The United States has lost a second fighter jet that went overboard the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier on Tuesday, NBC News reported. The jet went into the Red Sea after it failed to land safely. The two aviators on board the two-seater F/A-18F Super Hornet ejected safely. The incident happened when it was landing around 9:45 p.m. local time.&nbsp;
The plane went overboard after it failed to catch the wire, known as a &ldquo;failed arrestment,&rdquo; one of the officials said. An investigation has been opened into the matter.
Aircraft landing on such carriers use a tail hook that grabs onto another wire to slow down. An officer said that the tail hook of this aircraft failed to catch onto the wire on the carrier and kept speeding, falling into the sea.

In the announcement, DHS said people who choose to leave "may help preserve" the ability to return legally, but did not cite any specific pathway or program. "If they're good, if we want them back in, we're going to work with them to get them back in as quickly as we can," he said.
&ldquo;The first use of travel assistance has already proven successful. An illegal alien that the Biden Administration allowed into our country recently utilized the program to receive a ticket for a flight from Chicago to Honduras,&rdquo; the agency said.

The Trump administration on Monday has said that it will resume collecting defaulted student loans stating that "there will not be any mass loan forgiveness." It&rsquo;s expected to affect the more than 5 million borrowers who are in default. The Department of Education stated in a release that it&nbsp;has not collected on defaulted loans since March 2020. The Education Department urged student borrowers in default to contact the student aid office&rsquo;s Default Resolution Group and make a monthly payment, enroll in an income-driven repayment plan, or sign up for loan rehabilitation.
"American taxpayers will no longer be forced to serve as collateral for irresponsible student loan policies," said US Secretary of Education Linda McMahon in a statement.
The Education Department in its release also said, "The previous Administration failed to process applications for borrowers who applied for income-driven repayment and continued to push misguided &ldquo;on-ramps&rdquo; and illegal loan forgiveness schemes to win points with borrowers and mask rising delinquency and default rates."

An Army veteran who has just gotten married died by suicide a day after returning from his honeymoon. The newlywed bride is shocked by her husband's death and says she is not aware of any reason why he would take his own life. The woman from North Carolina, United States, adds she never noticed any signs of depression in her husband.&nbsp;
Isabel Coles met her husband Christopher on a dating app and tied the knot 18 months later in September last year. The 32-year-old said both of them were thrilled to be married. For their honeymoon, they chose to go to a beachfront music festival. Coles says it was the "perfect" honeymoon.
But things took a dark turn only a day after they returned. The 28-year-old army veteran walked out of the home into the woods with a handgun. He shockingly shot himself, leaving his near and dear ones devastated.
Isabel recalled that Christopher started acting strangely after returning from the honeymoon. He didn't want to speak to her and appeared to be a different person. She tried to stop him from leaving the house, but he didn't listen and left.

"In the morning, he was folding laundry, and things were a little weird. I asked him what was wrong, and he said 'nothing'. He went downstairs and tried to get out. I stood at the front door and asked what was going on," Isabel said.
<h2>Christopher went to the woods with a gun</h2>
The next day, Isabel was told that Christopher had done the unthinkable. Isabel had a hard time wrapping her head around the news. She failed to understand what prompted her husband to kill himself, as just a day before, he was doing regular chores in the house.

Her heart burst with sadness when she received flowers from Christopher after his death. He had booked the flowers to be delivered on this day months before.
Isabel is trying to pinpoint the signs she may have missed about his struggle with mental health. "My husband was very successful and very driven and motivated, and he was such a good person, so looking back, I think, 'were there signs?'"
"He was very hard on himself, always pushing himself. There were no signs, it did take me really off guard."
However, she admits there must be something going on with him that led him to take the extreme step. "He was obviously fighting demons," she said.
Meanwhile, Isabel has people around her blaming her for his death. "I know it's not true, my husband and I were very happy. No one can change that or take that away from me."

In an exclusive interview with&nbsp;The Atlantic, Trump said that it is hard to run for the presidency for the third time, but also said that he is "trying to shatter" the US system and set a new precedent.

