As the results of Tuesday's midterm elections votes are still being counted, Democrats are just one seat away from claiming a majority in the US Senate next year.

With both Democrats and Republicans fighting for the victory, the competition gets tough as the campaigning for Georgia's run-off on December 6 is underway.

If Democratic Senator Catherina Cortez Masto defeats Republican opposition, Adam Laxalt, her party would then hold 50 of the Senate's seats. However, Laxalt was in the lead by nearly 800 votes in Nevada, and uncounted votes of Catherine might change the decision, Reuters reported.

If Democrats win in Georgina it would then be able to take control of the 51-49 Senates. But if they fail to win in Georgia but claim victory in Nevada, it would still hold control over 50-50 Senate seats as the US VP Kamala Harris can tie votes.

Tesla considering export of made-in-China electric vehicles to US and Canada: Report

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said in COP27 summit on Saturday that Mexico will strengthen its emissions-cutting efforts as part of a $48 billion renewable energy investment scheme with the United States.

The minister said that Mexico will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 35 per cent by 2030. This is up from previous commitment of 22 per cent.

The plan would require funding from both the public and private sectors this decade to double clean energy generation in Mexico.

It will "accelerate the energy transition in North America", Ebrard told a press conference at the UN climate summit in Egypt alongside US climate envoy John Kerry.

Kerry said Mexico had indicated a "significant step forward", noting the announcement was part of a three-way negotiation including Canada.

Neither official specified the amount of US financial support for the scheme.

Ebrard said it would require "double the clean energy efforts and investment efforts in the next eight years" compared to the original plan presented in 2020.

US President Joe Biden on Saturday (November 12) held talks with Southeast Asian leaders during Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Cambodia. Biden hailed the new US-ASEAN pact as a critical which will help tackling "the biggest issue of our time."

This was Biden's first visit to Southeast Asia as a president. The US president said that the region was at the heart of his administration's Indo-Pacific strategy and Washington was committing resources, not just rhetoric, under a new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"Together we will tackle the biggest issues of our time, from climate, to health security, to defend against the significant threat to the rule-based order," he said, opening a meeting in Cambodia with leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

"We will build an Indo Pacific that's free and open, stable and prosperous, and resilient and secure," he added.

ASEAN is engaging a host of leaders, including Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Biden's presence comes as the United States seeks to reassert itself after a period of regional uncertainty about its commitment under US predecessor Donald Trump, and concerted efforts by rival China to boost its influence and fill the void.

A 29-year-old woman in Texas has been sentenced to death for killing a pregnant acquaintance in October 2020 so that the foetus inside her womb could be removed and stolen.

Taylor Parker on Wednesday was sentenced in Texas after a lengthy trial that began in September this year.

The drama began when Parker announced her pregnancy to her boyfriend and family over a period of time. She purchased a fake silicone tummy and shared this news on social media. However, everything was a lie. The actual truth was that because of the Hysterectomy, she was unable to get pregnant.

The horrific scene of the murder happened on October 09, 2020, when Readab Simmons-Hancock, a 21-year-old pregnant acquaintance in her last stages of pregnancy was stabbed over 100 times in her home by Parker. Parker then sliced her stomach to take her unborn child. Her three-year-old daughter was also present at the time of the instance but was sleeping in another room, AFP reported.

After escaping from the house, Parker was taken into custody shortly while driving her car around nine miles from the crime scene.

The police said that Parker had the infant on her lap. The police department added that Parker claimed that she gave birth to the child. However, the child also passed away despite being admitted to the hospital.

According to the police testimony during the trial, Parker had been looking for pregnant women across stores and maternity wards a few weeks prior to the murder.

What is Ouija board game?

Ouija board is a board game that has letters, numbers, the words yes, no, hello and goodbye, as well as other symbols on it.

The boards can allegedly be used to contact the dead, whose “spirits” will move the planchette – a heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic – around the board to spell out answers to the questions players ask. Users place their hands on the planchette and ask any present spirits to answer their questions by moving the planchette around the board to spell out their response.

Former US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Ron Desantis - a potential challenger to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Republican analysts and commentators blamed Donald Trump for the party's disappointing performance in the midterm elections when hopes for sweeping victories fell short.

US Midterm Election 2022: Some Republicans are blaming Trump for the disappointing results

Donald Trump was expected to announce his 2024 presidential campaign after what he had thought will turn out to be a brilliant midterm election for the Republican Party. However, with the Democrats mounting a fightback in both House and Senate races, the inner circle of the former United president seems split on his future. According to The Guardian, top staffers at Mar-a-Lago have advised Trump to go ahead with his campaign announcement while certain allies are not so optimistic.

The Guardian quoted multiple sources close to Trump who confirmed that he is undecided on how to go ahead with his campaign commitments. The loss of Trump-backed candidates in various states has invited massive criticism from all corners and although the presidential run seems inevitable, Trump is off to a rocky start after a public tiff with Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

According to the report, Trump’s allies have asked him to wait for the Georgia senate run-off between Republican Herschel Walker and Democrat Raphael Warnock before making the announcement. There is a chance that the Georgia seat can end up deciding the senate race and a win for the Trump-backed candidate Walker will be a huge boost for him ahead of the primaries.

The sources claimed that both Trump’s adviser Jason Miller and former White House secretary Kayleigh McEnany has spoken against rushing into the announcement after the losses in Pennsylvania and Arizona.

DeSantis’ massive victory in Florida has also established him as a viable candidate for the Republicans in the primaries and a lot will depend on when Trump decides to throw his hat into the race.

After Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen spoke at a US-India Businesses and Investment Opportunities event in New Delhi on Friday, the US Department of Treasury withdrew India off its Currency Monitoring List. Along with India, the US also removed Italy, Mexico, Thailand, and Vietnam off its Currency Monitoring List. According to the Department of Treasury's biannual report to Congress, the seven economies that form the current Currency Monitoring List are China, Japan, Korea, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.

The countries that were removed from the Currency Monitoring List for two consecutive reports only satisfied one of the three requirements, according to the biannual report.

“China’s failure to publish foreign exchange intervention and broader lack of transparency around key features of its exchange rate mechanism makes it an outlier among major economies and warrants Treasury’s close monitoring," the report said.
