient in the event of a major event, such as the overturning of Roe v. Wade. A party needs a wide coalition in order to continuously win. A party that continues to disenfranchise large groups of voters by putting forth extremists, felons, and outlandish candidates is a party that has given up on governing. Republicans are currently assessing the price of such abdication in terms of dollars and cents. According to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, student debt relief will cost the typical taxpayer $2,000 on average.

The cost of Trump to the Republican Party and its supporters is much greater than just that one remark. Republicans won't understand that he and his faction won't go away on their own until more laws are introduced. They'll need to take hold of him and push him out the door with their own hands if they want to see his back. If they don't, their contributors should get used to receiving more significant donations for more Democratic candidates in the upcoming election cycles.

Also read | Biden plans to ask Congress to approve $1.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan, Politico report says Worst of all, in the eyes of Republican leaders, Trump's support among tribal Republicans has increased as a result of the execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago. The US defended its decision to transit its warships through the Taiwan Strait and said that the exercise was 'very consistent' with USA's "one China policy" and seeking a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The passage by the two vessels is "very consistent with our one-China policy, very consistent with our desire to make sure that we can continue to work toward a free and open Indo-Pacific," said Kirby

China considers Taiwan as its own territory and has not ruled out use of force to capture the island state. Transit of foreign vessels, especially warships through Taiwan Strait is perceived by China as an open challenge to its influence in these waters.