US President Donald Trump has time and again expressed his desire to run for the presidency again. He had also claimed that he has 'methods' for doing so. While the US Constitution under the 22nd Amendment bars any individual from running for the presidency for the third time, Trump supporters have said that the law can be interpreted differently as well. Any such manoeuvre would invite legal challenges, and courts would be asked to interpret the meaning of the 22nd Amendment.

'Very hard...': Has Trump taken a U-turn on 'will run for presidency for the third time' claims?

Amid the ongoing tariff war with the United States, the Chinese foreign ministry posted a video titled 'Never Kneel Down' on social media calling the international community to stand up to America's 'bully' behaviour under President Donald Trump. China said that the video will help the world unerstand China's position better in the current crisis.
This comes after&nbsp;Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed the issue of tariff war at the BRICS meeting, saying that appeasement will only embolden the "bully". and urged all nations to fight back against US levies. Additionally,&nbsp;&ldquo;The US, which has long benefited enormously from free trade, is now going so far as to use tariffs as a bargaining chip to demand exorbitant prices from all countries,&rdquo; Wang said in Brazil. &ldquo;If one chooses to remain silent, compromise and cower, it will only make the bully want to push his luck more.&rdquo;

Crimea has been the latest bone of contention between Russia, Ukraine and the United States. The US, which is eager to finalise a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv to effectively end the Russia-Ukraine war, has called out Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's insistence on giving away Crimea to Russia. US president Donald Trump has accused the Ukrainian leader of making &ldquo;very harmful&rdquo; statements after he pushed back on ceding occupied Crimea to Russia as a part of the peace deal.
<h2>What is the history of Crimea?</h2>
The history of Crimea is long, complex, and marked by a constant shift in control between several powers. Back in 1200s, the land was controlled by the Mongols. In the 15th century, it became a vassal of the Ottoman Empire.
The first Russian invasion of Crimea happened in 1783 when Catherine the Great annexed Crimea from the Ottomans, expanding Russian control over the Black Sea. In the 19th century Crimean War (1853&ndash;1856).&nbsp;Russia unsuccessfully fought against Britain, France, and the Ottoman Empire but Sevastopol remained a key naval port. In the Soviet era of 20th century, Crimea became an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the Russian SFSR. Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev transferred Crimea from the Russian SFSR to the Ukrainian SSR (both part of the USSR) in 1954. Crimea became part of independent Ukraine, with autonomous status after the fall of USSR.

However, due to Russia's monopoly over the strategic port of Sevastopol, pro-Russian sentiments remained high in this region despite Crimea being part of Ukraine.&nbsp;
In November 2013, the then President of Crimea - Viktor Yanukovych - abruptly rejected a trade agreement with the European Union (EU), choosing instead closer ties with Russia. This paved the way for Euromaidan Protests that soon turned violent amid police using force. Hundreds of protesters were killed, and Yanukovych eventually fled to Russia by February 2014. Ukraine&rsquo;s parliament declared him unable to fulfill his duties and installed an interim government. This was also called the Ukrainian Revolution, however, Russia claimed it was a coup. The Revolution redirected Ukraine's course towards the West.
However, the political vacuum in Kyiv allowed Russia to act quickly in Crimea. In late February 2014, unmarked soldiers, termed as &ldquo;Little Green Men&rdquo; and confirmed to be Russian troops, seized key buildings and infrastructure in Crimea. At the time, Russia denied that they were Russian troops. Crimea&rsquo;s parliament was under siege and eventually voted to hold a referendum on joining Russia.
In March 2014, a referendum was held under Russian military presence, with two choices: join Russia or return to the 1992 constitution (which gave Crimea more autonomy). The ballot reportedly did not include an option to stay in Ukraine.&nbsp;Official results claimed 97 per cent supported joining Russia, though the vote was widely condemned as unfair by Ukraine. Russia formally annexed Crimea, signing a treaty with local pro-Russian leaders.

<h2>But why is Crimea so important for Russia?&nbsp;</h2>
1. Strategic Location:&nbsp;Crimea gives direct access to the Black Sea, a crucial waterway for trade and military presence. Control of Crimea allows dominance over sea routes in the region.
2. Geopolitical Leverage: From Crimea, Russia can project power into the Mediterranean and Middle East, especially through its naval base at Sevastopol.
3. Military Significance: Sevastopol Naval Base is home to Russia&rsquo;s Black Sea Fleet. It&rsquo;s one of the few warm-water ports Russia can use year-round, which is critical for naval strategy.
4. Natural Resources and Economy:&nbsp;Crimea has offshore energy resources, including oil and gas in the Black Sea shelf.&nbsp;Control of Crimea gives Russia influence over regional energy supplies and maritime economic zones.

<h2>Trump slams Zelensky over Crimea&nbsp;</h2>
Earlier on April 19, it was reported that the Trump administration would walk away from the mediation role if both Russia and Ukraine did not seal a deal soon. Multiple reports claimed that America might recognise Russian control of Crimea as part of the peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. Following this, Zelensky said that Crimea is "the land of the Ukrainian people."
US President Trump came down heavily on Zelensky and said that if it was so important for Ukraine to have control over Crimea, why didn't they fight for it in 2014. &ldquo;Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian Territory but if he wants Crimea, why didn&rsquo;t they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired?&rdquo; he posted on Truth Social.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president said that talks were held in London between the US, Ukrainian and European officials, despite US Secretary of State Marco Rubio cancelling his trip. Rubio reportedly cancelled his trip after Ukraine said that "it would not enter negotiations on territorial issues until a full and unconditional ceasefire is achieved." As per reports, the ministerial-level talks were downgraded, however, Zelensky said that the meeting was marked by heightened emotions and that he hopes future talks would be positive with allies. Al Jazeera reported that Trump&rsquo;s Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg called the talks with Zelenskyy&rsquo;s chief of staff Andriy Yermak "positive."
US peace plan reportedly accommodates Russia's two major demands - control over Crimea and cancellation of any talks on Ukraine's NATO membership. Ukraine and critics have called the plan in favour of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Al Jazeera reported that Trump’s Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg called the talks with Zelenskyy’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak "positive." US peace plan reportedly accommodates Russia's two major demands - control over Crimea and cancellation of any talks on Ukraine's NATO membership. Ukraine and critics have called the plan in favour of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Read More | Kyiv's NATO dream shattered? US presents Russia-Ukraine peace plan - Here's what it says

JD Vance's India visit: Delhi traffic police releases advisory, CHECK suggested routes and diversions

Chinese cybersecurity officials on Tuesday accused the United States of launching cyberattacks and issued arrest warrants against three US individuals working in the US National Security Agency (NSA)&rsquo;s Office of Tailored Access Operations&mdash;an intelligence-gathering unit on cyber warfare.&nbsp; In a statement released on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the officials also offered a cash reward for people providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the three accused US nationals allegedly involved in a spate of cyberattacks.
Opening a new front against Washington even as the tariff battle between China and the United States is still far from abating, Chinese security officials claimed that three NSA agents attacked the information infrastructure during the 9th Asian Winter Games held in the northeastern city of Harbin in February.
These hackers also &ldquo;repeatedly carried out cyberattacks&rdquo; on the Chinese telecommunication company Huawei and other businesses, Chinese state news agency Xinhua said.
The three NSA &lsquo;agents&rsquo; have been added to a wanted list by police in the northeastern Chinese city of Harbin for allegedly taking part in cyberattacks during the Asian Winter Games held in the city in February. Chinese cybersecurity experts accused the individuals of using artificial intelligence (AI) to launch the attacks. Wilson, Robert J. Snelling, and Stephen W. Johnson,&rdquo; the authorities said in a notice. &ldquo;Investigations revealed that these three agents repeatedly participated in cyberattacks on China&rsquo;s critical information infrastructure and in hacking activities against enterprises such as Huawei,&rdquo; the warrant stated.&nbsp; The police also accused the University of California and Virginia Tech of being involved in the cyberattacks, but did not share details of their involvement. The NSA also launched cyberattacks on &ldquo;key sectors such as energy, transport, water conservancy, communications and national defence research institutes&rdquo; in Heilongjiang province, where Harbin is located, the Xinhua report said. The aim was to &ldquo;damage critical information infrastructure, cause social disorder, and steal important confidential information&rdquo;, it added. China&rsquo;s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Centre (CVERC) and the National Engineering Laboratory for Computer Virus Prevention and Control Technology released a report on April 3 stating that the Asian Winter Games&rsquo; event information system &ldquo;was hit by 270,167 cyberattacks from abroad&rdquo; between January 26 and February 14. Du Zhenhua, a CVERC engineer, told state broadcaster CCTV in an interview on April 3 that the attacks came mainly from the US, but also used IP addresses in the Netherlands as a &ldquo;springboard&rdquo; to launch the attacks. Zhou Hongyi, founder of Chinese cybersecurity firm 360 Security Technology, which was involved in the investigation, told CCTV that the NSA&rsquo;s attacks &ldquo;used AI to plan attack scenarios, explore vulnerabilities and monitor traffic, and some attack codes were obviously written by AI&rdquo;. World: “Investigations revealed that these three agents repeatedly participated in cyberattacks on China’s critical information infrastructure and in hacking activities against enterprises such as Huawei,” the warrant stated.

Chinese cybersecurity officials on Tuesday accused the United States of launching cyberattacks and issued arrest warrants against three US individuals working in the US National Security Agency (NSA)’s Office of Tailored Access Operations—an intelligence-gathering unit on cyber warfare. In a statement released on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the officials also offered a cash reward for people providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the three accused US nationals allegedly involved in a spate of cyberattacks. Opening a new front against Washington even as the tariff battle between China and the United States is still far from abating, Chinese security officials claimed that three NSA agents attacked the information infrastructure during the 9th Asian Winter Games held in the northeastern city of Harbin in February. These hackers also “repeatedly carried out cyberattacks” on the Chinese telecommunication company Huawei and other businesses, Chinese state news agency Xinhua said. The three NSA ‘agents’ have been added to a wanted list by police in the northeastern Chinese city of Harbin for allegedly taking part in cyberattacks during the Asian Winter Games held in the city in February. Chinese cybersecurity experts accused the individuals of using artificial intelligence (AI) to launch the attacks. The police also accused the University of California and Virginia Tech of being involved in the cyberattacks, but did not share details of their involvement. The NSA also launched cyberattacks on “key sectors such as energy, transport, water conservancy, communications and national defence research institutes” in Heilongjiang province, where Harbin is located, the Xinhua report said. The aim was to “damage critical information infrastructure, cause social disorder, and steal important confidential information”, it added. China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Centre (CVERC) and the National Engineering Laboratory for Computer Virus Prevention and Control Technology released a report on April 3 stating that the Asian Winter Games’ event information system “was hit by 270,167 cyberattacks from abroad” between January 26 and February 14. Du Zhenhua, a CVERC engineer, told state broadcaster CCTV in an interview on April 3 that the attacks came mainly from the US, but also used IP addresses in the Netherlands as a “springboard” to launch the attacks. Zhou Hongyi, founder of Chinese cybersecurity firm 360 Security Technology, which was involved in the investigation, told CCTV that the NSA’s attacks “used AI to plan attack scenarios, explore vulnerabilities and monitor traffic, and some attack codes were obviously written by AI”. Zhou added that Chinese cybersecurity experts had spent nearly a decade building a “tactical knowledge base” of US cyberattack methods. A 97-year-old Colorado woman was found dead out in the snow after being reported missing by family members. She died of hypothermia, but the case is now being investigated as homicide. &nbsp; &nbsp; Corrye Brewer is believed to have been deliberately left out in the cold without any amenities by a family member, the coroner's report said. Consequently, she froze to death.
Investigating officers said that Brewer suffered from a cognitive impairment and was on medication. She was last seen around 1 pm on Jan 24, in Peyton, according to a statement from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. The family filed a missing person complaint the next day.&nbsp;
The National Center for Missing and Endangered, Inc. announced on Jan 27 that Brewer's dead body had been discovered. El Paso County Sheriff&rsquo;s Office said that Brewer was found outside an abandoned house. An autopsy was conducted, and the reason of death was cited as hypothermia.
El Paso County Coroner&rsquo;s Office has released Brewer's autopsy report and ruled her death homicide, Fox 21 and CBS News reported.
The autopsy report blames a family member for Brewer's death. Someone left her outside the house on Jan 24 in the cold. She had no way to protect herself, no personal belongings on her and no means to find a shelter.&nbsp;
According to the report, temperatures dropped to 16 degrees Fahrenheit (-9 degrees Celsius), and it started to snow. The conditions weren't healthy for a living being to be outside without proper protection.
Brewer's grandson spoke to CBS News and said, "Somebody needs to be held accountable."
The case is under investigation, and the El Paso County Sheriff&rsquo;s Office said the district attorney would review the case.&nbsp;

97-year-old freezes to death after being left out in -9 degrees Celsius by a family member: Report

The United States has reportedly stepped on the gas for the development of the nuclear "gravity" bomb, a weapon of mass destruction that is set to replace the older nuclear weapons in the country. The initial plan was to start production in 2026 for the US Air Force and complete the process of replacement by 2028.
However, the Department of Energy&rsquo;s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) had earlier estimated that phase 1 of the development would start in 2037, with the first gravity bombs being produced in 2050. But the Ukraine war led the US to push the timeline way up.
The B61-13, a nuclear "gravity bomb", is going under production at Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico. This comes in the face of growing tensions on the international stage, with the US locked in a pretty clear tussle with China.
The Israel-Hamas war has also spread to Iran and Yemen, triggering fears of World War III.

But some say it's not even real</a>
Scientists at the lab say that pushing up the timeline would reduce the overall production time by 25 per cent. However, officials clarified that this would not increase the country's nuclear stockpile as the production of B61-12 nuclear bombs will be scaled down.

As the name suggests, the new nuclear bomb uses gravity assist to cause destruction. The B61-13 is 24 times more powerful than the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II in 1945. The atom bomb has a yield of about 15 kilotons, which is equivalent to 15,000 tonnes of TNT.

The B61-13 has a yield of around 360 kilotons, or 360,000 tonnes of TNT. It would be an improvement over the B61-12 nuclear bombs in terms of safety and precision. Scientists are making the B61-13 by using the warhead from the B61-7, a nuke designed in the 1980s, and combining it with the modern features of B61-12. New stealth bombers are being built to carry the gravity bomb.

Visas of hundreds of international students in the United States, including many from India, have been revoked. Students received emails from the US State Department instructing them to self-deport as their visas have been revoked. While these emails cited petty crimes such as shoplifting, drunk driving, etc as reasons for deportation, many reports suggest that students were deported due to their alleged involvement in campus activism.
According to a report by the Associated Press, most students received letters due to their activities in support of the Gaza crisis on the internet. However, multiple reports have now claimed that old offences like speeding tickets have been mentioned in deportation emails.
To bar those suspected of criticizing the United States and Israel from entering the country, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in March, ordered diplomats overseas to scrutinize the social media content ostudentf applicants for student and other types of visas. He also ordered a vigorous screening of web activities of students already on students visas. Cancellations of visas have picked up pace since then. This marks a shift in US policies that deported students only in case of arrest or conviction for a crime.

Another student from Hyderabad in Missouri confessed to having been arrested for drunk driving. "I have been regularly giving urine tests to the police, and all have come back clean," the student said, adding that he is shaken by the deportation email.&nbsp;
Another Indian student from Austin, Texas, recalled that he was arrested for shoplifting in July 2023. But his case was dismissed after a warning and on the basis of his good academic performance. "I followed all instruction and completed all the formalities. Why am I being punished?" he asked.
The report also quoted an immigration lawyer from Texas who said, "Revoking SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) for offences like drinking and driving, shifting lanes or over-speeding is extremely rare."

Why Indian students in Trump's US facing deportation: 'Drunk driving, shoplifting, speeding'

Amid worldwide backlash to the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has told the Senate Finance Committee that nearly 50 countries have approached him and are willing to lower tariffs, including India. He said that Trump's tariff move is bearing fruit as more and more countries are ready for negotiations.
&ldquo;Nearly 50 countries have approached me personally to discuss the President's new policy and explore how to achieve reciprocity. And they've spoken with many members of the administration. Several of these, such as Argentina, Vietnam, India, and Israel, have suggested that they will reduce their tariffs and non-tariff barriers in line with the President's policy,&rdquo; Greer said.

Greer added that while the United States maintains an average 5 per cent tariff on agricultural goods, India&rsquo;s average tariff stands at 39 per cent. India has been tariffed 26 per cent and is among the countries hit the hardest. The tariffs would come into effect starting Wednesday (Apr 9).
The comments by Greer echo US National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett's disclosure over the weekend that more countries have reached out to the White House for trade negotiations.
"These obviously are welcome moves. Our large and persistent trade deficit has been over 30 years in the making, and it will not be resolved overnight, but all of this is in the right direction," Greer added.&nbsp;

World, India News | Amid worldwide backlash on US President Trump's tariffs, US official said that India is among 50 countries that are willing to lower tariffs

“Nearly 50 countries have approached me personally to discuss the President's new policy and explore how to achieve reciprocity. And they've spoken with many members of the administration. Several of these, such as Argentina, Vietnam, India, and Israel, have suggested that they will reduce their tariffs and non-tariff barriers in line with the President's policy,” Greer said. Kilmar Abrego Garcia, 29, was living legally in Maryland but was deported to El Salvador last month. He had fled from El Salvador in 2011 and as per reports, a US immigration judge had granted him protection from deportation in 2019. The Trump administration claims that Garcia has ties to MS-13. Mara Salvatrucha, commonly known as MS-13, is an international criminal gang and US-designated terrorist organization.

United States President Donald Trump said that the deal on TikTok was pretty close. However, he noted that China changed its mind due to tariffs. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump stated that China would have approved the deal in 15 minutes if he had given a cut in tariffs.
When asked about a report that there was about to be a deal on TikTok but China changed its mind, Trump responded, "The report is that we had a deal, pretty much for Tiktok, not a deal, but pretty close, and then China changed the deal because of tariffs. If I gave a little cut in tariffs, they'd approve that deal in 15 minutes, which shows you the power of tariffs."

Last week, Trump announced that China would face a 34 per cent tariff. Following Trump's announcement, China announced it would impose reciprocal 34 percent tariffs on all imports from the US on April 10, CNN reported. Donald Trump on Friday said that his administration had been working on a deal to "save TikTok" and that he would sign an executive order to keep the app operational for an additional 75 days.
Sharing a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, "My administration has been working very hard on a deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress. The deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days."

Trump expressed hope that discussions with China would continue in "good faith," acknowledging that China was displeased with the US reciprocal tariffs. He defended these tariffs as essential for ensuring fair and balanced trade between the two countries. Trump emphasised that the goal was to prevent TikTok from "going dark." "We hope to continue working in good faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our reciprocal tariffs (Necessary for fair and balanced trade between China and the USA!). This proves that tariffs are the most powerful economic tool and very important to our national security! We do not want TikTok to "go dark." We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the deal. Thank you for your attention to this matter," he further said in a post on Truth Social.

According to a CNN report, Trump's announcement came just one day before the ban was set to go into effect, after Trump delayed it by an initial 75 days when he took office in January. Last year, former US President Joe Biden enacted a law mandating that TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, based in China, sell off the app or face a ban in the US due to national security concerns.
While the law was initially scheduled to take effect in January, Trump announced he would postpone its enforcement in an effort to negotiate an agreement that would keep the app "alive." A ByteDance spokesperson said the TikTok parent company "has been in discussion with the US government regarding a potential solution for TikTok US." In a statement, a ByteDance spokesperson said, "An agreement has not been executed. There are key matters to be resolved. Any agreement will be subject to approval under Chinese law."&nbsp;

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 607 measles cases across 21 states this year, more than double the total for all of 2023. Texas has reported 481 cases, the highest statewide tally in decades.
"If this trend continues, we may surpass the 2019 outbreak -- the worst in nearly 30 years," said Dr Peter Hotez, a leading vaccine expert at Baylor College of Medicine, as per a report on PTI. "And what's tragic is that these deaths are entirely preventable...This is a global wake-up call..Even wealthy nations are not immune if vaccine misinformation and hesitancy are allowed to spread," Hotez added.

Measles outbreak in US: Third death reported as unvaccinated child dies in West Texas

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance at a summit for Black women leaders in California. She has reportedly hinted at staying active in political life in what is being termed as her first public appearance after the 2024 poll debacle.&nbsp;
"We can&rsquo;t go out there and do battle if we don&rsquo;t take care of ourselves and each other...I&rsquo;ll see you out there. I&rsquo;m not going anywhere," she told the audience at the Leading Women Defined gathering, reported The Hill.

In a nearly eight-minute address, Harris did not name US President Donald Trump, but spoke about the "fear" that the people of United States are witnessing "in these last few months."
"Fear has a way to be contagious. When one person has fear, it has a way of spreading to those around...we are witnessing that. But I say, courage is also contagious," she added.

<h2>Kamala Harris in politics</h2>
Kamala Harris lost the 2024 US Presidential election to Donald Trump, who secured more than 270 electoral college votes to reclaim the presidency for the second time. In 2020, Kamala Harris had been Joe Biden's running mate. Biden had stepped aside in July last year from the race to the presidency and the Democrats picked Harris as the face to run against Republican Trump. In 2020, Harris became the first Black vice president of the United States and the first woman to hold the post.

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance at a summit for Black women leaders in California. She has reportedly hinted at staying active in political life in what is being termed as her first public appearance after the 2024 poll debacle. "We can’t go out there and do battle if we don’t take care of ourselves and each other...I’ll see you out there. I’m not going anywhere," she told the audience at the Leading Women Defined gathering, reported The Hill. In a bizarre case of burglary, a man from Port Orchard, US, has been arrested and presented before the court for theft of a chicken. The 50-year-old broke into his former girlfriend's house and stole her 'favourite' pet chicken &ndash; Polly.
According to authorities in Washington&rsquo;s Kitsap County, it is alleged that he was seen screaming, 'I've got Polly,' several times before he ran into the woods. The police received a call for help early in the morning on Saturday (Mar 31), when the woman narrated the story of her former boyfriend breaking into her house and snatching her pet chicken.

He was found hiding in the woods after an intense search carried out by authorities; bodycam footage showed him snug in bushes when the police approached him at gunpoint. As the cops got closer, he was heard saying, 'don&rsquo;t hurt my chicken!' When he was assured the chicken would not be hurt, he complied.
The police then safely placed the chicken in the patrol car and then took him into custody, charging him with residential burglary and violating an order of protection.
On checking the jail record, it was revealed that the man had only been released from custody less than three hours before he orchestrated this robbery.

Unsparing could probably be the apt word to describe US President Donald Trump's tariffs. As these are now being levied even on the world's remotest region &ndash; a place ruled by penguins, seals, and birds. Heard and McDonald Islands &ndash; the icy archipelago does not have a single human on the land, and the last time people visited is believed to be about a decade ago.
These islands form the external territory of Australia and are accessible from Perth on the west coast by a two-week boat voyage. The inhabitable region also has a 10% import tax levied. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had said no place on Earth is safe.

Both Ukraine and Russia complained to the United States about striking each other's energy sites on Tuesday, with Kyiv calling on Washington to strengthen sanctions on Moscow for "violating" agreements made in Saudi Arabia.&nbsp;
Each side has accused the other of breaking a supposed deal to stop firing on energy sites, though a formal agreement has not been put in place and what commitments each side has undertaken remain unclear.

Following separate meetings with US officials, the White House said both Ukraine and Russia had "agreed to develop measures for implementing" an "agreement to ban strikes against energy facilities of Russia and Ukraine".
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his defence minister, Rustem Umerov, was in touch with US officials.
"We have passed on all the necessary information about Russian violations in the energy sector," Zelensky said in his daily evening address.&nbsp;
He earlier called on Washington to strengthen sanctions on Russia as a response.&nbsp;
"I believe we have come to the point of increasing the sanctions impact, because I believe that the Russians are violating what they have promised America. At least what America has told us, and publicly," Zelensky said at a press conference in Kyiv.&nbsp;
"And we very much hope that President (Donald) Trump has all these appropriate tools to increase the sanctions pressure on the Russian side."

He said Ukraine remains "ready" for an unconditional ceasefire with Russia.&nbsp;
In Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier discussed allegations of Ukrainian "violations" in a private meeting of top security officials on Tuesday.
Moscow also said it had handed its complaints to Washington.&nbsp;
<h2>'We passed a list'&nbsp;</h2>
"We passed a list of violations... to the US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after the meeting.
"I have passed this list to the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio," he added.
Russia's defence ministry earlier accused Kyiv of striking Russian energy sites in the Russian region of Belgorod and the partially Moscow-controlled Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia.
The allegations come hours after Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said tens of thousands were left without power in the southern Kherson region by a Russian strike.
Local authorities later said power supplies had been restored.
Russia has launched systematic aerial attacks on Ukrainian power plants and grid since invading in February 2022.
Putin last month rejected a joint US-Ukrainian proposal for an unconditional and full ceasefire.
Sybiga also said Kyiv and Washington were holding fresh talks on a minerals agreement that would give the United States access to Ukrainian natural resources in return for more support.
The two countries had planned to sign a deal in February on extracting Ukraine's strategically important minerals, until a spectacular televised White House clash between Trump and Zelensky derailed the agreement.
Trump on Sunday warned Zelensky he would have "big problems" if Kyiv rejected the latest US proposal, details of which have not been published by either side.

'We passed a list' "We passed a list of violations... to the US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after the meeting. Ukraine and Russia fire at each others energy sites, complain to US

US President Donald Trump's second term has already seen a lot of deportations. In one such case, Kilmer Abrego-Garcia was erroneously deported to El Salvador. The man was deported in one of the three high-profile deportation flights to El Salvador in March. The administration said he was a member of the MS-13 gang, which is an international criminal group. In contrast, the judge, in his ruling, prohibited his removal from his home country.
Abrego-Garcia's lawyers have demanded his return to the United States. A complaint filed by his family mentions that his 5-year-old son and wife are both US citizens residing in Maryland. It also noted that he was driving with his son seated in the backseat when ICE officers stopped his car and handcuffed him.
However, the Trump administration refrained from bringing him back from El Salvador, saying they did not have the legal authority to expedite the process of return.
US Department of Homeland Security, spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin ,wrote on X, "The media&rsquo;s favorite &ldquo;Maryland father&rdquo; is actually a member of the brutal MS-13 gang in our country illegally. In fact, DHS intelligence reports show that he is involved in human trafficking."

She added, "The media knows that, but continue to do the bidding of these vicious gangs that terrorize Americans, while ignoring the victims. Whether this gang member is in El Salvador or a detention facility in the US, Americans can rest assured that he is off our streets &amp; locked up."
As reported in news agency Reuters, ICE official Robert Cerna said in the court document, "Through administrative error, Abrego-Garcia was removed from the United States to El Salvador, opens new tab. This was an oversight, and the removal was carried out in good faith based on the existence of a final order of removal and Abrego-Garcia's purported membership in MS-13."
As part of the massive crackdown, Venezuelans and Salvadoreans were deported from the US, alleging that those deported had ties with criminal gangs. While some on the list of deportees have refused to have any connection with the said gangs, many had active US asylum cases.
